THE BELIEVER AND HIS TRADITION 3

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1839

1 Corinthians 11:3-4 (KJV)
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

Remember that from the second verse of 1 Cor 11, Apostle Paul begins by talking about the tradition he passed down to the believers at Corinth.

It is believed that in the eastern Mediterranean, it was common practice for chaste women who are under authority to cover their heads as a sign of honor to their fathers (when they are unmarried), or to their husbands (when married).

Women who did not cover their heads in public did so to the dishonor of their head (either their fathers or husbands).

Only prostitutes, unchaste women, and rebellious women appeared in public formal gatherings without their heads covered as a sign of honor for their head.

Now, this was a good tradition that was practiced in Israel and among the people in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Corinthian Church was one that had a tendency to be very liberal and 'free'. It would not be a far stretch to imagine that certain women among them would leave their heads uncovered in public gatherings because they are now 'free' from 'tradition'.

That spirit of rebellion and disorderliness was one of the things apostle Paul was fighting in the Corinthian Church when he wrote the text in today's Bible verse.

Go into today remembering that every good tradition upheld by the leadership of your local church assembly is good for you. It is the spirit of rebellion that seeks to operate contrary to acceptable good tradition. Ask the Lord to help you walk above all rebellion.

THE BELIEVER AND HIS TRADITION 2

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1838

1 Corinthians 11:2 (NET)
I praise you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

I have heard of believers who got themselves into big trouble because they exposed themselves to some pagan traditions of their culture of birth after becoming believers.

When you became a believer in Christ Jesus, you became reconciled with God through faith in Christ Jesus. Because of this, you became a friend of God. But this meant you also became an enemy of the world-the prince of this world (the devil) and his company.

Traditions that were born out of pagan worship were designed to connect people with demons and keep them under the domain of principalities. If through a cultural practice, a believer (who is now an enemy of the devil and his kingdom) brings himself under their authority, he would be greatly attacked. Some have fallen asleep before their time because of this.

Before the coming of the gospel, every ethnic group on earth had a culture, and these cultures were shaped by their religion and gods. The only group of people who were relatively free from cultures and traditions inspired by demons were the people of Israel because they worshiped the one true God.

Being an apostle to the Gentiles, there were many things Apostle Paul had to teach and explain to the Gentile believers because they grew up in cultures that were antithetical to the divine life. . in discipling people, it is expedient that you are diligent in identifying unwholesome cultural practices and traditions that the enemy may seek to use to trap them. When you take away a bad tradition, it should be replaced with a good one.

Go into today remembering that because you are of a kingdom that is higher and better than any other, you are not to submit yourself to any cultural practice that does not glorify God and uphold His righteousness.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to deliver you from falling into the trap of practicing demonically inspired traditions.

GREATER RICHES – THE REWARD

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1837

Hebrews 11:26 (AMP)
“He considered the contempt and abuse and shame (borne for) the Christ (the Messiah Who was to come) to be greater wealth than all the treasures of Egypt, for he looked forward and away to the reward (recompence)”

The consecrated believer must have the reward in his consciousness always. Now, understand that your consecration must be to the Lord and for the Lord, but it is good to keep the reward (God’s reward) in our remembrance. That reward is so great that it puts this world’s pleasure in its place. So when we juxtapose God’s reward and what this world has to offer, the allure of this world’s enticement will lose its power.

The reward comes with a glory that the world cannot boast of nor can it fathom, in fact, we cannot fully grasp the fullness of the glory or the entire details of Christ’s reward, but we know from scriptures that it is glorious. Keeping the reward in mind fills us with joy, even in the midst of suffering for Christ in our consecration to Him. It keeps us from being like pitiable unfortunate keepers of a law, but the rather, it ignites real joy in us. Think of Stephen when being stoned, he saw heaven opened, and the last thing that comes to mind when thinking of Stephen at his death is pity.

Keep the reward in mind. Bible speaking about Jesus said “He, for the joy (of obtaining the prize) that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God” (Heb 12:2b AMP). Paul speaking in 2nd Cor 4:17, 18 about our reward tells us that we have an eternal weight of glory which is far greater than any present affliction suffered for Christ, and that that is what we look at.

Go into today remembering to boldly stand for Christ, keep your gaze on him, and also keep the reward in mind. It is great, it is eternal, let it fill you with joy (1st Peter 4:13), it is worth it.

