Nothing, But Enough

2 Kings 4:2 (KJV), “And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil."

This widow called a pot of oil nothing, and you'll agree with her because she needed to ransom her sons who were taken as slaves because of the debt their father owed. A pot of oil is certainly useless in this situation, yet, that was all she had.

The pot of oil was nothing before God stepped in, in like manner, all that you have are all nothing if God has not stepped in yet. Your certificates, qualifications, skills, and connections are all nothing, they'll never be good enough to ransom your soul or that of your loved ones.

In Mark 8:36-37 (KJV), Jesus says, “what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?".

What shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Nothing! All hope is not lost. Just like the widow In today's text did, if you will only commit your “nothing" to God, he'll make something great and beautiful out of it. He is able to save to the outermost (Hebrews 7:25); He will save any and everyone that will come to him.

Isaiah speaking of Jesus said, “a bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth (Isaiah 42:3 KJV).

Even if you're as weak and delicate as a bruised reed or an irritating, choking, smoking flask without light, Jesus will make a wonder out of you, if you will only commit yourself to him.

Go into today knowing that Jesus can take your nothing and make something great and beautiful out of it if you would only totally surrender to Him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I surrender all that I am and have to you, take it and use me for your glory. Amen!

Contentment, A Shield From False Prophets And Teachers

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2682
John 10:5 (KJV) “And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers."

After pastoring for 15 years, Pastor Joel visited another Pastor in town because he was not satisfied with the result of ministry; he wanted more power, crowd, and money. This Pastor took him to another Pastor who told him they'll be visiting a powerful Pastor in a village for special prayers together. On the said day, all the Pastors traveled to see the “powerful village Pastor" where something surprising happened. “What are all these?" Pastor Joel asked, “prayer tools" the other Pastors responded collectively. “Ah! Did you just call a python, bowls containing blood, and these other things prayer materials? Please let me go, I don't want your help any longer" Pastor Joel pleaded stammering.

Apostle Paul writing to Timothy said, “godliness with contentment is great gain" (1 Timothy 6:6). Contentment is the reason why a man will abide in his calling and not compare with others (1 Corinthians 7:20), and the reason why a man will leave father and mother, and cleave to his wife: the two becoming one flesh (Matthew 19:5). Without contentment, it is impossible to fulfill God's purpose one will not be satisfied with the portion allotted to him (see Matthew 25:24-25).

Whenever the handle of contentment is lost, people start hearing the voices of strangers (false prophets and teachers) and the aim is so that godliness can be lost.

Many who were once godly became ungodly when they heeded the voice of a stranger all because they couldn't wait for process; God's timing was too slow, so they decided to help themselves just like Pastor Joel did in our story.

Go into today knowing that the little that God has given you will please him if you work with it faithfully and he will reward you in due season.

Prayer: Father, please give me the grace to be contented with what you have given me in Jesus' name. Amen!

Jesus our High Priest

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2681
Hebrews 2:16-18 (KJV) For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Demian was so overwhelmed by his trials and temptations that he stopped attending student fellowship and was now inaccessible to his brethren. He became this way because he felt they did not understand him and would end up judging him. He was an only child who became mixed up in drug addiction quite early. He never felt loved until he met Grace who invited him to fellowship and he became really close to the brethren there. He started coming to fellowship and accepted the Lord Jesus, but certain things happened in the fellowship and carnal brethren manifested in such a way that he started feeling the whole thing(faith, fellowship) was a charade. But he had truly accepted the Lord Jesus and had established a solid relationship with Him.

One night he turned the TV to TBN and heard a preacher teaching from today's Bible verse. At that point, he realized that even though his brethren may not understand him, he had a high priest who understands him. From that point, he started talking to Jesus and making confessions from scripture. He noticed that each time he made a Confession and talked to the Lord, his soul was helped and his heart was relieved of the pressure and depression.

Demian was saved from the place of despair the devil wanted to send him into because he understood the priestly ministry of Jesus and related with Him from that standpoint.

Do you know that you have a high priest who understands you and wants to help you? Don't let the devil ever make you feel you're alone in the spirit realm, there are more on your side than against you. The angels of God far outnumber the principalities and powers that want you to fail.

Go into today remembering that the way you connect with the help of God is by coming to Jesus your high priest in Confession and surrender. Let him know exactly how it feels and ask Him to help you. Remember He shed His blood for you, so there's nothing he cannot do for you.

Prayer: Lord, help me never forget that you're on my side to help me and not condemn me. Please strengthen me to know your love and live an empowered life.

Costly Disobedience

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2680
1 Samuel 2:30 (KJV) “Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed".

In 1 Kings 13, the story of a young prophet was told, the Lord had given him a message to a king alongside certain instructions. He delivered the message but disobeyed the instructions. This cost him his life; he was killed by a lion, and he died before his prophecy was fulfilled.

