Philippians 3:13-14 (KJV) Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

When I was in secondary school, there were those who believed they knew mathematics so much that there was nothing more to learn. They felt quite arrogant because they believed there was no mathematical problem they couldn't solve. But their arrogance was because of their limited exposure to real mathematics in secondary school. But as many of them went to the university and started doing real mathematics, they became humble and realized that the higher they went in studying mathematics, the narrower their scope in mathematics became because that field of study is so wide at the advanced level that, for example, it is impossible to do a Ph.D. in all aspects at the same time.

As soon as a believer begins to think he has arrived and does not need to learn and grow again, that believer can be sure he will soon be called home or backside terribly. If anyone thinks he knows enough, it is a sign that he doesn't know as much as he needs to know (1 Corinthians 8:2).

If apostle Paul were comparing himself with other Christians around him, he might have been feeling accomplished, but he understood that there was a prize for the high calling in God, and attaining it was his goal.

Do you know that God has expectations of you in this season of your life? Let your goal be that you meet these expectations.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me know your expectations of me in this season and help me fulfill them. Amen.

Impending Judgment

Acts 24:25 (NET)While Paul was discussing righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will send for you.”

When Lamar accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, he didn’t accept Christ because someone told him that that was a ticket to a better life (that gospel could never appeal to Lamar because he was born into great wealth), he believed in Christ because he now realized that Christ was the only one who could shield him from the judgment that was sure to come. He had several disturbing dreams before a preacher brought the gospel to him, and in those dreams, he saw himself descending into hell fire. He knew he was doomed but didn’t know the way out until the gospel came to him.

Today, there is a conscious effort by some to remove the warning about the judgment of God from the preaching of the gospel. Any gospel message that does not properly explain the ramification of Jesus' salvation from impending judgment is a weak gospel. One main point of the gospel message is that receiving Jesus is the only way to escape the impending damnation (see John 3:18).

From today’s Bible verse, we can clearly see that one element of the gospel message preached by the apostles was "The Judgment of God". When in the days of the apostles, people they preached to asked ‘what shall we do [to be saved]?’(see Acts 2:37, 16:30) they asked this question because they understood that there is impending judgment and doom, and they wanted to be saved from it.

Go into today remembering that there is coming judgment on all humankind. The only way to escape it is through the salvation of Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to make you more effective in helping people escape eternal damnation by preaching the gospel to them.

The Fruit of the Spirit

Galatians 5:22-24 (NET) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Even though Evans had accepted the Lord Jesus and was being discipled in the Church, because he was truthful to himself, he knew that his life was not producing the fruit of the spirit. This bothered him greatly because he understood that the presence of the fruit of the spirit was a demonstration of spiritual growth and maturity. It took him some time of soul searching with God's word for him to find out that he was not manifesting the fruit of the spirit because he had not crucified the flesh and its passions. For example, he loved movies so much that he would regularly miss his personal prayer time because of them. His excessive love for movies was a passion of the flesh that he needed to tame.

A believer who has not crucified the flesh and its passions cannot bring forth the fruit of the spirit. What God is doing in us believers is that He is conforming us to the image and the nature of Christ (see Romans 8:29). We were all born into this world with the Adamic nature which is sinful, but we must deny that nature and walk in the divine nature we have received through the Holy Spirit. Those who continue to walk in the Adamic sinful nature cannot please God, nor will they be able to inherit their thrones in God's kingdom.

Go into today remembering that after believing in the Lord Jesus, denying the flesh (and its passions) is necessary if your life will bring forth the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit in any life is proof that that person has received the nature of Christ. When God evaluates us for promotion, he looks out for fruits.

Ephesians 5:5 (NET)  For you can be confident of this one thing: that no person who is immoral, impure, or greedy (such a person is an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Dr. Dimitri owned and controlled the most important company in his country. This company was the highest employer of labor in the small island state Dr. Dimitri was so proud to be from. He was getting old and wanted to retire. He wanted to hand over the company to someone with his nature and wisdom. If the company ended up in the wrong hands, too many families would be distressed because there would be staff layoffs.

Because Dimitri understood that running that company properly was a trust from God, he was more concerned about handing over the company to a competent hand than to his biological child. Thankfully, his second son was as talented as they came. If his son did not demonstrate competence, Dimitri would not have handed over the company to him.

The biggest problem of the natural (sinful) man is that we do not have the nature of God and thus cannot inherit his kingdom that was prepared for us from the foundation of the world. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17). The old nature of sin must be replaced with the new nature of Christ. You must die to your old life and habits and let the life of Christ spring out through you. This is the only way you would have the nature that can inherit God’s kingdom.

