Philippians 4:8 (NET) Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.

After Olamide was filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, she felt so much joy and liberty in her heart that she determined to do everything it took to stay filled with the Holy Spirit at all times. She had read teachings about being filled with the spirit several times but she wanted a practical guide to actually walk in a spirit-filled life. She realized that what she allowed to dwell in her mind was key to controlling the mood of her heart. Today's Bible verse became a guide for her.

I have come to notice that a heavy and depressed countenance does not engender a spirit-filled life. If you put on the television or read the newspaper, you will notice that most of the news there will attempt to take away your joy and send you to a mood of depression or sadness. It is good to be informed by the news, but guard your heart and don't let it control your countenance.

If you ponder on the behavior of many people you have to deal with(even certain Christians), you would realize that being joyful does not come naturally. But we are instructed to "rejoice in the Lord always"(see Phil 4:4). The spirit-filled life is a joy-filled life (read Ephesians 5: 19-21). This is not because there are no sorrows in the world or things that can keep us depressed and moody, but because the presence of God the Holy Spirit within us is bigger than anything that is happening outside us. What we focus on will determine the outcomes of our lives.

Today's Bible verse instructs us on the things we should ponder upon. Do not let your mind dwell long on thoughts that do not inspire thanksgiving and praise. Discipline your mind to always find the good in every situation and dwell on it. Find a reason to give thanks in all things because this is the will of God for us in Christ Jesus.

Go into today remembering that the Spirit-filled life is a joy and thanksgiving-filled life. You cannot control the Holy Spirit but you control what your mind ponders on which in turn controls your mood and determines whether you will be Spirit-filled or not.

Prayer: Lord, help me lead a spirit-filled life, In Jesus' name. Amen.

Acts 2:38-39 (NET) Peter said to them, “Repent, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

After Olamide accepted that all her sins had been forgiven and the deep-rooted guilt in her heart was washed away, she received the gift of the Holy Spirit and started to speak in tongues as the Spirit gave her utterance. She had believed in the Lord for several years but just could not receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This was because of some level of guilt she still retained in her conscience. This was dealt with through the miracle of water baptism.

You will see that in today's Bible verse, Apostle Peter tells the people to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins, and then they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Many have been able to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit even before they were baptized in water because they believed that their sins had been forgiven and they got rid of all deep-rooted guilt in their consciences after they believed(this was usually easier for the Gentiles because they did not have an elaborate consciousness of sin like the Jews who had the law). But many others have found that their consciences received the required freedom needed for them to be able to be filled with the Holy Spirit after they were baptized in water. Indeed, the baptism of the Holy Spirit has come to some immediately after their baptism in water. That was the case with our Lord Jesus Christ(Matthew 3:16).

In 1 Peter, we see that water baptism is a pledge [or answer] of a good conscience to God. There is clearly a connection between it and the conscience. 1 Peter says:

"And baptism, which is a figure [of their deliverance], does now also save you [from inward questionings and fears], not by the removing of outward body filth [bathing], but by [providing you with] the answer of a good and clear conscience (inward cleanness and peace) before God [because you are demonstrating what you believe to be yours] through the resurrection of Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 3:21 AMPC.

Go into today remembering that you cannot walk in the fullness of the spirit[and your spiritual gifts] if your conscience is still weighed down by any level of guilt. Deal with the guilt in your conscience through the water(the word of God) and the blood(remembering and depending on the sacrifice of Christ) and you will receive an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in a new measure.

Prayer: Lord, deliver me from all guilt so I may walk in the fulness of the Spirit. Amen.

Romans 8:9 (NET) You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to him.

After Zoe believed in the Lord and was baptized in the Holy Spirit, she was empowered to learn of Christ and receive His Spirit(become like Christ in character and nature). But because she was distracted by the cares of this life and the deceitfulness of riches, she did not remain in the Lord but went back to the world. Two years passed and certain bad things happened to her that brought her back to the Lord in tears and repentance. At this point, she knew that even though the gifts of the spirit she received the day she was baptized still remained, she was not safe because she didn't have the Spirit[and character] of Christ.

The Holy Spirit we have received [as a gift] empowers us to walk in the Spirit and nature of Christ. It is possible to refuse to yield to the Holy Spirit and go back to the world. The gifts of the Spirit may remain and manifest if we know how to work them, but they are no guarantee that we belong to Christ.

On the last day, many will appear before the Lord and think that because they have received the power of the Holy Spirit and gifts, they would be qualified to enter the kingdom, but many who did not cooperate with the Holy Spirit to birth the spirit and nature of Christ in them would be sorely disappointed. Here's what the Lord says will happen: Matthew 7:22-23(KJV) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Go into today remembering that what God looks out for is our fruits. The Spirit [and character] of Christ is the real proof that we have truly been born of God.

Don’t Live Like Them

Ephesians 4:17 (KJV) This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind.

We were told first how to walk in verse 1, and now we are told in this verse how not to walk. We are to stop walking “as other Gentiles [unbelievers] walk.”

When Christians become carnal, they no longer are controlled by the Spirit of God, and they act just like the world. There should be a distinct separation between the outward life of a Christian and that of a sinner. Sin is sin, and God hates it. This scripture is a command against carnality for Christians.

Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles. The Ephesians were  Gentiles. Paul is not talking about walking according to the law of Moses because the Gentiles were never given the law. He is showing a distinction between the Gentile Christian and the Gentile unbeliever. We are Gentiles also and well acquainted with sin. We live in a world full of sin. Our earth is perverted by the devil and the world’s system. But as Christians, we should show a distinction and a separation in our outward lives because of the knowledge of the Word inside of us.

There is a process of growing to go through in order to come to the place of laying aside every sin. When you are born again, the seed is planted inside. The seed will grow as you study the Word and pray. As it grows, the new life will be manifested in the outward life. Walk each day in the knowledge you have, and the Lord will forgive the sins you commit in ignorance. When you do commit a sin you know about, ask the Lord to forgive you. He promises He will (See 1 John 1:7, 9). The Lord has commanded you to learn when you are born again:
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden [sinners], and I will give you rest [new birth]. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me (Matt. 11:28-29).
Knowledge brings growth. As you grow, there will be a new area each day you will have strength to lay aside. Like a child growing up, you will come to the place where you no longer stumble and fall. You can “walk circumspectly” (Ephesians5:15).

Go into today knowing that when the Word is in you in abundance, you have no excuse for sinning. Your life is to be an example to the world.

Prayer: Father, help me to hunger for the word that I may grow thereby

James 1:22 (KJV) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Sandra did not know that she had been deceiving herself because she felt that because she could still speak in tongues, all was well. Also, she was a very faithful tither.

The day she found out she was deceiving herself was when she joined the Evangelism unit and they went for prison evangelism. They came in contact with a young man who asked them to pray for him because he knew he was demon-possessed. As they started to pray, the demon inside him started to cry out. But she noticed that when she prayed, the demon had no regard for her voice, but reacted when even some younger Christians commanded it come out.

It became clear to Sandra that she had no spiritual authority even though she had been in the church for a long time. She was not a doer of the word but was living in sin.

Yesterday we saw that those who continue to hear the word of God but do not do what it says but continue to come back to church usually do so because they believe that even though they are not doers of the word, they are still saved and would inherit the kingdom of God. Unknown to them, they are simply deceiving themselves. The problem with self-deception is that the person will be sincerely convinced that what they have deceived themselves into believing is the truth.

Believers who are not controlled by God's word will not be able to walk in the power of God's word and kingdom. The degree to which we are submitted to God is the degree to which His power and authority would be in our lives. There are people that if they resist the devil, he will have no choice but to flee from them. These people are those who are submitted to God (See James 4:7).

Go into today remembering that being a doer of the word is the secret to true spiritual authority.

Prayer: Lord, help me be a doer of your word and be fruitful in every good work. Amen.

James 1:22 (KJV) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Sandra was in church for every meeting. She kept coming to hear the word of God because she believed she was a believer who was on her way to heaven. The problem was that she was not a doer of the word, she was merely a hearer only. Somehow she had deceived herself to believe that her conduct as a person does not matter. She was living [in sin] with her boyfriend, but she was a regular hearer of God's word in the church and had convinced herself that she was heaven-bound.

In today's verse, notice that the Holy Spirit talks about hearers of the word, not those who simply heard once. The reason a person can be called a hearer of the word is that he keeps hearing the word,  not just that he heard it once.

A hearer who is not a doer of the word is one who keeps coming back to church to hear the word because he somehow believes that despite the fact that he is not living according to the word of God, he is saved and going to heaven. The Bible says that such a person is only deceiving himself.

Believers who refuse to live in obedience to God's word are simply deceiving themselves when they believe they will inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor 6:9, 1 John 3:7). See what our Lord Jesus says in Matthew:

Matthew 7:21 (KJV) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

The will of God is contained in His word, We must be doers of His word.

Go into today remembering that a person who deceives himself is one who doesn't live in obedience to the word, but believes that he is safe because he is in church hearing the word.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please deliver me from self-deception. Help me to live in obedience to your word and be fruitful in every good work. Amen.

The Ministry Gifts

Ephesians 4:11, 12. (KJV) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.

The “He” that gave the gifts is the Lord Jesus, the one who descended, ascended, and completed all things. In 1Corinthians 12:28, we find that He gave these gifts to the church. As long as we still have the church, we still have all five of the ministry offices. However, these gifts were given to actualize God’s intended purpose in the church.

The original Greek (of verse 12) has no commas or punctuation marks. If you remove the first comma, the sentence might make more sense. The ministry gifts are “for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry.” The ministry gifts are not to do the work of the ministry [alone]. They are to perfect the saints so they can go do the work of the ministry. This is called discipleship. Jesus told us to go into all nations and make disciples of them (Matthew 28:19-20).

Ministers are not to do the work alone but are to teach the people to do the work. The minister should not have to come to your house and witness to your neighbor. He should instruct you in the Word so you can witness to your neighbor. The ministry offices are not doormats for you to walk over and use for your own whims. They are called by God to stand in their appropriate offices and instruct you in the ways of ambassadorship for the kingdom of God.

The ministry gifts are set in the body of Christ. Yes, God can and will give you personal revelations but not like those He will give you through a ministry gift. He has called and anointed that person to that office. Your own personal revelations during times of personal study will increase as your life comes into order and you submit to a pastor. Also, when you recognize the God-given authority in other known ministers, your own prayer and study life will be more effective.

