Ephesians 5:8-10 (NET) For you were at one time darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light – for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth – trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

When MMM(a very popular Ponzi scheme) came into Nigeria, I had the opportunity of being able to observe the outlook of two categories of believers close to me at the time. The first category was the believers who were enticed by its mouth-watering profit promise, but they were also very interested in knowing whether it was pleasing to God for them to join such a scheme. They somehow felt a check in their spirits concerning it so they spoke with people they felt would have more spiritual understanding concerning such matters because they sincerely wanted to know if joining it was pleasing to the Lord. The second category of believers were those who saw MMM as an opportunity to make quick money, and as their long-awaited answer to prayer. They did not want to know whether it was pleasing to God or not if they made money from it. Because of the possibility that it might not be pleasing to God, they were not interested in finding out whether joining such a scheme was pleasing to God. They did not truly love the Lord but they loved money more. God's opinion was not desired as long as they were going to make lots of money.

I have said time and time again that for me, one of the surest ways I can identify a true believer is how they respond to God's word when it contradicts their way of life or something they desire to do. In today's Bible verses, we see a functional definition of truth. It is trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Anyone who is truly saved is born of the Holy Spirit – the Spirit of Truth. Because the this, he has an inner desire to walk in the truth – to be ever more pleasing to the Lord. He will be committed to learning because he wants to learn more and more about what is pleasing the Lord (see Colossians 1:10).

Anyone that does not have the truth in him may be filled with religion, but is not particularly committed to pleasing the Lord. Such is primarily committed to pleasing himself. His god is actually his belly, and he minds earthly things(see Philippians 3:19). When you receive eternal life, you [should] also receive an eternal outlook on life. You begin to live and make all your choices with eternity in view, not just time.

Go into today remembering that commitment to pleasing the Lord in all things is the acid test of love for God. This is the way to know whether the truth is in you or you need to repent and give yourself to discipleship (see John 8:31-32).

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please guide me into all truth. Help me live a life that is continually pleasing to you, In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stand Unmovable

I Corinthians 15:58 (KJV) Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord

Evelyn first noticed the change in Frank when she spent some time with him at his office. She noticed how glib and economical with the truth he had become. It was then that she began to look back in retrospect and began to clearly see that for some time now, Frank was beginning to nurse an unhealthy drive for material wealth. The thing was, Frank had changed church some two years ago from the church where he grew up and got saved to a new place where an unscriptural and undue emphasis was made on wealth.

Ephesians 4:14 talks about the effect of the wind of doctrines on the immature believer. False teachings and wrong doctrines provide very slippery slopes that can trip up the undiscerning believer. This is because what a man believes affects his conduct and actions. A believer who has been giving to teaches that make light of walking in righteousness will not find it very difficult to begin to house and harbor a girlfriend in sin and shame and still be very committed to church.

So to stand unmoveable, one of the key things to consider is the doctrine/teaching you are receiving. It was in 2 Timothy 3:16 that it was stated that all scriptures are inspired of God and are profitable for doctrine. A sound doctrine takes into account all the counsel of the scriptures being careful to emphasize what the scriptures emphasize. Whenever we begin to cherry-pick and run off with just a portion of scriptures, we can run into error and drift from the life and call to which we have been called.

False doctrines are dangerous to the health and growth of a believer’s walk with the Lord. The Bible is replete with warnings against false doctrines. Don’t handle with kid gloves what the scriptures treated with seriousness. Pay attention to what you hear, and grow into maturity so you no longer be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. Be unmoveable.

Go into today determined to value and heed sound doctrine and remain steadfast in the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, help me stand steady and unmovable. Give me an aversion to false doctrine, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Be Discerning

Devotional Audio☞ http://bit.ly/aud2329
Ephesians 5:17 (AMP) Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and fully grasping what the will of the Lord is

“Self-love is the best kind of love, before you can love your neighbor you have to first love yourself” so said Timi to Maureen, but even though Maureen couldn’t refute his claim, she knew something was off about the statement and so she sought some help.

The Bible warns that in the last days, many will depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils (1 Tim 4:1), it is, therefore, imperative that the believer becomes more discerning in his walk. With the advent of the information age, societal influence is no longer restricted to the persons living within your community but is now also inclusive of your 3,542 friends on Facebook, and the 2,046 persons you follow on Twitter and Instagram. Information is thrown at you at the speed of light and you get to come across all kinds of philosophy and sophistry.

To keep your head above waters in these times, one must be soaked in the word and possess a discerning heart that is able to sift through words to recognize falsehood despite its being garbed in carefully selected phrases, analogies, and anecdotes. The statement made to Maureen, for example, might seem to flow when taken at face value but it is certainly not the position of Scriptures.

The emphasis of love in the scriptures is toward God and then toward fellow men. What about the passage that says to love your neighbor as yourself? You will need to remember that that statement was made in answer to a question, and the full answer states that we must love God with our whole being, and then we can love our fellow man (Mark 12:29-31). Love for man must flow from love for God and not some philosophical self-love. If you love God you will keep His commandment and therefore God’s word becomes your benchmark for loving. Therefore, we can do for others what we have not done for ourselves because we love and obey God.

Go into today knowing that God’s way is higher than the ways of men. In Christ, we have been given the privilege to participate in God's higher way and life. Be discerning, don’t get sucked in by the wisdom of the world. Walk in the supernatural and divine wisdom of the word.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please give me a discerning heart that hungers for Your word, In Jesus' name. Amen.