Go into today remembering that the old sinful nature of adam(flesh) cannot inherit the kingdom of God. it is only those who have the nature and Character of Christ that will inherit his kingdom. Do not just be satisfied with missing hell, your destiny is to rule and reign in God’s eternal kingdom.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me to walk worthy of my calling in you. Amen.

Forgiveness of sins

1 John 1:8-9 (NET) If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness.

Against his father's instruction, Segun took his father's special car and drove it to school when his father was out of town. Unfortunately, Segun had an auto crash and broke the front light of his father's Bugatti Divo. He tried to get it fixed with his savings but his savings were not sufficient. He had to take the car back home in shame, awaiting his father's rebuke.

When his father returned and saw the car, he was displeased but not surprised. He knew of all the times Segun had been sneaking the car out without his consent because his car had an app on his phone that informed him of the car's every move.

"Segun! you are grounded. No more video games, you're only allowed to go to school and back, no more allowances, no smartphone, no visits to friends or the mall, etc.

What pained Segun the most about him being grounded was that his dad no longer had conversations with him, and they no longer went to play golf together. Segun was so unhappy that his friends knew something was wrong.

After one month of being grounded, Segun couldn't take it anymore. He went to his dad and apologized for what he had done. This time he meant it, and he now realized that what his father really wanted him to repent of and stop doing was deceit and disobedience. "You could have been killed by that truck. You don't have the required skills to drive that car", his father said.

Segun's dad was more than happy to forgive him. He was praying Segun would repent and apologize so their relationship would be restored. Even though Segun's dad wanted a restored relationship and friendship with his son, that could not happen until Segun acknowledged what he had done and repented.

As a member of God's Holy family, there are things you may be doing that are the reason you are not enjoying communion and friendship with God and the attendant benefits. The light of God's word is what reveals these things to us, and as we acknowledge them and repent of them, we are forgiven and cleansed from all unrighteousness. Our communion with God is restored and we are able to partake of the benefits of being close to God.

Go into today remembering that without repentance there is no remission of sin or forgiveness of sins. Sin is the nature that makes it impossible for us to fellowship with God. Sins are the spots and wrinkles that we may still have, even though we have received the divine nature.

John 21:15 (KJV) So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

After Larry submitted himself to discipleship, he was now accountable to his discipler who prayerfully monitored his spiritual progress.

The first day his discipler visited him in his house, he saw that Lary's room was decorated with pictures of indecently dressed female pop stars. He also observed that most of Larry’s music was not spiritually edifying at all. Larry’s discipler took time to explain to him that the environment he created around himself was very important, and the pictures he had on his wall were not appropriate for a spirit-filled child of God. Even though some of those autographed pictures cost Larry a lot of money to acquire, he willingly removed them and destroyed them. He also got rid of all his music that was not spiritually edifying.

His discipler spent some time in his house that day. They ate together, studied the word of God together, and took some time to pray. Larry had many questions and many assumptions that were wrong, but his discipler answered his questions and corrected his wrong assumptions.

Larry and his discipler continued to meet regularly, talk on the phone, and pray together. Larry observed that because of his interaction with his discipler, he became much stronger spiritually. With time, Larry too became a soul winner and discipler.

Discipleship is the way by which more mature believers feed the Lord’s lambs (newborn believers). Those who truly love the Lord would be involved in this (see John 21:15,17). Many have fallen away not because they did not truly believe but because they were not discipled by anyone.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you play your part in the end-time harvest.

The Danger of Disobeying God Willfully

Psalms 68:6 (NLT) “God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But for rebels, there is only famine and distress."
Jay was just a little child when God began to speak to him about his future. This made him a very happy child. But as he grew and began to have wishes, he began to wish for things that were not captured in what God had shown him and he eventually veered off God's plans, chasing after his own wishes. After several failed attempts at becoming his dream man, he returned to God seeking pardon and restoration. Yes, God pardoned him but he had suffered multiple disappointments, pains, and failures.

There is hope for the lonely because God can make them a home. There is also hope for the imprisoned because God can set them free, but there is no hope for the rebellious, there is nothing for them in God. To be rebellious is to willfully turn away from God and/or His commandments. This sin was equated to witchcraft and the judgment for witchcraft was death.

“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king” 1 Samuel 15:23 KJV.

“Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" Exodus 22:18 KJV.

There is nothing good in knowing what God wants and refusing to do it, the least severe of its consequences are famine and distress. The decision is yours to make!

Go into today knowing that God's commandments are for your good. Make up your mind to obey them.