God into today with this understanding; God has set the ministry gifts in the church for my edifying and perfecting so that, as I grow, I can win others and do the work of the ministry.

Prayer: ask God for grace to be humble to receive the ministry gifts sent to you.

Because You Have Kept My Admonition

Revelation 3:10 (NET) Because you have kept my admonition to endure steadfastly, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come on the whole world to test those who live on the earth.

As Femi started to seek the Lord in prayer and fasting for the year, one of the first things he did was to ask the Lord what improvements he needed to make in his life to walk better in pleasing the Lord. He sensed the Lord leading him to be more committed to prayers this year. When he got to church in the evening, he received confirmation to that admonition. It was now clear to Femi that he needed to set aside some time every night to pray and spend time with the Lord henceforth.

In today’s Bible text, Jesus talked about an hour of testing. IN 1 Cor 7:26, Apostle Paul also made reference [by the spirit of prophecy] to an Impending crisis. History has it that around that period, Christians everywhere were persecuted by the very powerful Roman Empire which ruled the world. The Empire made it a duty to persecute and kill Christians everywhere, and they used their very vast resources to do this. But the Church in Philadelphia was going to be spared from this testing because they always kept the Lord’s admonition to them.

The Lord has the power to preserve His own from global or national occurrences that appear inescapable. When a person honors the Lord, the Lord honors him and would dedicate special resources for His peace and prosperity(see 1 Sam 2:30). The church at Philadelphia honored the Lord and Kept His admonition. Because of this, they were spared.

I do not know what admonition you have recently received from the Lord, but as you go into today, determine to keep the Lord’s admonition, and see His preserving grace and power multiply in every area of your life.

Forbearing One Another in Love

Ephesians 4:2 (KJV) With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.

“Meekness” is a “teachable attitude.” A meek person is not a doormat or a weak person but someone who has a teachable spirit. James tells us to “receive with meekness the engrafted word” (James 1:21). In Matthew 5:5 Jesus says that the meek will inherit the earth. Meek or teachable people are well rewarded in this lifetime and in eternity to come. Never come to a place in your Christian walk where you think you know it all. Until you come into heaven with the Lord, you will always be learning. If you think you can be taught no more, then you have just admitted your ignorance. The more you learn in this life, the more you find out you do not know.

The word “longsuffering” here means “patience.” It is the same word translated as “patience” in Hebrews 6:12, where it is stated that we are to be “followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” We all need patience in this life because it is a partner to the successful life of faith.
You can be teachable and patient, and yet stand your ground for something you know is right, but you always should do it in an attitude of love.

I envision someone who is immovable in love when I read the way David describes a righteous person as a “tree planted by the rivers of water” (Psalm 1:3). These trees are the strongest because they always have a constant supply of water. They also outlive other trees because they have no fear of drought. A strong tree bends in the wind but is never uprooted. As [abiding] believers, we are trees planted by streams of living water. We have to stand for the truth, but we must do so in an attitude of love, “forbearing one another in love.”

Go into today with the consciousness that as a believer, you have the responsibility to uphold the truth in a manner of love with forbearance.

Prayer: God, endow me with a heart that is broken and contrite, expressing your character at all times.

Revelation 3:7-9 (NET) 7 "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write the following:
"This is the solemn pronouncement of the Holy One, the True One, who holds the key of David, who opens doors no one can shut, and shuts doors no one can open: 8 'I know your deeds. (Look! I have put in front of you an open door that no one can shut.) I know that you have little strength, but you have obeyed my word and have not denied my name.

Folakemi wanted an open door so much because she understood that an open door meant opportunities for greater blessings and promotions. She did not know that an open door was already set before her. Her problem was that she couldn’t see it. She was working in a place where she literally had to deal with thousands of campus students every week, and they all held her in very high esteem. When her eyes were opened, she now saw that her influence over the students was an opportunity for her to do what the Lord had been impressing on her heart for years.

It is worthy of note that Jesus told the saints in Philadelphia to ‘LOOK! I have put in front of you an open door’. One of the biggest problems hindering people from walking into open doors is that they have not seen the doors set before them by the Lord.

An open door represents every new great opportunity provided for you to make spiritual and physical increase. One very important thing about this is that you have to see it. Secondly, you have to understand that if a particular door has been opened for you by the Lord, no person or devil can close it. This is the confidence you need to walk into your open doors.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you see every open door set before you in this season of your life. Ask for wisdom to make the best use of every opportunity set before you.

The Manifold Wisdom of God

Ephesians3:10 (KJV) To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by [through] the church the manifold wisdom of God.

God doesn’t come down and tell the devil how smart He is. He shows him how smart He is through us, the church. God had a secret from the foundation of the world before all the ages began. After the fall of Lucifer, when evil was found in heaven and earth, God had a plan which was hidden in Himself for a day to come when every believer would be able to show on the earth “the manifold wisdom of God.”

When Jesus rose from the dead, He gave all authority back to the church in His name. When a believer uses the name of Jesus, all hell comes to a halt. God is glorified, and the devil is humiliated. God smiles at Satan because we show forth His wisdom. We are inferior creatures to angels (Psalm 8:5; Hebrews 2:7) of whom Satan was a leader. We may be inferior by creation, but through the new birth, we are superior by position. What is so humiliating to Satan is to be stopped through the authority in an inferior creature—man.