Just like this prophet, many have shared their beautiful dreams and God-given visions with loved ones but didn't see them come to pass because they died. “Lord why?" This is the common question asked when such death occurs. Many would have asked the same question if the complete story of the young prophet weren't told, we wouldn't have known that his disobedience cost him his life.

From today's text, we saw how disobedience cost king Saul his dynasty, his life, and the lives of his family members eventually. This is how terrible disobedience is.

Usually, before a terrific accident, a calamity, or a failure happens, God gives his children instructions which are usually soft and gentle. He gives these warnings so that such calamities can be avoided.

Some may even call all calamities the will of God. A popular scripture used is, “the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord" Job 1:21. But, we know however that, the death of the young prophet in 1 Kings 13 wasn't God's will, neither was the loss of Saul's dynasty. Both were products of disobedience.

Go into today learning to know, hear and obey the voice of God because obedience to God's voice saves from destruction.

Prayer: Father, I ask that you help me to always obey you, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Baptized Into Christ 2

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2679
Galatians 3:16 (NET) Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture does not say, “and to the descendants,” referring to many, but “and to your descendant,” referring to one, who is Christ.

Segun broke free from spiritual slavery because he did not just believe in the Lord Jesus, he was baptized, and he understood the implications and power of the baptism. Many believers have not disconnected from the limitations of their old life because they have not yet been baptized into Christ even though they have believed.

Before John the Baptist started baptizing people for repentance, the Jews had a similar practice of immersing people in water for purification. When a gentile wanted to convert to Judaism and become a proselyte, one of the rituals he would go through for this process to be complete was immersion in water. This signified death to his old life of being a Gentile, and resurrection into his new life as a Jew. The practical outworking of this meant renouncing his former culture and traditions as a gentile and embracing the Jewish laws and traditions. Because of this foundation and understanding, it was easy for the Jews to understand what baptism meant. It meant death to the old life and resurrection to the new life of God's kingdom. If a person believes and is baptized into Christ, it means he has accepted Christ as His Lord and savior and renounced his former culture and traditions that contradict the way of Christ.

Go into today remembering that baptism into Christ is the way to permanently renounce the curses and blemishes of your old life, and receive the blessings and power of Christ. The blessings God promised Abraham was for him and Christ who would come as his descendant in the fullness of time. As a member of the body of Christ, you get to share in these blessings.

Prayer: Lord, help me renounce every way of the past and abide in you to the end.

Baptized Into Christ

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2678
Galatians 3:27-29 (NET) For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female – for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.

When Segun believed in the Lord Jesus and was baptized into Christ, he realized that he no longer had the old desire to steal the way he used to before he became a believer in the Lord Jesus. This was a wonder to him because before he accepted the Lord Jesus, he was a compulsive thief who had lost count of the things he had stolen. He stole so much that if it were possible, he would have stolen from himself.

Before Segun accepted Jesus and was baptized into Christ, he was a slave to sin, but because he was baptized into Christ, he was no more a slave to sin. This was possible because Segun accepted that Christ was now his all in all. He was willing to forsake his culture and identity and pick up the new identity and culture of Christ. He even changed his name from Ogunsegun to Peter Oluwasegun. He no longer primarily saw himself as a Yoruba man but as a Christian whose life and home had to be shaped by the Kingdom culture revealed in the Holy Scriptures.

From today's Bible verses, we can see that as many as were baptized into Christ have clothed themselves with Christ. It is instructive that today's Bible verse did not say "as many as believe in Christ" because being baptized into Christ is a step deeper than just believing in Christ. Baptism connotes death and burial; death to the old self; death to the old life and identity, and resurrection into the new life and identity of Christ.

One sign that a believer has been baptized into Christ is that there would be no more Jew nor Greek. This means that the cultural identity into which he was born would no longer define him. He would no longer primarily view himself through that lens. Paul who was a Jew among Jews before be believed said this in 1 Corinthians 9:20: “to the Jew, I became like a Jew to win them”. You will see from here that in truth, Paul no longer primarily viewed himself as a Jew but as a Christian. He was referring to Jews as "them" but referred to fellow Christians(many of whom were formerly Gentiles) as "us".

Many people have believed in Jesus but are still the same old person because they have not been baptized into Christ. They have not died to their old life and identity and received their new life and identity in Christ. They are still slaves to sin because they have not died to their old life and identity.

Go into today remembering that the only way you can discontinue the curses and blemishes of your old life and reap the blessings of being a member of the body of Christ is through baptism into Christ. This means death to your old life and identity and resurrection into the life and identity of Christ.

Confession: I am Christian. I am a member of the body of Christ. Christ is my life. He is my identity. He is my all in all.

