BEN- HADAD RETURNED PT 2

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

1 Kings 20:20

And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thy self, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

KJV

In our text a prophet warns Ahab that the Syrian king will return, therefore he should be ready. As Christians, it is important to understand that as long as we are still in this realm, the battle is still on. As soldiers of the cross, we advance from victory to victory, meaning, from battle to battle. Whenever we overcome the devil in one area, he goes to reinforce for a return battle (see Luke 4:13 (KJV)). The devil never gives up on a Christian until the final battle is won, i.e. till the Christian makes heaven. We too shouldn’t behave as if the war is over. Ben-Hadad will return. We must put on the whole armor of God and be ready for battle at all times not in fear but leading our lives doing all what God has called us to do, rejoicing as we see a new challenge to overcome because we are more than conquerors(Ephesians 6:11). God grants His people victory. The lesson here is; the devil is cunning, we should not be ignorant of his devices. 2 Cor. 2:11. It is important that we understand the will of God in warfare. God’s will is that we be prepared always by walking constantly in His will for us.

When it is said that we are in warfare, it is an essential knowledge for every Christian to come to terms with. Not for us to go about with a tense warfare mentality (that gladdens Satan and weakens our spirit) but for us to know that when things don’t go our way in life, it is because we are in warfare and therefore we must win because winning is in our DNA; that is what God has equipped us for.

The good thing is that we are always fighting from the victory side, hallelujah!!!

Go into today knowing that you are an overcomer because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. The devil does not have the capacity to stop you because you carry God inside you.

Prayer: Thank you heavenly father for saving me. I pray you help me go around with a victory mentality and never again with a defeat mentality. In Jesus name. Amen

SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT Part 3

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 5:14

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

KJV

Today we shall be continuing on the topic spiritual enlightenment. You will remember we identified it as a teaching for the spiritually mature. One of the attributes of spiritual maturity is the ability to distinguish right from wrong; their senses have been trained to discern what is spiritually accurate, what error is and what is out rightly dangerous for their spirits (see Heb 5:14).

A farmer’s wealthy brother who didn’t like the way he was suffering (carrying things for kilometers everyday) bought him a truck and prepared the papers in his name. He sent a messenger with the truck to the farmer but he didn’t meet the farmer home, so the messenger dropped a note with the key and car papers, parked the car in the woods near the house and left. Marcus the farmer arrived and saw the note, saw the papers, brought out the key, but wondered what they were all for because he couldn’t read. He never knew he now owned a brand new truck. Marcus never used the truck until about a year later when his brother came visiting.

Spiritual enlightenment gives us a living knowledge of the things we have in Christ Jesus and how we can access and use them. If you don’t know the key you have in your hand is one to a car already purchased for you, you may never drive that car.

You need to know that you now have unlimited power in Christ as long as you are born again. The word of God in the bible teaches us some basic principles that will help us effectively utilize this power and grace, so you need to give quality time for the study of the word.

Go into today knowing that you have access to  all power in heaven and on earth because you have unrestricted access to Christ Jesus by His blood.

Prayer: thank you heavenly father for the love with which you’ve loved me. I pray you teach me your ways that I may walk in your truth which is reality. In Jesus name. Amen

THINK ABOUT JESUS ALWAYS

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 3:1-2

And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God and* are partners with those called to heaven, think carefully about this Jesus whom we declare to be God's messenger* and High Priest. 2 For he was faithful to God, who appointed him, just as Moses served faithfully when he was entrusted with God's entire* house.

NLT

Jesus is our perfect example and he continues to be our example for all times. We see that even though Christ Jesus was God, he did not consider becoming flesh and living in the human form something to be despised. Jesus not only lived humbly here on earth but he was completely faithful in all that was assigned to him.

If Jesus was faithful, we also should be faithful because God’s plan is that every glory that Jesus now has, we will have in the fullness of time.

There is no situation that you can go through that Jesus cannot help you in. Do not let the devil deceive you into thinking that your situation is so peculiar that a little unfaithfulness should suffice. Think about Jesus, think about God’s love, think about His faithfulness and loving kindness and let the lord’s love control the way you think and how you react to live. Let there be a God consciousness in your heart at all times, this is the surest way to stay righteous and above sin. Let the thoughts of Jesus permeate your being and do not let your heart be troubled. God cares for you and He will not let you be put to shame.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I know I don’t always do what is right or always please you, but I ask my father that you deliver me from everything that hinders me in my walk with you. I pray you totally fill me, in Jesus name. Amen

THE NEW COVENANT

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 8:13

By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

NIV

When Christianity began, it was led by the apostles who were all Jews, Christianity almost looked like an extension of Judaism or at least an upgrade of Judaism. With time God made it very clear that Christianity is not an extension of Judaism; that it is based on the new covenant with Christ sealed by his precious blood and not the old covenant that was sealed by circumcision; the old covenant that according to our text is fading away and will soon disappear.

Christians are not to go about thinking they are to be made perfect by the laws of Moses-the old testament laws (see Gal 3:3-6 ), when you do this as a Christian, you are walking in error and under the influence of witchcraft(see Gal 3:1). Yes, witchcraft because when you bring yourself under the old law, you are bringing yourself under fear, the fear that if you don’t keep all those laws written out, you will go to hell fire; so your obedience is inspired by fear, and that is how witchcraft works. Our walk with God is because of His love that He has shed abroad in our hearts. This love and grace is administered by the Holy Ghost.