You cannot stop Satan in your own name, but you can in the name of Jesus. In the name of Jesus, you can cast out devils, speak with new tongues, and lay hands on the sick, and see them recover. (See Mark 16:17-18.) That is the purpose of the mystery which was hidden in the heart of God. Can you now see why it was so important for Paul to get this truth across to the believers of his day and ours?

Go into today remembering that all authority has been given to the Lord Jesus and you are a member of His body.

Prayer: Father, please today and always, let my life manifest your manifold wisdom. In Jesus' name. Amen.

True Humility Pays

Ephesians 3:7, 8. (TPT) I have been made a messenger of this wonderful news by the gift of grace that work through me. Even though I am the least significant of all his holy believers, this grace-gift was imparted when the manifestation of his power came upon me. Grace alone empowers me so that I can boldly preach this wonderful message to non-Jewish people sharing with them the unfading, inexhaustible riches of Christ, which are beyond comprehension.

Paul points out in verse eight that he considers himself to be “least significant of all God’s holy believers.” This goes back to the opening verse of the epistle where he gives his name and office (See Eph.1:1). His name means “small” and his office means “one of highest rank.” The two can go together when you realize that in the natural you are nobody, but in the spiritual you are somebody. Paul considers in this verse that in the natural he is not worthy to be given the office of an apostle.

Paul considered himself to be the chief of sinners when he was outside the faith (1Tim. 1:15). In other words, he was on the top of the ladder. Now, as a believer, he considers himself to be on the bottom, “less than the least.” I want you to understand that you may have been the richest, most powerful, and most famous sinner on the face of the earth and are now the lowest member of the body of Christ, but you still took a step up. The lowest in God’s kingdom is a promotion from the best in Satan’s kingdom. Paul is humbled to be given the privilege of preaching “among the Gentiles the unfading, inexhaustible riches of Christ.”

Take a lesson from what Paul is saying. If you want to be used by God, don’t try to promote yourself. If you have a choice between taking the high seat or the low seat, take the low seat. You don’t need to promote yourself any more than David did as a shepherd. When it was time to find a king, God knew where David was, although Samuel did not. Men may not know where you are, but God does. When David humbled himself, God promoted him. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:6). If you try to do God’s job, He will have to do yours. If you try to exalt yourself, He will have to humble you. In the church today, it is amazing how many people want to preach from the pulpit but will not usher, teach class, or sweep the floor. Jesus told His disciples that when they were invited to a wedding they should not take the upper seats because someone more prominent might come along and ask them to move down. He told them to take the lowest seat so the host might say to them, “Friend, go up higher…For whosoever exalted himself shall be abased, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted” (Luke 14:10-11). When you enter into ministry, start at the bottom. If you sense a call to the ministry but are not sure of the Lord’s timing, start where you are. Find a Sunday school class to teach, a counseling position, or a maintenance job. Whatever you can find to do, do it with all your might. (Read Matthew 25:21).

Go into today knowing that by being faithful in little things, you will be showing the Lord that He can trust you with larger responsibilities. Remember, operating in the lowest positions will help to create a servant’s heart within you, which God will always use and promote.

Prayer: Lord, I ask that you implant the mind of Christ in me, with grace to live in humility to the glory of your name.

Matthew 11:29 (NET) Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Patrick had greatly offended Mat, and Mat was finding it very difficult to forgive him. Mat already had designed a plan to make Patrick pay dearly for what he did, but the Holy Spirit kept Ministering to Mat to forgive Patrick.

Because the Lord had spoken to Mat about his pride before, when the Lord revealed to him that the reason he found it so difficult to forgive was because of pride in his heart, he was now willing to forgive and let go.

One reason we easily get offended and find it difficult to forgive is because of the pride in our hearts. "How dare he talk to me like that, doesn't he know I am more important than him?". Pride reminds us of how "more important" than others we are and makes us forget that there is nothing we have that we have not received (see 1 Corinthians 4:7), but humility reminds us that of ourselves and by ourselves, we are nothing(John 15:5). It reminds us to treat people with dignity because they carry the image of God, not because of what they have or have accomplished.

Sometimes, we think that because we were more diligent and hard-working, we are better. Indeed, diligence is a distinguishing trait that even God commends, but the ability to be diligent and have a sound mind is a gift from God. Some people were born with brain damage and/or a very low IQ. Some were born into circumstances that broke them and took away their drive for success and diligence in anything. What did you do to contribute to the fact that you were born with a sound mind?

Go into today remembering that even though pride looks sophisticated, It is truly a product of spiritual ignorance and foolishness.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to be humble as you. Amen.

Matthew 11:29 (NET) Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Mat was very intelligent and gifted. He had several skills and abilities and was a very successful and important man.

Because he had been a Christian for many years, he realized that humility was one of the powerful virtues that allow for spiritual promotion in the kingdom, so he tried to be a humble person, but his reference point was himself not Christ. He had an appearance of humility and would bow to greet people who are older than him, but his heart was still full of pride. If someone disrespected him because of his appearance of humility, he wouldn't let it go but would find a clever way to retaliate.

This continued until the Lord revealed to him that he was not truly humble but merely had an appearance of humility.

