Seated With Christ

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2597

Ephesians 2:6 (NET) and he raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus
Nonye was really displeased with her stepmother because she didn't attend her wedding. She had surgery and had to miss the wedding, but Nonye said to herself that if it were her own daughter, she would have still found a way to make it for the wedding. Such was the relationship between Nonye and her stepmother - filled with suspicion and misunderstanding. Nonye who had lost her mom when she was very young didn't have the best relationship with her stop mother.

When Nonye gave birth to her first child, her stepmother was the first to come and insist that she would stay to take care of the baby and her. Nonye was suspicious but this time, she was now more spiritually mature because she was married to a man who knew and feared the Lord. Former Nonye would have never allowed her stepmother to stay in her house, but because she was now more spiritually mature, she was more accommodating, less fearful, and less suspicious. She got to this point by realizing that abiding in christ meant his character and nature will manifest through her.

While Nonye's stepmother stayed in her house to take care of the baby, she observed that Nonye had truly changed. Nonye was now kind, gentle, humble, and very considerate. After one and a half months, Nonye's changed life brought conviction to her stepmother’s heart and she accepted the Lord Jesus. The reason Nonye could lead her stepmother to the Lord was that she was now living like a representative of Christ.

Today's verse reveals what happens to us who are in Christ. Because we are in Christ, where He is seated is where we are too. This is made possible by the Holy Spirit who is our vital connection with Christ. Even though we are physically on the earth, through the Holy Spirit that dwells in us, we are connected to Christ. We dwell in Him and He in us.

Go into today remembering that you should abide in Christ if you are born again. If you reckon yourself to dwell in Christ, then live and act like Him.

Prayer: Lord, help me truly abide in you and walk in the authority of your throne.

Life in the spirit 3

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2596
Romans 8:3-4 (NET) For God achieved what the law could not do because it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Sandra was born into a church where the rules were really strict. She was not permitted to wear jewelry, makeup, or any such outward adornment. They had very strict rules concerning food to be eaten and many such things. But Sandra was not born again. Sin was still her boss. When she was in university, she got pregnant and had to abort it because "no one must hear about this".

She accepted the Lord Jesus when she was in her final year and understood what it really meant to be born again. For the first time in her life, she knew she was righteous and there were the true fruits of righteousness in her life. This righteousness was not born out of the old sense of condemnation but born out of the consciousness of justification.

Laws are good and they are used to bring order, but even the best laws [given by God himself] didn't have the ability to make anybody righteous because laws have to be obeyed in the flesh and the flesh does not have the ability to please God- it is too weak.

When a person becomes born again, he receives an entrance of the Spirit of life that enables him to walk in the righteousness of God. But fellowship with the spirit is key to walking in the spirit. We must learn to cultivate fellowship with the Spirit through His Word, Prayer, and fellowship with other Spirit-filled brethren. The Holy Spirit is received by faith- when the believer believes that he has been justified because of Christ and would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit as a result. It is only by the power of the Spirit that the righteousness of God can be fulfilled and worked out in anyone, because true righteousness originates from the spirit, and only those who walk in the Spirit can experience it(see Romans 8:4).

Go into today remembering that the only way a person can walk in the righteousness of God is through communion with the Holy Spirit who has been given freely to all who believe.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you live daily in fellowship with the Holy Spirit and please Him in all things.

Good and Faithful Servant – Who is faithful?

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2595

Matthew 24:45-46 (NET): “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the lord has set over his household to give them their food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his lord finds doing so when he comes…”

Have you never seen one of those movies?
Young Jack and Jane love each other. Though initially faced with the disapproval of their families, who have a healthy enmity going on between them, their love persists and survives the inferno of hate and mountain of oppositions. At long last, when they ought to begin to consummate their love after a wonderful engagement ceremony that brings both families together, war breaks out and Jack gets conscripted into the army, and now ‘happily ever after’ must wait. Going off to war, Jack promises with his life that he’d be back. He gives half of his pendant, an heirloom, to Jane, and the scene closes in a somber note to the echoing voice of Jack screaming… “I’ll come back for you Jane. I swear it”, and she replies in between sobs, “I’ll wait for you if it’s the last thing I do”.

Three months pass and Jack isn’t returned but at least he sends letters. But then the letters stop coming, Jack is declared missing behind enemy lines. Weeks roll into months and months into years and still no word from Jack, only the faint echoes of his retreating voice whispering, “I’d be back”. Many suitors come knocking on Jane’s door, but she spurns them all. “He said he will return; I will wait for him” she says. Finally, after 5 years, Jack returns and finds Jane waiting, just as she promised she would.

Faithfulness is the ability to keep faith. This produces loyalty to a cause or a person even independent of changing circumstances.

A faithful servant will keep to the terms of his service in all seasons. His loyalty and service are not determined by his present circumstance. Our text tells us that the faithful servant is one who is found doing what he was asked to do even when the master returns unannounced. He is not in it for the name or the fame. He is not in it to score some brownie points or to gain some recognition. He is there to serve and would do so come rain come shine.

There is a sense in which faithfulness is a sign that faith is present. In the parable of the miners, you will find the unfaithful servant was the one who did not believe in his master. He felt his master was a sham, one who sought to reap where he did not sow. He had no faith in his master. His unfaithfulness was a testament to that fact.

No matter how touching a Jack and Jane story might be, Jesus is not Jack. Jesus is Lord, we have every guarantee that what He says He will do, He will do. When He says I go to prepare a place for you (See John 15:1-2) you can count on it. A faithful servant to Jesus is a wise servant (See Matthew 24:45). Likewise, He has given us more than an ornament of remembrance, but rather He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide, help, reassure and bring to our remembrance everything that Jesus has taught.

