Whose Work Are You Doing?

John 15:16 (KJV)  Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

The story was told of an English missionary who left all to follow God’s ordination for his life in one of the African Nations. His effort had produced many churches, schools, and many community development programs. After about twenty years of undying commitment to God by all human judgment, the Lord appeared to him and asked ‘‘when will you start doing what I sent you here to do?’’

God had sent him to Africa to raise men for Him but for many years he did something else. If men were to judge, he would have been judged obedient and successful but God said he had not begun his work.

We saw something similar with Abraham whose obedience was swift when God told him to leave his people and Nation for a land He would show him (Genesis 12:1-4), then, after twenty-five years, God returned and asked that Abraham walk before him and be perfect (Genesis 17:1).

You see, it is possible to have begun in obedience to God but later sway into imperfection and end up doing your own work and not God’s.

Note that material prosperity may not always translate to God’s approval: this means that our judgment of success must be more than earthly results and prosperity. We have to get checkups regularly from the one who called us.

Go into today knowing that you have to go for checkup regularly if you want to walk perfectly before God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me to remain simple and humble to accept your corrections.

Discerning False Doctrines

1 Timothy 6:3-4 (NET) If someone spreads false teachings and does not agree with sound words (that is, those of our Lord Jesus Christ) and with the teaching that accords with godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in controversies and verbal disputes. This gives rise to envy, dissension, slanders, evil suspicions

One of the most dangerous things I hear certain progressive teachers of the word say is that the words and teachings of our Lord Jesus while He walked the earth are old Testament and are not for the church, that only the epistles (written after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus) are valid because the new covenant started after Jesus resurrected.

Even judging that position normally and logically, it does not make much sense. No one gives the testament of a Covenant after it has been ratified, it is always given before it is ratified. No one signs a contract document before writing it, signing is done after the document has been written. Jesus gave His New Testament through His teachings and commandments in the three and a half years of His earthly ministry, before He ratified it by His death on the cross.

In today's Bible verse, we see that false teaching is any teaching that does not agree with the words of our Lord Jesus. Any teacher that uses the excuse of "that was old Testament" to explain away a doctrine of the Lord Jesus is teaching something false. For example, if a teacher tries to convince you that you shouldn't ask God to forgive your sins when the Lord clearly teaches us to repent of our sins, that teacher is nothing but a false teacher. Just like junk foods taste sweeter but are really not healthy, false doctrines might appear sweeter to the flesh, but they are toxic to your new born again spirit.

Go into today remembering that any teacher who tries to explain away the words of our Lord Jesus is a false teacher.

Prayer: Lord, deliver me and cleanse me from the influence of every false teacher. Give me shepherds afters your heart that will feed me with knowledge and understanding (Jer 3:15). Amen.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV) I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

When it was time for Chief Ola to hand over the management of his great company to his children, he didn’t reward them according to their age but according to their wisdom and faithfulness in the assignments he had given them earlier.

The ones who were not faithful hoped that they would get something, but the ones who were faithful knew that they were going to get something. The ones who weren’t faithful dreaded the day their father would call them to give account for their management of his business, but the ones who were faithful longed for the day their father would call them to give account.

Those who have truly been busy serving the Lord with their lives here on earth know in their spirits that their reward is being stored up for them. They know that they will be rewarded eternally because they have spent their lives serving the Lord faithfully, and they know that the one who they are serving is faithful and just (see Heb 6:10, Rev 22:12).

One of the ways to check if you are serving Christ with your life in truth is to check whether or not you long for His appearing. Those who are serving the Lord in truth will long for His appearing because they understand that His appearing will mark the beginning of their indescribable glory and reward.

Go into today remembering that God will judge your every action in life. His judgment is because He wants to reward you for your work here on earth.

Job or Ministry?

Colossians 3:23-24 (KJV)  And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

You probably may have heard people say that ‘‘my job is my ministry, this is where I serve God''. By saying this they mean that whatever their hands find to do which is not evil will be rewarded by God as long as it is done heartily. One of the verses used as back up is today’s Bible text.

It is however sad that although Christians work in almost all the available offices, the kingdom of God is not expressed in such offices. What might the problem be?

Note that your job becomes relevant to God's kingdom agenda only when it affords Him an opportunity in such an office or sphere. If you do a job that refuses God this opportunity and/or hinders you from serving God in the capacity that God has ordained that you serve Him, such a job is a distraction,  and no matter how committed or faithful you are in executing your duty, you will not get any eternal reward from God.

Your job is not your ministry if you are not ministering the realities(nature, power, character) of God to people through it or in it.

Someone may ask, what about Pastors or Ministers whose job is directly related to preaching or ministering the gospel? To answer this, we must understand that for the purpose of this teaching, ministry means bringing God’s kingdom and will to a particular sphere (Matthew 6:10) which could be your workplace. It is possible to be a preacher and yet not be a minister of God. This happens when preaching is only perceived as a job.