THE BELIEVER AND HIS TRADITION 1

1 Corinthians 11:2 (NET)
I praise you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

Sandra had a lingering misunderstanding with her mother-in-law because she and her husband were believers and they decided not to follow certain traditions that were not spiritually edifying. For some reason, Sandra’s mother-in-law insisted that Sandra was to blame for this (because she was from another ethnic group). With patience, great wisdom and show of love, Sandra succeeded in winning her mother in-law’s heart.

There are hundreds of different traditions and cultures in the world today, and many of them stem from the religion of the people that practice them. It is often said that culture is the cloak of religion. For the believer, every traditional must be screened through the lenses of scripture. If a tradition or custom is contradictory to the truth of God's Word, it must be discarded by the believer. But if a tradition is not in contradiction to the truth of God's Word, it shouldn't be discarded.

As believers, we are a Holy nation (1 Pet 2:9), and we have our own traditions that are peculiar to us everywhere. Even though some outward interpretations of them can vary because of cultural influences, the spirit of every Christian tradition must be understood and upheld by believers. Walking in these ensures that we walk in the blessing.

Underlining principles and pillars of the Christian tradition are virtues such as love, honor, kindness, diligence, compassion, self-control, moral purity, justice & fairness, patience, humility, orderliness. Any human tradition that contradicts any of these principles should be discarded.

Go into today remembering that you are first and foremost a citizen of heaven. Every custom and tradition you practice must be vetted by the truth of God's Word and not found wanting. Some traditions must be rejected and done away with because they are mediums through which demons invade people's lives.

BACK TO FIRST PRINCIPLES

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1835

2 Peter 1:12 - 13 (NIV)
So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body...

In mathematics, many complex equations (that are calculus in nature) are solved by starting from the scratch to find in simple terms a general algebraic expression for the slope of a curve at a given value. This is called Derivative from First Principles.

In nearing the end of his ministry here on earth, Apostle Peter thought it wise to encourage all believers to call to mind the basic tenets of Christianity. Sadly, these foundational truths are no longer considered important to some, who are now overly engrossed with complex theologies and spiritual mysteries leading to heresies (Col 2:18, 1Tim 6:20-21, 2Tim 2:23, Tit 3:9).

Hebrews 6:1-2 elaborates on these principles and they include repentance from dead works, faith in God, baptisms [in water and in the Holy Ghost], laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

It will never be obsolete to tell others about Christ, the dangers of sin and the fiery fate of hell awaiting those who aren't saved. Though the principles may be familiar to us, we must continuously examine and remind ourselves of their importance, lest we become victims of our own negligence (1Cor 10:12, Heb 2:1-3).

Many ‘spiritual battles’ believers are engaged in today would never have degenerated to where they are if virtues from these first principles were firmly nurtured and developed to maturity. The simple gospel of Jesus Christ is the solution to all our problems (2Pet 1:5-10).

Go into today reminded of all that Jesus has done for you, and with thanksgiving, go back to your purity, trust, and service to Him--like when you first believed.

GREATER RICHES - CHOICES

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1834

Hebrews 11:24-26 (MSG)
“By faith, Moses, when grown, refused the privileges of the Egyptian royal house. He chose a hard life with God’s people rather than an opportunistic soft life with the oppressors. He valued suffering in the Messiah’s camp far greater than Egyptian wealth because he was looking ahead, anticipating the payoff”

A complete consecration to God (and His divine cause) will spur the believer to do some things which a non-consecrated believer will not do. We will observe them in the life of Moses (and even other servants of God).

Moses did three things:

He refused: The bible says when Moses came of age, he refused the privileges of the Egyptian royal house (Heb 11:24 MSG). When you are totally committed to God (and his cause), it will show in the things you refuse. The things you refuse might not necessarily be unlawful, but for the sake of Christ, you are willing to let go of them (1Cor 10:23; Phil 3: 7, 8)

He chose: Moses chose a hard life as opposed to a soft life. Choosing between two good things is an easy choice compared to choosing between suffering and enjoyment. The world has pleasures to offer, even sin has its pleasures, but the consecrated believer has turned his back on all that. By choosing God, he has chosen whatever comes with his commitment to God. So be it pleasure, comfort, hardship, shame, or ridicule, it makes no difference to him. He has made his choice: God.

He valued: Moses valued suffering FAR GREATER than Egyptian wealth, why? Christ. He didn’t just value suffering, no, he valued suffering in God’s camp FAR GREATER than the best the world had to offer. This is how to value in consecration; make up your mind to do God’s will, and that whatever comes as a result of obeying God and doing his will is FAR GREATER than whatever pleasure or good that can come from not obeying His will.

Go into today remembering that there’s no middle ground, you cannot serve two masters at the same time. Serve the Lord.