Go into today committed to staying true to the Master’s call and plan for your life, no matter what it takes.

Good and Faithful Servant – What is Good?

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2594

Matthew 25:23 (WEB) His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things. I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord’

Rose was excited about the recent turn of events. She had received her largest commission yet from the marketing firm she worked with, Johnson had finally proposed over the weekend, and she was now staring at the letter of appointment to a bigger firm she had always dreamt of working with. She was giddy with joy.

She dialed Mena, her closest buddy, to share the good news with her but was less than impressed with her reception. Mena was excited for Rose but then she began to bring to Rose’s attention that the conditions of her appointment were going to mean that she would have little or no time for the service to God and even for herself. Rose protested that it didn’t matter because she will still be able to do a lot of good and charitable works with her new salary.

Who exactly is a good servant? What makes a servant good?

When considering matters of scripture, it is supremely important that we endeavor to mine the definition and description of words and concepts from the scripture itself and not from secular and popular usage.

The idea of ‘good’, as used in our text to describe the servant, refers not to a servant who has done charitable acts or one who has done “good things”, rather, it refers to a servant who is being true to his nature of being a servant the way the master wants, designed and desires him to be.

It is why one servant could be in the wilderness eating wild honey and locusts and garbed in raiment of camel’s hair preaching while another will be in the cities and towns teaching, preaching, and healing many and both would be good servants.

Being a good servant is about being true to the call of the Master. Jonah could do all charitable works and even tell the men of Tarshish tales of Yahweh and still not be good, this is because his call, and indeed his Master, demanded that he go to Nineveh and proclaim to them the word of the Lord. It is not about what you do, it is about being true to the call and demands of God upon your life.

Go into today determined to settle for nothing less than to fully follow the call and plan of God for your life.

Commendable Hatred

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2593
Revelation 2:6 (NET): But you do have this going for you: You hate what the Nicolaitans practice – practices I also hate

Right there in the cold Isles of Patmos, Apostle John was experiencing a sight so frightful that at some point he fainted. It was the vision of Jesus in his glory and splendor. He instructed John to write a letter to seven churches in Asia, he had warnings and commendations for the church. These letters, once more, give us a close-up inside look at how Jesus views things.

In the letter addressed to the church in Ephesus (See Revelation 2:1-7), Jesus commended them for their works, labor, and patience, then he scolded them for departing from their first love, and then again commended them, this time around, he commended them for what they hated. Jesus commended this church for hating the practices of the Nicolaitans because He himself hated their works also.

You see, the things you hate are as much an indication of where your heart is as much as the things you love. Our devotion to Jesus must regulate our desires and preferences such that we begin to love certain things and hate certain things as well.

It is an anomaly for you, a child of God, to love what Jesus hates. We must train ourselves to adopt his likes and dislikes through a conscious commitment to believe and walk in the truth the word of God reveals. Yours must be a continual work and walk of discovery and realignment of heart disposition under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

One might ask, but what exactly does Jesus hate? Hebrews 1 verse 9 will be a good place to start. It reads, “You have loved righteousness and hated iniquity; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with oil of gladness above your fellows”.

Go into today committed to loving what Jesus loves, and hating what he hates.

Working As One

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2592
1 Corinthians 3:8 (NET) The one who plants and the one who waters work as one, but each will receive his reward according to his work.

When Ebele started preaching the gospel on campus, he noticed that it was very easy for him to bring people to accept the Lord Jesus. Even the most hardened unbelievers were being convicted and repenting. Sometimes, there was the manifestation of the prophetic and the miraculous when he preached, and this made it even easier for him to bring people to see the light of the gospel. But Ebele noticed that it was not that easy for him to disciple the many people he had led to the Lord. This was a great concern for him.

He noticed that one of the brothers in the fellowship had a powerful teaching anointing and was also very successful in discipling people. He started drawing close to this brother and encouraging him to help disciple the many people that had come to the Lord through his preaching. Because of this arrangement, many of those who now believed remained in the Lord and grew greatly.

Many times, there has been a great harvest of souls through powerful gospel crusades and campaigns, but many of those new believers went back to the world because there was no proper "follow-up" and discipleship. There is a need for those who have the ministry to plant and those who have the ministry to water to begin to work as one. This is when we will take full advantage of the harvest that our Lord has paid for.

The ministries in the body of Christ can be divided into two departments. There are those who plant, and there are those who water. Every Christian must be involved in one of these.

Go into today remembering that everyone will be rewarded according to the work he has done. If you are not doing anything in this regard, it is time to wake up because you will give an account of your stewardship before the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, help me do my part in our kingdom advancement agenda. Deliver me from every form of slumber. Amen.

Life In The Spirit 2

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2591

Romans 7:21-23 (NET) So, I find the law that when I want to do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God in my inner being. But I see a different law in my members waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that is in my members.

Because Larry had explored a sinful life for long before he believed in the Lord Jesus, it was particularly difficult for him to live a victorious life above sin. He always wondered if it was possible for him to enjoy the victory over sin he knew was his portion in Christ. He knew what sin was because of the law of God he knew in his mind, it was only that he did not seem to have the ability to overcome it.

Larry started living in victory over sin after he learned certain important lessons from Romans 6-8.
He realized that it was not by the law but by the Spirit that he could put to death the works of the flesh. Because of his communion with brethren with whom he was accountable, his prayer life grew and he found that the more he prayed and was filled with the power of the Spirit, the more he had power over the power of the flesh. He now understood why the Lord instructed us in His word to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Larry started walking in the reality of victory over sin because he learned and understood how to be filled with the Spirit. His words, his thoughts, his joy in the Lord, his prayer discipline, his commitment to the ministry of the word, and his submission and fellowship with the brethren, kept his life filled with the Spirit and empowered over the power of sin.

