Isaiah 10:27 (NIV)
27 In that day their burden will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you have grown so fat.

As Laide started applying her heart to the word of God and allowing it transform her by the renewing of her mind, she observed that she started knowing the Lord and was now able to discern His will(Rom 12:2). She also observed that because of this, she was now too big for the chains that held her bound in the past. The yokes in her life were now broken because she had grown spiritually too fat for them. This spiritual fatness came because she had been feasting on the word of God (she continued in His word).

Jesus told those who believed in Him that if they continued in His word, they would be His disciples indeed, and then they would know the truth, and the truth will set them free (see John 8:31-32).

Those who continue in His word are those who are truly the Lord’s disciples, and they are the ones who can know Him who is the Truth (see John 14:6, 1 John 5:6). This knowledge brings spiritual liberty. The Truth is a reality that is only encountered in [the knowledge of] Christ. This is eternal life; it is the reality that makes all other things but shadows in the light of His presence.

Go into today remembering that abiding in His word and letting it change the way you think is the way to know Him and walk in spiritual liberty.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to expose you to more resources that will help you abide in His word and grow in the knowledge of The Truth.

John 8:31-32 (KJV)
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

What perplexed Laide was how some people who were believers and committed to the church were still under demonic yokes and ancestral bondages. For example, her uncle was a minister in a Pentecostal church, but he died mysteriously. It was later rumored in their village that he was killed by some witches who had a connection with his family. These kinds of things were happening.

Laide herself believed in Jesus, but she was not truly free. Her life was a battle. Demons still had power over her.

Jesus told certain Jews who believed in him that if they continued in His word, then they would be His disciples, and then they would know the truth, and the truth will set them free. Remember that Jesus introduced himself as the Truth in John 14:6 (also see John 5:6).

These Jews were people who believed in Jesus already, but like Laide, they were not yet free. They were not yet free from the power of sin [and death]; they were not yet free from bondages of the past. Jesus gave them the remedy. He told them to continue in His word. This was how they would become his disciples, and only His disciples can truly know Him (the Truth; the reality). Disciples are those who have been converted from goats to sheep; they are those transformed by the renewing of their mind through the word (Rom 12:2). They are those who obey their Lord in all things.

1 John 2:4 (KJV)
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (To be continued)

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

I watched as a little girl interacted with their housemaid with regards to watching the television. When no one was looking, the maid who normally would not hang around in the sitting room would change the channel to a program of her choice, and if the little girl requested to watch cartoons, the maid would just hush her to keep quiet. This was the case until the little girl got fed up and went to her parents' room. When she came out, she declared boldly "Daddy said you should change the channel to my cartoon program". It was as though her daddy spoke. For as the words left the little girl's mouth, the maid immediately changed the channel and quickly left the sitting room.

The Greek word for "two-edged" used in qualifying God's Word in our scripture text is "distomos", which literally means "two mouthed". The Word of God must flow from God's mouth as it is written, through our own mouths for its transforming power to be physically seen in our lives or that of others.

Speaking idle words will see us hushed and mocked at by the enemy, but if just like the little girl, we enter into God’s presence and by faith, declare God's Word with authority (Isa 55:11, 2Cor 4:13), the enemy has no choice but to comply, release all that belongs to us and flee.

Go into today remembering that Understanding this dynamic is crucial to our being able to enforce our rights in Christ over contrary circumstances.

Ephesians 5:3 (KJV)
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

What would you do if you paid some money into a contractor’s account for a building project and instead he uses the money to set up a plantain plantation? Certainly, you won’t be all smiles, and neither will you be giving him a bear hug, simply because the money was never his to spend as he wishes.

In the same vein, your body is not your own, you have been bought with a price (1 Cor 6:18, 19). Your body belongs to God and He has said that it is not for fornication (1 Cor 6:13) and that fornication should not be once named among us saints. In Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 5:3-5 and Col 3:3-5, the Bible warns believers not to give themselves to fornication/sexual sins, warning that those who give themselves to and practice these things have no inheritance in the Kingdom of God.

The scripture instructs the believer on how to walk in victory over these.

Gal 5:16
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

To walk in the Spirit is to walk in the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-25), so walk in love and not in lust.

Also, guard your heart.