Go into today knowing that your job is relevant to God's kingdom (and your assignment in it) to the degree to which it allows God’s will and kingdom to flow.

Pray this way: Lord, help me to serve you acceptably for the rest of my life.

Your Work Will Be Tested

1 Corinthians 3:13-15 (KJV)  Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Caleb visited Jude but couldn’t see him because he was on a retreat. He visited again after several days and still couldn’t speak with Jude because the retreat had not ended. After some time, Caleb met Jude in the Church and asked ‘‘Jude, what were you praying for?’’ Jude put up a smile and said ‘‘I want the mantle of Apostle Paul''. Oh, that’s a great one! Caleb exclaimed.

Shortly after this Caleb and Jude were appointed by their Pastor to oversee cleaning the Church, but Jude became very sad. Why are you sad? Caleb asked. ‘‘Don’t you get it? I want to be an apostle, not a common Church cleaner'' Jude responded.

Just like Jude, many zealous children of God have despised the current assignment God gave them for other works they consider to be more prestigious. In a bid to be celebrated as great servants of God they have created offices for themselves. Others have spent their lives desiring to be greatly used by God while abandoning the everyday assignment committed to them by Him. They do not realize that only those who are faithful in little can be given much, and only those who are faithful in another man's work can be given their own (see Luke 16:10-12).

Apostle Paul explained that what he had done was according to the grace given to him. Neither he nor Apollos chose to be apostles; they simply followed God and became what He ordained them to be.

1 Corinthians 3:5-6 (KJV)  Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

Your hard work will gain eternal relevance when in the spirit of humility and service, it is channeled in the direction of the grace given to you (1 Corinthians 15:10).

Go into today knowing that God will reward you only for the work he has sent you to do. Self-appointed assignments would count for nothing and be burned up on that day.

Prayer: ask the Lord for a humble and obedient heart.

The Washing of the Word

Download Today's Audio☞ http://bit.ly/aud1583

John 17:17 (KJV) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Phillip was excited to attend a reunion party organized for the old students of his university. There he met old friends and even old girlfriends.

You see, Phillip became born again three years after he graduated from university. But when he was on campus, he was a very ungodly person. He had many godless friends and led a reckless immoral life. But now that he was born again, his life was transformed by the power of God's grace.

The time he spent in that party was characterized by many unwholesome conversations that he wasn’t comfortable with. His old friends who were excited to see him started such conversations with him because they did not know that he was now born again.

When he came out of that party, he felt so defiled and unclean. Dirty thoughts filled his mind and he struggled with them.

When he got back home, he picked up his Bible and started reading it. As he continued to read and dwell in the Word, he felt washed and refreshed. He no longer felt unclean on the inside. This was how the Lord cleansed and renewed his soul (Ps 23:3).

We see in Ephesians 5:26 that the way Christ sanctifies His Church is with the washing of water by the word. This is an explanation of John 17:17 above. In John 15:3, Jesus told His disciples that ‘you are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you’.

Go into today remembering that the word of God is the water of the spirit that washes and sanctifies us.

Prayer: Lord, help me abide in your word always.

The Believers Authority 2

Ephesians 1:22 (KJV) And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.

Until Laide truly started believing that she had authority over the devil and darkness, she couldn't walk in this authority even though she had believed. As she started reading and hearing sermons about the spiritual authority of the believer, faith came to her by the hearing of the word, and she started walking in the authority of Christ. Everything we receive in God's kingdom is received by faith.

It is obvious that Jesus has been put “far above” the kingdom of Satan and made to be “the head over the church.” If Jesus is far above Satan’s kingdom and Satan is below His feet, then something has to be in between. That something between Jesus and Satan is the church. Jesus has given us authority over Satan except you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour by faith.

Jesus conquered Satan through the work of the cross and resurrection, and then He gave us the rightful authority to use His name and see the devil run from us. In Mark 16:17 Jesus says, And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. Thank God for the name of Jesus!

Satan hates that name, and all of heaven loves to hear it repeated. Every time the name of Jesus is used, both hell and heaven remember that day. Hell trembles and heaven rejoices. We have been left here in the earth to stand in the place Jesus stood as Christ’s personal representatives (2 Corinth. 5:20) and see people come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior, Healer, and Provider.

There are many today who are suffering from demonic oppression, afflictions, and plagued with infirmities simply because they don’t know and believe the power that is in the name of Jesus and the authority that has been conferred on them as believers. Mark 16:17-18 makes us understand that ‘These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: they will cast out demons in Jesus' name, if they drink anything poisonous, it won't hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed’. Halleluyah!

Go into today asking the Lord to teach you to use your authority and walk in his liberty; bringing many others into this liberty. Jesus has become the head of all things!
Prayer: Father, please help me walk in my authority in Christ. Amen.