Committed to the Truth

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2677
Ephesians 5:8-10 (NET) For you were at one time darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light – for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth – trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

When MMM(a very popular Ponzi scheme) came into Nigeria, I had the opportunity of being able to observe the outlook of two categories of believers close to me at the time. The first category was the believers who were enticed by its mouth-watering profit promise, but they were also very interested in knowing whether it was pleasing to God for them to join such a scheme. They somehow felt a check in their spirits concerning it so they spoke with people they felt would have more spiritual understanding concerning such matters because they sincerely wanted to know if joining it was pleasing to the Lord. The second category of believers were those who saw MMM as an opportunity to make quick money, and as their long-awaited answer to prayer. They did not want to know whether it was pleasing to God or not if they made money from it. Because of the possibility that it might not be pleasing to God, they were not interested in finding out whether joining such a scheme was pleasing to God. They did not truly love the Lord but they loved money more. God's opinion was not desired as long as they were going to make lots of money.

I have said time and time again that for me, one of the surest ways I can identify a true believer is how they respond to God's word when it contradicts their way of life or something they desire to do. In today's Bible verses, we see a functional definition of truth. It is trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Anyone who is truly saved is born of the Holy Spirit – the Spirit of Truth. Because the this, he has an inner desire to walk in the truth – to be ever more pleasing to the Lord. He will be committed to learning because he wants to learn more and more about what is pleasing the Lord (see Colossians 1:10).

Anyone that does not have the truth in him may be filled with religion, but is not particularly committed to pleasing the Lord. Such is primarily committed to pleasing himself. His god is actually his belly, and he minds earthly things(see Philippians 3:19). When you receive eternal life, you [should] also receive an eternal outlook on life. You begin to live and make all your choices with eternity in view, not just time.

Go into today remembering that commitment to pleasing the Lord in all things is the acid test of love for God. This is the way to know whether the truth is in you or you need to repent and give yourself to discipleship (see John 8:31-32).

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please guide me into all truth. Help me live a life that is continually pleasing to you, In Jesus' name. Amen.

Immune to False Prophets And Teachers

2 Timothy 3:15-17 (KJV) “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works"
Timothy had a godly grandmother and mother, because of this, he knew the holy scriptures as a child. He became so gifted in the things of God that he became the Pastor of a church with many people who were older than him, some of which could despise him. For this reason, Paul wrote, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee" (1 Timothy 4:12-16).

If you don't want to fall for the deception of false prophets and teachers, you must know the holy scriptures, give diligent attention to reading it, pay attention to exhortation (messages preached by balanced men of God) and pay the price of understanding doctrine. You also must not neglect the gifts of the Holy Spirit in you. If you do these, you will save yourself and those who hear you from the influence of false prophets and teachers.

You may be despised by some when you begin to pay attention to reading and living the word of God. But if you don't quit, you will be their Pastor when they're In trouble.

Go into today knowing that the secret to knowing the truth is understanding the holy Scriptures and the truth you know will make you free (John 8:31-32).

Prayer: Father, I ask in Jesus' name for grace to be a diligent student of the scriptures and one led by the spirit of God. Amen!

God Wants You To Know The Truth

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2675
Proverbs 23:23 (KJV), “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding."

“Apocalypse or what did they title the study? What will I gain from that? I won't go to hell for not knowing these mysterious and confusing things, so, why border me with it?" This was Doshima's conclusion after attending a Bible study on the book of Revelation.

How important is truth? Jesus said in John 8:32 (KJV), “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free". Truth is very important because it makes free.

Are there irrelevant truths in the Bible? According to 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV), “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works". No, no truth is irrelevant. If a child of God wants to be perfect and throughly furnished unto all good works, he must be willing to study every part of scripture.

How terrible is ignorance? Ephesians 4:18 says it keeps people in darkness, alienates them from God, and blinds others. Also in 1 Peter 2:15, we see that ignorance is one of the characteristics of foolish men.

Ignorance either obliterates sight so you can't see or weakens it, making you look down on what's good because you don't know its value. It is even worse when it exalts weaknesses because that's all it knows.

God, knowing how important truth is and how terrible ignorance is, admonishes that we buy the truth and sell it not. He wants us to go the extra mile looking for truth and one easy place to find it is on the pages of the scriptures; the whole library of books; every sentence, every line, and every word.

Go into today determined to study to show yourself approved into God.

Prayer: Father, I ask that you give me grace to study. Open my eyes to the truth and let the truth make me free in Jesus' name. Amen!

Filled with the knowledge of His will

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2674

Colossians 1:9 (NET) For this reason we also, from the day we heard about you, have not ceased praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding

Chris and Tomlin both accepted the Lord Jesus on the same day. Chris humbly submitted himself to discipleship and was accountable to the brethren who were discipling them while Tom was too proud to submit to anyone because he felt he was rich.

Two years passed and Chris was now spiritually mature, exercising authority over unclean spirits and walking in his dominion as a son of God. But Tom was still a spiritual baby whose life was filled with fear. He was regularly tormented by unclean spirits and this manifested in sicknesses and afflictions. Chris was the one who usually prayed for him and he would receive certain relief.