Prov 4:23
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

a. Guard it by the word of God (Psalm 119:9 Rom 12:2) Give yourself to the word and allow it renew your mind.

b. Guard it by cutting off wrong influences (1 Cor 5:9-11; Matt 5:27-30, 1 Cor 15;33)

It is a scriptural prescription that we keep no company with a believer who is given to fornication (see 1 Cor 5:11).

Go into today knowing that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and that is not for fornication, but rather for serving God.

1 Corinthians 12:7-8 KJV
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. [8] For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

In the Bible account of the exploits of Daniel (Daniel 2:10-49), we see that as a child of God, Daniel already possessed wisdom ten times better than all the king's magicians (Dan 1:17-20) and was already operating in wisdom towards the king and his guards (Dan 2:14-16) when suddenly, a problem came that required a special kind of wisdom. He and his companions sought God earnestly for its manifestation (Dan 2:17-23).

Many believers feel that being baptized in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues is all that there is to the Power and Wisdom of God. In salvation we obtained an innate wisdom to solve life's problems (Prv 9:10, 1Cor1:30 ), but there are special problems that would require a unique and special manifestation of God's wisdom for their solution and is for this kind of wisdom we deliberately desire, prepare and ask God for in prayer (Acts 19:8-12, Mk 9:20-29, 1Cor 14:1).

Even the disciples, after Pentecost, prayed for this special display of wisdom (Acts 4:24-31). Since the Gospel remains unchanged, it is therefore scriptural and inseparable to our great commission that we desire wisdom to miraculously solve special problems, so that we might win over the unsaved just like the disciples did (Mk 6:2, Mk 16:15-18).

Today, decide not to be complacent but instead desire, pray for, and live a godly life conducive for the Holy Spirit to manifest His wisdom and power through.

1 Cor 6:18-19 (MSG)
18 There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for "becoming one" with another.

The sense in which sexual sins are different from others is that it violates the sacredness of your body. It is about the believer’s body. It is the crux of the matter; your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

1 Cor 6:19
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

God doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands (Acts 7:7:48), he now indwells the believer through the person of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16, 17; 1 John 4:4).

You have been bought with a price, that price is the life/blood of Jesus. The Old Testament law was strict and stringent on the honoring/defilement of the tabernacle/temple and transgression then could be met with death.

The sin/act of fornication is a spiritual mystery that transcends just the physical, a joining of sorts occurs when you engage in sexual intercourse (1 Cor 6:16 MSG). When you engage in sexual intercourse outside the provisions of God; WHICH IS MARRIAGE, you violate his command, circumvent his wisdom and defile His temple. When you take your body and join it with another, you are taking that which belongs to God and using it unlawfully; you are abusing the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Go into today knowing that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and that keeping it undefiled is the will of God.

1 Thess 4:3 (KJV)
3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication

It was in secondary school, an all-boys school one afternoon that a debate of sorts came up, with one of the boys declaring that though the Bible clearly speaks against adultery, it says no such thing against fornication, referring of course to the Ten Commandments. The text above clearly refutes that erroneous and false teaching.

Have you noticed that even though we are asked to resist the devil (James 4:7), and to take our stand against principalities and powers (Eph 6:12-18), we are asked to flee fornication/sexual sins? It should interest you to know that when we resist the devil he flees away from us, but we are the ones charged to flee from this work of the flesh. But what exactly is fornication you might ask.

The word fornication is translated in the New Testament mostly from the Greek word porneia. It refers to illicit sexual intercourse, such as adultery, sexual intercourse between two unmarried people, homosexuality, lesbianism, and intercourse with animals. Some Bible versions simply call it sexual immorality. What’s more, the New Testament is replete with warnings/instructions concerning this. Here are some of them:
Acts 15:20 & 29 says to abstain from fornication,
1 Corinthians 5:9 says to keep no company with a fornicator,
1 Corinthians 6:18 says to flee fornication,
1 Corinthians 10:8 says to ‘neither let us commit adultery’,
Ephesians 5:3 says let it not once be named among us believers,
Colossians 3:5 (TLB) says to have nothing to do with sexual sins,
1 Thessalonians 4:3 charges us to abstain from fornication, and
2 Timothy 2:22 says to flee youthful lusts.

Go into today armed with the understanding that it is God’s will for you to abstain from sexual sins.

Colossians 2:6 (KJV)
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him.