One of the reasons this is a teaching for the mature is because when one walks in this way (walking in the flesh with laws), he limits the work of grace in His life and he cannot walk in the power of the age to come.

When we submit ourselves totally to the kingdom of Christ and let our lives produce the fruit of the spirit, we will see that we will always do better than the law could ever produce(see Gal 5:23b).

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for this day. I thank you for your love for me. I pray you help me walk in the spirit and not under the law, in Jesus name. Amen

GOD’S GRACE TOWARDS YOU

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Rom 5:1-2

Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory.

NLT

The returning fresh year students could not meet up with the registration deadline because they couldn’t pay for great damages they caused to the expensive school facilities when a party went wild and turned into a fight between frat groups. They were going to lose their admission into the prestigious college if they failed to pay for the damages. After a while, the college president gave all the students a two weeks period of grace, anyone who registered within the period would not have to pay a dime because Cobi Brain, the son of the city billionaire had written off the bill, many students didn’t know this. Many students were saved from imminent expulsion because they believed the report and went to be registered. Unfortunately, there were some who didn’t register during the period of grace.

This short story may illustrate how we have received grace and can now access God’s presence not because of our works but because of what Jesus has done for us; He paid a debt that we could never pay; he paid the debt for sin.

Just as the students who were registered will now have to behave themselves in accordance with the rules of the university, we are expected to walk in a manner that is worthy of our calling(see Ephesians 4:1) as children of God.

Go into today knowing that Jesus is the one who grants you access into the kingdom of God; you are not the one who does this and your works can not do this for you. You can now access the throne of God to get help and grace for your time of need.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father. I thank you for your word today. I pray you give me grace that I may walk worthy of the calling to which I have been called in you. I thank you lord for granting me grace. In Jesus name. Amen

THE SERET PLACE: A PLACE OF UNDERSTANDING

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Mark 7:17-19

After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18 "Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? 1

NIV

We see that Jesus taught the people using parables most of the time; as a result they could not understand most of what he was saying.

This is the case for many Christians today; we go to church and we read our bibles but we have no real understanding of what we read or hear let alone how to apply them to our personal lives, and as a result we live in ignorance and bondage.

if u read the earlier verses of this passage, you'll see that when Jesus told the people this very parable, they were all lacking understanding; including the disciples. But the only reason the disciples got a better understanding was because they followed him out of the crowd, they were curious enough to ask further and so they understood better.

This applies to us as well; until we are ready to follow Jesus out of the crowd (churches or religiously bible reading) we will never truly understand what the word means or how much it affects our life.

Go into today with a desire to enter the secret place and find understanding. There is protecting and everything you need in the secret place (see Psalm 91)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly father, I thank you for this day. I pray you give me grace to dwell in your secret place at all times. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

THE GOODNESS OF GOD’S WORD AND THE POWER OF THE AGE TO COME

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 6:5-6

who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come— 6

NLT

We have started considering some of the teachings for the mature; by this I mean teachings about things that only the mature can experience.

We have considered spiritual enlightenment. Today we shall be looking at the goodness of God’s word; which is also related to the powers of the age to come. You will discover that everything that we receive from God is through His word there comes a time in the life of a Christian when the word of God becomes tangible and real to him. He knows he has all the word says he has, etc. This is the time when you experience the reality of God’s word- the goodness of God’s word.

When we talk about the power of the age to come we are talking about powers we will walk in when our bodies have been redeemed but we who have the holy spirit get to experience a foretaste of this (See Rom 8:23). These are indescribable powers doing things that human beings cannot naturally do. God made the earth (even of irrational creatures) to respond to humans. This stopped happening because of the fall of man; humans can no longer speak to a mountain to be removed and be cast into the sea because we fell short of the glory of God. We can no longer speak to nature because we have fallen short of the glory of God. When Jesus walked the earth, He showed us some of this power by walking on water, healing the sick and speaking to a tree which responded to his command etc.

When Jesus said “if you have faith, you can say to this mountain, be thou removed and be cast into the sea”. He was referring to the powers of the age to come that can only be activated by faith which is activated by the word of God (see Rom 10:17).

Go into today knowing that it is God’s will for you to operate in the power of the age to come.

To be continued…

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for this day I ask dear lord that you help me walk into all your will for my life. Thank you heavenly father for hearing me, In Jesus name I pray. Amen

BUILD IN LAYERS

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

2 Peter 1:5-8

5b “make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

(TNIV)

Many Christians have knowledge of Christ, but this knowledge is not productive in their lives because there are no virtues to support them. The presence of virtues in our lives is what determines the extent of effectiveness and productivity the knowledge of Christ will bring to us.

Our relationship with God is designed to grow. We are in a building process. We should not have to start from scratch every day. This requires consistency to the process and loyalty to God.

It helps to consider your life with God as a wall that is being built. Good materials, the right tools, and sound construction principles are required, if your wall is to stand.