Ephesians 1:21(KJV) Far above all principality, and power [authority], and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world [age], but also in that which is to come.
In the above verse, we have one of the Greek words that have been translated “power”—exeusia. This word can be translated as “authority, and Bibles translated from older manuscripts translate the word as authority.” Through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection, we have been given authority over the devil.

An obvious question that arises at this point is, what is the difference between power and authority? God has not invested us with just power but with authority. In the fall, God did not lose any of His power. What was lost was His channel in the earth for the expression of His power. Adam lost his authority in the earth when he yielded to Satan. From Adam until the cross, Satan had unchallenged authority on earth.

When Jesus rose from the dead, He said, “All authority in heaven and in earth has been given unto me” (Matthew 28:18 NET). Jesus gave His authority to the church. You are probably thinking that you would rather have power than authority, but that should not be the case. Jesus says in Luke10:19, Look, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions and on the full force(power) of the enemy, and nothing will hurt you”. Jesus says he gives us authority over Satan’s power.

When a policeman stands on the corner and raises his hand, cars stop because of his authority, not his power. The policeman is not more powerful than cars and trucks. What would he do if they would not stop? The policeman has been given authority over all the power of the cars. The drivers of the cars will not resist his authority because they know that if they do, they would have to face the power which the policeman represents. The power of the local government is channeled through the authority of the policeman. The policeman does not stand on the corner in his own name but in the name of the law. Jesus gave us authority over all the power of the enemy. When we use His name, all hell comes to a halt, not because we are so innately powerful, but because we are invested with the authority of heaven. Satan stops for our authority because he does not want to face the power again. He faced the power one day and lost. God channels the power of heaven through the authority of the believer who knows the rights and privileges that belong in the name of Jesus.

According to Phil.2:9-10, the name of Jesus is higher than any other name that can be mentioned in this age and also that which is to come. The name of Jesus outranks the name of any sickness, disease, problem, world leader, or crisis. We as believers have the right to use that name to cast out devils, speak with new tongues, take up serpents, drink any deadly thing and not be hurt, and lay hands on the sick and see them recover. (See Mark 16:17-18.)

Go into today knowing that God channels all the power of heaven through the authority of the believer who knows the rights and privileges that belong to him and are found in the name of Jesus.

Grace and Peace

Ephesians 1:2(KJV) Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
This is a familiar salutation repeated in most of the New Testament. (See Rom.1:7, 1Cor. 1:3, 2Cor.1:2, Gal.1:3, Phil.1:2, Col.1:2,). You would notice after reading the above references that grace always comes before peace. Before you can have peace in your life, you have to understand the grace of God.

So many people are so wrapped up in their own self efforts that they never have peace. They remain frustrated. They are trying to work to please God. However, the thing about working to please God is you never know when you have done enough or performed well enough to meet His requirements. The devil will tell you “You could have prayed longer. You could have gone to one more church service. God is not pleased with you.” This will always leave you frustrated and without peace.

However, when you understand God's grace; when you understand that God has already done the work and all you need to do is receive His gifts of grace, all the pressure is off, and peace is the result.
2 Peter 1:2 points out that grace and peace are multiplied to us through knowledge of Jesus Christ. Understanding of God’s Word(which leads to a deeper knowledge of God) always increases our capacity to handle more of His blessings. As we increase our capacity, God increases the amount we receive. David said, “my cup runneth over” (Psalm 23:5). God always fills to overflowing, but He only pours out when we have something with which to receive. If you do not have a cup, God is under no obligation to pour. The cup comes through knowledge of God and His Word. As your knowledge increases, your cup increases. Increased capacity brings increased grace and peace.

PRAYER: Ask God that as you study His Word, the Holy Spirit will help you grow in grace, and find peace which passeth all understanding to keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

1 John 2:1-2 (NET)
(My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.) But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One, and He Himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.

Vivian did something she had promised the Lord she would never do again. Because of this she was very sad and started to believe that the Lord has not forgiven her. She believed that the Lord had withdrawn his grace and protection. But she was very wrong.

Like Vivian, many Christians allow depression to deprive them of grace because they refuse to accept the forgiveness of the Lord but continue to think that the Lord is angry with them because of what they did. They do not realize that God knew they would do what they did long before they did it, and He was not surprised that they did, but made arrangements for their atonement.

It is OK to feel remorse about a sin. As a matter of fact, the feeling of guilt associated with sin is a sign that you are spiritually alive and healthy. But just like other good things the Lord has created, the devil will try to exploit that feeling and use it to destroy you.

The way to deal with sin is to repent and forsake it and move on. Jesus is the one who does all the spiritual work, including the cleansing from guilt and every other evil associated with the sin (see 1 John 1:9).

Go into today knowing that Jesus alone is the atoning sacrifice for your sins. Stop trying to atone for your sins by allowing Satan to afflict you with guilt and fear.