From the day apostle Paul heard of the faith of the Colossians, he didn't cease to pray for them that they would be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. He prayed this way because he understood that it was possible for people to believe, but yet remain spiritually unwise, not understanding the will of the Lord(Ephesians 5:17).

If the devil did not succeed in keeping people spiritually blind and hindering them from the light of the knowledge of God through Christ Jesus, he would do everything to keep them spiritually nearsighted so they won't understand [and walk in] the will of God, and as a result, walk shy of their allotted spiritual authority and benefits. Spiritually unwise believers don't pose too much of a threat to the devil and are not very useful in the hand of God.

This is the reason why after believing in the Lord Jesus, you need to become a disciple. A disciple is a student or apprentice, and in order for anyone to be an apprentice, he needs to humble himself and learn from those ahead of him. It is those who continue in Christ's word that are true disciples (see John 8:31-32). They are those that arrive at the knowledge of the truth and walk in spiritual liberty.

Go into today knowing that submitting to discipleship is the key to growing in the knowledge of the will of God. A proud heart cannot be discipled. The last time you learned and grew in the kingdom of God was the last time your heart was humble. Many believers have had stunted growth because they became proud and stopped learning when they saw spiritual gifts in their lives, etc.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please deliver me from every pride that hinders me from learning and growing in your kingdom. Help me walk in the fulness of your will for me. Amen.

Identifying False Prophets And Teachers

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2673

Deuteronomy 13:1-3 (KJV) “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul".

Ruth: Ayo, listen to me, that man is fake, he's false.

Ayo: No Ruth, he can't be, how can he be fake? He correctly predicted the score of a national football match, many sick are being healed and oh, he's such a benevolent giver. Do you call such fake? If he's fake, then I want to be fake too

Ruth: but he makes a Marchandise of the people, does he not sell miracle water and cloth? Doesn't he pray for unbelievers without caring whether they repent or not? What kind of true prophet does that?

From today's text, it is obvious that a man can be accurate with predictions and yet be false if the source of his insight is another god.

Please read this carefully, “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not (2 Peter 2:1-3 KJV).

If he teaches damnable heresies and denies the lordship of Christ, if the way of truth is being evil spoken of because of him and he doesn't care, and if he makes merchandise of his subject, such a one is false or fake and should not be followed or listened to.

Remember that Jesus said in Matthew 24:24 that, false prophets shall show great signs and wonders. So, if signs and wonders are your only criteria for identifying a true prophet, you will be deceived as prophesied by Jesus in Matthew 24:24.

Prayer: Father, I ask in the name of Jesus that, you please give me a discerning and steadfast heart. Help me never to fall prey to false prophets and teachers. Amen!

How Many False Prophets And Teachers Do You Know?

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2672

Matthew 7:15 (KJV), “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves."

“My son, make sure you don't go beyond our boundaries when cultivating the land”, Chief Chukwudi told Patrick his cousin who just arrived in the village. After hearing this, Patrick cleared a portion, cultivated and planted in it. After some months, one of the Chief's kinsmen came complaining, “Chief, why are you taking my inheritance away from me? Your son Patrick has encroached terribly on my plot of land". “Sorry, I will check", Chief Chukwudi responded. When Chief got to the farm, he found that the complaint was valid so he quickly called for Patrick. “Patrick, didn't I tell you not to go beyond the boundaries?" “Yes, you did, but I didn't know the boundaries, I never knew I went beyond it", Patrick responded. “You're right, you were only a child the last time you visited the village, I should have shown you the boundaries," said Chief.

The blame wasn't Patrick's because he wasn't shown the boundaries. Jesus however warned us about false prophets and teachers and showed us how to know them. So, if you fall prey to them, it will be your fault and not Jesus'.

But why should I concern myself about false prophets and teachers? Someone may ask. You should, because Jesus said, “beware of false prophets".

In Matthew 24:11 (KJV) Jesus says, “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many". In Matthew 24:24 (KJV), He warns again: “there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect" and in 1 Peter 2:1, we saw it being fulfilled; “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you...”.

If Jesus warned you against them, how many do you know? If you don't know any, you're either a victim already or about to be.

Go into today knowing that false prophets and teachers are not included in “touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm". They were never God's anointed!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, just like you warned, help me to beware of false prophets and teachers. Help me not to fall prey to them. Amen.

What is man?

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2671

Hebrews 2:6-9 (NET) Instead someone testified somewhere: “What is man that you think of him or the son of man that you care for him? You made him lower than the angels for a little while. You crowned him with glory and honor. You put all things under his control.” For when he put all things under his control, he left nothing outside of his control. At present we do not yet see all things under his control, but we see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by God’s grace he would experience death on behalf of everyone.

The way today's Bible verse started is quite unusual because normally when New Testament writers quote Old Testament writers, it usually would go like this:

Romans 11:9 (NET) And David says, “Let their table become a snare and trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them.
But that's not the case here. The Psalm from which the quote in Hebrews 2:6 above was taken is attributed to David(Psalm 8), and I'm sure the writer of Hebrews knew this very well, but he is saying here that 'someone testified somewhere'. This is quite unusual. There is no other place in the New Testament that uses this language in reference to Old Testament scripture.