Appeal to the Judge

Psalms 75:6-7 (KJV) For promotion cometh neither from the east nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is judge: he putteth down one and setteth up another.

Whenever Percy thought of his workplace, all he felt was anger and resentment. He felt that his new line manager had hated him from the time he declined slightly adjusting the financial records in preparation for an audit. So much so that he had given him bad reviews on his appraisals just to punish him by making him lose his bonuses and an opportunity for a promotion and a raise. The thought that he could miss out on the promotion due him for which he had worked so hard for years further fuelled his anger.

Walking with God requires placing implicit trust in Him. One of the dimensions a believer must come to know God as is as Judge. As Judge, He is not oblivious of the trials, temptations, events, and circumstances that surround your life. He knows how to dish out judgment and his judgments are not mere words but commands upon which angels must act and to which nature and circumstances bend to.

This is why God says, ‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay’ (Rom 12:19). And note that when God acts in ‘vengeance’, it is not vengeance in the sense in which a man pays back one who offends him, but in the sense in which a judge delivers judgment to a convicted offender.

Therefore, when you feel oppressed, cheated, maltreated, or persecuted, don’t give in to the pressure to hit back, or to resort to backbiting, bitterness, or even intrigues. Simply appeal to the Judge in prayer. He has the authority and the wisdom to intervene, and his intervention are always just. He will deliver, save, uplift, and restore.

Go into today confident that your life is in God’s hands and that as you commit your ways into his hands, he will direct your path.
Thank you Father for being the judge of all the earth. Thank you for your righteous judgments, In Jesus' name. Amen,

Discerning The Body of Christ

1 Corinthians 11:29-30 (KJV) For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

Freda was so sick that it was clear to her that she might die. She had walked in divine health and healing before but did not understand why this time, the sickness did not seem to respond to her prayers.
Through the ministry of a prophet, she discovered that she was afflicted because of the way she failed to discern the Lord’s body. She was an expert at publicly bringing down, criticizing, and condemning ministers of the gospel she perceived were airing in one way or another. She did not realize that even though some of the ministers she criticized were wrong, her methods and approach was unacceptable.

Children of God don’t rejoice and publicly criticize matters that are a source of grief to the Lord. We don’t take our disputes to the public space and bring down one another. We are not allowed as brethren to take our disputes to public court before unbelievers (see 1 Corinthians 6:1). Why do some think we can take our matters as brethren to the public court of opinions?

Christ is the head, the Church is His body. When any part of the body is sick or in pain, other parts of the body may not feel it, but the head (the mind) does.

But when other parts rejoice when the head is in pain, it is because they do not rightly discern the body, and may in effect disconnect themselves from that which the head supplies.

No individual part of the body can effectively continue to function without the other parts of the body. Likewise, no believer can be effective without other believers. It is suicidal to think that you are good enough as a ministry without the other ministries.

We may differ in our denominations of worship, gifts, offices, and approaches, but if we have the same Lord, we are all brethren and we should walk with this knowledge.

Go into today knowing that to be a true ambassador of Christ, you must live by the words of Christ in 1 Corinthians 12:26 “And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.”

The Dangerous Three

Ephesians 5:3 (KJV) But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints

Greg found himself in a situation he never knew was possible. He had joined some 'successful' friends in their secret society. He was a believer who had been baptized in the Holy Ghost, but because of covetousness, he was willing to do whatever it takes to make lots of money. This covetousness ultimately led him to become a member of a demonic secret society. He didn’t plan to go that far into darkness, but it was a slippery slope and he couldn’t help the fall.

Even though all sins have the same spiritual consequence of death, all sins do not have the same effect on the soul. The sins mentioned in today's scripture are sins that weigh the heaviest on the conscience and can minister condemnation to the soul most potently. Apart from that, these sins are the most express vehicles through which demons can invade a person's body and soul.

Sexual immorality is any sexual experience outside marriage between a male man and a female woman. Uncleanness is usually related to sexual immorality and would usually lead to it. Drbouchery, lasciviousness, and pornography are good examples of uncleanliness. Covetousness is the insatiable desire to get money at all costs. It is not occasioned by need but by greed and comparisons. These three vices are some of the most potent tools the devil uses to erode the faith of believers and cause a shipwreck of faith.

Go into today being careful to ensure that these dangerous works of the flesh are very far away from you. Trust the Lord for wisdom to destroy systems that enhance them and build systems around your life that make it very difficult for you to walk in them.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me walk above the works of the flesh, and strengthen me to please you in all things, in Jesus' name. Amen

Authority Over Death

Hebrews 2:14-15 (KJV) Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Caleb went to visit his friend and found that they had a very fierce guard dog in their compound. Because of his previous experience with that kind of dog, and because of stories he had heard in the past, he froze with fear when after letting himself into the compound he realized that there was no one inside but he and the dog alone. As the dog rushed towards him barking, he had no choice but to shout the name of his friend. As he shouted his friend’s name, he noticed that the dog was actually afraid of him and started slowing down. He shouted again and again, and the more he did, the less afraid he became. The dog saw that he was no more afraid of it and turned away. He was no more afraid of the dog because he realized he had authority over it.

You see, we don't really fear things we have authority over, but when something is dangerous and we have no authority over it, we tend to fear it.

All the authority over death has been given unto our Lord Jesus Christ. He took this authority by destroying the former holder of it-- the devil.