Jesus our LORD says in today's verse that we should learn from Him, that He is humble and gentle in heart. Humility begins from the heart and would ultimately manifest in our actions. Every human being born into this world was born with a proud and selfish heart. It takes the educational system of the Holy Spirit to make a person truly humble in heart. Circumstances can impose humility upon people, but those same people would become as proud as they really are at heart if or when the circumstances turn around.

Many sins are a product of pride in the heart. For example, the reason people lie so that they would not be embarrassed is because of pride in the heart.

The only way we can become truly humble at heart is to learn from the Lord. If God our master was humble to the point of death on the cross for us, and yet has ultimately not lost anything but rather gained many sons to glory, we ought to follow His example.

Go into today knowing that it is the meek person that God can teach His ways. God resists the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.

Prayer: Lord, help me look unto you and overcome every pride and insecurity. Give me a truly meek and gentle heart, in Jesus name. Amen.

Saved, Not of Yourselves

Ephesians 2:8, 9. (NKJ) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Grace and faith fit together. God’s grace is received by our faith. Grace is God reaching out to us, and faith is our means of reaching out to Him. “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that [faith] not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” What is not of ourselves? The answer usually is that grace is not of ourselves, but that should be obvious.

What this verse is really telling us is faith is not of ourselves, it is the gift of God. Ephesians 3:12 also tells us this: “We have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.” In Acts, we read about the crippled man’s healing at the Gate Beautiful. Peter explained:

And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by [from] him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all (Acts 3:16).

In Ephesians 2:9, Paul tells us when it came to receiving the free gift of God—salvation—we did not even have the ability to become born again. God had to give us the ability to be able to receive His gift.

Imagine the president of General Motors is your special friend. A new model car is to be placed on the market, and he has brought it by your house to show it to you before it ever hits the showroom floor. He is so excited that he wants to show it to you, his special friend, first. After he shows it to you and you realize how badly you want it, he tells you the price is $100,000. Then he asks why are you laughing! You are bankrupt and have no means of buying the car. Your friend tells you he has already placed in your bank account enough money to buy the car. In other words, he designed the car and then gave you the ability to purchase it.

Faith is not just our means of receiving salvation, but it is also our means of receiving anything else God has for us. Healing, finances, and freedom from worry and oppression are all available through the faith God gives us. That way, all the glory goes to God the Father, not to us. If the faith came from us, we could boast before God. But since everything comes from God, even the means of attaining everything, then all the glory and praise goes to Him: “Not of works [human effort], lest any man should boast [glory in himself].” In addition, we are not to worship the gift, but we are to reverence the Giver of the gift. Faith is a wonderful tool given to us to acquire all of God’s blessings, but we should not worship faith. Many people today who are studying faith almost esteem faith as their god. All praise and glory should go to God and Jesus Christ. The Father is seeking those who will worship Him “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23).

As you go into today, know that you have been saved by faith in God and not because of your works and as a result, you have eternal life.

Worthy To Walk With The Lord

Revelation 3:4 [NET] But you have a few individuals in Sardis who have not stained their clothes, and they will walk with me dressed in white, because they are worthy.

When Joyce first believed, she was not a very honest person, and her words meant nothing to her. She didn’t know this was wrong, but as she grew in her walk with God, she noticed that the Lord kept revealing things in her life that were not in alignment with His righteousness. Each time this happened, she would repent, and grow in her knowledge of God and His grace (power).

We can learn from today’s Bible text that it is only those whose garments are unstained that can walk [in fellowship] with the Lord.

When a Christian walks in sin, His [spiritual] clothes are stained [by it], and he is unable to fellowship with God appropriately and walk in his spiritual authority accordingly. This cannot happen to Christians who are already walking in the light by walking in constant fellowship with God who is the light (See 1 John 1:5). Because they are walking in the light, and sin is darkness, they do not walk in sin. This does not mean they cannot be tempted and sometimes fall, but it means they cannot take their place in sin.

There are weaknesses that hinder believers from closer fellowship with God, yet these sins may be unknown to them. But as they walk in the light, the light continually reveals every darkness in them and the blood of Jesus cleanses them from it as they acknowledge (confess) it and repent (see 1 John 1:7,9). When this happens, they further advance in their knowledge (closer fellowship) of God and grow in grace and spiritual might. This is something that happens over time.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you grow in the knowledge of Him.

Psalms 103:8-9 (NET) The Lord is compassionate and merciful; he is patient and demonstrates great loyal love. He does not always accuse, and does not stay angry.

Chide and Faith's marriage was heading for the rocks because they both did not know how to overlook offenses and forgive each other. Chide was not compassionate and merciful in dealing with his wife but was full of accusations and anger towards her. Faith believed her husband did not love her anymore so she stopped making an effort in the relationship.

Their marriage was saved when they started to individually truly live according to the divine nature that they have received in Christ. They truly decided to forgive each other and be patient in dealing with one another. Chide was taught by his pastor to never again nurse accusations against his wife in his heart, but rather focus on the good in her. They were both taught to never go to bed angry over any situation (Ephesians 2:26).

We cannot desire to be like the Lord without learning this important attribute of His character: the Lord is merciful and gracious. He is patient and demonstrates great love. Being merciful is essential to having the spirit and character of Christ. We must also learn to not just love in our hearts but be demonstrators of our love for one another. The most potent way we demonstrate love is by giving. Let our love not just be in words but with action(see 1 John 3:18). Let people feel comfortable around you and know that you care.