Some have asserted that the quote is not credited to men but to angels, that it was a conversation between angels that was captured by the psalmist through the spirit of prophecy.

Maybe that's why the writer of Hebrews didn't attribute the quote to David but said "someone testified somewhere". Thinking about it critically, it makes sense for angels to be asking this all-important question: "[w]hat is Man?"
Seeing the way God (the creator and sustainer of all things) is mindful of man, it is an all-important question.

The way to decode scripture is with scripture and not with human worldly reasoning. If you read Psalm 8:4-6, and now read today's Bible verses, your understanding of Psalms 8:4-6 will be broader and much more accurate.

In today's Bible verses, we see the progression of the experiences of man. Man was made lower than the angels (this was because of the fall). But Man would be crowned with glory and honor, and God would put all things under man's control. But today, we do not yet see all things under man's control, but we see Jesus, who is a man, crowned with glory and honor. Today, Jesus is the only man with this stature of glory and honor, but during the resurrection, all His saints would receive this stature-- that includes you and me, if we hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the One who made the promise is trustworthy (see Hebrews 10:23).

Jesus is the only hope and lifeline through which Man can fulfill his eternal destiny of ruling over the universe with God, He is the only man that has overcome the powers that hinder Man from fulfilling his glorious destiny, and through Him, we who believe in Him are overcomers.

Go into today remembering that those who believe in [and abide in] Christ would get to fulfill man's glorious eternal destiny. This destiny is so glorious that human communication is not suitable enough to describe it (see 1 Corinthians 2:9).

Prayer: Thank you Lord for Your great plans for me. Please help me walk in them and please you in all things. Amen.

Vigilance mode activated

Click Here to Download the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/audio2670

1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour

When Ele traveled to the village during the Christmas holidays last year, it was amidst a lot of prayers and spiritual diligence. You see, she had come to know of the spiritual wickedness that existed in that village. She remembered the stories her grandmother told her about the escapades of the witches in that village; she remembered what they did to her second cousin who became temporarily insane because he visited the village and was careless.

While Ele was in the village, she was very vigilant and prayerful. She avoided unnecessary conversations and avoided arguments and quarrels. Things that normally would have got her angry were overlooked because she was in "vigilance mode". She refused to watch any movie that was not spiritually edifying, and she was always in a prayer mode.

Ele visited the village and came back to the city after the wedding she went to attend. She was unscathed and her spirit even became stronger while she was in the village for two weeks. During this period, her faith was stronger and she was even physically healthier than she had been in a long time. Her asthma inhaler was never touched for those two weeks (something she used to need to use almost on a daily basis).

Ele was sober and vigilant while she was in the village because she realized that she had enemies there who were looking for how to devour her. Her prayer and word life experienced a boost because of this. The truth is that every believer is to be as sober and vigilant as Ele was while she was in the village because as long as we dwell in this world, Satan, the prince of this world, is our adversary who roams around like a roaring lion seeking for whom to devour.

From today's Bible verse we see that we are to be in "vigilance mode" while we live our days in this world. This is the way to stay unscathed and even prosper, despite the roaming and roaring of the devil.

Being sober does not mean being afraid or anxious, it means being wise and intentional about dwelling in the presence of God and avoiding anything that could defile or weaken you spiritually.

Go into today remembering that the only way to pass through this world prosperously and unscathed as a child of the kingdom is for you to heed the warning of today's Bible verse.  Activate your vigilance mode and never deactivate it again.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to be sober and vigilant at all times. Help me never fall prey to the wickedness of the enemy, but rather prosper in their midst. Amen

The Key to Answered Prayers 2

Download Today's Audio here: https://bit.ly/audio2669

John 15:7-8 (NET) If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want, and it will be done for you. My Father is honored by this, that you bear much fruit and show that you are my disciples.

Ekene used to be very depressed and unhappy. He was always competing with his peer group from his village and did not have peace of mind. It wasn't until he accepted the Lord Jesus and was determined to abide in Him that he knew true peace of mind for the first time in his adult life. For the first time, he was committed to a church assembly and was accountable to the brethren there. He was also committed to living a life that pleases the Lord in all things and to grow in the knowledge of the Lord.

Ekene became a subject of the kingdom of God and started reaping the benefits of eternal life because he remained in Christ and did not go back to the world like all the previous times he had come out to receive the Lord Jesus. He also now started enjoying divine health and was one that now prayed and God answered his prayers.

Any believer who does not abide in the Lord would be unfruitful and this would not be the Lord's fault.
One reason why God answers our prayers and will do as we ask is that we too have been living under His authority and are doing as He commands. God does not respond to those who do not respond to Him in obedience.