I love the way Peter states it: “Add to…”

He is saying that if we have faith but stop there, we will fail. If we add goodness and knowledge but leave out self-control, our wall will fall. Get the concept?

Think layers. Keep “adding to.”

Here are few challenging questions for you to consider and answer if you like: Is your relationship with God stronger today than it was last year at this time? How about last week? Which of the 8 elements listed above may you be lacking? How may you add that element(s)? What layer do you plan to “add” today? How will you do that?

Verse 8 explains that, if we layer these items in our lives, we will be effective and productive. Now read verse 9: “But if any of you do not have them, you are nearsighted and blind, and you have forgotten that you have been cleansed from your past sins.”

That explains why so many of us struggle – we are making no spiritual progress because there is no conscious adding to our virtues.

Knowledge of Christ with no virtues (good works) leads to unproductivity!

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, than you for this glorious day you have made. I pray you give me grace to daily add to my spiritual stature, in Jesus mighty name I pray Amen. Amen.

SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT Part 2

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 6:4

4 For it is impossible [to restore and bring again to repentance] those who have been once for all enlightened, who have consciously tasted the heavenly gift and have become sharers of the Holy Spirit,

AMP

Only those who are spiritually enlightened can consciously walk in the powers of the world to come as seen in Hebrews 6:5. There are certain manifestations of these powers; one for example is when Jesus walked on water, another is when Philip teleported (disappeared and appeared where he was going). These are things we will do naturally in the age to come: when we walk the earth with our bodies redeemed bodies; manifesting our true nature as God’s sons (See Rom 8:23-AMP Ver.)

The world and its customs are fundamentally opposed to the customs of the kingdom of God. God’s plan is that all His children work in great power and wisdom, but the reason why this does not always happen is because they do not all have spiritual enlightenment. When God calls a man and choses Him, He changes the way the man thinks because the way the fallen man was born to think is contrary and anti-productive in God’s Kingdom. When Jesus first sent his disciples to preach, He insisted they did not take any basic thing required for their survival; they were not even allowed to go with their money (see Mat 10:7-10). The reason He did this was because He was establishing in them the foundation of complete trust in God. You will see that He later told them to go with their belongings after they successfully went the first time with nothing (see Luke 22:35-36).

The once and for all enlightenment frees you once and for all from the thought pattern you were born into that limits the work of the Holy one in your life. For example, in the world, the way success and greatness is rated is almost always different from the way God rates it. God for instance rates a man who can control himself to be greater than a man who conquers a city (see proverbs 16:32). This shows that God gives personal character and integrity in a man more consideration than that man’s ability to do things with discipline and diligence; discipline and diligence are required to do both (conquer a city and have integrity).

A man who still rates success and greatness using the world’s template cannot go far in the kingdom of God; he is still not yet spiritually enlightened. There is a limit to the degree of power He can see in His life because his heart still has strong hold hindering the flow of God’s grace and blessings.

God’s power is already available for you; knowledge of His ways will help you connect to it. God says the meek will He teach His ways (Psa 25:9). Meekness in this context means total submission to the authority and lordship of the lord God.

To be continued…

Prayer: heavenly father, hallowed be thy name. Help me to have the right mind set from this day forth, in Jesus name. Amen.

SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT

 image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 6:4

4 For it is impossible [to restore and bring again to repentance] those who have been once for all enlightened, who have consciously tasted the heavenly gift and have become sharers of the Holy Spirit,

AMP

We have spent previous days trying to explain the foundational teachings about Christ. I have noticed that many Christians these days are particularly unlearned about the resurrection of the dead; the redemption of our bodies and the consequences. They do not understand that it is a core teaching of Christianity, and it is an attribute of the hope of our calling. Others include instructions on baptisms and the laying on of hands.

Today, we shall be taking an introduction into the further teachings for the mature since maturity is the Lord’s desire for every Christian.

We see an outline of the fundamental teachings of the faith in Hebrews 1-3. In verse 4, we find that some of the mature topics are mentioned; the first of which is spiritual enlightenment.

What it means to be once and for all enlightened is to come to a relational knowledge; an existential knowledge (as opposed to a philosophical and ideological knowledge) of the Christ; you are no longer to be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine when you get to this stage. By virtue of your knowledge of Christ, you can now discern what is spiritually accurate ( see Heb 5:14). You are not the type that would still run to and fro when the next sister Linda video is released or the next prophesy is uttered in Lagos. You have a working knowledge of the agenda of God and so even though you do not see something directly in the bible, you can discern whether it is good or bad. Remember all knowledge is either good, benign or toxic to the heart of man.

To be continued…

Prayer: Heavenly father, I thank you for giving me the possibility of spiritual maturity and a conscious walking of your power in my life. Help me to grow dear lord, in Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen

BENHADAD RETURNED part 1

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

1 Kings 20:32

So they put on burlap and ropes, and they went to the king of Israel and begged, "Your servant Ben-hadad says, 'Please let me live!'" The king of Israel responded, "Is he still alive? He is my brother!"

