Genesis 31:10-12 (KJV), “And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled. And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I. And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee".

Matthew 2:13-14 (KJV) recorded one of Joseph's dreams as follows, “....behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt".

The instruction given to Joseph in this dream was straightforward and all he needed to do was obey, but Jacob's vision in today's text was not as straightforward.

How did Jacob know what to do with what he saw? He saw that “the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled" and his response was captured in Genesis 30:37-39 (KJV)

“And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink. And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted".

There is no way Jacob's dream would have been interpreted as Jacob did except by a supernatural help – the spirit of wisdom.

Are your dreams like Jacob's? You will need the spirit of wisdom to make the best of such dreams. So, the right thing to do is to wait on the giver of the dream (revelation) to give you the wisdom to interpret it.

Go into today remembering that the way to make the most of what God is showing you through dreams and visions is to wait on Him(in prayer) for the spirit of wisdom to rightly interpret them.

Genesis 30:37-39,43 (KJV) “And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. [38] And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink. [39] And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted. [43] And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses".

George had the gift of sight. Through dreams, he saw every major event of his life many months before they happened. He chronicled the dreams in his diaries. Regrettably, he never took advantage of his gift. In one such dream, he saw that he sold a plot of land and became exceedingly wealthy. Two weeks later, he had a financial need that promised to bring him shame and disgrace. In an effort to avoid this, he sold the only piece of land he owned, and the crisis was resolved.

Seven years after he had sold the plot of land, gold was discovered in that area. Just before mining began, everyone who owned a piece of land in that locality received a huge cash compensation, new land allocations, and a certain percentage of the product mined as long as the mining continued, thus becoming extremely wealthy.

George saw his dream come to pass but never partook of it because he had sold his own piece of land seven years earlier. He had enjoyed the gift of revelation but lacked wisdom.

In today's text, Jacob became wealthy because he had a dream and knew what to do with the dream:

Genesis 31:10 (KJV) “And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled".

Go into today asking the Lord for the spirit of wisdom, so you can know how to interpret and use what God is showing you.

The Surpassing Righteousness

Matthew 5:20 (NET) For I tell you, unless your righteousness goes beyond that of the experts in the law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Deryl wanted to live a life that pleases God. He understood that if a man walked righteously in the fear of the Lord, he would be pleasing to the Lord. He tried to live a holy sanctified life and avoided all appearances of evil. But in his heart, he knew that something was still wrong. He was not walking in the reality and power of the kingdom of heaven.

After several months of trying his best and inquiring what could be wrong, he had a dream that made him realize that he had little faith. He trusted more in his ability to obey God than in the faithfulness of Jesus to preserve him from falling. He was always afraid of failing because of this.

The Pharisees were one of the strictest sects of the then-Jewish religious world. They were very particular about their understanding and adherence to the law of God. As far as conditioning your flesh and mind to obey the requirements of the law of God was concerned, the Pharisees were at the top of the ladder. But their righteousness was based on trust in themselves to obey God, so it was floored. They had so disciplined themselves over so many years that they could muzzle their flesh and put it in subjection to their will which had been trained to obey God's law, but they had no way of dealing with the sinful nature of the heart.

Walking in holiness without understanding faith is a fruitless mission. In order for a believer to truly walk in God's holiness and reap the fruit of God's power, he must be grounded in faith. Righteousness by faith is always superior to righteousness by works [which is depending on one's ability to obey God]. If you stop depending on your ability and start trusting in the Lord Jesus as the reason why you will not fail, your faith will produce such true righteousness from within that the righteousness of the pharisee doesn’t even come close to.

Go into today remembering to trust in the faithfulness of Jesus as the reason why you will not fall.

Confession: I belong to Jesus and I obey Him. He is the reason why I will not fall but inherit The Kingdom at last.

John 17:17 (KJV)Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Fabian: Pastor, I don’t think I can ever be holy like you. I have been bad all my life. I have never loved anyone. My heart is full of immorality and I can’t help it. I am selfish, that’s how I’ve been for as long as I can remember. I don’t know how to make myself become holy.

Pastor: you are not the one who will sanctify yourself, God is the one who will sanctify you and make you holy. He sanctifies you through His truth.

The reason why you were unholy is that there are many things you believe that are not true; they are not God’s truth. As soon as you begin to believe and walk in God’s truth, it will sanctify you and make you Holy. God’s word is truth.

Fabian: I do not understand, sir.