Psalm 119:11 (KJV) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

After Chide accepted the Lord Jesus, he struggled with many of his previous bad habits and sins. When he discussed this with his discipler, his discipler would recommend prayer and fasting. Chide observed that the prayer and fasting worked in keeping his flesh at bay, but when the fasting was over, he observed that the flesh would spring back up and seek to control him. His spiritual life was like a seesaw; on fire today and cold tomorrow.

One day he saw his friend reading a book about the kingdom of God and he was drawn to it. He borrowed the book and started reading it. For the first time, Chide came into an understanding of God’s Truth and kingdom. From then, he was now excited to read the Bible, even the old testament now made sense to him. He observed that as he became a person of the Word, his prayers became much more powerful and he was now free from the bondage of sin. He received His freedom through the knwoledge of the Truth.

Jesus told those who believed in Him that it is when they abide in His word that they would know the truth, and the truth will set them free(see John 8:31-34).

I have come to realize that the most effective way to escape the power of sin is through abiding in God’s word. The way God sanctifies us is through His word [which is Truth] (see John 17:17). The word of God is the spiritual water that cleanses and renews the minds of those who are born again ( see Ephesians 5:26).

Go into today determined to be a person that abides in God’s word.
Psalm 119:9(KJV): Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

Ephesians 1:3 (NLT) All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.

Dotun was now saved, and he was glad he had escaped the wrath that was imminent. He started learning that he didn’t only escape the wrath of God, but had come into the blessing of God through his continued faith in Christ Jesus. He wasn’t only going to escape hell, but he was now going to inherit the kingdom of God.

Dotun wanted to understand what it means to inherit the kingdom of God. One of the first things he learned was that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor 15:50). He understood that during the resurrection, we would not resurrect with bodies of flesh, but with glorified spiritual bodies (1 Cor 15:43-44). These physically visible glorified bodies will reveal our true nature as sons of God. But while we are in this body of flesh, we can experience the first fruits of our kingdom life because of the indwelling Holy Spirit (see Romans 8:23). Since flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, Dotun knew that if he was walking in the flesh (Gal 5:19-21), he could not live the kingdom life of victory, glory, and power.

Today, many believers are not fruitful in the kingdom life because they have not understood the kingdom of God. We can learn from the Parable of the sower (see Matt 13:3-8, 18-23) that those who received the word and were fruitful were those who received it and understood it (see Matt 13:23).

Go into today remembering that you have been blessed with all spiritual blessings. Remember that those who walk in the flesh cannot walk in these blessings.

Colossians 3:6 (NKJV) Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience

Dotun’s grandmother bought him a Bible as a Birthday present. Before she gave him the present, she prayed over it and asked the Lord to use it to bring him to salvation. When she gave him the Bible, she made him promise to read it.

When Dotun first read the Bible, he started from the Old Testament but stopped reading it before he got to the New Testament. He particularly liked the story of Nebuchadnezzar and the book of Daniel because as a history student he could confirm that those kingdoms and Kings really existed in history. One thing he observed from reading the Bible as an unbeliever was that the wrath of God was really scary.

So several years later when someone came to preach the gospel to him and told him that by accepting the Lord Jesus he was going to escape the wrath of God, he quickly accepted Christ’s Lordship because he did not want to be part of those who would experience the wrath of God.

One of the reasons the Gospel is good news is because it shows us a way of escape from the wrath that is to come. Humankind is headed for eternal condemnation. The only salvation is in the Lord Jesus.

If you have not accepted the Lord Jesus, today is your day of salvation. Escape the condemnation of the world because ‘He who believes in Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God’. John 3:18 (NKJV)

Pray this prayer: I believe in my heart and confess that Jesus is my Lord. I will now live under His authority and do as he says. Thank you Lord for dying on the cross for me.

Live Worthily of the Calling

Ephesians 4:1-3 (NET) I, therefore, the prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live worthily of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Since the day Colins and Candy got married, they had bitter quarrels and misunderstandings. Colins had this perfect idea of what his ideal wife should be like, but he was disappointed because after marrying Candy, he found that she didn't meet his expectations. Candy, on the other hand, wanted Colins to be a perfect gentleman she could control, but Collins was anything but that. What made matters sadder was that they were both leaders in the church, but they didn't seem to know how to live in peace with each other.
After going for marriage counseling with their pastor, they realized that the root of their problem was pride and a lack of willingness to bear with one another in love. When they both came to terms with the fact that they were proud and needed to humble themselves, they started to have a happy marriage.

One of the ugliest things to see is Christian fellowships or homes in which there are divisions and dissensions. Most of the time, it takes a conscious effort on our part to maintain peace. A believer who is quarrelsome and divisive is not living in a manner worthy of His calling in God.

How do believers live worthily? We do so by making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Many times, in dealing with people, if there would be peace and unity of spirit, we have to be willing to be patient and bear with them in love. This is only possible when we are humble and gentle. A proud person cannot do this.