As you go into the day, remember that you are not alone in this world if Christ is your Lord. Remember that the secret of your success now dwells in your connection to Christ and your meditation on His word.

Prayer: Lord, please help me remain in you and let your word rule my life. Empower me to be fruitful in every good work and please you in all regards.

The Blessedness Of Serving The Lord

Download Today's Audio here: https://bit.ly/audio2668
Luke 17:10 (NET) “So you too, when you have done everything you were commanded to do, should say, ‘We are slaves undeserving of special praise; we have only done what was our duty."
Many African countries suffered from the slave trade movement. During that period, once a man was sold out as a slave, he lost his identity and freedom. He couldn't own a property and could do only what his master wanted. Whenever he did contrary, he suffered horrible punishments, even painful death.

Those slaves were sold into slavery against their will, yet they went through that terrible ordeal. Man however sold himself into slavery by his own will when he committed treason against God in the garden of Eden. Through disobedience, man became a slave to sin and was condemned to death (Romans 6:16).

Jesus came however and bought us by his blood, giving his life as an exchange for ours and we became God's property. We also are to do the will of the one who bought us (our master), but with a big difference; God himself helps us to do what he wants (Philippians 2:13), making it impossible for us to fail if we allow Him to help us. This is great blessedness!

Another blessedness is the blessing of living above the power of curses and Satan and this is because curses and Satan will bow to us as long as God is working in us and we are submitted to Him(James 4:7, Like 10:19).

The third blessedness is that of rewards. Unlike the African slaves who couldn't own anything, God wants us to have all that Christ has (Matthew 6:33, 1 Corinthians 3:21-22), He wants us to be where He is (John 12:26) and He will reward us if we serve Him diligently (Hebrews 11:6).

You see, service to God is an opportunity to get blessed. Let this blessing change the way you respond to the opportunities you have to serve God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please give me the grace to serve you acceptably, so I can enjoy all the blessedness of serving you. Amen.

The Christian and the Law

Download Today's Audio here: https://bit.ly/aud2667

Ephesians 2:15 (NET)
...when he nullified in his flesh the law of commandments in decrees. He did this to create in himself one new man out of two, thus making peace

Christians are not under the 613 laws of Moses, nor are we even under the Ten Commandments. We are under THE LAW OF CHRIST.

1 Corinthians 9:21 (KJV)
To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the LAW [OF] CHRIST,) that I might gain them that are without law.

Galatians 6:2 (KJV)
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the LAW OF CHRIST.

Of the Ten Commandments, Jesus and His apostles reiterated nine and ignored that of the Sabbath (there are reasons for this, but that's not our topic today). The Lord gave other instructions that were not captured by the Law of Moses. Instructions like 'turn the other cheek’ or 'do not repay evil for evil’, etc, were not part of the Ten Commandments, but are part of the commandments of Christ (Law of Christ).

Anyone who has accepted Christ as His Lord will obey His commandments. For those who love Him keep His commandments (see John 14:15, John 14:21, John 15:10).

As for the matter of tithing, it is the prerogative of your church assembly. If they pay tithes in your church assembly, then you should pay tithes.

Just as with other matters like dress codes, you should obey the rules of your church assembly. And yes, it is rebellion (even before God) when a Christian disobeys the rules of his church assembly if those rules are not in violation of the law of Christ.

The last time I checked, tithing didn't violate any commandment of Christ. As a matter of fact, a time Jesus mentioned it, He didn't seem to discourage it (see Matthew 23:23).

Go into today knowing that grace is not a license to be lawless. Grace delivers people from the law of sin (and death) and brings them under the law of life (Rom 8:1-3).

Do Not Leave The Throne Of Grace

Download Today's Audio here: https://bit.ly/aud2665
Psalm 23:6 (KJV), “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."

Opeyemi became a child of God because submitting herself to God was the only way to being delivered. No lady in her family could get married; everyone who tried died. After consulting with many witch doctors and couldn't get delivered, she met a prophet of God who told her that “only Jesus can give her freedom", she accepted Jesus, got married, had children, and didn't die. After many years passed, her love for God waxed cold; she wouldn't attend church meetings regularly and couldn't remember the last time she had a serious time of fellowship with God. She noticed that the nightmares returned; sleep was now a great dread, three of her four children were involved in an accident but escaped narrowly death was everywhere around her. It was at this point that she began to fervently seek the face of God again. After she was restored, her troubles ceased.

Many believers are like Opeyemi. They are serious with God when in trouble, but as soon as they breathe the air of freedom, they'll abandon him until trouble shows up again.

Unlike these believers, who quit the throne of grace after enjoying God's goodness and mercy, the Psalmist in today's text chose to dwell there forever.

Because of the sacrifice of Jesus, we who have put our faith in God can dwell forever in the house of the Lord (throne of grace). But, this is a matter of decision. One believer may choose to visit only when in trouble and another like the Psalmist may choose to dwell there forever. But lasting freedom is guaranteed only for those who are dwelling in the house of the Lord (see Psalms 91).