Go into today remembering that the only way you can overcome the law of sin operating from the flesh is by employing the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus(Romans 8:1-2). For the believer, being filled with the Spirit(see Ephesians 5:19-21) is not a luxury, it is a necessity to activating the law of the Spirit of life and walking in the liberty of Christ.

Prayer: Lord, help me always be filled with your spirit and walk above the law of sin. Amen.

Life in the Spirit

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2590
Romans 7:5 (KJV) For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

The law operates within the domain of the mind and all this is ruled by the knowledge of Good and evil. So even though in the old creation, a man under the law of God is far better than a man ruled by his flesh and native impulses or any other human code, when the new creation came, it became an aberration for people to still cling to a life ruled by the law when they can live lives ruled by the Spirit of life.

Because we are still in a body of flesh, an understanding of the law would be a guide to help us know what the Spirit would never lead us to do, but our lives and hope of salvation should never be based on our ability to keep certain rules and regulations, but based on our relationship with the Spirit of the living God. The earnest/guarantee of our salvation is the Holy Spirit, not the law (see
Ephesians 1:14).

Those who subscribed to the law only found their minds trained to be more sophisticated and refined in their approach to sin. because of the flesh, the law did not have the power to kill sin in our hearts so it only helped to institutionalize it such that even though we are sinners we would be feeling self-righteous because we have convinced ourselves that we have not broken all God's law.

Go into today remembering that the biggest hindrance to a life of grace is a dependence on our ability to keep God's laws as the basis of our justification.

Prayer: Lord, help me live in the Spirit and bring forth fruits unto God(Romans 7:4).

Examine Yourself

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2589
2 Corinthians 13:5 (NET) Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless, indeed, you fail the test!
Seyi: Gloria, why are you always filled with joy in spite of all that is happening around us and in this country? It's like you don't even have any problem? Please tell me your secret. I want to have this hope and peace that you have.

Gloria: The Lord is the reason why I have peace. I have hope beyond what this world is offering. The Kingdom that I belong to will rule over this world very soon, and I have an inheritance in that kingdom. The power of that kingdom is already at work in me even now. That's why I have hope and joy. I don't know if things will get better in this country or in the world, but my portion in life is not tied to this country or even to this present world, that’s why my inner peace and joy is not affected by what is happening.

One of the ways to check and be sure that you're still in the faith is that your heart is still filled with the blessed hope of the Lord's return and the glory that shall be revealed in us(Titus 2:13). This glorious expectation keeps us holy and busy doing the will of the Lord who will reward us according to our works (Titus 2:13-14, 1 John 3:3, Rev 22:12). One of the things that the Holy Spirit does in us is to bring these things to the remembrance of our spirits, and keep us in a state of joyful expectation because we are sons of God.

If Christ no longer lives in a person, he will lose all hope. Christ in us is the hope of glory(Colossians 1:27). This hope is the reason why no matter what we face in this world, we still have joy and peace because we know that we are more than conquerors through Christ our Lord. In the end, we win. The devil does not have the power to touch our inheritance in Christ, it is way beyond him. This is the reason why no matter what the devil does, it should not affect our hope which produces rejoicing in our souls.

Go into today remembering to hallow the Lord God in your heart and always be ready to give an answer to those who ask you about the hope you possess(1 Peter 3:15).

Determine to do self-examination regularly and guard against the cares of this life that seek to snuff out the blessed hope you have in Christ.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for doing for me more than I could ever imagine. Help me remain in your love and bask in your peace. Let me never forget that for which you have apprehended me. Amen.

Fruitful in the knowledge of Christ 2

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2588
2 Peter 1:8 (NET) For if these things are really yours and are continually increasing, they will keep you from becoming ineffective and unproductive in your pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more intimately.

When Ben learned that his character really mattered and his failure to learn of Christ and model his character like that of Christ was costing him more than the criticism of men, he started making amendments, and almost immediately, he started seeing changes and fruitfulness in his pursuit of knowing the Lord more intimately. He observed that as his life started bearing the fruit of the spirit, his pursuit of knowing the Lord was also fruitful, and the grace(power) upon him was being multiplied(2 Peter 1:2).

Of the various fruits a person bears as proof of the life of God he has received, the fruit of the spirit is chief among them. But there are other fruits that we bear. Fruits like the one talked about in today's Bible verse which is multiplied grace; the fruit of communion with the Lord God. There is also the fruit of our lips which is sincere praise and worship (capable of executing judgment (Hebrews 13:15, Psalm 149:6-9)), and there is the fruit of prayer(John 15:7-8).

In order to begin to be fruitful in all areas, bearing the fruit of the spirit is key to this because from the spirit/heart flows the spring of life(Proverbs 4:23).

The fruit of the spirit produces Christian character, but the fruit produced as a result of knowing the Lord more intimately is multiplied grace and peace(see 2 Peter 1:2, 3:18). If you can become fruitful in that area of character, it would open the door to other forms of fruitfulness you also desire.

Go into today remembering that in order to be fruitful in every aspect of life, focus on the fruit of the spirit. If your spirit is healthy, your whole being will be full of life.

Prayer: Lord, help me learn of you and allow your word to dwell in me richly so I may be fruitful in every good work.