Prayer: ask for God's forgiveness for your past disobedience and rebellions. Ask God to restore you.

Matthew 28:19 (NET)Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

After Larry accepted Christ, he realized that he no longer had the desire to be a sinner. But as time passed, he saw that his desire was not strong enough to keep him from his old sinful habits. Each time he fell, he felt uneasy inside because he knew he was not acting in accordance with his new nature. He knew he had received a new nature inside, but he wanted to know how to let this new nature dominate him and no more the old nature. After discussing his challenges with the person that led him to Christ, it became clear to him that he needed to submit himself to discipleship.

Discipleship is God’s educational system for training believers to walk in their new nature through the renewal of their minds by the word(see Rom 12:2). Spiritually mature believers are those who are no more carnal (dominated by the flesh) but are now dominated by the spirit. These are the believers whose lives are now dominated by the kingdom of God and who are striving for their reward in the kingdom.

One very important aspect of discipleship is the ministry of the word and prayer. You cannot disciple people without regularly interceding for them and teaching them the word of God; explaining the mysteries of the kingdom of God to them. Without proper discipleship, new believers will remain spiritual babies and may not abide in the Lord.

Go into today determined to submit yourself to proper discipleship if you are still controlled by your old nature of sin as a believer. If you are a discipler, ask the Lord to multiply your grace for this.

Isaiah 26:3 (NET) You keep completely safe the people who maintain their faith, for they trust in you.

When Sylvia wanted to travel overseas for the first time, she heard that there was a new virus in Wuhan China called coronavirus. Because she was a medical personnel, she understood how these viruses spread and knew that the virus was most certainly already spreading in the city she was traveling to. After she got to the city, a lockdown was declared and she was stuck in that city for several months. That city eventually became the worst hit city by the virus now popularly called covid 19. Millions of people died in that city, including many in her profession. Many of the medical personnel in the medical institution she was training in contracted the virus and died.

Sylvia was never afraid of dying from the virus because before she left for the training that took her to that city, she sought the Lord and got His consent. Because she trusted the Lord, she knew He wouldn't give her consent to go on a journey in which she would meet an untimely death.

Even though Sylvia worked with so many medical personnel who contracted the virus and died, she was kept completely safe from the virus because she trusted in the Lord. For some reason, Sylvia understood that if she allowed her faith to waver and join the rest of her colleagues in their fear and self-pity, she would expose herself spiritually and contract the virus. All she knew was that the Lord had spoken to her and she was not going to doubt His promises. This was the basis of her faith that became contagious and led to the recovery of her sister who got the virus but was miraculously healed when Sylvia prayed for her.

Go into today remembering that trusting completely in the Lord is the secret to enjoying God's unparalleled protection and grace.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me trust you completely, so I can enjoy your unparalleled protection

Psalms 125:1 (KJV) They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.

The witches in Dare’s community had concluded that they were going to destroy him completely. They had hatched a wicked plan that they believed could not fail. They first wanted to destroy his business, collapse his faith through the trials of his business, then cause him to fall into immorality, and then destroy his marriage. Dare didn't know anything about these plans, but what he had going for him was that he truly trusted in the Lord.

When the storm started and his business was experiencing real turbulence, he went to the Lord in prayer, and he received a word from the Lord that all would be well. This assurance made him unmovable and his faith did not fail despite the trials. Because his faith did not fail as the witches had planned, all the other components of their plan failed. After a few months, his business was restored and even bigger. His marriage was stronger and not weaker because at that time his business was facing challenges, his wife supported him so much that he now trusted and loved her so much more.

Dare's secret was that he trusted in the Lord, so when the trials could have shaken him so much that his faith would fail, he was unmovable and even became stronger.

Do you trust in the Lord? Is God's word concerning a situation that is troubling you enough? Or do you still need "assurances"?

Go into today remembering that the way to build your trust in the Lord is to allow the word of God to be the final authority in your life. Determine to be a person of truth in all you do. This is the easiest way to reprogram your heart to trust God. A person who does not trust himself would find it difficult to trust anyone else, not even God.

Ephesians 6:10 (NET) Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power.

King David was a man of like passion: he believed in the Lord and hoped in His salvation just like you and me today. David went through a lot of ups and downs in his life, but in the end, the spirit of God bore witness that he fulfilled his destiny and served God's purpose in his own generation(see Acts 13:36).

David had one secret that carried him through the battles of life and he always came out victorious. He understood how to draw strength from the Lord. There was a time he and his men came back home after a very long day, but they found that their homes had been plundered and their families were taken away as captives. It was at this point that we see an example of a man strengthening himself in the Lord.