Call people, ask about their wellbeing, give gifts(even if small), make sacrifices that show that you care. This is the Christian way.

Go into today remembering to be more merciful, patient, and loving. Proverbs 3:3-4 reveals that being merciful is a key to walking in favor in the sight of God and people.

Prayer: Lord, help me demonstrate your love to everyone I have to deal with. Help me to be truly merciful and gracious. Amen.

Psalm 5:4(KJV) For thou are not a God that pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee

Ojo told Mabel that he believed that the life of immorality he was living was a tool God was using to draw him closer to Himself. He said that people should be patient with him. He even told Mabel that he had this witness in his spirit that God was bringing him to the end of himself while he was living in sexual immorality. Mabel in her response told him that God does not use evil and darkness to tempt or purge his Children. It was clear to Mabel that the Devil had deceived Ojo. She cited Psalm 5:4 and James 1:13

The Bible says in 1John 1:5 that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. The nature of God is goodness. In Him is light and there is no darkness in Him at all. God by his nature hates iniquity and those that perpetrate evil(see Psalm 5:5). Anybody that wants to know God must understand this nature of God and abide with it. You cannot say that you have fellowship with God and you are walking in darkness. Where we read also teaches that if you are a person that delights in evil or rejoices over the downfall of your brother, God’s fellowship is not with you. This is because it is impossible for God to have pleasure in wickedness.

Go into today with a strong commitment to understand the Character of God and to walk in His will.

Prayer: Lord, teach e your ways that I may walk in Your truth. Amen.

1 Corinthians 6:3 (KJV) Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

There was a video that went viral on Facebook. In that video, a very fat cat was trying to catch an angry rat, and instead of the cat pursuing the rat, it was the rat that now turned and was pursuing the cat. The rat pursued the cat to the extent that the cat would cry out each time the rat made contact with it. It was unbelievable.

Many Christians have been defeated in life, not because they do not have what it takes to be overcomers, but because they have failed to realize that they have what it takes. They have forgotten how powerful they really are in Christ, and cower in the face of the smallest situation that confronts them, instead of standing firm on the word of God that cannot fail.

If you are in Christ, you are naturally an overcomer. No demon should be able to stand you because you are seated in heaven far above them and have all authority over them because you are in Christ (see Eph 2:6). But devils are very daring; they will try their luck every now and then and hope you forget who you are and start reacting in fear.

There is nothing that kills boldness like sin consciousness. There is nothing that boosts boldness like righteousness consciousness (see Prov 28:1). I believe one reason the Holy Spirit brings boldness is that He gives us assurance of our righteousness with God.

Go into today determined to walk in the Spirit. This also means you will dominate your heart with the consciousness of the righteousness you have with God through the sacrifice of Christ.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you always walk in your Spiritual authority and power.

Revelation 2:26-29 (KJV) And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. 28 And I will give him the morning star. 29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

When Christ [physically] returns, He will come with great power and glory, and He will come with us His saints (the overcomers). He will come to take over the governments of this earth. And because the rulers will not be willing to peacefully hand over power to Him, He will take it by force.

We all who are his saints will come with Christ in our glorified bodies; bodies just like that of Christ, and we shall rule and reign over the earth for 1000 years.

The city in which you currently live will most likely still be called by its current name when these things happen. The people of the world will not be able to defeat us because we will have superior (glorified) bodies that cannot be hurt. We will have superior intelligence and superior power. The rulers of the earth will have to fall in line or be smashed (see Psa 2).

When the kingdom physically comes to the earth, the wealthiest person on earth will be less than the least in our Kingdom. Our government will be so wealthy that we would be able to afford to pave our streets with gold. And all humankind (and angels) will be under our dominion (see 1 Cor 6:2-3).

Go into today remembering that the Kingdom is coming. We have proof to show that these promises of the Lord are true: the Holy Spirit within us gives us a foretaste of the powers to come and assures us of these things.
Confession: I am a citizen of God's Kingdom. I will rule and reign with Christ. The Holy Spirit controls my life today.

Quickened Together with Christ

Ephesians2:5,6. (KJV) Even when we were dead in sins [God] hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

God loved us when there was nothing in us to love. His love not only found us; He cared enough for us not to leave us in the condition (dead sin) in which He found us. He gave us life and then raised us up out of the mess and gave us a seat with Himself in heaven. “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory” (1 Samuel 2:8).

I want you to notice all of the “together” in the text: “quickened us together,” “raised us up together,” “made us sit together.” God accomplished the work of redemption through His Son. In Jesus, God became a man and took our place. “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23), but God could not die to take our place. How would you kill God, if He could die? How would you drive a spear through God? How could you put nails through Him or hang Him on a cross? The only way God could take our place, our sin, and our sicknesses, etc, was to become a man. This also was part of the divine plan because God knew the work of the cross would have to be substitutional. God could not substitute for man. Man would have to substitute for man. Jesus became sin for us in God’s place. Jesus died and rose again for us in God’s place. Since Jesus had no sin of His own, God could raise Him from the dead. We became identified with the work of Jesus on the cross and in His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension.