Pastor: for example, one of the reasons you have not been able to conquer sin is because you believe it is impossible for you to conquer sin. Even though that was your reality as an unbeliever, now that you have received Christ, God’s truth is that you have power over sin. If you believe this truth, you will see the manifestation of this power in your life.

The more you align with God’s truth, the more holy you become. The way God sanctifies us is by His truth. His word is truth, it washes us from our filthiness and makes us clean.

Go into today knowing that the way to walk in holiness is not by depending on new rules, it is by feeding your spirit aggressively with the word of God. The Word changes the way you think and changes the way you behave.

Prayer: Father, sanctify me by your truth. Amen.

Exodus 9;19-20 (NIV) Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every person and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.’” Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside.

Our text today provides a very good analogy to illustrate the goodness and benevolence of God. In the background of this familiar story, they were on the seventh plague and Pharoah’s heart was yet hardened against God and his people and would simply not let them go.

However, you find an interesting detail here that although God’s servant, Moses, had proclaimed God’s righteous judgment of visiting the land with hail, he did not stop there. But rather, he went on to persuade them to take cover for themselves and their livestock so they can be safe from the hail. Does this sound familiar to you?

We sinned. The just penalty for sin sadly is death, and God is the righteous Judge and would not subvert justice. However, he takes no pleasure in the death of a sinner (See Ezekiel 18:23), and therefore, even though He is right in carrying out justice and is even the wronged party against whom we rebelled in sin, YET, he took it upon himself not only to pay for our sin, but also to mobilize His Kingdom resources to announce to us that there is safety and salvation to be had from the death and destruction that is to come.

You see, in our case, he does not just merely say, ‘Take Cover’, but took the extra step to provide the covering Himself. Indeed, the Psalmist described a certain blessedness thus: “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.” (Psalms 32:1).

Further down our text says that servants of Pharoah who feared God heeded Moses’ warning and instructions and were saved. There is an ever-present call today from the Lord Jesus, saying, ‘Take Cover…In Me’. “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12 ESV).

The critical question today is, have you found ‘cover’ yet? Have you been to Jesus for Salvation?

If you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT).

You can find Safety today.

Haggai 2:12-13 (NET) If someone carries holy meat in a fold of his garment and that fold touches bread, a boiled dish, wine, olive oil, or any other food, will that item become holy?’” The priests answered, “It will not.” Then Haggai asked, “If a person who is ritually unclean because of touching a dead body comes in contact with one of these items, will it become unclean?” The priests answered, “It will be unclean.”

Jide wondered why each time he spent time with his old friends (who were unbelievers), he came back spiritually weaker and was more susceptible to spiritual attacks and falling into temptations.

He always assumed that his contact with unbelievers should help further sanctify them, and not the other way round. But his experience made him realize that his assumption was wrong.

Today's Bible verses reveal a very profound but fundamental spiritual principle. Here the Lord told Prophet Haggai to ask the priests if contact with a Holy thing made other things holy. The answer was no. But it was revealed that contact with defiled things makes undefiled things become defiled. This is a principle that God’s people in the time of Haggai needed to remember, and it is a principle God’s people need to remember today.

Mixing clean clothes and dirty ones doesn't make dirty clothes clean, it would only dirty clean clothes.

Go into today remembering that you are not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers (see 2 Cor 6:14, James 4:4). This does not mean you are not to talk to them, be helpful to them or work with them. This means you are not to make unbelievers your close friends and confidants with who you share matters of your heart.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live a sanctified life. Amen.

Walking in your gift

Romans 4:16 (NET) For this reason it is by faith so that it may be by grace...

Demola knew that he had the gift of teaching and imparting knowledge. He understood that this was the measure of Christ's gift that he had received(see Ephesians 4:7). He was not anxious about imparting knowledge because he knew he had a special ability from God to do so. With time, he came to observe that whenever he doubted his ability to impart knowledge, he struggled to access the grace that God had given him to teach, but whenever his faith was unshaken, he taught excellently, by the empowerment of grace.

In Demela's case, it was the grace to impart knowledge. For someone else, it may be the grace to be an excellent engineer, a fashion designer, a plumber, a surgeon, an evangelist, a prophet, etc.

Every provision of God's grace can only be accessed through faith(Romans 12:3, Ephesians 2:8). It cannot be accessed any other way. If God has told you that he has given you a particular grace, believe it and expect to see that grace manifest in your life.

Because faith(believing) always has attendant actions, look out for the disciplines and actions of faith that would help boost your faith to walk in that grace.