1 Samuel 30:6 (ASV) says: “[and] David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David strengthened himself in Jehovah his God”.

At the end of that situation, David was victorious and recovered all that was lost(with extra) because he strengthened (encouraged) himself in the LORD his God [and did not wallow in discouragement like the others]. Drawing strength from the Lord was David's secret of victory in every battle. It is also our secret today.

Today's verse is talking about spiritual warfare and the first instruction we are given is that we should strengthen ourselves in the Lord. When there was a reason for David to be depressed, he decided to draw joy from the Lord and not allow the circumstances around him to make him depressed. This is also our battle strategy.

David drew His strength from the Lord because he understood that the Lord loves him and is on his side, and as long as the Lord is on his side, he would always come out victorious. When he was boasting against Goliath, it wasn't because he had a big sword, it was because he had a big God.

Go into today remembering that the joy of the Lord is your strength. Remember that the greatest God is on your side. Let this be your source of strength(see Philippians 4:4).

Prayer: Lord, help me to always draw my strength from you. Deliver me from the temptation to be heavy and depressed when circumstances do not go my way. Thank you for giving me victory always (2 Corinthians 2:14). Amen.

Isaiah 26:3 (KJV) Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

It looked like all was going well with Arnold, but each time he thought about his finances, he lost his peace because he knew that all was not well. He had invested a lot of money in a real estate deal, but the investment was looking as if it was not going to pay off when there was a flood in that part of the city. Arnold lost his peace and could not sleep. He needed to be on prescription drugs in order to get a decent night's sleep.

One of the most treasured desires of the heart of man is peace. The usage of Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50 times stronger than Heroin has become a global epidemic because the more people repel the knowledge of God in their hearts, the less peace they find, and the more they would need to seek it in things like drugs.

Unfortunately, there are many believers whose hearts are nearly as troubled as the hearts of those who have no God and no hope. They live like the waves tossed to and fro the shores because they have not learned the secret of receiving God's perfect peace.

Today's Bible verse reveals that it is those whose hearts are stayed on God that would enjoy perfect peace. The truth is that your heart cannot stay on God if you don't trust in God.

God is all-powerful and He is involved in our lives. But when we doubt Him, we limit Him in our lives. Nothing conditions the heart against trusting God like iniquity. A man who walks in iniquity cannot trust himself. A man that cannot trust himself will find that he doesn't have the power to trust anyone else, not even God.

Many people say that they trust God, but their actions reveal the opposite. The Israelites that came out of Egypt wanted to believe in God when they saw the consequences of their unbelief, but they could not find the ability to believe in God, so their boldface did not produce any results (see Numbers 14:40-45). Their hearts had been conditioned against faith because of iniquity. This was demonstrated in the fact that in just a few weeks Moses was not with God, they had slid into blatant idolatry and whoredom.

Go into today remembering that you need to trust God in order to walk in His perfect peace. Trusting God from us is not a luxury, it is an important necessity.

Because Temitayo wanted to win the trophy, she was willing to do whatever it took. It became impossible for her to hide this from the people around her. Everyone now knew she was an athlete because she always did something that showed she was preparing for the championship.

It doesn't take time for people who have to deal with really serious athletes to know that they are athletes. It is very difficult for them to hide this fact about themselves. It shows.

In the same way, when a believer is really serious about his kingdom assignment and winning his prize, he cannot hide his identity as a believer for long. Under normal circumstances, any believer who has successfully been able to hide his identity from his coworkers for several months may have been able to do so because he is not really striving for the prize of the mark of the high calling in God. Daniel worked in a godless environment, but it was impossible for him to hide who he really was. Moses couldn’t either.

When your kingdom assignment takes over you and becomes the most important thing in your life, you will find that you are a witness for Christ everywhere you go. The Holy Spirit would begin to give you insight into people's lives just because He wants you to share the gospel with them.

Go into today remembering that you are first and foremost a witness for Christ in every place He has planted you. Ask the Lord to help you to this end. Ask for the wisdom to be a soul-winner.

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (KJV) Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

When Temitayo started preparing for the championship in tennis, she knew she now had to become temperate in her eating, sleeping, watching movies, etc.

She was told by her instructor that she could no longer eat anything but had to only eat things that maximize energy output. Her life became greatly streamlined because of this championship.

Temitayo made the sacrifices she made because she wanted to win the tennis championship.

We are also in a championship, but this is for an infinitely more valuable incorruptible prize. The devil and his hordes of demons are our contenders that can't win the prize, but they want to hinder us. The only human beings that can overcome them are those who believe in the Lord Jesus (see 1 John 5:5).