GREATER RICHES – THE CONSECRATION

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1833

Hebrews 11:26 (KJV)
Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward

The word esteem speaks to your value system. Our text speaks of the choices Moses made and the question you must ask is, what could have motivated Moses to make the choices he made? Think about it, what would you choose between slavery and royalty? Between suffering and great riches? The rational choices here are clear, but Moses chose the exact opposite, why?

The kind of choices Moses made can only be made from a place of deep, total and complete commitment and consecration to a person or a cause. Commitment makes what would have seemed like an irrational choice very rational. Why will a soldier run off to battle knowing full well he could die there? He has consecrated (separated) himself to a cause. Secondly, an understanding and a looking forward to the reward made Moses make the choices he did. As a believer, you can never truly serve God the way he demands unless you are fully committed in consecration to him.

This kind of consecration is seen in all who fulfilled God’s will over their lives, because only total consecration can make a man choose to take the difficult, hard and inconvenient steps it takes to serve the Lord fully; to bear the ridicule, shame, contempt and abuse that comes with standing for Christ in a perverse and ungodly world. These men recognized and acknowledged that living for God is the cause they must pour their life to.

Hear Jesus before Pilate: “To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world” (John 18:37c). Hear Paul in threat of bonds and affliction: “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24).

What say you? Have you separated yourself to the cause of God? Decide.

FAMILY MATTERS – THE CULTURE

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1832

Amos 3:2 (KJV)
“You only have I known from all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.”

Family, they say, is the smallest unit of society. The family is an important part of society; it is tasked with the responsibility of providing care, support, nourishment, and nurture for its members. Our text today reveals that of old, God chose to adopt the people of Israel as his family of choice. As such, they became special people separate from all others.

Because of them being God’s family, they enjoyed God’s divine providence in ways no other nation around them did. They were preserved and kept and later on enjoyed the great privilege of having God become flesh through their lineage. However, also because of this connection to God, they were not permitted to live their lives like other nations around them. They were not to imitate or imbibe the customs of their neighbors but were to imbibe and follow the custom of God’s family. Time and time again, they underwent discipline when they went against God’s instructions.

Today, all who have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ are now members of God’s family (Eph 2:19). Therefore, you must understand that your culture and custom differs from that of the world, which is why Romans 12 verse 2 (NLT) reads “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect”. As members of God’s family, you must learn to allow the word of God shape your thoughts, desires, and worldview; you must learn to resist the allure and enticement of the world’s way, and tenaciously hold on to the righteous way of God.

If you belong to God’s family, then let your light shine.

STAYING FREE INDEED

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NET)
No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.

Each time Ikenna read this Bible verse, it seemed untrue to him because of his experience. He had found temptations that he could not overcome but kept falling against his will. It appeared that these temptations were beyond what he could bear.

After Apostle Paul admonished the Corinthians with the example of the people of Israel who were judged in the wilderness because of their unbelief, rebellion, and disobedience, he went ahead to remind them that there is no temptation they face that they are not able to overcome. That with every temptation, God would provide an escape route. This is an admonition to normal Christians who are not slaves to sin but are now free.

When a Christian finds that he is having temptations that are so compulsive that it always ends up as if he has no way out, and he keeps falling against his will, it may be an indication that he needs to be delivered and set free from the bondage of that sin.

Lasting deliverance from any kind of bondage is received through the knowledge of The Truth (see John 8:33-34). This knowledge is facilitated by devotion to the ministry of the word and prayer.

There is the place for the deliverance ministry; indeed, the Lord has commanded us to cast out demons(Matt 10:8). But in order for the believer to be free and stay free, through devotion to the word and prayer, he must be filled with the Spirit of Truth--and thereby have no more room for the demon of bondage which would seek to come back to its old home(see Matt 12:43-45).

Go into today remembering that you have been given the authority to cast out demons. Any recurring temptation that seems overpowering is most likely facilitated by a demon that must be cast out if there must be freedom.

ARE YOUR STEPS TRULY ORDERED?

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1830

Psalm 37:23 (KJV)
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

Watching a military march-past or parade is a thing of beauty that draws applause from all. Their tidy regalia, focus, command execution, and uniformity are outstanding; unlike those of laymen or paramilitary outfits where missteps abound. Very crucial to their standard is their discipline, consistency, and adherence to their parade commandant.

From today's Bible verse, the word "ordered" is synonymous with soldiering. Because as believers, we are soldiers for Christ, it becomes very pertinent that most of our life's decisions [whether minor or major] aren't just casual or based on our own understanding, but based on God's leading (Pro 3:5-6, 2Tim 2:3-4).