The advantage of cultivating fellowship with the Lord (through His word and Prayer) is that you will get to hear His voice and accurately know the specific graces he has given you and the timing for their manifestations. A robust relationship with the Lord will also help you understand the disciplines that will help boost your faith for that grace to manifest consistently.

Go into today remembering that faith is the way by which the grace of God is accessed. If you have been given a grace, believe that you have it and expect it to manifest. This is how we excel as God's people in this world.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me understand my gift and help me walk in it.

Accomplish holiness

2 Corinthians 6:18- 7:1(NET)”...I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,” says the All-Powerful Lord. Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that could defile the body and the spirit, and thus accomplish holiness out of reverence for God.

Henry: We have been praying about this matter for weeks. But you just showed up yesterday and prayed and everything changed. What's your secret?

Demian: I walk in my sonship as a child of God.

Henry: But we too are children of God. Why is your own special? What is the secret to the special sonship?

Demian: The secret is holiness. Ever since I became more dedicated and consecrated to God, I observed that I could walk more in God’s power.

We can see from today's scripture that in order to walk in the promises of God for us as His sons and daughters, there is a need for us to be holy. If a believer does not accomplish holiness, he would not be able to appropriate most of the promises of God for him.

How then do we accomplish holiness? The first step is to cleanse ourselves from what defiles. These include places, people, and practices. A believer who still fellowships with unbelievers has not cleaned himself from defilement because he will be defiled through his fellowship with them. The most potent temples and shrines are the mobile ones - - people. Just like you are a temple of the living God, an unbeliever is a shrine of the spirit that controls him, whether it be lust, greed, or pride.

Go into today remembering that in order for you to walk in the great promises of God concerning you, you have to walk in holiness.

Prayer: Lord, help me walk more in Your holiness and experience more of Your power and glory.

Faith and perseverance

Hebrews 6:15 (NET) And so by persevering, Abraham inherited the promise.

For many years, Abraham walked with the Lord and all he had was hope. His major expectation from the Lord was still pending, but He remained patient and persevered till the fulfillment of the promise. Isaac was born as the child of promise. This was proof to Him that every other [eternal] promise was already his.

What would have happened if Abraham stopped persevering? He would have gone back to Haran. He would have stopped living as a sojourner in other people's land and gone back home where he too was a landlord. History has it that his hometown was far more developed than the places he was sojourning in. He had to put up with a lot of uncivilized men who didn't fear the Lord.

As you walk with the Lord and you discover His promises(through His word and in the place of fellowship with Him), you may experience the trial of faith and have a long wait period. In this period, either you develop patience which will make you spiritually mature(see James 1:3-4), or you give up and drawback. When a man draws back it means his heart has gone back to the world. He has gone back to Haran.

One of the major attributes of true faith is patience and faithfulness. This is continuing in doing what is right even though the promises may appear to tarry.

Go into today remembering that if you continue diligently in faith and patience, you will see the fulfillment of all that God has promised you.

Prayer: Lord, help me never to drawback. Help me remain in you and be fruitful.

Faith and Diligence

Hebrews 6:12 (KJV) That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Patience became very diligent and disciplined because of the people she was following. They were those who through faith and patience had inherited certain manifestations of God's promises. She observed that they all had one thing in common, they were all very diligent people.

It is not possible to be a person of faith to the point of inheriting the promises of God in your life without being a person of great diligence. Scripture reveals that God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him(Hebrews 11:6). If diligence is not added to your pursuit of God, it might not be fruitful.

The easiest way to learn and become diligent is by following a diligent person. Diligence is a virtue that can be learned through followership. One of the surest places you'll find diligence is in the life of a person of faith. A man of faith is a faithful man, and a faithful man will be diligent and consistent.

The thing about diligence is that one continues to do certain things even when there's no instant gratification. He understands that if he continues in those things, there would be a reward at the end. That's how faith is too. A man of faith understands that his life of faith is not for nothing. He has a hope that propels his actions of faith. Faith is indeed the substance of things hoped for, and faith without action is dead (James 2:26).

Go into today remembering that one sign of true and living faith is diligence. “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” Proverbs 22:29,

Prayer: Father, I ask for and receive grace for greater diligence, in Jesus’ name. Amen. Proverbs 22:29, Hebrews 11:6.