Go into today remembering that walking in a manner worthy of the Lord enables you to walk in the glorious power and liberty of the Lord. Humility and gentleness are key attributes of those who walk in a manner worthy of the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, help me walk in a manner worthy of my calling in You and please You in all things. Amen.

Interactive Bible Study Manual 4

TOPIC: Does God's Judgment Cause Evil to Happen? Part 1

Introduction
When we read the Old Testament, we see that a number of dreadful things were commanded by God because of the sins of the people. From the flood of Noah to the destruction of the Canaanites, we see a side of God many do not like to talk about because they do not understand how a God of love can be responsible for so much human peril.

There is a common school of thought that says all evil in this world is of the devil, and God never does anything negative. Another school of thought says God in the Old Testament is different from God in the New Testament, that even though God destroyed people because of their sins in the Old Testament, because of the sacrifice of Jesus, God no longer destroys people but showers love on them till they come to see the light. But as we look at the New Testament, we find the book of Revelation, and other portions in the epistles that talk about the wrath of God coming upon the children of disobedience(Ephesians 5:6, Colossians 3:6). We see entire plagues, famines, and perils poured out from heaven upon the earth in the book of Revelation(see Revelation 6), and many believers have decided to behave as if that book does not exist.

This study is to further help us understand the character of God and to see His love in all of His actions.  This is an interactive inductive Bible study, so we are all expected to discuss, contribute, and allow the scriptures to lead us to our definitive inferences.

DISCUSSION
1) God is the judge of the whole earth(not the devil) Genesis 15:4, Genesis 18:25

2) God is a just judge and a loving father (Same verses as above) Ezekiel 22:29-31
3) God's judgment is because of His love. It slows down global decay and destruction (Discuss the principle of gangrene and amputation) Numbers 35:33

4) God is slow to anger(Joel 2:13, Numbers 4:18)

5) Explain the perceived contradiction in Numbers 4:18

6) Christ's death on the cross was God's love and mercy through His judgment (1 John 2:2, Isaiah 53:5). Discuss.

7) The devil needs permission from God before he can afflict the righteous (Job 1:10-12). Because of this principle, there are many things the devil cannot do in the world without permission because of the righteous. Discuss this.

8) Only in Christ is there escape from judgement.1 Thessalonians 1:10, John 3:16-18

Conclusion
God's ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. Many things that God does that we might perceive as evil are actually good if only we could see things from God's perspective. Remember that we are eternal beings and it would be a serious mistake for us to judge things only from a human time-bound perspective.

Dealing with Envy

James 4:2-3 (NIV) You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Tinuke and Adenike were best friends in the university. But after they graduated, it appeared that Tinuke started progressing much faster than Adenike. Tinuke got a very good high paying job, but Adenike didn’t. Tinuke got engaged and married, but Adenike remained single.

Adenike became troubled because it appeared that God no longer answered her prayers. She started asking the Lord why.

The Lord mercifully revealed to her that since they graduated, she could not pray without having Tinuke in mind. She was envious of Tinuke, and her prayers always started from that point of envy and covetousness. She did not know that this envy was greatly hindering her progress and prosperity.

You see, when there is envy or covetousness in the heart of a believer, it pollutes his motives and hinders him from receiving from the Lord because God does not answer His children’s prayers that stream from fleshly motives. God is a good father; He does not reward bad behavior.

When a person truly trusts in God and knows that everything he will ever receive comes from the Lord, such a person will not be envious of his neighbor’s progress.

We can learn from today’s Bible verse that one way to ensure that God does not answer your prayer is praying from a standpoint of envy or covetousness. Envy causes hatred, and those who hate their brothers are considered to be murderers in the kingdom of God (see 1John 3:15).

Go into today asking the Lord to help you purify your motives and pray acceptably.

Prayer: Lord deliver me from every form of envy and pride. Help me to pray acceptable prayers. Amen.

Proverbs 4:20-22 (KJV) “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”

It is very exciting to know that God has made provision for our physical health and wellbeing if we make His Word our priority. In the passage we are considering today, “all their flesh” refers to our whole physical body, “health” also means medicine. So we see here that God has provided medicine for our whole physical body. This is very significant as we go through life because most people will come in contact with some form of illness at some point in their lives. But for the Word of God to be effective as medicine, there’s a direction or prescription for taking it. Let’s consider four of those directions today.

1. Attend to my words or give attention to my words: When you turn to the Bible, you need to give it your total and undivided attention. Try to shut yourself off from other influences or distractions. Remember it is God speaking to you. That is not the time to look at your messages on your phone. You can’t get anything out of the bible if you approach it half-heartedly.

2. Incline your ear: That is an attitude of humility. Bow your ear. It’s an attitude that tells the Lord that you’re willing to be taught. Be humble, be teachable. For you to get the word to work in your life, you must have a desire to be taught.