We must maintain a champion's mindset of self-control. We must not let the flesh hinder us. We must always put the flesh under the will of our renewed minds. This is the only way to appropriate our victory over our contenders.

Go into today remembering that the prize you have to win is the reward for faithfully doing the work cut out for you by God. This reward, among other things, will translate to your place of glory and authority in God's eternal kingdom that would never end. Not everyone in the kingdom will receive a reward, some will suffer loss (see 1 Cor 3:15).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you run in such a way that you would receive your reward (1 Cor 9:24).

Hebrews 11:17-19 (NET) By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac. He had received the promises, yet he was ready to offer up his only son. God had told him, “Through Isaac descendants will carry on your name,” and he reasoned that God could even raise him from the dead, and in a sense he received him back from there.

It can be very painful when you are not trusted, especially if you are a very truthful person. Without trust, friendship is literally impossible.

God is so truthful that His spirit is called the spirit of truth (see John 14:7).  People that doubt God cannot be very close to Him. (See Hebrews 11:6). People who trust Him are those who would be close to Him and walk in His glory.

Faith means to believe in God and believe His promises. This was Abraham's secret. God made him some promises and he believed them wholeheartedly, even when it no longer made logical sense for him to believe. This belief that Abraham had in God controlled the things he did. This impressed God so much.

Even when God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, because God had already promised him that it was through Isaac that his descendants were going to be numbered, he reasoned that it meant God was going to raise Isaac from the dead after the sacrifice, or something like that. Abraham was not being deceptive when he told his servants that he and Isaac were going to worship God and return back (Genesis 22:5). He trusted God's word so much that he didn't have the ability to think Isaac was going to be lost to the sacrifice.

Abraham's story was that He trusted God so much that he knew God's plan for him was better than his plan for himself.

Anyone that would have a relationship with God must have God's words as the basis of His faith in God. When the Lord has spoken to you and you believe it, you will see the manifestation of God's words, as long as you don't waver in faith.

Know today that God is more trustworthy than any other person you can ever find. God cannot lie, and it is only wise to trust and not doubt him. Circumstances and temptations may try your faith in God, but remember that it is those who keep their hearts stayed on God (because they trust in Him) that will experience His perfect peace (see Isaiah 26:3).

Go into today remembering to find God's word for you in every area of concern, and believe it until you see the manifestation of the things He has promised.

Philippians 2:1-3 (NET) Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort provided by love, any fellowship in the Spirit, any affection or mercy, complete my joy and be of the same mind, by having the same love, being united in spirit, and having one purpose. Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself.

Seun had dealt with people long enough for him to know that, more than anything else, people are controlled by their selfish motives. So he was not surprised when Sola behaved the way he did. Sola was selfish and greedy. He only looked out for himself, and whenever it seemed he was looking out for others, it was because it was an indirect way of him looking out for himself.

Seun did not know he could trust anyone until he met Trevor and Daniel who were true believers whose hearts had been changed by God's word. They were truly selfless and humble. Seun became a believer in the Lord Jesus through their influence.

If people are not selfless and humble, it would be practically impossible for them to walk in unity and love. The secret to walking in true unity and love has been revealed in today's Bible verses.

Even among believers, walking in unity may be a far cry if they don't understand the principle of selflessness. The Adamic man is naturally selfish and self-centered. But as we are transformed into the image of Christ, we receive the mind of Christ which is selfless and perfectly humble.

The only time people can truly walk in unity is when they meet the conditions of Philippians 2 verse 3 which says:

Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself.

Go into today making it your goal to be like Christ and have his mind. Jesus was willing to give his life to save us. If for example, there is only one seat and you and someone else are tired and need to sit down, be the one to offer the seat to the other person. Treat people better than you would expect to be treated. This doesn't mean you have low self-esteem, it means you have the mind of Christ.

Why Trouble the Master Any Further

Mark 5:35 (BBE) And while he was still talking, they came from the ruler of the Synagogue’s house, saying, Your daughter is dead: why are you still troubling the Master?

The responsibility of raising a child is a most grave and serious responsibility. It changes people. There are very few things sadder than a parent watching helplessly a child suffer. In fact, someone once posited that so sad is the reality of a parent losing a child that the English word has no fitting expression for it.

Jarius, a leader in the synagogue, was in such a situation, his daughter lay dying of an illness, and nothing he had done had worked, instead, the situation was getting worse. He must have been plagued with fear and a great dread of the possibility of losing her. He came and fell at the feet of Jesus and prayed him to intervene; to heal his daughter. And Jesus had mercy on him and was going to go with him to the house to heal his daughter.