Those who are truly in Christ would share in His authority. Because of this, we are no longer to be afraid of death. Apart from the cessation of physical life, death has other manifestations in human life. Death can affect health, business, career, relationship, security, etc. Most people in the world are under bondage to mammon because of the fear of some of these manifestations of death. But those who are in Christ have authority over death. We are not to be afraid of death, and because of this, we are [to be] free indeed.

What does it mean to be in Christ? It means to believe in Him and let His word abide in you and shape your life. It means to remain in Him and not go back to the world.

Go into today remembering that because you are in Christ, you have authority over death. You are not to be afraid of death or any of its manifestations.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me abide in Christ and grow in His authority, In Jesus’ name. Amen.

How Do We Treat Each Other

1 Corinthians 8:12 (NET) If you sin against your brothers or sisters in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

Liza observed that she was going through a season of spiritual dryness. She couldn't understand why this was happening because as far as she knew, she did everything right. She kept to her Bible study and prayer schedule, was faithful in her donations to the church, etc. But she observed that her prayer time was becoming dry and unexciting. It was as if the Holy Spirit didn't show up anymore to empower her to pray.

After struggling like this for days, she became particularly concerned. 'Lord, what is wrong, why am I not experiencing your fellowship like before?'

As soon as she prayed this prayer, she felt the presence of the Lord again. She immediately knew that something was wrong. Moments later, she received a text message from one of her Christian sisters. This message detailed how hurt and offended she was by the way Liza treated her.

Liza immediately understood that the problem was that she had sinned against the Lord in the way she treated this sister. She immediately repented.

Jesus is really concerned about the way we treat each other as Christians. Every Christian you relate with is not just your sister or brother but is also a child of God whose heavenly father jealously cares for. It is particularly bad when more mature believers do things that become a stumbling block for weaker believers (see Mark 9:42).

Many believers have blocked the heavens above them because of the way they have treated their Christian brethren.

Go into today remembering that God watches the way we treat each other as a measure of our faithlessness and love. If you truly love God, it would show in the way you treat His people. See Matthew 25:35-40 and 1 John 4:20

Philippians 1:21-23 (NET) For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain. Now if I am to go on living in the body, this will mean productive work for me, yet I don’t know which I prefer: I feel torn between the two, because I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far

Chloe observed that unlike her, Mary her elder sister was no more afraid of untimely death. They were flying together in a plane when there was severe turbulence and at some point, it appeared that the pilot had lost control of the plane. Chloe started thinking about all the people that had died in previous plane crashes. She started to panic, but she observed that Mary was calm and undisturbed. A few minutes into the turbulence, Mary tapped Chloe and said "don't worry, I can't die now. We'd land safely". True to Mary's word, they landed safely despite the damaged landing gear of the plane.

"How were you so sure that we wouldn't crash? How could you have been so calm?" Chloe frantically asked Mary after they landed. "God has shown me my future and the things I would do for Him in this life. I just know I can't die before I complete those things" Mary answered.

From when Mary was a teenager, she had known the Lord and was committed to pleasing Him in all things. Everything about her life was now towards advancing the gospel and pleasing the Lord. As she grew in the knowledge of God, she grew in His authority, and she was no longer afraid of death. Chloe was convinced that the reason their pane did not crash that day was because Mary was in it.

If you read today's Bible verses carefully, you will see that Apostle Paul had the authority and the choice to determine when he would die. Death for him was not something that could happen accidentally, it was something that could only happen when he was ready to go. This kind of spiritual authority is reserved for those who, like Paul, can truly say "for me to live is Christ". Everything about Apostle Paul's existence was for the fulfillment of the purpose and will of Christ. That was the secret of his authority. That is the secret to living a fulfilled life that cannot be cut short by an untimely death.

Go into today remembering that only the life lived for Christ truly counts in eternity. A life that counts in eternity commands the power of eternity even in time.

Prayer Confession: I live a life that pleases God in all respects. I have the authority of Christ and my life cannot be cut short. I will fulfill my earthly purpose and receive a hero's welcome in heaven, In Jesus’ name. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:12 (KJV) Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Amaka had a very lucrative job and was very excellent at her work. Because of this, she became a favorite of her boss. But there was one day he gave her a new assignment, and this assignment would involve her constantly telling lies and violating her conscience. She thought about it and decided to politely ask him to give the role to somebody else. He asked her why she was turning down such an opportunity to be promoted faster than her colleagues. She simply responded: 'sir, doing this work would be against my faith'. He reminded her that he too was a Christian and even a deacon. When it was quite clear that Amaka wasn’t willing to take the 'opportunity' he was presenting her, he gave it to somebody else.

Amaka turned down the offer because she knew taking it would be violating her faith. I find it instructive to note that she didn’t say she couldn’t do the job because of her religion, she said she couldn’t do it because it was against her faith.

There are certain things that when a believer begins to do, he is doing it at the peril of his own faith. Telling lies for example, is a faith weakener. People who live by faith do not make a habit of telling lies because they believe God will come through for them and they don’t have to tell a lie.

If a believer continually walks in a way that violates his faith, he is rendering himself spiritually weak and ineffective.

Go into today remembering that as believers, we should fight the good fight of faith. This involves identifying the things that weaken our faith and running away from them.

Are You Faithful?

1 Corinthians 4:5 (NLT) “So be careful not to jump to conclusions before the Lord returns as to whether or not someone is faithful. When the Lord comes, He will bring our deepest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. And then God will give to everyone whatever praise is due.”