I want you to get the picture. When God found us, we were dead. He wanted us to be alive and to sit with Him in His home, heaven. Getting us from the point of death to a seat in heaven with Him took the work of our mediator, Jesus. Since God could raise Jesus from the dead, He could then bring us into heaven to be seated with Him. Jesus could take hold of us. When Jesus was raised from the dead, we were raised up also. When Jesus ascended to heaven, we ascended also. When Jesus was seated in heaven, we were seated there too. Jesus and all believers were made alive together, raised together, and made to sit in heavenly places together. “For in him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28)

Go into today knowing that as a member of His church, you are now seated with Christ in the heavenly places because of the substitutionary work of Jesus on the cross.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live in the consciousness of who and where I am in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:9 (NET) You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to him.

Tony accepted the Lord Jesus in a neighborhood house fellowship. Because the leader of the fellowship sensed that Tony needed to be ministered to for deliverance, he told Tony to wait behind and be ministered to. That day, Tony was delivered of demonic possession and was also baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. His heart was so filled with joy that it was evident to his friends and neighbors that "something has changed about Tony".

Tony had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit but he needed to learn of Christ and become like Christ. This is what is called discipleship. The indwelling Holy Spirit within him changed his appetites and gave him a desire for the word and presence of God.

Even though Tony received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, if he does not continue to abide in Christ and bring forth fruit, he would be as a branch cast out and trampled underfoot of men(John 15:6, Matthew 5:13).

After believing in the Lord Jesus and receiving the Holy Spirit, it is important we grow and walk in the spirit(Character) of Christ because it is only those who have the spirit of Christ that belong to Him.

Go into today remembering that it is not just those that say “Lord, Lord”, but those that do the will of God are those who will enter the kingdom of heaven(see Matthew 7:21). If Jesus is truly your Lord, then you will do His will.

Prayer: Father, help me abide in Christ and be fruitful. Help me live a life that is ruled by Your will, In Jesus name. Amen.

God is Rich in Mercy

Ephesians2:4 (TPT) But God still loved us with such great love. He is so rich in compassion and mercy.
We were the subjects of the first three verses (see Eph.2:1-3) which describe how we were still a mess despite our good intentions and best efforts, “But God, who is so rich in compassion and mercy” came to our rescue. The Greek word here is plusios, and it means “filthy rich.” Pluto, whose name was derived from this word, was the god of wealth in Greek mythology. This is also where we get the English word plutocrat, which is defined as someone who is so rich he has influence over other people. “God, who is rich in compassion and mercy,” uses His wealth to influence us and win us over. God is rich in mercy, which is grace in action. When grace is displayed toward man, it is called mercy. Mercy brings God’s grace to lost man.

This principle is also seen in man. God has given to each of His children the measure of faith. Faith is the means of receiving God’s grace, but it does no good until it is put into action. When faith is put into action, it is called believing. Believing is faith in action. Faith produces the ability within people to receive the grace of God. God’s grace always comes first so our faith has something to receive. Mercy is God reaching out to man, and believing is man reaching out to God.

Maybe now you can begin to get a small picture of the greatness of God’s love to us. Think of what He had to love— nothing! That is why this verse says, “But God still loved us with such great love.” The love of God staggers the imagination. “For God so loved the world that he gave…” (John 3:16). Only God is capable of so much love.

As Christians, God expects that we love others and be merciful and compassionate toward all men. We know that we are believers and that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren (1John 3:14).

Go into today knowing that God's mercy abounds towards you and He is ever merciful and compassionate towards you.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your undeserved mercies upon my life. Help me with grace to show unreserved mercy to all men. Amen

2 Corinthians 9:10 AMP: And [God] Who provides seed for the sower and bread for eating will also provide and multiply your [resources for] sowing and increase the fruits of your righteousness [which manifests itself in active goodness, kindness, and charity]. [Isa. 55:10; Hos. 10:12.]

Kola attended his uncle's baby dedication and in the course of listening to a sermon on thanksgiving, he lost his peace. The highly charismatic preacher ended the sermon with series of altar calls for giving. Kola searched himself but had nothing to give except his tuition fee. His emotions moved between the fear of lacking (as a result of not giving) and the greed of wanting more (as a result of the promised multiple effects of giving).

In the preceding verses to our anchor scripture, Apostle Paul started with saying that giving is a ministry for the saints, then went on to describe the right attitude of heart while giving. The Amplified Translation gives a rendition that easily lends an understanding of what it means to give sparingly (grudgingly) and bountifully (generously). (See 2 Corinthians 9:6 AMP).

As Christians, our giving should be born out of love for God, for his work, the saints, and those whom we draw into the kingdom by reflection of God's love through giving. It shouldn't be born out of need or material insecurity. The moment we fall for this we bring ourselves to a spirit that is not native to us; the spirit of fear (see 2 Timothy 1:7).

The greed for more or covetousness, like fear, has the capacity to bring a believer into bondage. The Bible is filled with examples of victims of greed (covetousness). It is for postures like this that men like Balaam sought to go against God because of personal gain, Ghazi lost his first place, etc. Our giving must be inspired by love and not greed else we will be bowing to mammon in the Lord's name, consequently bringing ourselves into financial bondage.

Go into today knowing that our Lord has provided all that is needed for your livelihood and also given to us what is needed for the harvest of righteousness. We are already in the Lord's pool of abundance, and his grace relieves us from the pressure of performance.

Prayer: LORD, teach my heart. Help me discern between what should be eaten and what should be sown for a harvest of righteousness.