The antidote to slothfulness

Broadcast 3611

If you wish to start getting Streamglobe Devotional Text & Audio early every day, Click on a link below to join our Group on these platforms:

Hebrews 6:12 (KJV) That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Patience and Precious were close friends in the university, but Patience was diligent while Precious was slothful. This showed even in the way they dressed and in their academic performance in school. One thing Patience observed about Precious was that unlike her, Precious had no mentors or people she aspired to be like. Patience on the other hand had mentors and people she was following. Because of this, she studied their lives and disciplines and unconsciously imbibed the culture of diligence from them.

Today's Bible Reading is very instructive. It says we should not be slothful but followers of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. The antidote to slothfulness is followership. A man who follows cannot be slothful because following puts you in a frame of mind that gives no room for slothfulness. When the children of Israel were following the cloud in the wilderness, do you think they could relax aimlessly while knowing that at any time, the cloud would move and they would have to follow? Following someone does something to your psyche; It delivers from slothfulness which is a natural tendency(work) of the flesh.

Go into today remembering that even our Lord Jesus had who He was following. Everything Jesus did and said was the result of the orchestration of His Heavenly Father(see John 5:19-20). Bringing yourself under accountability puts you in a frame of mind that excludes slothfulness.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to be faithful and diligent in all I do. Deliver me from every pride in Jesus' name. Amen.

Living for Pleasure

Broadcast 3611

If you wish to start getting Streamglobe Devotional Text & Audio early every day, Click on a link below to join our Group on these platforms:

1 Timothy 5:5-6 (NET) But the one who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives.
Shehu did not abide but went back to the world because he was lured by fleshly pleasures. Before he accepted the Lord Jesus, he was addicted to drugs and other dirty habits that gave pleasure to the flesh. After he believed, he left those habits, but later went back to them because he wasn't properly discipled and didn't know how to create the atmosphere of grace around him that would suffocate the spirits of lust-- his best friends were still unbelievers.

Romans 8:13 reveals that if a believer lives according to the flesh, he will die.

The thing about living according to the flesh is that the believer has become one that lives for fleshly pleasure. Living for fleshly pleasure produces spiritual death (see today's Bible verse). A spiritually dead believer is as disconnected from God as an unbeliever. He is open to satanic manipulations and assaults and no longer enjoys the communion of the Holy Spirit. This is one of the saddest things that happen on earth. It will never happen to you in Jesus' name.

Go into today remembering that believers who indulge in [sinful] pleasure are toiling with spiritual death. The only way to overcome the power and chains of sinful pleasure is by the power of the Holy Spirit. This power is activated when we give ourselves consistently and intentionally to prayer and the word. By praying in the spirit, our spirits are charged with grace and this even affects and strengthens our mortal bodies (see Romans 8:11). On the other hand, our souls (mind: thoughts, desires, imaginations) are brought under the subjection of God's Spirit and power when we give ourselves intentionally and consistently to the sincere word of God. Jesus says His words are spirit and life (see John 6:63).

Prayer: Lord, deliver me from the trap of sinful fleshly pleasures. I ask that you help me live for you and please you in all things. Amen.
Confession: I'm of God. I don't live for sinful pleasure, I live to please Christ, and I am fruitful in every good work. Amen.

1 Corinthians 3:9, 13-14 (NET) We are coworkers belonging to God. You are God’s field, God’s building. Each builder’s work will be plainly seen, for the Day will make it clear, because it will be revealed by fire. And the fire will test what kind of work each has done. If what someone has built survives, he will receive a reward.

It is going to be very painful on that day for some because they will realize that all their lives work here on earth has amounted to nothing and they will not be rewarded. It will be particularly painful because they will see others receive their reward and placed in higher levels than them in the eternal kingdom.

We will be rewarded with authority and crowns. We will be given territories to govern because princes govern territories. I believe that the size of your territory will be determined by the size of your reward. We know that the twelve apostles of the lamb will be given the choicest part of the His [earthly] kingdom to govern. They will rule from the headquarters (Jerusalem) with the Lord (see Mat 19:28, Rev 21:14). The rest of the world, and indeed the universe, will be to the rest of us to rule. We will inherit it all because all that Christ inherits is ours. We are joint heirs with the Lord.

What makes a person’s work here on earth not to survive if tested on that day is if the work is of inferior quality. We saw yesterday that what makes your kingdom work of superior quality is the degree to which it brings and converts people to Christ. Many people have built their ministries around themselves and forgotten that they are only servants, and the people do not belong to them. The kingdom of God is centered on Christ; He is the foundation and also the chief cornerstone.

Go into today remembering that your kingdom work here on earth will determine your kingdom ranking for eternity.