However, while they were still en route, the child died. Then came messengers from the house saying to Jesus, “Why trouble the Master any further?” What they were really saying was, ‘the situation has become hopeless, therefore don't put Jesus through the stress of still coming to your house’. The reaction and response of Jesus is quite instructive.

Firstly, when Jesus (over)heard them saying this, he turned to Jarius and spoke to him immediately. Notice how Jesus quickly reacted to the report of these messengers regardless of the fact that they were not addressing him. This is because Jesus understood the potential effect of such report to the heart of Jarius and how that could ultimately shape the events of the day.

Secondly, take note of the response of Jesus, he said, “have no fear, only have faith”. At the end of that day’s event, Jarius had his daughter raised from the dead.

What lessons can we learn from this?

We must learn to respond to circumstances from the viewpoint of faith and nothing else. Faith here would mean believing what God says about himself and acting on the strength of that. While it might sound commonsensical to conclude that a situation had become hopeless because it has gone beyond what the intervention of men can address, however, has God placed a limitation on his ability by the boundaries of men’s capabilities?

For example, what does God call ‘hopeless’? What does the Lord count as ‘troubling’? Knowing, believing and acting on this is what practical faith is. When next you hear “It is done, trouble the Master no more”, be diligent enough to ask, “Says who?”

Go into today refusing to accept voices that put a limitation on the power of God. Pray without ceasing, and if that be trouble, then trouble the Master on.

Ephesians 5:25 (KJV) “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it"

Abel married Mabel the love of his life after courting her for two years. They had enjoyed beautiful moments of courtship. After another beautiful, dream come true honeymoon, it was time for the “happily ever after". But, it was only days after the honeymoon had ended that frictions began. Mabel exclaimed, "This is not the man I married," to which Abel replied, "you're not submissive, don't you read your Bible?". “Who submits to a beast? You tricked me into marrying you, I thought you loved me, you deceived me" responded Mabel.

This was how they lived for a very long time because Abel believed Mabel deserved his love only when she submits to him. Should a husband love a disobedient and unsubmissive wife? What does God command?

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it" is God's commandment. It is not “husbands, love your wife when she submits and obeys you”. Every man who wants to become a husband must be well acquainted with and willing to obey this command.

Your standard as a husband is Christ, you will have to constantly ask the question, “am I loving my wife as Christ loved the Church?"

Go into today knowing that loving your wife is not one of the options, rather, it is God's command to husbands.

Prayer: Ask God for the grace to truly love.

Colossians 1:13 (NET) He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son he loves

When Ebuka first heard the gospel message, he knew he was walking under the power of an ancestral curse. His elder brother’s first daughter died at birth. His younger brother had also just lost his first daughter too. There were other aspects of this ancestral curse that manifested, and Ebuka knew that he was under the dominion of the dark powers responsible for this curse on his family.

When he received the gospel and believed it, one of the most exciting things about it was that he was no longer under the dominion of darkness but now brought to the dominion of Christ.

Somehow he knew that the extent to which he submitted to the dominion of Christ (that he was now translated into) was the extent to which he would walk outside of the physical manifestation of the dominion of darkness (that he was now delivered from). He decided to live a life that is totally sold out to Christ and His kingdom. This is how he lived a life that was totally free from the influence of the very dark forces that had held his entire family captive for generations.

God did not just deliver you from the kingdom and dominion of darkness, He transferred you into the kingdom of Christ Jesus.

It is the authority of this new kingdom that enforces the reality of your deliverance. When a law is given, it may appear as if it does not exist if it is not enforced by the appropriate authorities.

Go into today remembering that it is by the authority of Christ’s kingdom that you enter into the experience of your freedom.

Ephesians 6:2-3 (NET) “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely, “that it may go well with you and that you will live a long time on the earth.”

Because of what his discipler taught him, Joe understood that the promises of prosperity and long days were going to be activated in his life when he got rid of his bitterness and began to honor his parents. After he overcame the bitterness in his heart through the help of the Holy Spirit and started honoring his parents by showing them respect and giving them gifts regularly, he started regularly confessing the promise of God that he would see good days on the earth. He had the faith to expect the manifestation of this promise in his life because he knew that by faith, he was now meeting the condition of this promise.

God's promises give us hope (an expectation), and faith gives substance to this hope (see Hebrews 11:1). For example, a person believes that he is healed through the stripes of Jesus because he has placed his faith in Jesus. That is hope. But he needs to give substance to this hope in order for him to receive his healing. One of the ways to give substance to your hope is by confessing what you hope for. Your confession becomes an act of faith. It now gives substance to what you hope for.