3. Do not let them depart from your eyes: This refers to focus. Focus on the word of God. Don’t look partly at the bible and partly on other things because they may contradict what the bible is saying. Shut yourself in with what God is saying through the bible. Don’t be distracted. Don’t let any other influence turn you away from what God is saying.

4. Keep them in the midst of your heart: The very essence of all these is to get the word of God into your heart, the very center of human personality.

Follow these directions the way you would adhere to a doctor’s prescription and the word will be life and health to your whole physical body.

1 Timothy 5:8 (NET)  But if someone does not provide for his own, especially his own family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

One of the reasons Biola hated her father so much was because of how much they suffered when she was a child, and yet she knew her father had money but refused to provide for them. He would rather spend his money on drinking and strange women. Her mother was a petty trader who couldn't provide enough to take care of them, so they had to go live with relatives who maltreated them. It took the grace of God at work in Biola's heart to make her able to forgive her father when he was now old, withered and needed the help of the same people he had abandoned.

One of the strongest signs that a person has been born of God is manifested in his ability to love (see 1 John 4:7). A person truly born of God has the divine nature that makes him able to love even his enemies. For such a person, loving his family, friends, and neighbors is second nature.

The way love works, it is manifested more strongly with those with whom you have the closest proximity or dealings. A person who loves would love his Christian brethren, family members, neighbors, and even enemies (enemies usually have a certain level of proximity that strangers don't have), and strangers.

But when you see someone who is supposed to be born of God that refuses to provide for his household (which means he doesn't love them), it either means he was never born of God or he has denied the faith. When a person denies the faith, it is manifested in the cessation of love in his heart.

It is also important that believers work with their hands so that they are able to provide for their households and the people who depend on them-- this is an attribute of love. In the kingdom of God, we do not have an entitlement mentality (which breeds laziness), we believe that we are eternally blessed, so we allow this blessing to find expression in the work we do by being diligent and faithful.

Go into today remembering that love in your heart is the greatest proof that you have been born of God. 1 John 3:18-19 (NET) Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth. And by this we will know that we are of the truth and will convince our conscience in his presence.

Prayer: Lord, give me a heart that truly loves. Bless the works of my hands and help me able to provide for those who depend on me. Amen.

Isaiah 53:5 (NET) He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed.

Mrs. Edwin did not know that the reason she could not conceive was because she kept on believing the lie that she was to pay for her past sins. She didn’t realize that if she was able to pay for her sins, Christ would not have to die.

The real problem was that even though God had already forgiven her, she had not yet received His forgiveness and was still living under the cloud of guilt. She cried to the Lord to have mercy on her and let her have her own children. God opened her eyes to see that she needed to accept His forgiveness and forgive her mother-in-law and everyone else who she had been keeping malice with. When she did this, she conceived.

When a believer refuses to accept the forgiveness of God, it would be very difficult for that believer to forgive others. And the sin of unforgiveness is very spiritually toxic.

Many have been afflicted because they have refused to receive the forgiveness of God, even though He has already forgiven them. It is by faith that we receive the forgiveness of God.

The reason why the word of God says God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins (1 John 1:9) is because refusing to forgive us our sins would be unjust since Christ Jesus has already paid for them.

Go into today remembering that it is for Christ’s sake that God forgave you (Eph 4:32). Even though you feel like you don’t deserve God’s forgiveness, be humble enough to receive it freely and move on in the liberty of the Spirit.

Prayer: Thank the Lord for forgiving your iniquities and healing your diseases( Psalm 103:1-3)

Isaiah 53:5 (NET) He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed.

Mrs. Edwin was convinced that the reason she had not been able to conceive was because of her past sins. According to her, God was allowing her to suffer for the things she had done in the past. Even though she was now in Christ, she still believed that she was to pay for her sins.

I have met believers who believe that the reason for certain situations they go through is because of a sin they have committed. I have realized that many believers do not know the danger of such thinking. They do not know that if they were to really pay for their sins, death (and not just suffering) would be the result because the wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23).

If God forgave our sins because of the sacrifice of Jesus, it means we are not the ones to pay for our sins. Jesus has already paid for them on the cross. But if we believe that we are still to pay a small price for our sins, the devil is more than happy to take advantage of this ignorance and afflict us. Many believers have been afflicted because of this wrong mindset. But those who take advantage of the sacrifice (the blood) of Jesus would always overcome the devil (see Rev 12:11).

It is dangerous for a believer to continue in any known sin because this damages his good conscience and produces spiritual death because of faith shipwreck (Rom 8:13, 1 Tim 1:19), but if a believer sins and sincerely repents and renounces his sins, God is faithful and just to forgive him and cleanse him from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). God is faithful and just to do this because Jesus has already paid the price for it.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for paying the price for my sins.

Colossians 1:13 (ISV) God has rescued us from the power of darkness and has brought us into the kingdom of the Son whom he loves

A kingdom is said to be the domain of a king, with a unique language, principles, culture, basically, a way of life that governs the people in that domain.