Fruitful in the knowledge of Christ

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2587
2 Peter 1:8 (NET) For if these things are really yours and are continually increasing, they will keep you from becoming ineffective and unproductive in your pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more intimately.

Ben wanted so much to know the Lord and walk in His mighty power. He learned that in order for this to happen, he was to be devoted to prayer and fasting, and the ministry of the Word.

He thus had a very good prayer schedule that included praying in the spirit for hours every day. He was always listening to sermons too. But as time passed, it became clear to Ben that he was not really fruitful in his pursuit of the knowledge of Christ. Grace wasn't multiplying in His life even though he did all these things in order to know the Lord more and walk more in His grace.

You see, even though Ben was devoting more time to spiritual disciplines, he was not building up his character. He was still the same deceptive, unloving, arrogant, and self-centered Ben. As he sought the Lord to find out why his pursuit of knowing Him was unfruitful, he found that the reason was that his character was not consistent with the nature of Christ.

One thing is clear in today's Bible verse above, it is possible for a person to be ineffective and unproductive in his pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more intimately. If you read 2 Peter 2 from verse 5, you will see that we are to keep adding virtues to ourselves. We are to add excellence to our faith, knowledge to excellence, self-control to knowledge, perseverance to self-control, godliness to perseverance, brotherly affection to godliness, and unselfish love to brotherly affection. Refusing to keep building up our Christian character is the reason why people may be given to a lot of spiritual disciplines that would have helped them know the Lord more and experience multiplied grace, but it doesn't happen.

Go into today remembering that if you have the spirit and character of Christ, it would be very easy to fellowship with Him and grow in grace.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to be like Jesus in my heart. Deliver me from everything that hinders me from this goal.

Appropriating the Promise of His Manifest Presence

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2586

Matthew 28:18-20 (NET) Then Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Dorine had a reputation for being one of the best dermatologists in her city. As a doctor who had the trust of her patients, she could talk to them and they would listen. Many would try to talk to her about personal issues medical science cannot fix, and she would show them the light that she had found in Christ Jesus. It was through her that a very notorious pop star in that city came to know the Lord. She was able to disciple him and he was now known to be a preacher of the gospel. Many very high profile people like him that wouldn't have listened to the gospel from a preacher were led to the Lord through her because the peace of God radiated through her life and her patients wanted to know about the hope that was the source of such peace(see 1 Peter 3:15). As time passed, Dorine understood why the Lord made her a doctor, gave her exceptional skills, and planted her in that strategic city - she was there to be a witness unto Him.

The most important thing you can be found doing under the sun is making disciples of Jesus Christ. This is the way by which our lives would be measured when we stand before the judgment seat of Christ(2 Corinthians 5:10). We must never lose focus on our agenda. In order to do this effectively, God plants us in different places as His kingdom advancement agents. Some of us are preachers and teachers while most of us aren't. But we are all expected to be witnesses unto the Lord wherever we find ourselves and in whatever jobs we do. Our work is to be witnesses unto the Lord.

Go into today remembering that as you determine to be a witness unto the Lord in the most usual and unusual places, you are guaranteed of His unbreakable fellowship and tangible presence. He promises that He will be with us always(see Matthew 20:20). This promise is appropriated by those who are committed to His kingdom’s advancement agenda of making disciples everywhere.

Prayer: Thank the Lord for the opportunity to be a bearer of his life. Ask the Lord for wisdom and grace to be an effective soul winner in whatever place He has planted you.

Quickened to New Life

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2585
Ephesians 2:1-2 (KJV) And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience
Anyone who has not accepted Christ is still under the dominion of Satan the prince of the power of the air. It is interesting that apostle Paul refers to Satan this way.

In the Greek world, they understood very well the power of elemental spirits and how they controlled the elements. There are water elementals, fire elementals, land/earth elementals, and one more. These spirits were considered to have control over the elements, and they can use their power to manipulate those operating within their sphere of influence. The devil, who is their master is called the prince of the power of the air. He seeks to control everywhere there is air-- the whole earth. The only power that can deliver a person from his influence and control is the power of Christ.

As long as he breathes air, anyone who is not in Christ is ultimately under the control of the prince of the power of the air, whether he likes it or not.

Just like physically, we breathe air without ceasing, those who are in christ survive and have power over the kingdom of darkness by praying without ceasing-- that’s how we breathe spiritually. We practice the presence of God everywhere we go. Just like we feed on food and water physically to survive, those who are in Christ survive and have power over the influence of elemental spirits by feeding their spirits with God’s word. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4).

Because they don't only exist through their flesh life(that depends on the elements) but are now sustained through the life of the spirit, those who are in Christ can overcome the prince of the power of the air. The life that truly sustains us does not draw its power from the elements but from God.

Go into today remembering that if you must live above the influence of elemental spirits, you must be deliberate and intentional in your commitment to prayer and the ministry of the word.

Prayer: Lord, help me live by the spirit and fulfill your purpose for me. Amen.

Conquering Fear

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2584

Psalms 23:4 (KJV) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Danladi accepted the Lord Jesus when he was in the military because of the way some of his Christian colleagues were bold and unafraid in the midst of the enemy fire. When he was away in war with some of his colleagues, he observed that they were full of courage and confidence and were not afraid of untimely death even in the midst of the fiercest battle. Donald was particularly one guy he liked fighting side by side with because he always felt safe when he was with him. Most other soldiers were afraid and the fear could be felt, but these Christian soldiers were always quoting Bible verses like Psalm 23 and their courage was contagious. After they were deployed back home from battle, Danladi decided to become a Christian because he was convicted by the faith of his Christian colleagues.