NLT

Further study: 1 Kings 20: 1-43

Ben-hadad came initially violently but could not win the war against Israel, so he came as a friend, and eventually won. When the devil attacks violently and loses, he comes as an ally. If we take a look at history, we can see the truth in this revelation. All the Apostles were martyred except John the beloved. The early church faced great attack from the devil through Nero, the then emperor of Rome but yet the church was still growing sporadically. The devil tried to destroy the church forcefully but failed. In the early 4th century, the devil changed his strategy by befriending the church after the conversion of Constantine, the emperor of Rome at the time. He became the sole spiritual head of the church, the simplicity in Christianity was replaced by complex rituals borrowed from paganism and the church lost her power, a loss that she has not yet fully recovered from.

It is important we remain sober and vigilant, because our adversary the devil is like a roaring lion seeking whom to devour. (see 1st Peter 5:8). As Christians, we should always put on the whole armor of God, to the intent that in the final analysis, we will defeat the enemy and still be standing. (see Ephesians 6:13-18.)

Always remember you are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ and He that is in you is greater than the devil.

Prayer: Dear lord, I pray you keep me in your fold all my life. I ask that I will never deviate from your will and purposes in Jesus name. Amen

ETERNAL JUDGMENT

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Eccl 12:14

For God will bring every deed into judgment,

including every hidden thing,

whether it is good or evil.

NIV

For the past few days, we have discussed on the first five elementary teachings about Christ (see Heb 6:1-2). These are teachings that all Christians are to be grounded in as they are foundational teachings of the faith. Today we shall be looking at the sixth topic in this series: eternal judgment.

The word eternal does not just mean the life after death but an existence that is beyond the scope of human life, eternal also refers to the times before you were formed in the womb, times you live on the earth and the times after you leave this world.

God and His sons are the only ones with eternal life; they are the only ones that can influence eternal decisions and occurrences. The teaching on eternal Judgment also introduces to us that God judges thoroughly; He knows people’s intentions and the choices they would make. Because we are free moral beings, God does not try to influence our decisions, He only helps us make good decisions we will make, based on the proclivities of our hearts. Because He is eternal, He knows our choices and because the laborers are few (see Matt 9:37), He channels His resources to those who will utilize it. Remember that God is essentially just.

When humans die, their souls live on; we never really absolutely die because we are spirit beings. Our scripture reveals that God will bring into judgment the acts of all humans, including every secret thing.

The teaching on eternal judgment reveals that God is judge and He will judge everyone, no one can escape this. People may escape human justice but no one will be able to escape eternal justice.

Go into today remembering that God judges justly and righteously. He is the one who brings order into the universe and He will bring order into everything that involves you.

Prayer: thank you heavenly father because I have eternal life. Thank you lord because I have been made a recipient of your great love. I pray dear lord that I will walk constantly knowing that you bring order into my world. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD Part 2

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

1 Cor 15:19

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

KJV

This teaching on the resurrection of the dead also gives Christians a hope of a coming kingdom here on the earth and here after. This is when our lord will come back with His saints to take over the governments and kingdoms of this world. The scriptures reveal that he will rule and reign for 1000 years and we will reign with Him (see Rev 20:4,6).

The saints who will reign with Him are those who have been redeemed from the body of sin and given a glorious body of resurrection. The kingdoms of this world will be taken over by force. It clearly will not be a peaceful hand over. Christ our lord will take over the kingdoms of this world by force. He will rule with an iron scepter (see Rev 2: 26-27)

Those of us who will rule and reign with Christ will be like him. We will all have superior bodies. These bodies will manifest our true nature as sons of God (see rom 8:23).

God did not just give us these promises but He has given the Holy Spirit as a guarantee; He confirms these realities and gives us a foretaste of the powers to come.

Seeing that we have a coming kingdom, dominion and glory that will make the best of this current world seem like outer darkness, let us make sure we stay accurate before God; doing all that he has measured out for us to do because He will reward the faithful by giving them territories to rule based on their work now on earth (see Luke 19:17). Here we will indeed see the meek (those who have submitted themselves totally to the lord’s government; doing His will), inherit the earth (see Matt 5:5)

Dear heavenly father, I thank you that I don’t just have hope in this world but also in the world to come. I pray you keep me in your kingdom by your mighty power. In Jesus name. Amen

WALKING WITH GOD

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Gen 5:24

Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

NIV

Further Study: John 4:23-24, Gen 6:9-10

Walking with God also means having a close relationship with God.

The three first people recorded in the bible to have walked with God were Enoch, Noah and Abraham.

Not much detail was reported about Enoch’s life but one very clear thing about Enoch was that he was not an ordinary man; in fact he did not die ordinarily but was taken because of his close walk with God. You cannot walk with God and be ordinary. When you walk with God, you will see His power and glory in your life, things that people fear will not come near you because you are now God’s direct responsibility.

One hallmark about Noah and Abraham who also walked with God was that they trusted God and so they obeyed him even in very unfavorable circumstances. One important thing you need to hold today about the process of working with God is that it requires complete and total trust in God. You need to allow the kingdom/government of God reign in your life in order to walk with God. When you do this, you will see the power and glory of the lord in your life just like the patriarchs mentioned.

Prayer: Heavenly father, I thank you for this day. I ask for the grace and power to walk accurately with you in Jesus name, Amen

THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD Part 1

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

1 Cor 15:21-22

So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man.