1 Corinthians 3:11-12 (NET) For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. 12 Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw.

Tosin believed that God had called her to minister healing to the sick. She had the spiritual gift of healing and manifestation of the prophetic, and her ministry was all about her spiritual gifts. However, unfortunately, she would minister healing to many sick people without bringing them to the knowledge of Christ. Even the believers who were in her ministry were not growing to become more like Christ. Because there were more and more people showing up every week, Tosin believed she was building accordingly, but one day she had a dream and saw that she had been building with hay since the day she started ministry.

Jesus Christ is the foundation of our faith. We cannot be Christians without Christ. Our goal as Christians is to become like Christ. As we grow spiritually, we grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ.

Any kingdom work you do cannot count if it is not built on the foundation of Christ. This means in the final analysis, everything your ministry seeks to establish is Christ in the lives of people- That Christ may be formed in them (see Gal 4:19).

Whatever your vision may be in ministry, never forget that it must be about Christ- it must be about people growing and becoming more like Christ. It must be about establishing the Lordship and righteousness of Christ everywhere. It must never be about anything else (see 1 Cor 2:1-2).

The more Christ-centric a ministry is, the more precious the material used by the builder (minister).

Go into today asking the Lord to help you build with gold and precious materials.

The Hope of the Believer

1 Corinthians 15:19 (KJV) If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
When Charles became a believer in the Lord Jesus, he was already making a lot of money from being a fraudster. He was already driving a brand new Mercedes Benz and had started building his first house while still a teenager in his second year on campus.

But he accepted the Lord Jesus and knew he had to forsake that life of fraud. He left the life of fraud because of hope in Christ. He understood that there was nothing of this world that was too big to give up for inheriting the kingdom of God. He knew he could not continue in his life of sin and inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor 6:9-10). Because of sound teaching, he knew that all the wealth in this world put together was not sufficient to pay for the eternal glory of God’s eternal kingdom that he was called to inherit. But he also knew that this hope that made him forsake his ungodly wealth was not in this life of flesh and blood but in the life that is to come.

For Charles, if his hope in Christ was only in this life, he would have been most miserable because he forsook a life of affluence and embraced the kingdom life of selflessness and sacrifice.

Believers in Christ are those who set their affection on things above and not on things of this world (see Col 3:2). This doesn't mean believers would not be relevant in this world. The more we focus on God's kingdom and set our affection on things above, the more relevant and impactful we would be in this world because that is when our light would shine.

Go into today remembering that as a believer in Christ, most of our hope is towards the eternal glory that would shine brighter even when all the glories of this world have failed and expired.

Some fruits of false teachings

1 Timothy 6:3-4 (NET)If someone spreads false teachings and does not agree with sound words (that is, those of our Lord Jesus Christ) and with the teaching that accords with godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in controversies and verbal disputes. This gives rise to envy, dissension, slanders, evil suspicions
Before Charles met some sound believers on campus and became a believer in the Lord Jesus, he did not like charismatic Christians at all. He was not interested in being a believer because of his elder sister. Before she started attending a certain charismatic church, she used to be “nice” and “normal”. But as soon as she started attending that church, she became very suspicious. She would pray in tongues with fear, sprinkle anointing oil on even cockroaches and say "no one knows how they (my enemies) can come".
She wouldn't travel anymore to the village because of fear, and she became very stingy because she said she didn't want anyone to use her gifts and money as an evil point of contact against her.

Even though she became a believer, these manifestations of fear and suspicion in her life were a product of false teachings. Some fruits to show that a believer has been feeding on false doctrines is that he becomes more fearful and suspicious.

Sound doctrine should build faith, courage, and strength in your heart. It shouldn't make you more fearful or suspicious. Even though we are to be sober and vigilant (by being prayerful), believers are never to be more fearful than unbelievers. Unbelievers should look up to us when they are afraid because we are the ones serving the living God.

Go into today remembering that God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind (see 2 Tim 1:7).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please deliver me from every spirit of fear. Please fill me with your Spirit of power, love, and self-control. Amen.

The fight of faith 2

Ephesians 6:16 (KJV) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

I once had an interaction with a young man, and I noticed that he knew the things of the Lord and seemed to have some spiritual understanding. I wondered why he was living like an unbeliever. I asked him and he replied and said to me ‘I trusted God once but He failed me’. It was clear he was now living a life that was rebellious to God’s authority. I started praying for him since then. He was a casualty of spiritual warfare.