Faithfulness is one of God’s chief characteristics. It refers primarily to His reliability in keeping His promises. Faithfulness also stands as the hallmark of the life of the Christian, as we imitate the faithfulness of Christ. God wants us to be people who are dependable and capable of being trusted. God is faithful and rewards faithfulness.

But, you see, faithfulness is becoming a rare commodity in our generation. Many pulpits are manned by men who are unfaithful to their wives; many civil servants are unfaithful to their employer-the government; many politicians are unfaithful to the people who voted them to power. If you are not faithful to your wife, husband, employer, employee, neighbor, or even the government, you can’t be faithful to your God.

From today’s passage, we see that faithfulness is contingent on what we do when nobody is around. This is what God looks at in rewarding faithfulness. My question for you today is: do you have deep secrets which when brought to light would make you bow your head in shame? Or do you have private motives which if revealed would make people run away from you? If you do, then you are not a faithful person in the eye of God. Deal with those secret sins or they will deal with you later on. Remember that the Lord Jesus will return one day to reward those who will remain faithful to the end.

Prayer: Pray that the Lord will help you to remain faithful to Him and to everyone around you.

Acts 2:42 (NLT) All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer.

When Gbenga first believed, he was in the community of sincere and loving believers. Because they were all graduate students on a university campus, they met every night and would have their dinner together at the end of their meetings. They did bible study, prayed, and were taught the word of God during most of their meetings. They all tried to contribute their best to meet the needs of members of the fellowship in need. The power of God was mighty in their midst to heal and deliver, and many joined them. Members of that group were so close that some thought they were a very tight-knit frat group or secret society.

This was the foundation that Gbenga had and grew greatly. Before he believed, he was a drug addict with many issues. After he believed and was totally devoted to fellowship, the word of God, and prayer, he was free of all his addictions and sins. He no more lived a life characterized by his formal temptations. He understood the grace of the Lord practically.

There is so much talk about grace today. Believers need to experience the practical aspect of grace that empowers them to live above sin. Grace teaches us how to walk in a way that would make it difficult for us to fall again (see Titus 2:11).

Go into today remembering that devoting yourself to the Word, prayer, and Christian fellowship, is the way to labor to enter your rest; a place where you have ceased from your own struggle to live holy because your life is now empowered by God's grace.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to experience your grace in every area of life. Amen.

Hebrews 4:10-11 (KJV) For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us LABOUR therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

After Gbenga became born again, he was taught about sanctification. He was told that when he experienced sanctification, he would no longer struggle to be Holy.

He would spend hours reading the word of God and praying because he wanted to be sanctified.

In the seventies and eighties, this was a practice among the charismatic community in Nigeria, and they had very remarkable fruits.

The way a new believer receives sanctification and enters his rest is through serious devotion to the word of God, prayer, and fellowship (John 17:17, Acts 2:42). Anyone who recently believes, but does not give himself to these will struggle to enter into his rest. He will still do his own works in order to walk righteously, and he is bound to fail.

When a believer enters the rest of God, he ceases from his own work. This means his life is no longer sponsored by his own effort, but now by the grace of God. He no longer struggles with sins because he is now dead to sin. Even if he is tempted, it is clear to him that there is a way of escape.

Go into today remembering that God wants us to enter into our rest. He wants us to cast all our cares upon Him and receive His kingdom like little children.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you be more devoted to the word, prayers, and Christian fellowship.

1 Corinthians 7:19 (NKJV)
Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.

From when he was a child, Abu was told that his nation was under a curse, and because of that, they could never progress above their neighbors. He was also told that men from his nation behaved the way they did because of this curse. But he knew that in Christ, there was no curse but only blessings. For this reason, he was committed to preaching the gospel to the people of his nation because he wanted them to be free from curses and walk in the blessing.

We know from scripture that the Jews, being physically the defendants of Abraham, had a heritage of the blessing. But we also know that this blessing was activated only when they walked in obedience to God's commandments.

Today, those who are in Christ are the spiritual descendants of Abraham (Galatians 3:29). Jesus is the seed God referred to when He Promised Abraham that in his Seed [not seeds], all the nations of the earth will be blessed (see Galatians 3:16, Genesis 22:18). This means that even if your nation is under the limitations of curses, if the people of that nation accept Christ (Abraham’s seed) and abide in Him, they would be blessed above every curse.

Just like with ancient Israel, the blessing of God is activated in the life of the believer through obedience to the commands of the Lord. For example, God commands children to honor their parents. When blessed people obey this commandment, the blessing of long life; prosperity and seeing good days would be activated (see Ephesians 6:1-3).

Go into today remembering that Jesus commanded us to make disciples of nations (Matthew 28:19). This is because, through Christ, God wants to bless nations and set them free from the dominion of curses.

Confession: I am blessed above all curses because I am in Christ. Amen.

2 Peter 1:3 (NET) I can pray this because his divine power has bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness through the rich knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence.

Gbenga was 13 years old when he accepted the Lord Jesus, but after years of accepting the Lord Jesus, Gbenga was still suffering from different demonic oppressions. By the time he was 23, he shared his experience with a friend who was a leader in their campus fellowship. This friend simply laughed and asked him if he had been baptized in the Holy Ghost. "You are being afflicted because even though you have believed, you have not yet been filled with the Holy Spirit" his friend said. That was the day Gbenga got baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. From that day, he felt a hundred times stronger in his spirit and closer to the Lord. He now had the ability to exercise authority over demons.