NLT

The teaching on the resurrection of the dead reveals that everyone who is in the kingdom of God and has the spirit of Christ will be redeemed in his body into a glorified body. This body will be like the one that Jesus has right now.

Remember that Jesus rose up from the dead after the third day, but His resurrection was the first of its kind to ever happen to any man. He didn’t resurrect with the same old body of flesh that is prone to corruption; He resurrected with the glorified body that can function in heaven and on the earth.

God never made man in the beginning to not be able to naturally interact with the spirit world (heavenly places). We were not given eyes and ears that couldn’t naturally see and hear angels or God Himself ( see Gen 3:10). We were given bodies that could naturally interact with the spirit realm and the physical. This body was not like the ones we have now, it was glorified. That was what we lost when Adam ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. As God told Him, he died the day he ate it (see Gen 2:17); his body stopped existing in the heavenly realm where God operates and death is separation from a realm of existence.

When our bodies have been redeemed, we will be resurrected from that death that happened to mankind in the Garden of Eden, our bodies will start functioning again in the heavenly realms.

You may notice that even though Jesus Christ is currently having a body that his disciples could touch and feel, he physically ascended into heaven and now is seated on the right hand of the throne of heaven. His new body has the capacity to do this; to operate in both the earth and heaven. So even though Jesus is in heaven as a man, He doesn’t grow old nor can He die anymore; this is an attribute of the redeemed body.

Jesus is the first to have the redeemed body and the will of God is that all we who believe will have this same body too at the right time. so even though death came through one man( Adam) the resurrection of the dead has begun through Jesus.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for this day. I ask lord that nothing will hinder me from being raptured. I pray this lord in Jesus glorious name. Amen

THE LAYING ON OF HANDS (ORDINATION)

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

1 Tim 4:14

Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

KJV

This aspect of the teachings on the laying on of hands reveals that God has called all His children into specific assignments within His kingdom. There is no one in the kingdom of God without a responsibility therein.

Now there are some that have been particularly called to do ministry in the house of God (just like others have been called into the business world, administrations, helps, etc.); they have been called particularly to minister to the church (body of Christ). These people are expected to lead the body of Christ and as we may put it these days, they are the ones called into the pulpit ministry. They stand as visible leaders in the body of Christ usually ministering the word and power of God to their hearers. The doctrine of the laying on of hands reveals that such people should be approved and authorized by the presbytery (the part of church reserved for the officiating minsters) and this approval is sealed by the laying on of hands. We normally call this approval an ordination.

Even though you may have a calling of God upon your life, if that calling is to minister the word to the body of Christ, or stand in leadership in the church of Christ( e.g. as an evangelist, pastor, teacher, prophet, Apostle), it is expedient for you to be officially ordained by the presbytery of an assembly of God’s people.

This should be done because it is the order of God’s house (even as seen in the Old Testament). When the church binds a thing on earth, it is bound in heaven and when we loose a thing on earth, it is loosed in heaven. If you want the approval and endorsement of heaven over your ministry get the approval and endorsement of a true assembly of Christ.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father. I thank you for your word. I pray you help me identify and walk in your purpose for my life each and every day, In Jesus name I pray. Amen

THE LAYING ON OF HANDS (TRANSFER VIRTUE)

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Acts 19:6-7

6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 7 There were about twelve men in all.

NIV

Today, we shall be looking briefly at the teachings on the laying on of hands.

There are basically two dimensions to this teaching of the laying on of hands: the teachings about ordination into the ministry by the presbytery and the aspect we shall be seeing today.

The laying on of hands was common practice in the early church.

When you lay your hands on someone in prayer, you are basically transferring virtue to that person. It could be healing virtue (see: Mar 16:18), impartation of the Holy Spirit (see: Acts 19:6, Acts 8:17), impartation Spiritual of gifts (1 Tim 4:14) etc. The idea is that out of the abundance of the spiritual resources supplied you by the Holy Ghost, you are transferring to the one upon whom you lay your hands.

This teaching reveals that we do not just receive these great things from the Holy Spirit but that we are expected also to share this power for the furtherance of the kingdom of Christ. Because our hands are the part of us that God has created to reach out and give people things physically, it has been ordained also to be used to give things spiritually.

I have come to realize that it is easier to receive from God because you want to give to others who do not have your access to Him than to receive because you want it for yourself alone.

Go into today knowing that the grace and virtue that God has deposited within you is also to be shared for the furtherance of the gospel and Kingdom of Christ.

YOU ARE NOW DIFFERENT

1 Kings 22:48

"Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber."

KJV

Solomon's ships had returned in safety, but Jehoshaphat's vessels never reached the land of gold. Providence prospers one, and frustrates the desires of another, in the same business and at the same spot, yet the Great Ruler is as good and wise at one time as another. May we have grace to-day, in the remembrance of this text, to bless the Lord for ships broken at Ezion-geber, as well as for vessels freighted with temporal blessings; let us not envy the more successful, nor murmur at our losses as though we were singularly and specially tried. Like Jehoshaphat, we may be precious in the Lord's sight, although our schemes end in disappointment.