Soldiers attain a high level of brilliance in their march-past, only after they have gone through discipline and repeated practice. As with the things of God, taking the right step, prevailing and eliciting victory applause, involves active discipleship and getting oneself attuned to the leading of God's Spirit (1Cor 2:10-16; 2Tim 2:15).

Isaiah 30:21 (NIV) says - Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

That is the voice of the Holy Spirit and He is the parade commandant whose voice we are to always heed. He reveals to us the mind of Jesus (our Commander-in-Chief) and directs us on how to do His will. He lovingly corrects us and helps maintain our right status if we veer towards sin. He is our navigational guide through all of life's obstacles. Knowing Him personally is true success in life (Jh 14, 15, 16).

Go into today knowing that the Holy Spirit is a friendly commandant. As you obey Him by word study and prayers, your life will never lack direction.

KEEPING THE SPIRIT STRONG 2

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1829

2 Timothy 2:3-5 (KJV)
Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

Because Bayo knew he needed help against the terrible backsliding that had bedeviled him, he opened up to his friend and told him about his weaknesses and failures. His friend who lived in another city started praying for him, and with him via phone calls.

Bayo and his friend agreed that he was going to get a house close to his office. This was because he was spending too much time on transit to his office and back. Bayo had started saving money which he intended to use to buy a house in a cheaper neighborhood. But he took a part of this money and used it to rent a house in the expensive Ireland his office was located. He did this because he needed to spend less time on the road and use the saved time to pray and have quiet time with the Lord. This plan worked perfectly, and Bayo started recovering spiritually. Great joy [that money could not buy] now filled his heart.

One of the lessons Bayo learned from his friend was that he was to endure hardness as a good soldier of Christ. A good example of this hardness is waking up to pray even when you don't feel like praying because of sleep. The best way to do this is to leave the location of sleep and go to a place where sleep would be less likely.

Go into today remembering that your faith is the greatest treasure you have. It is far more precious than gold (worldly riches)-- it has eternal everlasting value(1 Pet 1:7). No sacrifice is too great to make in order to keep yourself from a shipwreck of the faith. Many saints of old gave their lives because they would not lose this faith (see Heb 12:4, Heb 10:32-34).

BE TRULY PLANTED

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1828

Psalm 92:13 (KJV)
Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.

An elder in a church had spent many years in various positions. Though feared by some, he was generally not liked by anyone because of his character. Without gaining any new converts, ministries he was asked to head soon started diminishing in numbers.

Individually and collectively with Christ, we are the house of God, and not our worship venues or denomination to which we belong. This means our quality [of character] as parts of God’s building matters a lot (1Cor 3:6-17, Eph 2:19-22, 1Pet 2:5).

Though many view today's scripture mainly in the light of commitment and participation in church activities (which is still an aspect of it), being planted in its true sense refers to one's personal growth in Christ, one's benefit to His kingdom, and one's godly influence on others.

Colossians 2:7 says we are to be "Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith…”

Being established in the faith is the fertilizer that encourages growth and rootedness. It is a result of obedience to the Word of God. In expressing our faith, we must be motivated by love; helping others also to become planted in God's house (Rom 3:31, Rom 13:8-10, Gal 5:6).

The way to flourish is for one to walk in love and hate sin (Heb 1:9). By this, people will see that we are truly planted in God's house and desire to be a part of it (Isa 61:3, John 13:35, Col 1:10, Tit 2:7-8).

Go into today knowing that being planted in God's house means having a deeper bond, trust, and love for Christ. By abiding in this attitude, you'll undoubtedly flourish (Ps 1:1-3, Ps 92:14, Jer 17:7-8).

STAYING SPIRITUALLY STRONG

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1827

Ephesians 6:18 (KJV)
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints

Bayo experienced great revival during his days as a youth corps member for his country. During this period, he became trained in the way of prayer and the ministry of the word. After he finished his youth service, he continued to grow and enjoy God’s presence through the ministry of the Word and prayer.

He got a very high paying high demand job. Because of the nature of this new job, he had to leave the house very early in the morning and get back home at night. This started telling greatly on his prayer and word life. He could no longer pray as before and had no time for Bible studies during the week. Apart from the fact that he now had less time to pray, the zeal and desire he used to have for prayer and fellowship with the Lord seemed to have vanished.

This continued for weeks and months. He knew he was waning in spiritual strength when the temptations he had overcome long ago started overpowering him. He now knew he needed help.

No matter what heights you have attained spiritually, if you take away prayer and the ministry of the word from your daily disciplines for long, you will eventually fall. The devil understands this too well, that's why he would do anything he can to distract God's people from consistency in the word and prayer.

