LEST WE FORGET 1

image

DEVOTIONAL AUDIO:

Deu 6:12
12 Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
(KJV)

Harry was flabbergasted as he watched his friend in his drunken state. He could hardly believe his eyes. How could Fola forget so quickly? Just a few months back he (Fola) escaped death narrowly in a car accident while driving in a drunken state. Fola swore he would never get near alcohol again talk less of driving drunk. But here he was drinking heavily again.

The entire book of Deuteronomy is an account of the words of Moses as he reminded the people of Israel all that God had done for them and the need for them not to deviate from God's statutes. Moses demonstrated great memory himself as he articulated the laws of God, the journeys, struggles and victories of Israel. He emphasized that the people must never forget LORD and His laws. Why did Moses have to go through the pain of retelling experiences that the people themselves were part of? Because of man's tendency to forget. Yet, this generation of Israel did not make it to the promised land. They forgot the God who saved them (the very thing Moses warned them against) when they saw giants in the land. So God barred them all (except Joshua and Caleb) from entering into the land he promised them.

We humans have the tendency to forget God in the days of adversity and prosperity alike.

We shall continue this series in the days to come.

Go into today, let every situation bring God and His words to your mind. Try to see Him in all your experiences today.

Prayer: Father, let me never forget Your deliverances in the past. Bring to my remembrance Your ways of old.