Unfortunately, unlike Danladi’s colleagues, there are many Christians who fear exactly the way unbelievers fear because they do not understand that if the Lord is their shepherd then He would be with them even if they walk through the darkest valley. Because of this fear, they disconnect from the grace and covering of the Lord(Hebrews 11:6). The victory with which we overcome the dark forces of this world is appropriated through our faith. Continued fear is usually an indication of failing faith.

Go into today remembering that if you truly believe that the Lord is with you, it is an insult on Him to be constantly afraid of what the enemy can do to you. The reason why we shouldn't live fearful lives as believers is that we understand that the Lord is with us.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to forgive every faithlessness in your heart and give you the understanding never again to live in fear.

Brought Into Life

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2583
Ephesians 2:1‭-‬2 (GNT) In the past you were spiritually dead because of your disobedience and sins. At that time you followed the world's evil way; you obeyed the ruler of the spiritual powers in space, the spirit who now controls the people who disobey God.

Before David accepted the Lord Jesus, he lived a very busy life full of sin. He attended all the happening parties and was a member of the most notorious and prestigious club in his city. Almost every weekend was another party where he and his friends would display how much money they've got. But after he accepted the Lord Jesus, he realized that even though his life was full of activities, he was spiritually dead before he received new life in Christ.

As he grew in his knowledge of God and the kingdom, he realized that indeed he was now spiritually alive towards God. He could fellowship with almighty God and walk in the reality of the new life. Unlike when he was spiritually dead, he found that he was no more afraid of death and failure. He was living in liberty and had a purpose for life. He was now living for a purpose that was bigger than himself and was no more condemned to the system of vanity(Ecclesiastes 1:12). The closer he was to Lord and the eyes of his understanding enlightened, the more grateful he was to be part of the kingdom of God and the more valuable the kingdom became to him. No sacrifice was too great for him to make in order to win the prize for which Christ Jesus has already won him to Himself(Philippians 3:12).

Unlike many Christians today, David's walk with the Lord was very fruitful because his eyes were set on the prize for which Christ won him to Himself. He knew that there was a race to be run and victories to be won. He understood that Christ called him to inherit crowns and thrones as a reward for faithful service, but he understood that in order for him to truly inherit these, he needed to do the work for which he was ordained.

Jesus did not just save us to escape hellfire, he brought us into his kingdom and He has expectations of us. He has ordained unto us eternal thrones that we would only be able to inherit when we fulfill our assignments in this side of eternity. An understanding of this will keep us on our feet serving the Lord with all we've got. Time here is short and it's all we've got to make investments into eternity.

Go into today remembering that we would all stand before the judgment seat of Christ one day and receive our rewards. On that day, all that would matter is what manner of lives we lived in pleasing the Lord and fulfilling His purpose.

Prayer: Lord, help me find my unique place in you and be fruitful in your body. Please help me never forget that I'm on a mission here. Amen.

The Believer's Mindset

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2582
Galatians 3:13-14 (NET) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.

Jim, Andrew, and Benjamin were close friends in college. With time, Andrew who was a believer observed that Benjamin had a certain sense of superiority. He actually believed that he was better than everyone around him and that whatever he did would prosper. As Andrew continued to observe, he noticed that Benjamin believed so much that he would be successful and excel in what he does because he was a Jew and he believed that he walked in the blessing. As things turned out before everyone's eyes, Benjamin was always the most successful one in the lot.

It was clear to Andrew that there was a spiritual force working for the favor and success of Benjamin in all things. As Andrew studied the scriptures and prayed about this, he found that as a believer in Christ, he had more access to the blessing of Abraham than a Jew who does not believe in Christ. What the unbelieving Jew has is the shadow, but what the believer in Christ (whether Jew or Gentile) has is the fullness of the blessing. This blessing produces peace and prosperity and gives us the inheritance of eternal life.

As Andrew changed his mindset, and like Benjamin, started believing that he was blessed indeed, he noticed that the blessings started manifesting in his life. He even noticed that the manifestation of God's grace and blessing in his life was stronger than what Benjamin had enjoyed all these years.

Go into today remembering that in Christ, you have the fullness of God's blessing and have been redeemed from all curses. This blessing is activated in your life by faith. Start expecting things to work well because of you. It is the expectation of the righteous that is not cut short, not merely his desires.

Prayer: Lord, help me walk the earth with the right mindset. Order my steps in Your word. Amen.

Benefits of Serving the Lord

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2581
Isaiah 54:17 (NET) No weapon forged to be used against you will succeed; you will refute everyone who tries to accuse you. This is what the Lord will do for his servants – I will vindicate them,” says the Lord.

When Kara was working in the city and living in the suburbs, unlike most of her colleagues, she got to the office and started work very early but closed as early as she could because she didn't want to miss evening fellowships in the church. She was thus committed to attending church meetings because she understood that she was first and foremost a servant of almighty God.

Unlike her, most of her colleagues came to work late and also closed really late because they didn't have such commitments to church as she did. Because of this (closing from work late), many of them would fraternize and go from the office to bars and clubs and parties while Kara was either at home with her family or in church with her bigger family.

The time came for promotion and Kara was the most qualified to be promoted as head of her department. Her records were impeccable and she was very efficient at her job. But Ben, her immediate boss who was to approve her promotion, was not willing to do so because he wanted Joe, who was his clubbing buddy, to get the promotion instead. They discussed this among themselves in the club and decided that the best way to prevent Kara from the promotion was for Ben to issue her a query. This he did promptly. Even though the query was unjustifiable, it was so cleverly written that it took the wisdom of God for Kara to refute it.