The Lord knows you cannot survive without a prayer life, that's why there are numerous instructions to us in the New Testament concerning praying always (see 1 Thess 5:17, Col 4:2, Phil 4:6, Jude 1:20, Luke 18:1,21:36, Mark 14:38, 1 Pet 4:7, Rom 12:12, Eph 6:18).

Go into today remembering that praying always for the believer is not an option, it is the only way to excel in spiritual life.

THE JUDGMENT OF GOD

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1826

1 Corinthians 10:11-12 (NKJV)
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Certain teachers assert that God does not judge His people in the new covenant. They claim it was Peter who killed Ananias and Sapphari, not God. They claim that it was angels acting rogue that executed wrath on people in the Old Testament and even in the New.

Let's examine the veracity of such claims:

In today's Bible verses, we see a direct warning from the Lord through apostle Paul, and the example used was the people of Israel who left Egypt but were destroyed in the wilderness because of the judgment of God. We see that these things happened for our example and learning. (Read 1Cor 10 from verse 1).

From 1 Cor 10, we can see that apostle Paul does not believe that God's wrath does not come upon the disobedient believer. Neither Apostle Peter nor any of the other apostles believed this (see Heb 12:28-29, Jude 1:5, 1 John 5:16-17). They warned believers about judgment for rebellion because they understood God could take drastic measures against some in order to preserve the rest from the leaven of their corruption.

See how Apostle Peter puts it here:
1 Peter 4:17 (NKJV) For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

Go into today remembering that you shall give account for this life you are living. The judge stands before the door (James 5:9). He shall reward the faithful but punish the profane.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you abide in Him and walk in His rewards rather than His rebukes.

THE COST OF YOUR SALVATION

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1825

1 Peter 1:18-19 (NKJV)
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

If God became a man, the best he would be called would be the 'Son of God' because technically, God is not a man (man is limited, God is unlimited) and a man is not God (see Num 23:19). That’s why even though Jesus is God [come in the flesh], He is rightfully called the SON OF GOD.

God became a man and the name of that man is Jesus Christ. God becoming a man could happen only once, and that’s why Jesus is the ONLY begotten Son of God. Yet God was willing to sacrifice He who is His only image (see Heb 1:3) in this three-dimensional realm.

So powerful was this sacrifice that the second person of the Godhead practically had to leave heaven to become a man and remain a man for all eternity. After His resurrection, Jesus remains a man--even today (see 1 Tim 2:5). In order for Him to regain His glory as God, God had to exalt Him and give Him a name that is above other names (Phil 2:9, Heb 2:9).

The next time the devil tries to trivialize your salvation or make you feel small, weak and irrelevant, remind him that your salvation was paid for by the life of his creator and sustainer. Nothing in all of eternity is as expensive as your salvation.

Knowing how much it cost God to save you; how that He gave His life for you, the most reasonable thing to do in response is to offer yourself to God and live for Him (see Rom 12:1-2).

Prayer: ask the Lord to help you walk in a way that is worthy of His great call (Eph 4:1).

TAKE WORDS WITH YOU

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1824

Hosea 14:2 (KJV)
Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

Words are powerful. Stick and stones may break your bones but words can break your spirit. With words, you can create and shape emotions. Right words can strengthen a weary man; hurtful words can break a man’s spirit. Many ladies have been led astray by cunningly devised deceitful words. In fact, the Bible tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue (Prov 18:21), so we must pay attention to words.

There is the story of a young boy who was faced with a gigantic opposition. Yes, he did pick up five stones but that wasn’t all he took along. When threatened and derided by the giant opposition, David replied first with words and not stones. He had first said to Saul “the Lord who delivered me from the bear and lion will likewise deliver me out of the giant’s hand” he also went ahead to say to the Philistine, ‘the Lord will deliver you into my hand’.

We are soldiers, part of our armor is the sword of the spirit which is the word of God (Eph 6:17). Just as in Hebrews 13 verses 5c and 6a(NLT) it is written “for God has said, … So we can say with confidence”. Take words with you. God’s words; confidently spoken. Let this sword-word be on your lips.

Take words with you. Take it to work, take it to school, and take it up at home. Speak it witnessing, speak it praying, speak it declaring; SPEAK IT. Boldly, consistently, continually.

HOW FREE IS SALVATION?