In mark 11:23, we can see that it is if a person believes and speaks according to what he believes that he will receive what he believes. The easiest way to give substance to your hope is by speaking it out. But you would not have the boldness to effectively do this if you are walking in disobedience.

Go into today remembering that faith is the action that accompanies the hope we receive from God’s word.

Prayer: ask the Lord to help you understand His promises and the conditions to receive them so that your faith will be boosted to receive all His promises for you.

Acts 8:26-27a (NIV) Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship

The beep of her phone broke her concentration, so she dropped the book she was reading and glanced at her phone. She had put her phone on vibration mode, so she could spend some alone time. As she picked up the phone, she made a mental note to put it on “Do not Disturb” mode next time.

When Mrs. Helen swiped her phone open, she saw that the beep had come from an SMS notification from her women fellowship member, Mrs. Ubong. The text read:

“Ma, the Lord has directed me to start a Bible Club for kids in my neighborhood. But you know that I am shy and reserved, I don’t know what to do. What do you counsel Ma?”

It took Mrs. Helen only a few seconds to think of a response, she typed it and responded to the text thus:

“Start a Bible Club.”

Acts chapter 8 records the story of Philip. Philip had just completed what could be termed a successful evangelistic crusade in Samaria when an angel of the Lord said for him to go to a certain location. The details of what he was to do were not particularly given to him, just a location, and the next sentence is profound and instructive, it says, “so he started out”. You can observe the prompt response of obedience to the voice of God exhibited by Philip.

The story unfolds as he meets an eminent personality where God had directed him to. However, there was just one challenge; the man, an Ethiopian Eunuch, was on a chariot back to his homeland. A chariot was an ancient means of transportation built for speed. Then came the next set of instructions:

‘The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. (Acts 8:29-30).

Again, Philip got an instruction, and he responded by breaking into a sprint in obedience. He caught up with the chariot, initiated a conversation, and got invited to sit with the Eunuch and he ended up winning the man to Christ and getting him baptized in water.

A culture of prompt obedience to the promptings and leading of the Holy Spirit makes us useful and veritable vessels profitable in the work and service of the Master.

Go into today with a resolve to build a culture of obedience to the voice of God echoed in the Word, and by the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:12 (NET) Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things that are freely given to us by God.

When Seye received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, he lost the zeal he used to have for social media show-offs. As he grew spiritually, he also realized that he was no longer living his life to prove any point and demonstrate superiority. What now really mattered to him was pleasing God. Because of this, Seye found that his walk with God was now fruitful.

The spirit of the world is the reason why people of the world are proud, greedy, and sexually immoral. The spirit of the world is responsible for the wisdom of this world which is jealous, selfish, proud, etc.

One of the major things the Holy Spirit does to the believer is that He changes the believer's nature into the nature of Christ. He crystallizes in us the mind of Christ. It is only those who have the spirit and mind of Christ that would be able to know the things that have been freely given to them by God. This knowledge is not natural mental knowledge but revelational knowledge that serves as keys and portals into those realities in God.

Go into today remembering that as long as a person has the spirit and attitude of the world, he would find it hard to walk in the revelational knowledge that produces results in the life of a believer.

2 Thessalonians 3:6 (NET) But we command you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who lives an undisciplined life and not according to the tradition they received from us.

Even though Flavian knew that David was living an undisciplined life, he kept a close relationship with him and remained his closest buddy. David was a believer, but he was very indisciplined with the opposite sex and this had led to a number of "incidences" that Flavian knew very well about. There was even an abortion.

Flavian who never struggled with immorality before now started having compulsive thoughts and imaginations. He knew that he would eventually commit adultery, so he became restless in spirit. It was when he took out time to seek the Lord in prayer and fasting that the Lord revealed to him that his struggle was because of his close association with David.

In today's Bible verse, we see that we are to avoid undisciplined brothers. This is a very important instruction for believers who intend to stay spiritually uncontaminated. It is much easier for a believer to be contaminated by a corrupted believer than it is for him to be contaminated by an outright unbeliever. When a person becomes a believer, he is a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17). Believers are an entirely different species and kind in the spirit realm. For example, suppose you have a goat and your goat is infected with the cold virus. In that case, it is very difficult to get infected with that virus because you're not of the same kind as the goat, but if a fellow human being you have close proximity with has a cold, you can easily contract the virus if you're not careful. In the same manner, if a believer interacts closely with a fellow believer who is infected with a spiritual virus of iniquity, he would very easily contract the spiritual virus if he is not careful.