The first sign the Lord says will follow those who believe in Him is that they would cast out demons in His name. But this promise is actually for those who believe and are baptized (see Mark 16:16-18).

From today’s Bible verse, we see that the way we can access the rich provisions of God is through the rich knowledge of God. The more you know the Lord, the more His power can be made manifest in your life. Just like with every other relationship, when you give quality time to spending with the Lord each day, you will get to know Him more and see more of His glorious power. Being filled with the Spirit affords us the privilege of the sweet fellowship with God through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Praying in the Spirit is a great spiritual asset every new testament saint has.

If we truly desire to know the Lord more, let’s be determined to give more quality time to spend with Him each day.

Go into today with a strong desire to know the Lord even more(see Phillipians 3:10). It is the people that know their God that shall be strong and do exploits (see Daniel 11:32).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me overcome distractions that prevent me from knowing you as much as I should, In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don't Deceive Yourself

Ephesians 5:5 (NET) For you can be confident of this one thing: that no person who is immoral, impure, or greedy (such a person is an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Ikenna now understood that he was deceiving himself and had believed the doctrine of demons when he found that he no longer could walk in the authority of Christ to cast out demons. All he now had were empty confessions and social media likes for his soothing doctrines to the flesh. Before he started believing certain doctrines his teachers called grace teachings, he lived under the authority of Christ and had this authority of Christ, but as he received doctrines that made him indulge his fleshly desires and deceive himself that he is secure, he became empty of spiritual authority without knowing it. A visit to his village was what opened his eye to this reality. Household demons he had overcome years ago were now tormenting him all over again, and he couldn’t exercise authority over them like before. He went back to the city with an infirmity.

There's been this idea floating around today that says as long as a person believes in the Lord Jesus, even if he continues to be an immoral person or to participate in any known sin, he would still inherit the kingdom of God because of his faith. Those who believe these doctrines use punchlines like "we are saved by faith alone, not by what we do but by what we believe". They intentionally forget that scripture makes it clear that any faith that fails to produce corresponding works is dead faith(James 2:26). Believers who hear the word of God but do not live according to it are said to be deceiving themselves(see James 1:22). They are deceiving themselves because they sincerely believe that they are eternally safe even though they are not.

It is possible for a true believer to be overpowered by temptation and trip because of a sin that easily entangles, but no true believer takes his place in that sin but would be relentless in fighting for freedom like a drowning person. Any believer that says sin does not matter is only proving that he has not truly believed, or has had a shipwreck of faith, and is suffering from serious self-deceit. Those who have truly believed receive the seed of God in their spirits and this seed repels and hates sin so much that if they find themselves overpowered by it, they would feel miserable inside(see 1 John 3:9).

Today's Bible verse is very clear, it says no person who is immoral, impure, or greedy has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ. It does not say “no unbeliever”, it says no person. This includes “believers” and unbelievers.

Go into today remembering that you are not alone in this world. The Lord is with you to empower you to live a godly fruitful life(2 Peter 1:3). Remember to begin each day in His presence asking for strength to overcome temptations and power to represent Him well.

Prayer: Ask the Lord for grace to never be found a participant in any fruitless work of darkness, but rather to reprove them (see Ephesians 5:11)

Bless And Do Not Curse

Romans 12:14 (AMP) Bless those who persecute you [who are cruel in their attitude toward you]; bless and do not curse them.

Pastor Joe, you're too slack! That man obviously assaulted you and all you did was sit back and look? Being a Christian does not make one is a fool, your own however seems to have turned you into one. Thank God he did not try it with me, I would have shown him that I'm not an ordinary man of God; I'm anointed, and must be treated as such.

I want to be like Jesus by all means, replied Pastor Joe. Do you think Jesus would have retaliated? Certainly not! “When he was reviled, he reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not, but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously" (1 Peter 2:23 KJV). But Joe, that man insulted you; he even spat on your face, just because you attempted to preach to him.

The command from today's text is, “bless and do not curse".

It is your everyday actions and behavior that show whether Jesus Christ is Lord over you or not; if He has become your Lord, obeying Him becomes your foremost priority.

There will be people around you who will seek to take undue advantage of you, some will because they know that you are a child of God. It is your response to such persons and attitudes that will show your true identity in God.

In 1 Peter 3:9 (AMP), we were told to never repay evil for evil or insult for insult (scolding, tongue-lashing, berating), but on the contrary, we should bless (pray for their welfare, happiness, and protection, and truly pity and love them). For know that to this you have been called, that you may yourselves inherit a blessing [from God–that you may obtain a blessing as heirs, bringing welfare and happiness and protection].

Go into today knowing that imitating the life of Jesus is the easiest way to show that Jesus is Lord over you. It is only a life that shows submission to Him that can consistently manifest His authority (James 4:7).

Prayer: commit yourself in absolute submission to the lordship of Jesus.

Marriage and Integrity

1 Corinthians 7:1-2 (KJV) Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

Before the epistle of First Corinthians was written, some members of the church at Corinth wrote a letter to Apostle Paul asking certain questions. They wanted to know if they were permitted to get married as unmarried men and women who now believed in the Lord Jesus. They wanted also to know if those married to unbelievers could remain with their spouses even if their spouses did not believe.
Today’s Bible verses address the first question the Corinthians raised. Apostle Paul makes it clear here that even though celibacy is a good thing, sexual immorality is a bad thing and marriage helps to avoid it.