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1822

Isaiah 53:10 (KJV)
Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

“My dad died when I was two years old, I barely can tell what he looked like. Mama determined to give me the very best and worked overtime in a coal mine. She died of lung cancer at age fifty-two. She did not enjoy what she worked so hard and suffered for. I am a success today because of her pains and sacrifices. This is why I have made up my mind to give my children the best.” This was what Ted’s dad told him that made him decide to leave his irresponsible life of drugs, drinking, partying and womanizing-- he never cared about how anyone felt. He decided to change and start caring when he listened to his Dad and realized how much his grandmother suffered for them to be where they were. He was now ready to be saved.

John 3:16-17: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

The price paid for your salvation is Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten son. There is no other price worth more than him.

You see, salvation is not free; it was paid for by God but offered to you freely.  If you understand the immeasurable price paid for you to be free, you will not live carelessly, instead, you will live your life in gratitude to God.

As you go into today, remember to give thanks to God for all He has done to redeem you from eternal destruction.

GET-RICH-QUICK SCHEMES 4

Get Audio Version Here: bit.ly/aud1822

Jeremiah 17:11 (NLT)
11 Like a partridge that hatches eggs she has not laid, so are those who get their wealth by unjust means. At midlife they will lose their riches; in the end, they will become poor old fools.

Making money from Ponzi schemes, gambling/betting, embezzling public funds or even by certain kinds of financial speculation that exclude productivity, are common unjust ways people make money today. We dare to say this because we are Christians, and the church is the pillar and ground of truth. Selah.

Any business transaction in which both parties do not gain something is an unjust transaction. For example, if I sell you a commodity, I will lose it but will have gained the money. You will lose your money but will have gained the commodity. We both gained something. But something is wrong if I alone gained.

When you buy shares of a productive company, you make a profit because the company makes a profit and is becoming more valuable, not because people are losing their money. That is a just way to make gains.

There is nothing as dangerous as ignorance for Christians. Unfortunately, in the spirit realm, ignorance is not an excuse. When a Christian gets involved in businesses that only generate profit from other people’s loss, he has participated in a business that thrives only on greed. Such businesses are really not different in spiritual principle from gambling.

There is nothing that scares the devil like when real Christians are controlling real wealth in this world. He understands that this means greater influence for God’s kingdom on the earth. He wants Christians to be lured into Get-rich-quick schemes so that they will lose their power to make real enduring wealth.

Go into today asking the Lord to empower you to walk in His spiritual wisdom and understanding in all things. Ask Him to deliver you from the Love of money and help you love righteousness and hate wickedness (see Heb 1:9).

GET-RICH-QUICK SCHEMES 3

Get Audio Version(More explanations in the Audio): bit.ly/aud1821

Proverbs 13:11 [NLT]
Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.

Kemi and Grace were best friends who both decided to be entrepreneurs. Kemi got seriously involved with a get-rich-quick scheme. She invested all her money into it and started making huge gains. She was now an evangelist for that scheme and would hold large workshops to get people to join. She was indeed very successful in it. She paid cash for a brand new car in months.

Kemi was very displeased with Grace because Grace refused to join her. Grace was not led to join but insisted she would rather spend her time and effort learning to be an excellent tailor and starting her own clothing brand. For the first two years, things were not easy for Grace, and Kemi would laugh at her but never help.

After the period Grace spent to build her skill, she started producing and marketing very nice clothes, and things started picking up. Her business became profitable and continued to grow steadily. By this time, the Ponzi scheme Kemi joined had crashed. She was no more making the huge sums she once made.

Because money initially came so easily to Kemi, she squandered everything she had saved, and every effort she put into starting a profitable business failed because she had lost the power to make wealth. In five years, Kemi was now poor and wished she could be one of Grace’s many employees.

When a person becomes addicted to get-rich-quick schemes, he loses the ability to settle down and get wealth through honest gain. He must always have to find another such scheme in order to stay afloat financially. People who embezzle public funds to become rich have the same fate.

Life is spiritual, and power to get wealth is spiritually given by God, it can be squandered (see Deut 8:18).

Go into today knowing that it is God who gives you the power to get wealth. Don’t squander yours on a get-rich-quick trap.

Proverbs 13:11 [NLT]
Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.

The smartphone or device with which you are reading or listening to this devotional was purchased because it meets your needs of communication and entertainment. The manufacturer has made money because he has met a need.

Christians are righteous and just people. God blesses us by giving us ideas that help us solve problems. Wealth is generated when problems are solved. Unproductive forms of making money include schemes that promise to produce gain but have no productivity. They include gambling and Ponzi schemes.

As attractive as unproductive forms of making money may look, they are what the Bible calls get-rich-quick schemes. They ultimately bring every society to its knees economically. Imagine that everyone in the world was only involved in such schemes to make money; there would be no more food to eat, no new clothes to wear and no machines to use. The world will shut down because there would no more be productivity but only greed.