Go into today meditating on these words:
1 Corinthians 5:11 (NET) But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who calls himself a Christian who is sexually immoral, or greedy, or an idolater, or verbally abusive, or a drunkard, or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.

2 Timothy 3:1 (NET) But understand this, that in the last days difficult times will come.

Demain received very weak recommendations from his supervisor even though he was the most hardworking in his unit. When Demian realized that he was being persecuted because he was a Christian, he was so discouraged that his faith started to waver. Hitherto, he was never taught that being a Christian would attract persecution from the world, but as he continued to learn the word of God and grow, he understood that difficult times did not mean the Lord did not care about him, in fact, they were the tools God used to make him mature (see James 1:1-4).

Ever since the last days began, the devil has been fighting desperately against God's people and agenda because he knows his time is short. He is fighting dirty.

The Lord has warned us sufficiently about the perils of these times, but if we don't remember the Lord's warning, the devil will be able to discourage us. It is difficult for God to use a discouraged person. As soon as Elijah got discouraged, he was instructed to anoint his replacement(see 1 Kings 19).

Go into today remembering that we are in the last days. Our salvation and glorification are nearer now than when we first believed. Do not let the devil get you to the point of discouragement.

Acts 2:17 (NET) ‘And in the last days it will be,’ God says, ‘that I will pour out my Spirit on all people, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

Stephanie was a drug addict before she met Seye who preached the gospel to her and started to disciple her. Stephanie's testimony was that through the power of the Holy Spirit, she was able to overcome an addiction that no doctor or rehab could help her overcome.

Before the last days, just anyone could not receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit. This was a special preserve for God's holy prophets who were descendants of Abraham. But according to scripture, one of the markers of the last days will be the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all people. Today, anyone anywhere can receive the Holy Spirit and become a member of God's family.

Every time a person is convicted and repents, that is the work of the Holy Spirit. The natural inclination of the heart of [fallen] man is not Godward. So when you see people repenting and having the desire to know the living true God, it is because of the active work of the Holy Spirit. It is because of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that the required number of people to occupy God's [vacant] thrones would come into his kingdom. When that number has reached its fullness, the Lord Jesus will return (Romans 11:25-26, Matthew 24:14). Jesus would not rule the universe alone when he returns. He would need functionaries who would be part of His government. The Holy Spirit has been in the world since Pentecost, gathering these functionaries.

One of the most important things the Holy Spirit is doing in the world today is to convict people and bring them to repentance. He is raising an army of God's sons who will rule and reign over God's creation for all eternity. By preaching the gospel and making disciples, We (the church) partner with Him to bring people into the kingdom so that the end will come for this current world order. This is how the Spirit and the bride say come(Rev 22:17).

Go into today remembering that it is because of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that any sinner can become a saint. Determine to cooperate with Him today to bring many people into the family of God.

Hebrews 1:1-2 (KJV) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds
When Ken desperately wanted to be governor, he was introduced to an occult secret society. He was told to make certain sacrifices in order to appeal to the gods of the land. He did so and won the election. He became governor, but the gods who gave him power were the ones who truly governed the territory. He was just their stooge. Those "gods of the land" were the governing principalities over that territory. These are angels subject to Satan the prince of this world.

When scripture refers to Satan as the prince of this world, it is because he is the ruler of those principalities that govern many territories of this world. The only territories they do not govern are those occupied by a formidable number of God's children who know how to let their light shine.

We see in today's Bible verses that we are in the last days because God has now spoken to us through His Son. The first coming of Jesus indicated the beginning of the end for the current world order headed by Satan.

This world was not designed to be governed by angels but by Adam(man). Angels ended up governing this present world order because Adam sinned, fell short of God's glory, and lost the capacity to govern the cosmos. Jesus, who is the last Adam, came first to be the way for people to be restored to God's glory. He would come again to take over the government of the world. We who abide in Him would rule and reign with Him for 1000 years over this present world, and forever and ever over the new heaven and the new earth that would come after the millennial reign. (see Revelation 20:4, Daniel 7:18, 27, 1 Corinthians 6:2-3, 2 Timothy 2:12, Matthew 19:28).

We are in the last days because Satan's time as ruler of this world is short(Revelation 12:12). These are the last days for the current world order.

Go into today remembering that It is foolish to invest your life into this present world order that is passing away. It is wise to invest your life into God's kingdom which will never pass away.

Are you living for the praise of this world or are you living for the praise of heaven?