Go into today knowing that if you won't quit the throne of grace, you will enjoy a never-ending supply of grace.

Prayer: I come boldly to the throne of grace today and I will never quit again in Jesus' name. Amen!

The Key to Answered Prayers

Download Today's Audio here: https://bit.ly/aud2664
John 15:7 (NET) If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want, and it will be done for you.

After Ekene believed in the Lord Jesus and submitted himself to discipleship, he was excited to learn the truth in John 15:7. He was excited because he knew that because he was now abiding in the Lord, there was nothing he requested that God was not going to give him. So he went ahead to ask the Lord for the dream car he had always fantasized about having. After waiting for the car to come for months, it became evident to him that the Lord was not going to grant that particular request at that time. He was quite confused so he decided to ask his pastor why God did not grant his request even though he was now abiding in Christ.

His pastor asked him a simple question that he knew he could not answer. "I know you're now abiding in the Lord and it is evident because you have repented and are now abiding in His church which is his body. But is His word truly abiding in you?"

Ekene knew that even though he could claim that he was now abiding in Christ, the word of Christ was not yet richly dwelling in him and he could not make claim to the promise of John 15:7. He thus was now determined to study the word, listen to sermons, read books - apply all diligence to fill his heart with the word of Christ ( Colossians 3:16).

What he observed as this happened was that his desires started changing. He observed that buying a Lamborghini was no longer a priority in his life. He now desired only the things that God desires and he realized that because his desires and the Lord's desires were now the same, it was easy for him to get his requests from God because they now aligned with His will.

God does not usually answer prayers that are outside His will (1 John 5:14). The surest way to get answered prayers is to ensure that your requests are within the ambit of God's will. The word of God is God's tool by which he sanctifies us and changes us into His nature so that his will naturally becomes our will. Any believer that does not give priority to building his life according to God's word will discover that many of his prayers will not be answered, and he will be unfruitful.

Go into today remembering that allowing the word of Christ to dwell in you richly is the only way to prosper in His kingdom. It is not an option for the believer, it is the only way to grow.

Prayer: Lord, from this day, help me give more priority to your word that I may become more like you. Deliver me from all the distractions that seek my affection.

Find Grace Before Trouble Comes

Download Today's Audio here: https://bit.ly/aud2663

Hebrews 4:15-16 (KJV) “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."

It had been seven years since Stephen believed, but he was still struggling with the same sins. He had cried, prayed, fasted, and confessed it to God and to brethren so many times, but It just didn't go away. At some point, he thought he wasn't genuinely born again, so he answered the call to rededicate his life to Jesus with the hope that the long-standing sin will be conquered, but, that also did not work. Since he'd tried all that he thought he knew, he gave up. “I'll never be able to overcome this sin, I'll just keep asking for forgiveness whenever I commit it", he concluded.

Many youngsters like Stephen have quit trying and others have found solace in false teachings that soothe their condition of defeat. Teachings that say things like: “sin is no longer a problem, it won't take a man to hell, because it's has been destroyed”

Can one truly be free from sin? Yes, because the Bible says so: “sin shall have no dominion over you" (Romans 6:14). But How do I come to this state?

From today's text, it is clear that both mercy and grace are available at the throne of grace. If you've ever been forgiven, it happened because you obtained God's mercy and that was possible because you accessed the throne of grace. Many, however, who obtained mercy at the throne of grace did not wait to find grace before leaving, thus, when the time of need arrived, they failed.

So, if all you get is forgiveness (mercy), you will fail again when confronted with the same sin or issue, because, mercy is God's distress response, it gets you out of distress on a ‘per time' basis. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Grace however must be obtained before the day of need or trouble. Grace gives the ability to resist sin and to overcome it. This ability must be learned, thus requiring time, unlike mercy, which is instantaneous. Remember that it is grace that teaches us how to live righteously, godly and sober lives in this present world(Titus 2:11-12), and time is needed if learning must be accomplished.

Go into today determined to remain at the throne of grace until you have found grace to help in time of need.

Prayer: Father, help me to wait upon you until the grace for my need comes in Jesus' name. Amen!

This One Will Last

Download Today's Audio here: https://bit.ly/aud2662
1 Corinthians 9:25 (NET) Each competitor must exercise self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.

Joe’s shoe had given way during the Camp Meeting. He was quite chagrined because this was the third footwear that had disappointed him so in the space of 12 months. This time around, he decided to go shoe-shopping with his friend Mayowa.

When they got to the shoe section of the market, every shoe seller was jostling for their patronage. Joe and Mayowa settled for the shop of the man with the widest smile. When they got inside, they saw shoes of all sizes and colors. Two particular pairs caught the eyes of Joe and the shop owner quickly took them off the rack for more close inspection by his customers. One was brown, made of leather with an adjustable strap. The other was black, shiny, and in good condition.