One of the strongest attributes of God that His children inherit is His integrity (Psalm 15:4). God even exalts His word above His name (Psalm 138:2), that’s how much a Person of integrity our God is. Marriage adds the layer of integrity into the reasons why a believer must flee all sexual immorality. If a married person commits immorality, he not only sins against God and his body but sins against his wife and breaks his integrity.

Some have taught that celibacy is a secret to spiritual power. That could be true for some inferior form of spiritual power, but God’s power doesn’t work that way. The only reason in the word of God why unmarried people can serve God better is because a married man would have to be concerned about the things of this world—how to please his wife.
But marriage becomes a big plus to ministry when one marries the right person who would help him/her fulfill his divine mandate.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you marry the right person who would help you fulfill your divine destiny. If you are married, ask the Lord to help you and your spouse help each other fulfill destiny.

The Fear of The Lord

Philippians 2:12 (KJV) Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

One of the most painful things is having to deal with believers who have no integrity. Some so-called believers are outright frauds, but they profess the name of Christ and are even decorated members of big church congregations.

Many professing believers now walk unrepentantly in iniquity and claim that they are under grace. What delusion!

Because of this,  the name of our Lord is blasphemed among unbelievers (Romans 2:24). And it is becoming harder and harder for certain people [who reason critically] to come to the light of Christ because of the filthy shadow cast by lukewarm believers everywhere.

Growing up as a child,  I remember that the church in my country was not as wealthy and large as it is today,  but it was much more powerful. True conversions to the faith by even those who were the biggest antagonists were commonplace. The name of the Lord was more revered and honored even in the media. No comedians dared mention the name of the Lord or make a caricature of his ministers(something that has become too common today).

But some things changed along the way and everyone now felt comfortable in church with unrepentant hearts. The fear of the Lord was skillfully and gradually removed from the Christian creed. All of a sudden,  believers no longer walked in the fear of the Lord.

Foolishness now became celebrated in the organized church because politicians who are known thieves were given titles in the church. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom(Prov 9:10). To fear the Lord less and less is the beginning of foolishness.

Some have argued that believers should not fear the Lord but only have 'reverential awe' towards Him because He is our heavenly father. Some have argued that today's Bible verse was not properly translated,  that we are to work out our salvation with 'reverential awe' towards God,  not with fear. The problem with this view is that reverential awe does not invoke trembling. But the verse clearly says "work out your salvation with fear and trembling". Believe me, whatever it is that awaits believers who do not obey this command (to work out their salvation) is something that should be terribly feared and dreaded by anyone.

It is time for the fear of God to return to His people everywhere because when God comes to judge the world,  it would begin at the household of God (1 Peter 4:17).

May we not be found wanting. May we not be cast away after laboring in God's house.

Go into today praying with this verse:

1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV)  But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Faithful in Unrighteous Mammon

Luke 16:11 (KJV) If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

Ekene worked in his boss’s shop where he served as an apprentice. He often added to the price of the goods sold and stole from his boss so that he could make some extra money. He did this all through his years as an apprentice and was never caught. After he had finished his apprenticeship, he began his personal business, but he never prospered. He became so frustrated that he sought help from his pastor. By prophecy, his pastor told him about how he had been an unfaithful apprentice; and told him what to do if he wanted his lot to change.

Luke 16:12 (KJV), “And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?”

Before God commits true riches to your hands, he will first of all test your faithfulness with the unrighteous mammon (money). For Ekene, he had to work under a boss. For you, it may be managing the finance of a little group such as a church, family and even your personal earnings. For example, tithing, offering, giving to others and how you spend money, etc. When you are unfaithful with the little at hand, you will not receive the much that is desired.

Luke 16:10 (KJV), “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”

If you desire the true riches of the kingdom, you must learn to be faithful in the unrighteous mammon (money), because, except you are found worthy of trust, God will not entrust you with the riches of His kingdom which includes earthly wealth.

Go into today knowing that God is willing to give you true riches. However, you must forsake all your unrighteous ways of seeking money.
Prayer: Lord, help me walk in your true riches and live above all limitations. Amen.

Made in the Image and Likeness of God

Genesis 1: 27 (KJV) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Man was originally made in the image and likeness of God. He lost that glory when he fell. It was at this point that man became rewired after the pattern of Satan and sin, and consequences such as curses, pain, hardship, poverty etc. became man’s reality.

However, God in His love for mankind sent His son Jesus to become the price for our freedom. God literally exchanged Jesus for us (2 Corinthians 5:21), such that in Jesus, the penalty for our sins was paid. “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit” 1 Peter 3:18 (ESV)“

Anyone who accepts the Lord Jesus will be reborn into the image and likeness of God in Christ Jesus, this is the born-again experience. Hence, anyone who believes in Jesus is saved from the power of sin. Although he may be tempted to sin, it is not because he is wired that way; he now has a new nature of righteousness. Note the use of the word ’tempt’. He is tempted because he is no longer wired to sin. If he were, the word 'tempt' will not be appropriate because you do not tempt a man to do what he is by nature.

How then do we grow? We grow by loving the things that God who redeemed us loves, and hate the things God hates (Heb 1:9). When this happens, growth will come as a return for our love for God which is manifested in obedience, discipline, and responsibility. John 14:15, 21 (paraphrased) “If you love me, keep my commandments and I will manifest myself to you.”

Go into today asking God that the eyes of your understanding be enlightened to behold wondrous things out of His word.