Spiritual warfare is really about the faith of the believer. It is not about any other mundane thing that may look like the focus of the attack. The devil is not threatened by the amount of money or anything else you can have, but he is threatened by your faith. It is most precious (1 Pet 1:7).

When Satan attacked Job’s family, wealth, health, etc. the aim was to get Job to stop trusting in God, and as a result, get him to rebel against God’s authority; to curse God and die (Job 2:9). But Job kept the faith. He said ‘though He slays me, yet I will trust in Him’ (Job 13:15). And at the end, Job overcame.

Why does the devil seek to attack believers with setbacks? It is because he wants to get them to the point where they no longer trust in God, and as a result, they rebel against God’s authority. This rebellion manifests in compromises, sins, etc.

The way to always overcome is to keep your shield of faith up. That means no matter what, you insist on believing in God and confessing His word concerning your life and situation.

As long as the shield of faith is up, you will always be the overcomer (Eph 6:16).

Go into today remembering that every spiritual battle is about your faith first. Keep your faith intact and you will always overcome (see 1 John 5:4).

The fight of faith

1 Timothy 1:18-19 (NET) I put this charge before you, Timothy my child, in keeping with the prophecies once spoken about you, in order that with such encouragement you may fight the good fight. 19 To do this you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck in regard to the faith.

During the season Ameh was going through a trial of faith, there was a particular period that his faith was really low. During this period he observed that he even started doubting the existence of God, despite all the remarkable acts of God he had experienced in the past. He couldn't understand this, but all he could do was to continue to pray and dwell on God's word. Each time he prayed in the spirit, he observed that his faith was boosted a little.

He started investigating what was wrong: ‘why this strange drought of faith? ‘

He later found out that it was because, at that time, he allowed a guilty conscience linger. There was something he did that made him feel guilty, and he felt this guilt for a long time without addressing it appropriately.

One of the strongest forces against our faith is a guilty conscience. With a guilty conscience, our spirits cannot fellowship with God, and this fellowship is the source of our strength. Those who allow their consciences to be violated for long risk having a shipwreck of faith (see 1 Tim 1:19).

One of the major signs that your faith is sinking is that you will begin to doubt the willingness and ability of God to help you. This ultimately leads to doubting the existence of God.

Go into today knowing that you are to avoid anything that leads to the constant violating of your conscience.

Prayer: ask the Lord to help you always maintain a clear conscience before God and before men (see Acts 24:16)

No Condemnation

Romans 8:1‭-‬2 (AMPC) Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit. [John 3:18.] For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death.

Uche couldn't walk in the power of God because he lived under the spirit of condemnation. He had tried several times to quote Romans 8:1, but he was still under condemnation in his heart of hearts because he was not abiding in Christ. Even though he was very regular in church meetings, he had gone back to the world. He had gone back to his worldly friends and family members. He had gone back to his old way of doing things, but for a few exceptions.

Today's Bible verse is one very powerful and important scripture that every believer must know and understand. But this truth of no condemnation only applies to those who are in Christ Jesus.

What does it mean to be in Christ Jesus? It means to believe in the Lord Jesus and Abide in Him. Believing means accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord(Master) and savior. It means you surrender the ownership and control of your life to the Lord Jesus. If Jesus has truly become your Lord, His will and Word will rule your life. The reason why we repent when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior is because we have submitted to new management, and everything in us and about us that was contrary to His way of doing things has to change.

What does it mean to abide in the Lord Jesus? It means to remain in Him and not go back to the world; your old manner of life. It means to abide in the church (which is His body) and be submitted to the authority of Christ through His church and be accountable to your Christian brothers and sisters.

Those who abide in Christ are those who are said to be in Christ, and there is no condemnation for them, only blessings. They walk in the light as He is in the light, they have fellowship with their Christian brethren, and the blood of Jesus cleanses them from all sin (1 John 1:7).

The devil's chief weapon against people is condemnation and a guilty conscience. With it, a believer cannot overcome the devil and would not be able to appropriate the grace and power of God that has been made freely available to him. The reason why those who will overcome the devil will do so by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony is that the blood of Jesus is our answer to the accusations of Satan. When the devil reminds you of a sin that you have repented of, remind him of the cross and the blood of Jesus. He has no answer to that. Jesus was crucified as the penalty for your sins. He has already paid for your sins on the cross. The reason the devil sends accusations against us is that he wants us to suffer for our past sins, but for those who are in Christ, Jesus has already suffered and paid for their sins.