Upon inquiry, the shop owner stated the prizes of the shoes and Mayowa noted with surprise, that the brown shoes cost almost three times the cost of the black shoes. Joe was minded to go for the cheaper option when Mayowa leaned over holding the brown shoes and whispered into his ears: “But this one will last longer”.

You see, in life, more often than not, the more durable a thing is, the more valuable it is considered. This is why a man living with an eternal perspective is more likely to live more wisely as his sense of value will be impacted by his outlook. It is no wonder Jesus asked, “what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul” (See Mark 8:36-37), because Jesus understood that a man’s soul is more valuable than the riches the world has to offer, indeed, man will practically outlast this world.

This understanding will inspire the wisdom of self-control in your personal dealings. If you know this at a heart level, you will exercise restraint and not be quick to jump at every supposed gain this world advertises or promotes. You will relegate anxiety to the background and give yourself to the disciplines that the call of God demands.

There is an imperishable “gold medal” for those who run this race well; there is a crown for those who will be faithful to Jesus till the end. Go into today geared up to run this race exercising self-control over your desires and body until you win the crown because this one will last…forever.

Prayer: Lord, help me never forget that my soul is far more precious than anything this present world is offering (Mark 8:36-37). Help me to be faithful to the end.

A Blessed People

Download Today's Audio here: https://bit.ly/aud2661
Galatians 3:13-14 (NET) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.

Folake heard that there was a curse-breaking all-night service in a church down the street. Even though she had a very busy week, she was determined to attend the service and prayerfully rid herself of every generational curse and limitation in her life. She was not surprised when she got to the service and found the place packed full. When the preacher asked those who wanted to be free from curses to come out for prayers, practically everyone came out.

But after Folake accepted the Lord Jesus and gave herself to the sound teaching of the word, she understood that she had been redeemed from all curses and that she was now blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places because she was now a member of the body of Christ(see Ephesians 1:3). She also understood that abiding in Christ was the key to inheriting His blessings. As she started believing that she was blessed and confessing the blessings over her life regularly, she started practically walking in the manifestation of the blessing. Her health was restored and she now enjoyed God's favor, peace, and prosperity.

It is true that every other nation of the world is operating under the curse of the law because they are guilty of breaking the law of God, but if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away, and all things become new. Because you are in Christ, you are part of His new holy Nation. "[Y]ou are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9).

Go into today remembering that if you abide in Christ, you have been redeemed from every curse, and you are entitled to all of God's blessings. Remember that just like you may have been walking in the consciousness of curses, it is now more important for you to remember that you are blessed and walk in the consciousness of the blessing. The blessing is activated and appropriated by faith. Remind yourself every day that you are blessed and confess it. Confession is one of the basic actions of faith(see 2 Cor 4:13, Rom 10:19)

Prayer: Thank you Father for redeeming me from every curse. Please help me walk in the consciousness of my blessings and appropriate them in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Planting Season

Download Today's Audio here: https://bit.ly/aud2660
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 (NET) “For everything there is an appointed time, and an appropriate time for every activity in earth: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to uproot what was planted;”

Growing up in the village, harvesting season was usually one of the fun times in farming. I remember accompanying my grandmother and others to the farm to harvest yam. There is usually a small thatch hut in this farm, and after harvesting for a while, we get some fire going in the center of the farm where some yams are roasted and eaten with red oil mixed with freshly plucked pepper and salt. You can see how satisfied my grandparents are as the yams harvested keep swelling the barns close to the riverside. But all these would not be possible if we had done nothing during the planting season.

The natural things are usually a mirror of certain spiritual realities. The Bible instructs us in Ecclesiastes that there are seasons and appropriate times for every purpose on earth. Just as there is an appropriate time for planting certain crops in the year, likewise are there appropriate times for planting spiritual seeds on the earth.

For parenting, the formative years, 0 to 6 years, are the planting season and appropriate times for imbibing morals and inculcating home training in the child. For career, the appropriate time for getting an education is usually in one’s childhood and youthful years. For family life, the Bible talks about the wife of one’s youth, the youthful years are an appropriate season for starting a family.

However, when we begin to look at life with the eternal perspective, then we must come to the realization that our time on this earth represents our planting season. Jesus once told a parable of a man who planted wheat but while men slept, the enemy came to plant weed and he said to leave them to grow together until it was time for harvest. And by harvest time, he was referring to the time of his return and the subsequent judgment of the world.

Our time here on earth is when we plant and sow what we shall reap in and for all eternity. This time can be split into day and night; the youthful years and later years of one’s life. More productive planting is made in the day, so that when evening approaches, one can concentrate on consolidating the efforts of the morning, by nurturing, weeding, and watering the seed sown.

What are you doing with your planting season? When you do not take advantage of the planting season, you will reap sorrow and regrets.

Go into today determined to give yourself to fulfilling God’s plan for your life while it is day, for night comes when no man can plant. Harvest time beckons, get planting now.