When Kara read the frivolous query her immediate boss gave her, she understood exactly what was going on. She remembered today's scripture and had the boldness that it applied to her because she could identify ways in which she was serving the Lord. The Lord gave her wisdom to respond to the query, and her response revealed that her boss wrote that query for no justifiable reason. Because she copied the chief executive of the organization in the email with which she responded to the query (since she knew he was going to see everything during the promotion interview), the chief read the query and her response and as a result, issued Ben a serious query for giving such a diligent worker that frivolous and unjustifiable query.

By the time God was through with Kara's enemies in that organization, they were all very afraid of her and she became promoted above them. All these benefits accrued to her because she was a servant of the Lord who knew her rights in the Lord.

Go into today remembering that because you're a servant of the Lord, you will refute every tongue risen up against you in judgment, whether spiritually or physically. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord. God is the one who vindicates His servants.

If you're not sure if you're a servant of the Lord, it is not too late to begin to live a life that exists for the purpose of the kingdom.

Prayer: Lord, help me serve you and walk in all my privileges as your servant.

Not Worthy To Be Compared

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2580
Romans 8:18 (KJV) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

If you think about who God is and all His has, it is simply too awesome for our 1.5kg brain to fully comprehend. Yet, we are going to inherit all that belongs to God as heirs of God through Christ Jesus(Romans 8:7, Revelation 21:7).

What we know is that we shall be as He is because we shall see Him face to face(1 John 3:2). We shall rule and reign with Him and even judge the angels(see 1 Corinthians 6:3). We shall inherit all things (Revelation 21:7).

Even though we know that it is those who live for Christ and [are willing to] suffer for Him that would be counted worthy to reign with Him in glory, it is foolishness to think that our suffering for Him is able to earn us His eternal glory. The sufferings of this present time cannot be compared to the glory. If we suffered for Christ to the point of death in one billion lifetimes, it still wouldn't be sufficient to earn the glory that we would receive.

God is not interested in our suffering, He is interested in our faithfulness. It is just that being faithful to Him would require denial of the flesh and may incur persecution from those still controlled by the Prince of this present world who is an enemy of Christ. As you are reading this Devotional today, many of our brethren in Pakistan, parts of India, and the Middle East are experiencing great persecution because of their faith in Christ. Many in the middle east are even denied passports so that they cannot get visas to flee their countries where they are being persecuted for their faith. Even in certain parts of northern Nigeria today, believers who are qualified for promotion in public service are denied a promotion because they are believers. Qualified students are denied admission into government-owned subsidized tertiary institutions because they have Christian names. We can go on and on, but the point is this: those who would not deny the faith because of worldly pressures are proving that they are faithful in the little, and much more would be given to them (Luke 16:10-12). They would rule and reign with the Lord in the eternal kingdom that is coming to sweep away every other kingdom in this earth.

Go into today asking the Lord for the grace to be faithful to Him in the face of pressures.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help to be faithful to you until the end. Please help me to not miss my eternal reward but reign with you in glory on that day. Amen.

No To Slavery

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2578
Romans 6:15-16 (NET) What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not! Do you not know that if you present yourselves as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or obedience resulting in righteousness?

Because Tom understood that the grace of God was abundant and because of it there was always forgiveness of sins in God, he started flirting with sin and invoking grace. He didn't take him long to realize that he was now a slave to certain sins he used to enjoy. Even though he wanted to be free, he found that he did not have the ability to break free.

If a believer willfully gives himself to any sin for a period of time, that sinful work of the flesh will ultimately open the door to the dominion of demons that impose that sin. And when this happens, such a person would become a slave to that kind of sin. This is the kind of situation that would require deliverance. And in certain cases, the person involved may have to confess to another believer who will help administer deliverance to him.

Go into today remembering that sin of any kind is never to be allowed to continue in the life of a believer because it leads to spiritual slavery to darkness.
Prayer Confession: Sin shall have no dominion over me in Jesus' name.

Serving the Lord: Key to Divine Health

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2577

Exodus 23:25 (KJV) And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

Dante was so sickly that the health insurance company sent him an email saying that they could no longer keep up with his medical bills and he would have to upgrade his insurance plan.

After he accepted the Lord Jesus, he learned the word of God and realized that the Lord would bless his food and water and take sickness and disease away from him. This was yet another motivation to serve the Lord. He became committed to the service of the Lord in his local church. Because of this, he had boldness and faith that the Lord was going to preserve him from his frequent illnesses. As he continued in the word and refused to change his confessions of faith, he found that he was no longer a sickly person. He now enjoyed divine health.

For Dante, serving the Lord was what preserved his life from untimely death.

Today's Bible verse contains a covenant promise of God. As we commit to serving the Lord in truth, He will bless our food and water and take sickness and disease away from us. It is possible to think you're serving the Lord when indeed you are not. Serving the Lord must be done at His terms and in His way.

Go into today remembering that one sure way to enjoy divine health is to be sure that you are serving the Lord in truth. A person serving his belly but who thinks he is serving the Lord may not be able to benefit from the covenant promise in today's main text.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to serve you acceptably. Deliver from the distraction of worldliness. Amen.

You Shall Not Be Afraid

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2576

Psalms 91:5-6 (NKJV)You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

When Nike traveled to her village for the first time, she was already 27 years old and now born again. She needed to attend her grandfather’s burial.

It turned out that her parents were not wrong in their fear of going to the village because the first night Nike spent in that village, a demon was sent to afflict her with an incurable disease. Because Nike had the ability to see visions and walk in the prophetic, she saw in a dream how an old man and a witch joined powers to summon a demon that was to afflict her with a disease in the night. Their plan was that she would travel back to the city before noticing the symptoms of the incurable disease. But because Nike was under the shadow of the Almighty, the demon couldn't come near her and had to return to the persons that sent it. She noticed the following day that certain women were now so afraid of coming near her and could not even look at her face. This was obvious to other people too.