The secret cause of Jehoshaphat's loss is well worthy of notice, for it is the root of very much of the suffering of the Lord's people; it was his alliance with a sinful family, his fellowship with sinners. In 2 Chron. 20:37, we are told that the Lord sent a prophet to declare, "Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the Lord hath broken thy works." This was a fatherly chastisement, which appears to have been blest to him; for in the verse which succeeds our morning's text we find him refusing to allow his servants to sail in the same vessels with those of the wicked king. Would to God that Jehoshaphat's experience might be a warning to the rest of the Lord's people, to avoid being unequally yoked together with unbelievers! A life of misery is usually the lot of those who are united in marriage, or in any other way of their own choosing, with the men of the world. O for such love to Jesus that, like Him, we may be holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father. I thank you for calling me out of this world and making Holy unto you. I pray you help me live always with this consciousness, In Jesus name. Amen

INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT BAPTISM

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Mark 16:16

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

KJV

Mr. Samuel was appointed as the new Commissioner for Works in his state; He privately received his letter from the governor’s office. For some reason, there was an omission somewhere that led to his name not publicly announced on the state media outlets before now. Nobody but he, the people in the governors Cabinet, the governor and a few other people Knew he had been appointed commissioner.

The day Mr. Samuel arrived in the ministry to resume as the new Commissioner; the security officers didn't let him into his new office because they didn’t even know there was a new commissioner. This happened because his appointment was not yet properly announced.

For the past two days, we have discussed on the first two elementary teachings about Christ. These are doctrines that any true Christian is to be grounded in as they are foundational teachings of the faith (see Heb 6:1-3).

Today we shall be looking briefly at INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT BAPTISM.

This teaching reveals that everyone who believes the gospel and accepts Christ should of necessity be baptized.

Baptism in the church is both that of water Immersion and the baptism in the Holy Ghost and it is compulsory, that is why it is an instruction. Baptism into Christ symbolizes that we are dead to everything that is not Christ. It means we are now alive to Christ and dead to the world. It is a public declaration of our faith and it makes things easier for us spiritually. It is like the spiritual public announcement of our new status which is essential for us as new children of the most high. This is very important because it gives you more licenses to access the things of God, and spiritual grounds to combat the kingdom of darkness and receive what God has given you.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for calling me into your glorious light. I thank you for the privilege I have to be born of your Spirit. Please lord; help me stay filled with the Holy Ghost, in Jesus name. Amen

# Your baptism is Spiritual public announcement of new status in Christ.

FAITH IN GOD

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Gen 22:2-3

2 Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."

3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

NIV

Faith in God is the trust and dependence in Him that makes you willing to obey all His instructions and leadings because you have come to realize that doing so will be the best for you. A man that has faith in God has realized that God is more interested in His well-being and success than He is.

Abraham trusted in God so he knew God was not going to leave Him stranded. He Knew God was always faithful so he was willing to sacrifice his son because he knew God was more interested in His legacy and linage than Him. God could raise Isaac or create another Isaac, whatever it would be; He knew God was not going to let him down.

There is only one way of walking with God perfectly and this is the way of totally trusting in Him and obeying Him- Faith in God.

Jesus says we should take no thought for our lives; what we shall eat, what we shall drink and where withal shall we be clothed. He told us this because He wanted to establish in our hearts the foundation of having faith in God and totally trusting Him for our physical survival.

Go into today knowing that God is more interested in your welfare than you can imagine. All you need to do is ask Him for what you need; believe you will receive and you will receive it(see Phil 4:6). Also remember never to make an idol out of the methods God uses to bless you.

FOUNDATION OF REPENTANCE

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 6:1-3

Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And God permitting, we will do so.

NIV

Our text outlines about five elementary teachings on Christ. After examining the five elementary teaching on Christ, we shall move on to the teachings for the mature.

We shall first be examining the foundation of repentance:

The teaching about the foundation of our repentance reveals that we were all born into this world with a sinful nature that is in enmity with God. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God (see Rom 3:23)

We inherited this nature from our father who inherited it from his father who ultimately inherited this nature from Adam, the first man who disobeyed God by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We see this sinful nature evident in us even as children, no one taught you how to lie or commit other sins as a child. We were all born with hearts that loved sin. Because of this nature that we had, it was impossible for us to have fellowship with God. This gave devil license to keep us in bondage. We were slaves to sin and the devil; doomed to eternal damnation. It was not so in the beginning.

Christ Jesus came to save us from our sins; the dominion of the devil and to usher us into the glorious life of the sons of God. He did this by coming to this world as a fleshly man without sin and redeeming us from our sins. He did this by willfully giving his life and shedding his blood for you and me. He resurrected from the dead after the third day and gave us (who believe) power over all the powers of the enemy. This power is that great power he exerted when he was raised from the dead into a glorified body.

Anyone who accepts Jesus now will not perish but have eternal life. Anyone who renounces His sins and confesses the lordship of Christ over his life shall be saved and given power over sin, the devil and all his works.

This is a summary of the teachings on the foundation of our repentance which is faith in the lord Jesus.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father. I thank you for your saving grace. I pray I will continue to experience this daily as I walk in your love, in Jesus name. Amen

GRACE IN TIME OF NEED

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 4:14-

14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

NLT

Grace is the ability God gives you to do the things He requires of you. You need God’s grace because you cannot please Him using your will, power or strength- they will always fail you.