When a person is born again (Read John 3:3,5) he is translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of Christ and he now has to unlearn the ways of the former kingdom and learn the ways of his new kingdom. This can only take place by the constant renewal of your mind through the word of God.

To function properly and manifest the ways and culture of this kingdom, such a person must operate by the manual (God's word) and live by the Spirit consistently on a daily basis -- being led by the Holy Spirit (see Ephesians 4:3). The Spirit breathes upon the word and grants understanding and grace to enable us to live by the dictates of the word. 2 Peter 3:18 says, But grow in spiritual strength (Grace) and become better acquainted with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, while  2 Corinthians 3:18b (NLT) says  ...and as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him.

Go into today remembering that spending time with the word and fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit is indispensable if we must grow and manifest the God-life we have received.

Prayer: Lord. increase my hunger for the word and intimacy and fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

Don’t Deceive Yourself

James 1:22 (KJV)
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

When Linda started attending church services, she was very lucky to be attending a church assembly where the sincere word of God was preached and taught. Because of this, she understood that the way she was living her life was contrary to the will of God, but she continued to live that way and console herself with words like 'no one is perfect, we are all saved by grace and not our works'. She told herself words like these while she continued to live like an unbeliever.

She didn't know that it was only herself she was deceiving and not God. She assumed she had a relationship with God, but did not know that she was still an unbeliever. Believers are known by their fruits (character) and not by their confessions alone (see Matt 7:16).

It was when she got very sick, was about to die and had an out-of-body experience that she realized she was only deceiving herself all these years. She saw that she was going straight to hell, but her mother’s intercession brought her back.

One of the worst forms of deceit is self-deceit. This happens when a person has come to sincerely believe a lie. This is bound to happen to those who hear the word of God but continue in their own ways that are contrary to the will of God revealed by His word. Like Linda, they would only end up deceiving themselves, thinking they are near to God while they are very far from Him. The devil who is the master deceiver loves this form of self-deceit and can even orchestrate events to help facilitate it.

Go into today remembering that God is not mocked and His standard remains unchanged; let everyone who names the name of God depart from iniquity (see Galatians 6:7, 2 Timothy 2:19).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me to be a doer of your word and not a hearer only. Deliver me from all forms of self-deceit, in Jesus' name. Amen.

The Word of God

Click Here to Download the Audio Version ☞ www.bit.ly/aud2211
Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piecing even to the division of the soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

After receiving Jesus as his Lord, Jay was taught about how the Bible is the word of God and God’s word never fails. He learned to search out portions of the Bible that addressed his needs and how to recite those portions until his needs are solved, but to his surprise, this didn't work. One day, in frustration he exclaimed ‘‘the Bible can’t possibly be the word of God! I know that God is Almighty, and I also know that God’s words cannot fail. If these words are His words, why are they not working for me?’’

Many today have found themselves in situations where it didn't appear that their use of the word worked for them. They’ve confessed verses upon verses of scripture, but no result.

To be free from such confusion, you have to know that the word of God is living. Whenever you separate the word from the spirit and life, what is left is literature. Every child of God must, therefore, learn how to use the written word to connect with the Spirit of faith that inspired it. Before a word in scripture can profit you, it must go beyond mere words and letters. It must connect you with the spirit of the word  (John 6:63).

The word is sealed, and unless it is unsealed you won’t get much profit from it. Unless the word is revealed to you, it is not yours, and it may yield no result for you. "…but those things which are revealed belong unto us…’’ Deut. 29:29.  Isaiah 29:11-12 (KJV) reads, ‘‘And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: and the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.’’

The Holy Spirit gives life to the word. He is the one who reveals (unseals) it. It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that written scriptures become the word of God [which cannot fail].

Go into today knowing that situations do not respond to the written word without the Spirit of the word. Situations respond to the word of God which is empowered by the Spirit of faith.

Pray the prayer of David, ‘’ open thou my eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of thy [word]'' (Psalms 119:18).

Ephesians 3:16-19 (KJV) That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

After Gbemi accepted the Lord Jesus, she submitted to discipleship and was connected to Mrs. Anderson by the church's evangelism department. As Mrs. Anderson started to disciple Gbemi and teach her the way of the Lord, she observed that there were so many things Gbemi did not understand, and it appeared as if she could not understand them. Gbemi could not understand why she was to love her enemies, she could not understand God's love for her even though she believed it.

Because Mrs. Anderson had experience in discipling people, she knew that what Gbemi needed the most was prayers. She would spend quality time each day praying for Gbemi, and her major prayer was that the Lord would strengthen her with might in the inner man. Mrs. Anderson understood that strength in the inner man would give Gbemi the ability and capacity for greater faith so that she would be able to be filled with the presence of God in the measure that can transform her and help her understand the kingdom of God.