Many diseases and afflictions are spiritually inflicted on people before they begin to see the physical manifestations. The word of God for you today is 'you shall not be afraid of the pestilence that walks in darkness nor the destruction that wastes at noonday'. None of the diseases afflicting people will come near you because you are under the shadow of the Almighty.

Go into today believing God's word and knowing that you are covered from the evils distributed by evil spirits.

Confession: I am under the shadow of the Almighty. No evil shall befall me and no disease shall come near me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Zeal Alone Is Not Enough

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2575
Matthew 23:15 (KJV) “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves."

As long as Jesus was alive, Peter followed him and showed himself on so many occasions to be a man full of zeal. Because of his audacity, he walked on water (Matthew 14:28-29), rebuked Jesus (Matthew 16:22), promised to never forsake him (Matthew 26:33, 35) etcetera, but he failed in all of the instances; he sank in the water, advocated for Satan and denied Jesus. Peter never stopped failing until he was empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Today's text shows how passionate the scribes and Pharisees were in their evangelism, how they would travel very long distances both on land and sea to win a convert. The result was however disheartening; their converts were made twofold the sons of hell. The reason for this malady was simple, they were not sent by God hence they lacked his empowerment.

Zeal or passion alone does not make one a man of God, even the Pharisees and Scribes won converts by their zeal, yet they were themselves children of hell.

Being around Jesus, his church and men also does not make one a servant of God. Only the people commissioned by God can serve Him and this commissioning is by the Holy Spirit.

The end of every passion or zeal that is devoid of the power of God is a failure, no man can do the work of God without the help of God. "For it is God which worketh in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV). God must be working in you for your service to please Him.

Go into today knowing that zeal is useful only after you have been commissioned and empowered by God.

Prayer: check if you are doing a work in the name of God which is powered only by zeal alone, repent, stop the work and seek God's empowerment.

Living By Faith

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2574
Mark 4:31 (NKJV)[The kingdom of God] is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth
Luke 17:21
…the kingdom of God is within you.

If you plant a mustard seed, everything about the tree including the fruits it will bear and the huge size it will attain is encoded into that seed. As the seed begins to grow day by day, its real nature is revealed in the plant. Everything the tree will ever become has been encoded in that seed.

When you received Christ as Lord and Savior, you received the righteousness of God in your Spirit. This seed of God in your Spirit is incorruptible (see 1 Peter 1:23). God’s plan is that as you live out your life here on earth by faith, His righteousness within you is revealed. ”For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; it is written, ‘the just shall live by faith’” (Rom 1:17). As you live by faith, the righteousness of God in your spirit is revealed, just like the nature of the mustard seed is revealed as it is allowed to grow.

Any believer who does not live by faith will not let the righteousness of God deposited in his spirit to be revealed. He will be unfruitful. Remember that God's expectation is fruitfulness (John 15:16, Luke 8:4-8).

The righteousness that counts before God is the righteousness of God, not the righteousness of man. The righteousness of man is a result of man’s work in obeying laws, but the righteousness of God is the fruit produced when believers live by faith (walk in the Spirit). A believer who lives by faith obeys God's instructions, not because he thinks that they are the reason he is justified, he obeys them because he understands that he already has a relationship with God because of Christ Jesus. A child obeys his father not so that he can become his father's child but because he is already his father's child.

Go into today thanking God for the gift of His righteousness in your Spirit.
Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you live by faith and be fruitful.

Matthew 8:9 (KJV) “For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it."

" Forget it, I am not going to bring myself that low after I have served faithfully as the Pastor of a mega church for ten years, is this the reward I will get? No! I'm not going to that small church, I won't accept this humiliation; God forbid!" This was Ray's response when he was transferred to pastor a small church in a local community.

Merriam Webster Dictionary defines service as the work performed by one that serves. The one that serves is called a servant and it is from this that the sentence “servant of God" emanated. Effective service is impossible when you do not see yourself as a servant. Usually, the one you are serving may disappoint you, but if you are a servant you will know that you have no right except the right given you by your master.

“So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do" (Luke 17:10 KJV).

At its best, a servant who does not see himself as profitable has no sense of entitlement. His master determines what job he must do, how he must do it, and when he must do such a job. If a servant intends to be a faithful servant, his response must be a simple “yes sir”.

If God is your Master, your response to His instructions must always be a “yes sir" if you intend to serve with a true heart.

Go into today knowing that it is rebellion that makes a servant contest the instructions of his master and the consequences of such disobedience are always grievous.

Prayer: I choose to be an obedient servant who will no longer contest with God's instructions in Jesus' name. Amen!

The Attitude of Acceptable Service 2

Psalms 100:2-3 (KJV) Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Gerald knew that he was called to serve the Lord, but he observed that his work for the Lord was not very fruitful. He had friends who were more fruitful and effective than him. He was not comparing himself with them, but he understood that his lack of fruitfulness was not God's plan for him, so he decided to humble himself and learn from them.

After spending some time with one of them, one of the things he observed was that unlike him, his friend was very positive and joyful in his approach to serving the Lord. The three days they spent together, he never heard him complain about anything but only giving thanks. He also observed that his friend was a very positive person who always had a way of seeing the good in people and situations.