That We No Longer Be Children

Ephesians 4:14-15 (NET) So we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes. But practicing the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ, who is the head.

On social media yesterday, I saw the posts of a certain young man who had been properly deceived by certain doctrines of demons. His theology was polluted with astrology and different levels of mysticism. He was trying to sound knowledgeable but was simply revealing how deceived he had been. I couldn't help but feel some level of pity for him because unlike many believers today, he was given to some study, only that he had been studying the wrong things and had been tossed back and forth by the trickery of certain people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes. There is always a new wind of false doctrines these days. It is either the once saved always saved error or the Christian mysticism movement, or the covetousness inducing doctrines cloaked as the prosperity gospel, etc.

If believers are not properly taught by those ordained by the Lord to teach them, they would be taught by those ordained by the devil to scheme them. That's the sad reality. it is only believers that are properly taught that can practice the truth in love(see Ephesians 4:15)

If the Lord has called you into ministry to the body, you are expected to preach and teach the people he has sent you to. This means you must pay special attention to studying in order to show yourself approved unto God so that you can rightly divide the word of truth(see 2 Timothy 2:15). You must do this because your work on earth will be appraised by how effectively you do this.

Go into today remembering that one sign that people have not been properly taught is that they would be spiritual babes who can be tossed to and from by every new wind of doctrine.

Prayer: Father, help the church in my generation grow in corporate maturity, In Jesus name. Amen.

A Mature Church

Ephesians 4:11-13 (NET) It was he who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, that is, to build up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God – a mature person, attaining to the measure of Christ’s full stature.

When Segun and Victor were much younger in the faith, they had very divergent views about many minor things they thought were important. For instance, Segun did not believe that Victor understood the gospel because he attended a church where ladies wore jewelry. Victor believed Segun was too legalistic because he believed ladies shouldn't wear jewelry, etc. They both couldn't fellowship together nor did they truly see each other as brethren of the same spiritual family.

But as Segun and Victor became more spiritually mature, they found that the issues that caused disunity between them were minor issues. The real thing that was the burden of their hearts was to see the establishment of the kingdom of God in their nation. It was no more about which dressing mode was more appropriate or what they had to show that they were doing well materially.

We can see from today's passage that the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers are sent to build up the body of Christ until we all attain the unity of the faith, which is a product of corporate maturity. They do this by preaching and teaching. The sign of maturity in the body is unity. Unity is not necessarily uniformity. Unity is spiritual and can only be attained when believers are spiritual and no more carnal, uniformity is outward and can be achieved by fleshly designs.

When the prevalent doctrines in the church are teachings centered on materialism(baby doctrines), there would be prevalent spiritual infancy in the church.

Go into today remembering that disunity in the church is usually a product of lack of spiritual maturity. The Corinthian church was full of spiritual babies, and this was manifested by the disunity in the church. Some said they were with Paul and others said they were with Apollos.

Prayer: Lord, empower your ministers to edify the church with sound doctrine. Bring the church in my generation to attain the unity of the faith and spiritual maturity.

1 Corinthians 6:14-15 (KJV) And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.

Montgomery was going through a series of experiences that made it clear to him that he was under the influence of a curse. His great-grandparents and grandparents were missionaries. There was indeed a generational blessing in his family, and everyone knew it. But Montgomery’s case was different. He was walking under the influence of a curse. How did this come to be?

After he became born again, he found out through prophecy that he contacted the flow of curses in his life through sexual immorality with prostitutes during a season of his life. Because he had joined himself to a cursed person through immorality, he started walking in her generational curses. By the mercy of God, he was delivered and brought into the blessing of Christ.

Clean clothes do not purify dirty clothes, but dirty clothes can pollute clean clothes.

We saw previously that everything that happened to the Lord Jesus will also happen to us believers because we are members of His body. It is because we are members of the body of Christ that we share in the blessings of Abraham, and will be resurrected into glory.

Anyone who truly understands this will flee sexual immorality because immorality takes a member of the body of Christ and soils it with iniquity. Because your body is now the temple of God that lives within you, sexual immorality which is a sin against your body is a sin against God’s temple.

Go into today remembering that because you are a member of the Body of Christ, you should walk in the blessing of Christ.

Confession: I am blessed with all spiritual blessings. I am blessed beyond every generational curse because I am a member of Christ’s body. Sin shall have no dominion over me. Amen.

Deuteronomy 33:27 (NLT) The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out, 'Destroy them!'

There is a way most people feel when they have lots of money in the bank. This feeling is because money has the ability to be a refuge, and many people trust in it.

For the man that has made God his refuge, his feeling of security in Life comes from his knowledge of God. Such a person understands that 'underneath are the everlasting arms' of God.

Every human being in this world needs some form of refuge in life. Some trust in chariots and horses (Psalm 20:7). This means they trust in systems that they have put in place. They derive their feeling of security from the money that they have, and elaborate security arrangements. But those who trust in the Lord know better. They understand that anything that is not everlasting does not have the capacity to be a reliable refuge for man. They have made God their refuge, and they will never be put to shame.

Go into today thanking God because He is a refuge. Determine today to let your feeling of security be rooted in the integrity of God. This produces the faith required to receive the resources of heaven.

Prayer: thank you Father for being my refuge. I ask that you help me never waver in trusting you. Amen.

Luke 18:1 (LLB) And he told them a parable to show that they must always pray and not be discouraged.