Go into today thanking the Lord because there is no condemnation for you if you are Christ Jesus.

The Resurrection 2

1 Corinthians 15:12-13 (KJV)Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen

It surprises me that there are some people who say that they believe that there will be a resurrection of the dead, but they don't believe that Christ was raised from the dead nor was He the Son of God. I find it hard to believe that such people truly believe in the resurrection.

The reason believers in Christ Jesus believe in the resurrection is because we also believe that our Lord and Savior resurrected bodily, and because he resurrected, we as members of His body are assured that we too will resurrect. The same scriptures that foretold His death, burial, and resurrection also say we too would resurrect (see Isaiah 53:3-6, Psalm 16:10, Psalm 22:7-8, 18, 16, 31, Job 19:25-26, etc). Since Christ truly died and resurrected (according to what the scriptures foretold), we too would resurrect like Christ (according to what the scriptures foretell).

For a person who does not believe that the Lord resurrected, there is no basis for him believing that he would resurrect.

Go into today remembering that without the teaching and understanding about the resurrection, your gospel is not complete (see 1 Corinthians 15:1-22). It is because of an understanding of this truth that believers can live holy contented lives in this present world. It is because of the understanding of the glory that the resurrection would reveal in us that believers do not serve mammon like the rest of the world.

The devil has been trying since the beginning of the church to obscure this truth from the believers because he knows the power this truth activates.

Prayer: Pray for yourself and for the Christians in your nation, that the truth of the full gospel will bring divine transformation.

Faith or risk?

1 John 5:14 (KJV) And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.

Jide grew up very poor so one of his greatest desires in life was to become very rich and powerful. He wanted to own the biggest house in his village and drive the most expensive cars.

When he realized that through faith, people could receive things from the Lord, he decided to begin to apply faith toward his dream of riches. He took many risks. There were times he wouldn't eat properly because he had given all his money in hopes that he would receive the kind of riches he wanted from the Lord.

Jide didn't receive the riches he expected from the Lord. He later found out that it wasn’t that God didn’t want to make him rich, but his motive for asking was wrong, it was pride of life. God does not reward bad motives.

For your faith not to be you just taking risks, your faith has to be based on the word and will of God. If there is anything to learn about God's predestination, it is that God doesn't do anything He never first planned to do.

The power of God would not work to furnish your pride or massage your ego, it would work to fulfill God's word and do His will. The onus is on us to ensure we are found within His will.

When dealing with God, your motive and the state of your heart is very important. God would rather give you something simply because you ask and desire it than give it to you to furnish your pride and lust (see James 4:3).

One of the most effective ways of asking and receiving from the Lord is to factor your request within the context of what you are sure is God's will for you.

Go into today remembering that God's will is superior to your faith, and God would not do anything against His will. Ensure that your faith always aligns with God’s will so that it would be fruitful.

Matthew 23:11-12 (KJV) But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

When Osimhen got baptized in the Holy Ghost, he knew he was to be a servant of God. As he grew in spiritual understanding, he realized that people could be great in the kingdom and this greatness had its attendant benefits. What Osimhen did not understand was that the way to kingdom greatness was humility and service. He wanted to be a servant of God, but he did not want to serve but be in charge and be served.

He was frustrated because even though he fasted and prayed a lot, he knew he was not growing in kingdom authority and greatness. He gave himself great titles, but within him, he knew that he was not great.

He cried to the Lord one morning after some things happened that reminded him of how low his spiritual state was. In answer to his prayer, the Lord orchestrated his steps until came in contact with a sermon that changed his perspective and transformed his life. His perspective of ministry changed from that of a person who sought to get to someone who sought to give and serve.

In the kingdom of God, greatness is attained through service. You grow the ranks as you serve, and it is impossible to serve acceptably without humility. A man who has the mind to rule will not attain greatness in the kingdom of God, but a man who has the mind to serve will.

Go into today, asking the Lord to purify your motives and help you serve acceptably. Remember, you are destined for greatness, and having a heart that gives and serves is the way to this greatness.

Romans 8:23‭-‬24 (AMPC) And not only the creation, but we ourselves too, who have and enjoy the firstfruits of the [Holy] Spirit [a foretaste of the blissful things to come] groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies [from sensuality and the grave, which will reveal] our adoption (our manifestation as God's sons). For in [this] hope we were saved. But hope [the object of] which is seen is not hope. For how can one hope for what he already sees?