God has given us grace as a fuel to propel us into His will (and into our destinies). Grace is one of the most amazing things that happen to we believers and we receive grace by faith in the lord Jesus; we receive grace by believing in the finished work of Christ for us; He became a replacement for us so that we will no longer suffer the consequences of our sins and iniquities, He has given us free access to the throne of God and we can have fellowship with the most High God.

No matter how you feel today, no matter how guilty you might feel for something you did or did not do, God’s word for you today is that you have a high priest (Christ Jesus) who understands you perfectly and who is always on your side, you can approach God’s throne boldly where you will receive God’s mercy and grace to help you in time of need. This is the grace that helps you overcome sin and all the powers of the enemy-something you can never do by your power.

#Do this by simply asking.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me access to your throne where I can obtain more grace. I pray I remain there by your mercy, in Jesus name. Amen

HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR MEASURE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT pt2

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 4:1-2

Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. a

NIV

Without faith it is impossible to please God (see Heb 11:6). Faith in this case also means a trust in God that He will do what He says and that He wants the best for you at all times; He will never lead you to doom or shame (this is what the Israelites who fell in the wilderness did not have).

There are many instructions the lord has given us that may seem hard for us, they may look as if obeying His will would make us suffer great loss in certain situations. It is in these cases that your faith in God is tried. You need to know that God truly loves you and He wants the best for you at all times. It may not physically look as if the best is what will happen to you if you continue to do the Lord’s will in certain situations, but that is what faith is, faith is what makes you trust God knowing that no matter what, because God is all powerful and all knowing, He will ultimately bring out the best that no human wisdom could possibly produce.

Faith in God also means believing in His power to do great things through you in this life.

This posture of mind (one that absolutely trusts and believes in the integrity of God’s word) is one that the Holy Spirit loves and manifests His greatness through.

One of the ways of maximizing your measure of the Holy Spirit is by trusting in Him; Having faith and believing that you have what God says you have, you can do all that He says you can do and you will go to all the places that He says you will go.

Prayer Confession: in Jesus name, from this day forth , I decree that I have all God says I have, I can do what God says I can do , I will get to where God says I will get to, In Jesus mighty name. Amen

FAITHFUL TO THE END

image
Heb 3:14-15
For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.
NLT
Samuel and faith’s wedding ceremony was really very exciting for both of them. They knew they would live a great life together. There was no doubt that they were really in love and were willing to do everything it took to keep everyday of their marriage as joyful as the first. Five years later, faith discovered she was no more as exited when she heard Samuel’s voice, they had certain misunderstandings and couldn’t understand why things didn’t go as well as they planned from the beginning. Even though Samuel still loved faith deeply, he noticed the love and passion was not like the first time; they had both lost their first love and have become almost lukewarm towards each other.
It is almost an inevitable phenomenon of life for people to lose their first love especially when they think they have arrived at their destination. ‘I have married her, she is now mine’ a man may say and a woman may say same, so it is now time to rest; there is no more trying to win the love and affection of your beloved since he or she is now married to you.
Our text tells us that if we are faithful to the end and trust God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Jesus. We will share in His power and glory both in this age and in the ones to come.
Many times, we Christians loose our first love because we are deceived into believing that we have arrived; we have set our hearts on the things of the world and the great things God is doing for us in this world, so that we tend to forget that there is a great hope and glory we are still striving towards.
let us remember that the best we can receive from God in this age, while in this unredeemed body, is just a foretaste of the things to come; a foretaste of the glory of God that will be revealed in us when Jesus appears on this earth and takes over the kingdoms and governments of this world, after the redemption of our bodies which is the resurrection of the dead.
Let us not relax yet (as it were) because we have not reached our Christian destination, we have not yet arrived; we still look forward to the appearing of our lord and the glorification of our bodies that will reveal our true nature as sons of God (See Rom 8:23).
Go into today knowing that even though you will see glory in this life while in this flesh, the best of this glory is but a foretaste of the things to come. We don’t get to become lukewarm because we have not yet got to the end.
Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for calling me and making me your own. I pray you help me never lose focus on the hope of my calling. In Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen

HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR MEASURE OF THE SPIRIT pt1

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 3:7-9

That is why the Holy Spirit says,

"Today when you hear his voice,

8 don't harden your hearts

as Israel did when they rebelled,

when they tested me in the wilderness.

Gal 5:17

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

NKJV

I had a discussion with my friend last night about this topic. He was of the opinion that every Christian who is born again has been given the Holy Spirit without measure, that it was only as a result of not growing into maturity that Christians do not yet get to walk in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Although I didn’t fully agree with this, I cannot but point out that one needs to grow spiritually in order to fully actualize his spiritual potential.

There are certain things that hinder our measure of the Holy Spirit. God’s plan for all of us is that just like Jesus; we will have the Holy Spirit without measure and live a superior, supernatural life on this earth.

All the things that hinder the flow of the spirit can be summarized in one word-FLESH.