A Ponzi scheme is one that promises to provide money and help, yet it has no form of productivity. The only thing a Ponzi scheme does is to use the money new people bring in to pay those who have already brought in money. When there are no more new people in the system, it is bound to crash and produce great loss and pain to the investors; people who invested with the expectation to make gains.

Everyone who makes a profit through a Ponzi scheme or betting makes money from the potential loss of someone else. I believe one of the demonic assignments of Ponzi schemes (betting, gambling, some forms of financial speculation) is to take the power to make real wealth from the people of God.

Go into today knowing that as a Christian, it is not everything the world does to make money that you can do. God empowers you to make enduring wealth according to His principles of righteousness and justice.

GET-RICH-QUICK SCHEMES 1

Get Audio Version(More explanations in the Audio): bit.ly/aud1819

Luke 16:11 (KJV)
If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

I believe there is something about money that made Jesus call it mammon of unrighteousness (also see Luke 16:9). Let’s take a look at the history of money.

Before money was invented (around 1500 BC), humankind did business by barter. People exchanged goods for goods, goods for services, or services for services. But since money was invented, people now exchange goods for money and services for money, etc. The problem with this is that as long as a person has money, he can have its value in goods or services, regardless of how he got the money or whether he truly has the requisite service or good whose value he posses in form of cash. Money, therefore, provided accommodation for unrighteousness in the world more than ever before. Unproductive ways of getting money like Get-rich-quick schemes: Ponzi schemes, gambling, etc. became possible or easier because money now existed. Money now gave proper expression to the spirit called mammon. This spirit seeks to be worshiped rather than God.

Any system that generates money without any form of productivity is an unrighteous system. Such a system will have to generate money by robbing some people to pay other people. Satan loves such thieving systems, he is the thief (see John 10:10). It is no hidden truth that financial speculation has been considered by many nations around the world as an economic canker because it has the capacity of making people who are not really productive in the economy very rich just because they know how to move money around. The future ripple effect of this is economic loopholes that would have to be plugged by wanton government spending in bailouts and debts. I believe the climax of such unchecked economic activities is what would pave way for the coming of the antichrist, who would come to ‘save’ the world from economic woe.

A person who gambles hopes to generate money not by being productive, but by taking advantage of other people’s loss. Ponzi schemes and pyramid schemes also fall into this category. Online betting is a form of gambling. These are unrighteous ways of making money because they are thieving methods sanctioned by the prince of this world. They are fueled by greed and nothing else. We know that greed (lust of the eyes) is of the world and not from God (see 1 John 2:16). Nothing of the world should be found in a Christian because they give the prince of this world sway (see John 14:30, 1 John 2:15-16).

Go into today remembering what God says in Proverbs 13:11 (NLT): Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.

THE SWEET TRUTH

Download Audio Version: bit.ly/aud1818

Revelation 10:10 (KJV)
And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

While reading an online article on why bitter foods are good for the stomach, I learned that they help keep the body balanced, countering sluggishness that could arise from too many sweet things. And that they contain nutrients that stimulate the liver into producing bile for optimal digestion and detoxification.

Unlike some foods or pills that are bitter from the onset, to the spiritually healthy, God's word as food or medicine is sweet to taste and better when fully digested. It benefits one at every point in time: from its ingestion (head knowledge) to its digestion (heart conviction), there are blessings (Psa 119:103, Jer 15:16).

As one studies and meditates on the truth of God's word, he receives true life and spiritual enlightenment, which elevates him from just knowing about God's precious promises, to the euphoria of actually experiencing them (Psa 119:130, Jh 14:6, 2Cor 1:20, 2Pet 1:4).

Unlike the popular worldly saying that the truth is always bitter, we must know that each time we yield ourselves to sin, the truth of God's word at that moment, will be distasteful as it chastizes us. Nevertheless, it purifies and makes us truly free, that we might live spiritually healthy and happy lives (Jh 8:32, Jh 17:17, Heb 12:11)

Stay hungry for the truth of God's word, and as you feed on it daily, you will experience growth and a life of peace and vitality in spirit, soul, and body (Pro 4:20-22, 1Pet 2:2, 2Pet 1:2).