We all have measures of the indwelling Holy Spirit. The day you accepted the Lord Jesus, you received a measure. The day you got baptized in the Holy Ghost, you received a higher measure. The more the word of Christ dwell in you richly, the more your measure increases (see Colossians 3:16, Ephesians 5:18-20).

As the Lord strengthens you by His Spirit with might in your inner man, this increases your capacity for faith, and thus your capacity to be filled with the fullness of God. It takes spiritual strength to host higher dimensions of the presence, glory, and power of God. Notice that in today's Bible verses, the result of might in the inner man is that Christ dwells in our hearts richly, and the product of this is the ability to comprehend the dimensions of the love of Christ. One of the easily discernible signs that your spiritual strength is increasing is that your level of spiritual understanding would also be increasing. The commandments of the Lord would now be easy for you to obey and no more seem grievous (see 1 John 5:3).

Go into today praying with today's Bible verses. Ask the Lord to strengthen you with might in the inner man by His Spirit so that your capacity to manifest the realities and power of the divine life would be upgraded. Use this time to pray for those who you disciple too.

Confession: I am strengthened by the Holy Spirit with might in my inner man. My capacity to express the glory of God is increasing. Hallelujah!

John 8:31-32 (NKJV) Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

When David visited Chide and shared the message of the gospel with him, for the first time in his life, Chide understood it. He was so touched that he began to cry when he realized the sacrifice Jesus made in order to save him. He accepted Christ as his Lord and savior that day.

But sadly, Chide did not continue in the word of God because he was not committed to any Christian fellowship where he would hear the word of God and grow. He attended a church where there was very little teaching of the word.

Even though Chide now believed in the Lord Jesus, he was not yet free. He was still a slave to sin and to demonic limitations. The reason he was not yet free was that he was not yet a disciple indeed.

The way people become disciples of Jesus is by applying themselves to the word of God and growing thereby.

The Lord Jesus commanded His apostles to go into the world, preach, and make disciples of all nations (Matt 29:19). People who believe are to be discipled. When people believe in the Lord Jesus, it is important that they are discipled. This is the way chains and yokes of sin are broken forever.

Go into today knowing that after believing in the Lord Jesus, you must abide in His word and let it change the way you think (Rom 12:2). This is the only way to receive and maintain true spiritual liberty.

Be Welled Balanced, Be Vigilant

1 Peter 5:7 (AMP) Be well balanced [temperate, sober of mind], be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that the enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.

An adversary is an opponent, one seeking to defeat you in a cause. We have an adversary in the devil who has had a whole lot of experience in deceit and seduction. He is always poised to subvert men from God’s will.

It is particularly easy to slack in vigilance when faced with a crisis. It is why people, when angry, tend to say and act in ways that they would later regret. Words they would dare not utter they speak, things they would dare not do, they do. This is not limited to times of anger, but also in times of great emotional upheaval, people tend to act more from emotions that from good reasoning.

God is reminding us today to take heed and be vigilant. Don’t relax your grip on God’s word and on your faith. Be well balanced. Keep your emotions in check. Don’t join the bandwagon, don’t act or speak flippantly. Don’t cast off restraint. Apostle James had very useful instructions to this end. “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” (James 1:19).

This is the time to meditate much more on the word of God, to fill your mind with godly messages and faith-filled words. This is the time to stand strong in the faith. Remember that faith only exists in the presence of God’s word. Romans 10:17 says that ‘faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God’. Build yourself in your most holy faith praying in the Holy Ghost.

Here is how the Message Bible puts it, “Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.” (1 Peter 5:8-11).

Pray like this: Thank you Father for your word is true. I am kept and preserved by your word. My heart is fixed on you and lips kept from guile. Amen.

Isaiah 10:27 (NIV) In that day their burden will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you have grown so fat.

As Laide started applying her heart to the word of God and allowing it to transform her by the renewing of her mind, she observed that she started knowing the Lord and was now able to discern His will(see Rom 12:2). She also observed that because of this, she was now too big for the chains that held her bound in the past. The yokes in her life were now broken because she had grown spiritually too fat for them. This spiritual fatness came because she had been feasting on the word of God (she continued in His word).

Jesus told those who believed in Him that if they continued in His word, they would be His disciples indeed, and then they would know the truth, and the truth will set them free (see John 8:31-32).

Those who continue in His word are those who are truly the Lord’s disciples, and they are the ones who can know Him who is the Truth (see John 14:6, 1 John 5:6). This knowledge brings spiritual liberty. The Truth is a reality that is only encountered in [the knowledge of] Christ. This is eternal life; it is the reality that makes all other things but shadows in the light of His presence.

Go into today remembering that abiding in His word and letting it change the way you think is the way to know Him and walk in spiritual liberty.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to expose you to more resources that will help you abide in His word and grow in the knowledge of The Truth.
The more of God's truth(word) you know, the more impossible it will be for you to be bound.