After Lara prospered beyond her imagination and started dealing with some very wealthy people who did not know or fear the Lord, she started having a crisis of faith because her faith was on shaky foundations. All her expectations and hope from the Lord were for material prosperity and settlement, but as she started dealing with people with so much more prosperity who did not care about God, her faith almost seemed useless.

In Hebrews 6:1-2, we see that the resurrection of the dead is one of the foundational truths of the Christian faith. If this doctrine is not properly understood by a believer, at some point in his journey, he might run into the crises that Lara had.

The teaching about the resurrection of the dead reveals to the believer that when the Lord returns, our bodies [of shame] would be changed to glorified bodies. The dead in Christ will rise first, and then we which are alive and remain will be caught up together with them(1 Thess 4:16). As today's Bible verse teaches, this resurrection of the dead is what will reveal our true nature as sons of God. We would walk the earth with great power and glory and would rule and reign with the Lord Jesus for a thousand years on the earth (see Revelation 20:1-6). It is when this resurrection happens that the whole of creation will be set free from the bondage of corruption. That would be the reason a wolf and a lamb would be able to sleep on the same field together(see Isaiah 11:6). There would no longer be wild animals, and the elements would stop misbehaving and acting out in earthquakes, floods, storms, etc.

In this hope have we been saved. The appearing of our Lord and the resurrection of the dead is the blessed hope of our calling as children of God(See Titus 2:13). Any believer who does not understand this doctrine would have his faith on very shaky ground. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. When the hope that produces faith is shallow, the faith will be shallow and unable to stand the test of time.

Go into today remembering that the appearing of the Lord and the resurrection of the dead is the Blessed Hope of the believer. This is when it would be very clear that those who followed the Lord were the wise ones.
Prayer: Father, help me live my life with the kingdom of God as my focus, In Jesus' name. Amen.

Cast not your pearls before swine 2

Matthew 7:5-6 (KJV)Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Mr. and Mrs. Akowe were Marriage ministers who had a very great track record of success. They had seen the Lord use them to restore many wounded and broken marriages in the church.

But they recently discovered that they were no longer fruitful in their ministry.

As they waited on the Lord to know why they were no longer succeeding in healing marriages through their ministry, they discovered that it was because they were now hypocrites who refused to remove the beam in their own eyes. There was now deep-rooted recentness they had towards each other, but they both covered it up and continued with the ministry. This was the reason they were no longer fruitful.

In today's verses, the Lord says we should first cast out the beam from our own eyes before we can see clearly to cast out the mote in our brother's eyes. He then goes on to say that we should not give that which is holy to dogs and our pearls to swine. There are a number of lessons here:

One is that it is impossible for a hypocritical believer to successfully remove the impurities and specs in the life of another believer. It’s a spiritual principle. See 2 Corinthians 10:6.

Before you begin to attempt to help remove the mote in your Christian Brother or sister’s eye, you must be sure that the one in your eye has been removed or you would not succeed in helping.

Another lesson is that the person whose eye you are to remove the spec from should be your [Christian] brother, not an outsider. Outside are the dogs (Rev 22:15).

In removing the mote from your brother’s eyes, you are giving that which is Holy and precious. This kind of painstaking task is only reserved for your [Christian] brother and not for the metaphorical swine and pigs: those who do not care about God.

Prayer: Lord, show me the log in my eyes and help me be fruitful in ministry.

Matthew 7:6 (KJV) Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

After Henry believed in the Lord and was delivered from many dangerous habits like smoking and gambling, he now saw more clearly how those habits were destroying his life before he believed. Because of this, he tried persuading his old friends from such habits, trying to show them how bad these habits are for their health and even their finances, but they laughed at him and hated him even more. All he tried to do was to help them, but it was working the other way round.

We can see from scripture (see 2 Pet 2:22) that the metaphor of dogs and swine are used for rebellious 'believers' (who would not be corrected because they have turned from the way and are not deceived or ignorant but know what they are doing) or unbelievers. We are not to expend our teaching, counseling, prayers, and time on such believers who have denied the faith (see 1 John 5:16).

There is no need to waste your time to convince an unbeliever about the dangers of his habits (he most likely already knows), what he needs is the gospel. It is when you see a speck in the eye of your [Christian] brother or sister that you can expend your resources and time in removing it through prayer, teaching, and loving counsel. But you can only be effective in this when you have already removed the log in your own eyes (see Matt 7:5).

Go into today remembering that you have limited time on this side of eternity. Make the most of it for God’s kingdom profit (see Eph 5:15-16).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you to be more fruitful in His kingdom this new week.