BEWARE OF EVIL, SUCCESS MERCHANTS

Audio Version link: bit.ly/aud1817

Ezekiel 13:17 - 19 MSG
“And the women prophets—son of man, take your stand against the women prophets who make up stuff out of their own minds. Oppose them. Say ‘Doom’ to the women who sew magic bracelets and head scarves to suit every taste, devices to trap souls. Say, ‘Will you kill the souls of my people, use living souls to make yourselves rich and popular? You have profaned me among my people just to get ahead yourselves, used me to make yourselves look good—killing souls who should never have died and coddling souls who shouldn’t live. You’ve lied to people who love listening to lies.’

There's an evil spreading quickly, where social media especially, is expertly used to advertise sorcery. Due to an insatiable quest for money, fame, security, etc, many now openly solicit the services of sorcery, fancifully repackaged as jewelry, cosmetics, elixirs, lotteries, etc, to fuel their hedonistic lifestyles.

The ultimate aim of their craft is to turn men away from God. They appear harmless but will covertly ensnare and enslave those caught by their deceit into endless cycles, in pursuit of vanity. Therefore, God in His displeasure has issued out a strong warning to such success merchants, who are very clever in disguising idolatry (Acts 8:9-11; 18-23, 1Tim 6:6-10).

The spiritual media of God's word is the truth, greater than the deceitfulness of social media, which portrays all that glitters as gold. We mustn't envy those who are engaged in deeds sponsored by fear or spiritual beguiling, but rather, expose them by living for Christ (Matt 5:13-16, Acts 13:6-12).

Go into today, defined, not by the many "likes" online but by the real "Love" of One Divine, who died so that you can have true success (Pro 8:12-21, Jh 10:10).

THE LORD WILL RESTORE

Download Audio Version(More explanations in the Audio): bit.ly/aud1816

Luke 22:31-32 (KJV)
And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

Desmond backside so terribly that he became a prayer point for many of his converts. He went back to the bad habits of his old life and was now living like an unbeliever. It wasn't that he didn't still love God but he found that he was now overpowered by the flesh, and it was as if he was in a pit that he couldn't come out of.

Because of the prayers and love of the brethren around him, he was restored. After the Lord restored him, he became a mighty tool in the hand of the Lord to restore many others.

The major trick the devil uses to cause people to fall and remain on the ground is his lies that bring condemnation. If the devil can distract and hinder a believer from the ministry of prayer and the word for a long time, that believer will become spiritually weak and might not be able to withstand the temptations of the devil. He may be able to withstand normal temptations sponsored by the flesh, but when demons are empowering the temptations (as they often do), he may not stand a chance because he is spiritually malnourished and weak. If the believer falls into a temptation powered by demons, they would ensure that his fall comes with a level of condemnation that is unusual. They will make the believer feel worthless and so dirty that he may not even have the courage to pray. This means more weakness and more falls.

Go into today remembering that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. If you fall, rise up and move on. Don’t let the devil keep you on the ground with his lies that bring condemnation. Open up to believers who can help pull you back up if an issue becomes too stubborn for you to handle.

Prayer: heavenly father, do not let me fall into temptation, and deliver me from [doing] evil.

THE BELIEVER AND MONEY

Download Audio Version: bit.ly/aud1815

Ecclesiastes 5:10 (NET)
The one who loves money will never be satisfied with money, he who loves wealth will never be satisfied with his income. This also is futile.

I recently had a conversation with a friend, and he was complaining about a certain wealthy man who was a believer he knew. So stingy was this man that those who worked with him complained and groaned bitterly. My friend went ahead to explain to me how wealthy this man was, yet the workers that worked closest to him were in terrible lack.

The way this man behaved in relation to money, it was practically impossible for him to win a soul for the Lord in his place of work.

People would only care about what you have to preach when they believe that you care.

Our conversation got me thinking. I realized that some of the stingiest people are some of the richest. When I read today's Bible verse, it became clearer to me that those who love money are never satisfied with it. They would always want to get more. Some billionaire would not mind impoverishing and taking from the very poor who can hardly feed.

People reflect the image of who they love. Those who love money will unwittingly reflect the mean, selfish and wicked nature of the spirit called mammon. But those who love God will radiate his benevolent, kind and gracious nature.

It is unfortunate when Christians are found to love money. Jesus made it very clear that you cannot love God and love money (Matt 6:24, Luke 16:13). It is possible to have a lot of money and not love money but use money. But those who love money are used and controlled by money. They are not rested and do not enjoy the money in the right sense because they are never really satisfied. That is futile.

Go into today knowing that a believer who is still controlled by the love of money cannot be a true witness of the Lord Jesus. A believer who cannot be an effective witness because of his love of money is actually seen as wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked in the Lord’s sight (see Rev 3:17).

Ask the Lord to help you walk above the love of money and be an effective witness for Him.