The spirit and the flesh are like fire and water. One quenches the other (see Gal 5:17). When a Christian walks in the spirit, it’s consequence is that he sets his mind on the things of the spirit (see Rom 8:5); such a one will have the easy flow of the Holy Spirit in his life. This means the life of such a Christians will no more be ordinary but will be extra ordinary. The negative things that happen to others in the world cannot happen to such a one. A thousand may fall by his side and ten thousand by his right side but it shall not come near him, this is because this Christians dwells in the secret place of the most high (see psalm 91:1, 10).

When a Christian on the other hand walks in the flesh, he or she also sets his heart on the things of this world. One of the ways of checking this is examining your principles of life and the most important things to you (are they of this world or of the Spirit). A Christian who walks in the flesh will have a very limited flow of the Holy Spirit in His life. This means his life will just be ordinary and not much different from that of the people in the world. This is much less than God’s plan for every Christian and that is why we are instructed to walk in the spirit.

Go into today knowing that you are to walk in the Spirit because this is the way to maximize your measure of the Holy Ghost and do exploits on the earth.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you giving me today as another avenue to show forth your glory and power. I pray you give me grace to set my mind always on you and walk in the Spirit. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

GOD’S REST

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 4:3

For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,

"As I swore in My wrath,

They shall not enter My rest,"

although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.

NASB

One of the major messages of Hebrews is that God has prepared unto us a rest; a rest from all troubles of life; a rest for the spirit, soul and body. This rest is exactly what we will enter into when our bodies have been redeemed so that our true nature as SONS of God can be revealed (see Rom 8:23). Then, we will truly see on this earth that a lion and a lamb will lie on the field... We will have total dominion over all things through Christ; there will be no resistance to our glory and we will even judge angels (see 1 Cor 6:3). This is the time when we will rule the kingdoms of the earth with Christ as the king who will rule from Jerusalem. He will give to some cities to rule and others smaller territories depending on their work now on earth. Jesus will judge everything; everyone and even people and systems that appear to have escaped judgment in this world will be judged.

This is the hope of our calling; that we are going to someday rule the universe with our lord in our God’s rest.

Even though all this is going to happen after the rapture of the saints which will give room to the glorification of our bodies, God in His kindness has not left us orphans in this current world. He has sent us the Holy Spirit who is the earnest of the inheritance we have in His kingdom; God has sent the Holy Ghost and He gives us the first fruits of these things that we expect. He gives us a foretaste of the glory to come; so you can begin to live in total dominion here in this earth and experience a portion of the power to come (see Heb 6:5), you can begin to walk in prosperity and dominion and power on the earth. The presence of these first fruits in your life will depend on the measure of the Holy Spirit you have in your life.

Go into today knowing that God has indeed called you into His rest and this rest begins right now.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for your word today. I pray that you help me constantly work in the light of your plan for me. Thank you dear lord for your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

GOD WILL DO IT

Heb 3:7-9

That is why the Holy Spirit says,

"Today when you hear his voice,

8 don't harden your hearts

as Israel did when they rebelled,

when they tested me in the wilderness.

9

NLT

The people of Israel were set free from their bondage and set to go into the promise land. Many of them did not make it into the promise land even though God had already saved them by a mighty hand. Many of them fell in the wilderness because of unbelief in the lord God. Even though these ones were set free to enter into God’s rest, they never did because they did not believe. There was unbelief in their hearts and they limited the holy God by their words and actions.

One of the most heinous transgressions any Christian can commit is unbelief. God has called you out of darkness and brought you into His glorious light. There are promises that God has given to we the church, promises of the redemption of our bodies and a kingdom unending in eternal life. God has ratified these promises with the Holy Spirit so even though we do not see all these promises come to pass now, we see a foretaste because of the Holy spirit- this is just like the people of Israel who saw signs and wonders in the wilderness through the hand of Moses.

I don’t know what promises God has assured you about, do not displease him by allowing any ounce of unbelief in your heart. Sin in a Christian’s life is a fruit that has seed in itself; it is a fruit of the seed called unbelief.

God has promised all these great things. If we believe his word we will keep ourselves always under his dominion and in due time we will see each and every one of these promises come to pass.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father. I thank you for giving me the kingdom. I pray you give me grace to walk constantly in your presence. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

REALATIONSHIP WITH GOD

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Rom 5:6-11

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God's sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God's condemnation. 10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

NLT

Little Salma was so scared of the dark that she could not sleep in her room alone. There was something strange about the way darkness scared her, she screamed and ran away whenever the lights were put out. Her mother came up with a brilliant solution; she bought Salma a long lasting LED light that could stay on for several hours and would charge during the day. ‘Make sure you never put off this light. Keep it with you at all times so you can sleep in peace’ Salma’s mother told her every night.

Sin had always been the cause of enmity between man and God. God is life, sin is death. It wouldn’t be wrong to say the opposite of God is Sin because sin is the spiritual equivalence of darkness and God is the light. Light always overcomes darkness. The best way to keep sin away so that you can enjoy a good relationship with God is by staying always in the presence of God who is the Light. God has sent you His precious Holy Spirit to live in you; this is the power you need to overcome sin at all times.

Go into today with your heart dominated by a Holy Spirit consciousness and a determination to break the power of sin in your life by constantly practicing the presence of God. Let the light always stay on and don’t forget to recharge by constantly studying the word of God in an atmosphere of prayer. Also take out some moments from time to time to pray fervently in the spirit.