As Gerald meditated on the differences between his approach to ministry and that of his friend, the Lord revealed to him that his service was not fruitful because he was not serving with gladness but grudgingly with complaints and without the joy of the Lord. Joy is a catalyst for divine prosperity and strength (Isaiah 12:3).

The Lord does not give us commandments to do things that we would do naturally. The reason why He tells us to serve Him with gladness is that the natural tendency of man is to serve as a chore. It becomes incumbent upon us to discipline ourselves to rejoice in the Lord always and determine to fill our hearts with only things that are of a good report so that we can serve the Lord with joy in our hearts.

Go into today remembering that the way to serve the Lord acceptably is with a cheerful heart. Even in the midst of tribulation, our Lord commands us to be of good cheer because He has overcome the world (John 16:33).

Prayer: Lord, help me learn the discipline of focusing on what is good and being thankful always. Deliver me from the temptation of always complaining and criticizing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

You Shall Not Be Afraid 2

Proverbs 28:1 (KJV) The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
Eleojo entered her office and thanked the Lord for a brand new day. She wanted to sit down on her chair when she saw the charm and dead tortoise on it. She was so shocked that she screamed ‘Jesus’ at the top of her voice. Minutes later, the man who placed the charm came to her office. His name was Sani.

Sani: Good morning, madam. I just heard you scream. Hope all is well?

Eleojo: (already comfortably seated on that same office chair) Good morning sir. I’m fine. How is your wife?

Sani: (perplexed to see her seated on the chair and looking so relaxed) I… I... heard you shouting. I...

Eleojo: I saw these charms in my office (pointing to the dustbin). The initial shock made me scream so loud. I’m sorry for alarming everyone.

Sani: but why are you sitting in the same chair you saw the charm. Shouldn't you avoid it?

Eleojo: God that is in me is far greater than the spirits that follow charms. Wait… how did you know it was on my chair?

Sani: I… I… just guessed. I…

Eleojo: (cuts in) the person who put it on my chair did so to hinder me from my seat in this office. I will not cooperate with that person.

Eleojo got the promotion the following week.

Eleojo was bold because she was filled with the Spirit and conscious of her righteousness in Christ.
Many Christians are not bold because their consciences are defiled with guilt. You need a clear conscience to be bold like a lion.

Go into today remembering that all power in heaven and on earth now belongs to Christ (Mat 28:18). His people live by this truth and do not fear the power of the enemy.

You Shall Not Be Afraid

Psalms 91:5 (NKJV)You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day

When Eleojo realized how far some people in her office would go to get promoted, she started getting afraid when she and six other people were due for the next big promotion.
Unknown to her, knowing that she was the most qualified for the promotion, her enemies in that office tried several times to attack her by sending demonic spiritual arrows. But they failed each and every time.

The sorcerer of one of them gave him a very scary-looking charm and a dead tortoise to secretly sneak into Eleojo’s office. The only purpose of this charm was to bring fear into her heart because they knew charms wouldn’t work on her. They wanted her to lose her peace and start living in fear when she sees the charm and tortoise. They understood that it would be easier for them to attack her when she is living in fear because fear opens the door for demons.

The first part of today's Bible verse says 'you shall not be afraid… '
In this life, there are many things that would seek to make you afraid, but remember that if you are in the secret place of the most high, you will abide under His protection. The enemy sends thoughts and imaginations calculated to keep us in fear because he understands that if he can keep us in fear, we can be defeated.

Go into today remembering that constant fear creates a spiritual atmosphere that makes it conducive for demons to operate. Living in Constant fear is a declaration of faithlessness. The victory that overcomes the [dark powers of this] world is your faith (see 1 John 5:4).

Prayer: Lord, help me overcome all my fears. Help me walk in your living faith. Amen.

The Attitude of Acceptable Service

Click here for the Audio Version: https://bit.ly/aud2569
Psalms 100:1-3 (KJV)
1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Clara observed that Isabel had a more fruitful prayer life and communion with the Lord. There was a time she traveled with Isabel for a wedding and they had to stay together for more than a day. That was when Clara understood why Isabel's prayer life was so fruitful.

Clara observed that unlike her, Helen always approached prayer with a thankful and praiseful attitude of the heart. She was always joyful in dealing with the Lord even when one expected her to be heavy. This was her secret of fruitful communion with the Lord.

When Aaron the priest of God lost his first two sons in the same day, the Lord did not permit him and his other two sons to mourn the traditional way people mourned in that culture(see Leviticus 10:6). This was because they were priests unto the Most High God and there is an acceptable demeanor of service in God's house. They were not to serve the Lord with a mournful demeanor. This truth has evaded many believers today who themselves are priests(1 Pet 2:9). Like Clara, they spend a good portion of their time with God with a mournful attitude of complaints. They forget that the Lord that commanded that they serve Him with gladness is very aware of their problems.

In today's Bible verse we see that we are expected to serve the Lord with gladness and come before His presence with singing. The reason is that He is God and He knows our challenges. When we appear before Him with joy even though there are reasons for us to be sorrowful, He knows and He sees our problems even if we don't wear them on our hearts and faces.

Many who disregard this protocol of dealing with the Lord might find that their communion with the Lord is not as fruitful as it should be. Your Grace and power comes from the place of communion.

Go into today remembering to obey the Holy Spirit's command to rejoice in the Lord always(Philippians 4:4). When God gives us commandments like this, it usually is because the opposite is normal for most people, so we are expected to be deliberate and intentional about not acting in the flesh. The next time you approach the throne of God, don't greet Him with your worries and problems, greet Him with thanksgiving and praise. This is the acceptable way of worship and fruitful communion.

Prayer: Lord, help me always remember to serve you with gladness.