"Rose, why do you pray like this?" Funmi asked. "If you were in my shoes what would you have done? With all the problems I have, prayer is my only way of escape! I will rest if my problems can just reduce". Rose responded.

One would expect that Rose would grow so fast spiritually and become a very mature believer because she prayed alot, but that was not the case and this was because her motive was wrong. She saw prayer only as a means of solving her problems. If God had solved all her problems, she would have stopped praying.

Rose's prayer was motivated by her problems and Funmilayo would not pray at all since she had no such problems. Jesus said however that, you must always pray; pray as a lifestyle; and never be discouraged. Your motivation should be because God commands it, and prayer is communing with your heavenly Father who you love.

Whether there is an obvious need or not, the Bible says “pray constantly" (1Thess 5:17 LEB).

Prayer becomes a time of fellowship with God when you pray out of a desire to please God and not just to solve problems. Because you are obeying God, He becomes obliged to meet your needs (Matthew 6:32-33) even before you ask.

One way to check your spiritual health is to check whether you are still praying, and what motivates your prayer.

Go into today knowing that the ultimate aim of prayer is fellowship with God and not necessarily to solve problems.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I choose to be motivated by your word. Let my prayer time become a time of fellowshipping with you. Amen!

God Confirms His Word

Hebrews 2:3-4 (NKJV) how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

Shade had a hard time discerning false prophets from true ones. She observed that some of the false prophets had become very smart by embracing 'holiness' doctrines.
But she had a personal encounter with one of such holiness preachers and realized he was as greedy and filthy as the rest.
She also realized that most of the false prophets were not interested in winning souls for the Lord, they were only interested in the money.

We can see from today's Bible verses that salvation was first preached by the Lord Jesus Himself, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him (His disciples who echoed His gospel).
In Matthew 9:35 and Luke 8:1, we see that the Lord Jesus went to different towns and villages teaching and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom. We also see that His disciples did the same. Many wonder what gospel message Jesus and the Apostles preached since Jesus was not yet crucified? Well, Jesus preached the message of salvation. What makes a person receive eternal salvation is believing that Jesus is Lord(the Christ of God, the messiah). Even before Jesus died on the cross, people were being saved through believing in Him.
We see in Luke 19:9 that Jesus said salvation had come to the house of Zacchaeus [because he believed in Him].

Before and after His death and resurrection, believing that Jesus is Lord was the key to salvation. The resurrection was God's token proof that Jesus is Lord. The Jews crucified Him because He said He was the Christ (the Son of God, the King of the Jews). But God raised Him up on the third day as proof that He is indeed the Christ (Lord, Anointed One, the Messiah). The gospel we preach today now includes this vital truth— that God raised Jesus from the dead (see Romans 10:9).

In John 4, we are given a rare peek into the content of the gospel message that Jesus preached while He walked the streets of Israel. We see Jesus preaching to the Samaritan woman, and their conversation headed up to Him revealing to her that He is the Messiah(see John 4:25-26). The woman believed in Him and even invited others to come and see the Christ (see John 4:29).

Whether then, or when the Apostles preached, or today, the gospel message has been about bringing people to receive the Lordship of Christ Jesus. People who receive the gospel live under the Lordship of Christ. That's why they repent of their old ways that do not align with life under Christ's government.

Go into today remembering that God confirms His gospel with signs and wonders, miracles, and gifts of The Spirit.
The next time you want to discern whether a prophet is false or not, look at the fruits of his ministry (Matthew 7:16). Is he raising people whose allegiance is to Christ (this shows by their lives of submission to the Lordship of Christ) or is he raising people whose true allegiance is to him and to mammon?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me be a true minister of your salvation. Stretch out your hand to confirm your word in life with signs and wonders, miracles, and gifts of the Spirit, In Jesus' name. Amen.

Ancient Words

Matthew 28:19-20 (NET) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Sandra's pastor erroneously taught them that the things our Lord Jesus taught his disciples do not apply to the church today because Jesus was teaching people under the law and we are not under the law. He went on to tell them that only the epistles have relevance for the believer in Christ.

When you see a preacher trying to explain away the teachings of our Lord Jesus, that is a telling sign that he is a teacher of heresy.

Sandra's pastor probably didn't realize that after Jesus resurrected, He instructed His apostles to go and make disciples of all nations by baptizing them and teaching them to observe all that He taught. He also probably does not realize that what the apostles wrote in the epistles were echoes of what Christ taught.

Because of what Sandra's pastor was teaching, which he called “the gospel of grace”, the church he pastored was full of weak indisciplined, and morally bankrupt young people who were full of emotion and devoid of spiritual understanding. While in that Church, Sandra had so many abortions that she did not believe she still had the ability to get pregnant. She was so unhappy and empty even though she was brainwashed to believe she was under the grace of God and was eternally secure. Because of the unrelenting intercession of her mother and sisters, she was eventually delivered from that charismatic zoo she called her church. She was brought to true repentance and started living a straight life under the authority of Christ. It took her mother thirteen years of constant intercession for Sandra to become truly saved.

Though ancient, the words of our Lord are the most current and relevant words for life today. They form the foundation of all Christian doctrine.

Go into today remembering that because the church is apostolic in nature, the product of an accurate Christian assembly should be sinners converted into saints through the process of discipleship. Any assembly where sinners are made to feel comfortable in their sin is not a place to be as a serious-minded believer.

Prayer: Lord, help me live by your word and be fruitful in every good work. Amen.