Philippians 3:13 (NET) Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead I am single-minded: Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead

One of the problems Uche had was that he was too obsessed with the past. He had excelled in the knowledge of the Lord in the past and he had done exploits, but he was fixated on the past and didn't realize that he needed to continue to grow daily in the knowledge of the Lord. This was why his faith and power started wanning. But the Lord could restore him when he saw his error.

Every new day is a day that has never existed before in the history of the world. It comes with new possibilities and risks. Scripture says sufficient to the day is the evil thereof. Because of the uniqueness of each day, we need new and unique revelations of the Lord to carry us through each day. His mercies are new every morning.

The manna of yesterday is not meant to carry today. We are expected each day to receive from God our daily bread (Matthew 6:11). Jesus who is the bread from heaven (John 6:51) reveals Himself to us in unique ways that will carry us through each season(day) of our lives.

Go into today remembering to forget the things that are behind and reach out for the things that are ahead.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me always dwell in your presence and grow in fruitfulness. Amen.

Ephesians 2:3 (TPT) The corruption that was in us from birth was expressed through the deeds and desires of our self-life. We lived by whatever natural cravings and thoughts our minds dictated living as rebellious children subject to God’s wrath like everyone else.

Before you were born again, you were controlled by the flesh and the mind. Notice the spirit is left out. Unless the sinner is demon-possessed, he is not controlled by his spirit. He is under the control of the nature of the flesh and the unrenewed mind. This is the predesigned course of this world he is following. A believer who is out of fellowship imitates the unbeliever (Read Ephesians 5).

A believer in this state cannot be led by his spirit or the Holy Spirit within him. Because he is not controlled by his spirit at the moment, he is under the control of his flesh and his mind. He is imitating the unbeliever. Even though he may still go to church, give alms, or act spiritual, his good deeds do not count with God. Sinners go to church, give alms, and act spiritual to impress God into giving them a place in heaven. The believer who is not controlled by the Holy Spirit at any moment in time is deceived and will act just like a worldly unbeliever.

“To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6). When your mind is in line with your spirit, there is peace. When your mind is in line with your flesh, only things of death can be produced from your life. God calls the works resulting from these two conditions gold, silver, and precious stones (spiritual) or wood, hay, and stubble (carnal).

The unbeliever cannot be led by the Spirit because he is spiritually dead— separated from the life of God—“and [are] by nature subject to God’s wrath” The unbeliever needs his nature changed first, before his deeds and bad habits can be truly changed. His problem is not just his outward actions, it is the nature of his heart. The sinner is not a sinner because he sins, he sins because he is a sinner. The believer is not righteous because he does righteous acts, he does righteous acts because he is righteous. This should help us straighten out our witnessing techniques.

Sinners need their nature changed, and Jesus is the only One who can do this. Salvation is found in no other name than Jesus (Acts 4:12). Good works will not make us righteous, but righteousness will produce good works, which are acceptable unto God. (See Eph. 2:8-10.) We need to come right to the point with the sinner as Jesus did with Nicodemus: “Ye must be born again”.

Go into today remembering that to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Prayer: Father, help me to daily live out the nature of God in me.

Acts 9:6 (KJV) And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
There are living proofs we can see in the life of a man that has encountered the Lord. The proofs are not hidden. When Paul encountered Jesus on his way to Damascus, his eyes were opened to the Lordship of Jesus. The first question he asked was "who are thou, Lord?" That was his first meeting with Jesus but he recognized him as Lord.

An encounter means when you are one on one with Jesus either by dream, vision, or open revelations, etc. When a believer encounters Jesus, the level of speed and results that would be a product of the encounter would be evident. A man of God once taught that when you encounter God, it would bring revelation, conviction, faith, action, and results in your life.

It is very important that in our quest and desire to know God, one vital pursuit that should engage our minds is an Encounter with Jesus. It touches our desires and also kills our worldly passions. It is easy to submit to Jesus when there is an Encounter.

In this year, we implore our readers to seek after God for a special encounter with Christ.

Go into today believing God for a life-changing encounter.

Philippians 3:13 (NET) Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead I am single-minded: Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead

Uche observed that his spiritual fervor and fire seemed to be waning. He no longer could pray as long as he used to and he could no longer walk in the spiritual authority he once commanded. Before it became clear to Uche that he had lost his fire, he used to boast about how many hours he could pray in tongues and how he fasted for Long.

Uche wondered what was happening to him. He no longer found the ability to pray the way he used to pray. The word of God now seemed "familiar" and "boring". As he kept inquiring of the Lord about what had gone wrong, the Lord made him realize it was because he got to a point where he considered himself to have attained the knowledge of the Lord. Because he had had several encounters with the Lord in dreams and visions, he started feeling as if he had arrived. Unknown to him, this feeling was a manifestation of pride, and God resists the proud.

From today's Bible verse, we see that the great Apostle Paul didn't consider himself to have attained the knowledge of Christ. He still desired to know Him more. This desire is the secret to never-ending and constant growth.

Go into today remembering that we cannot completely know the Lord while we are in this body of flesh, so the false feeling of accomplishment is a trap of the flesh. When the resurrection comes, then we will know [Him] as we are known (1 Corinthians 13:12).

Prayer: Father, help me continually know you more all the days of my life. Amen.