One way Bimpe knew she was falling spiritually was that she could no longer pray the way she always prayed. She also observed that she no longer had the strength to do the spiritual things she used to do before. She used to be very committed to evangelism and follow up. There were certain young girls she used to actively pray for and follow up, but she found that she now considered all these an unbearable burden. Added to this, something happened that showed her how spiritually impoverished she had become. She was confronted by a colleague who was involved in the occult, and she found that she was deeply afraid of his threats because there was no more power in her spirit. This was unthinkable when she was still in the country. Such people feared her and some of them became her converts.

Bimpe also observed that new temptations and lusts started becoming stronger and stronger in her heart. This was when she knew she had to take decisive action. She left that new church and took out some time to seek the Lord in prayer and fasting.

She made up her mind that the demonic powers and rulers in the city would not reduce her to a loaf of bread. She went back to her old sermon notes and revised her understanding of the kingdom of God the way she once and for all received it. This was how she was saved from the corruption of that city that had reduced many believers to spiritually powerless noisemakers.

Go into today asking the Lord to deliver you from everything that seeks to reduce you and render you fruitless in your pursuit of the knowledge of God (see 2 Pet 1:8).

Colossians 2:6 (KJV)
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him

When Bimpe moved to the city, she started attending a church where they taught a lot of ‘new things’. Before she got to the city, she had received Christ as her Lord and Savior and was growing and having a very fruitful walk with the Lord. But as she started attending this new church, she realized that what they were teaching was different from what she had always known about Christ and His kingdom. It sounded really exciting and comforting to the flesh, but she was not comfortable because these teachings were contrary to the ones that got her saved and established in Christ.

After experiencing serious leanness in her soul because she started following these doctrines, it was clear to her that she was now following the wrong teachers.

Colossians 2:8 (KJV) says: Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

This is becoming increasingly popular today. Many people have been deceived by doctrines based on human philosophy and tradition. Their understanding of God’s kingdom has been shaped by human tradition. They forget that God's ways are not man’s ways (Isaiah 55:8). For example, what good father would allow his only son to suffer and die the way Jesus did? Using human logic and tradition, it would be difficult to believe in the divinity and sacrifice of Jesus.

Those who try to use human logic and traditions to understand the kingdom of God will end up in very serious errors.

Go into today remembering that you are to continue in Christ the way you received him. Avoid new ‘highly logical’ doctrines that contradict the foundational teachings that established you in the faith.

THE POTTER'S WHEEL

Jeremiah 18:3-4 KJV
Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. [4] And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

Most potters feel they intimately exude the creative nature of God by their pottery work and this feeling gets amplified as they feel the earthy grains while transforming them into a masterpiece. The potter's wheel is where the potter's will for the clay gets implemented, by it rotating to 1) Get the clay perfectly shaped. 2) Trim excess body from the worked clay. 3) Apply incised and intricate decorations or rings of color to beautify the clay.

Very important from our scriptural reference is the fact that God is the Potter and before we can as clay to be used or made into a valuable vessel by Him, we must first accept that we have been irredeemably "marred" by sin and therefore cannot fix ourselves unless we are made new. Knowing and accepting this truth about our helpless state in sin and God's great act of love to pick us up from its decay is the first step to our being molded into a masterpiece (Read Eph 2:1-10).

The Word of God is the Potter's wheel which He used in creating everything (Heb 11:3) and it is His Will that we continuously go through cycles of brokenness alongside newer levels of obedience till we are perfectly shaped (Isa 66:2, Rom 12:2), trimmed, purged or cleansed to be more fruitful .

Submit today to the Wheel of God's Word and be guaranteed that His hand will always be upon you even now and until eternity for your good (Ps 16:9-11).

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Before Diego received Christ as his Lord and Savior, he was a very morally upright person. He was known everywhere to be a person of great integrity. He was more morally upright than many Christians he knew, so he didn’t think he needed their salvation to make him righteous. But in his heart he longed for God and knew he was not right with God. He desired to be close to God, but he knew he was not.

When he received Christ as [his] Lord and Savior, it became clear to him that he was made righteous because of his faith in the Lord Jesus. Without this faith, no matter how morally upright he was, he could not please God.

It is good to be morally upright, and faith in Christ produces a life that is morally upright. Daniel was highly esteemed in heaven (Dan 10:11); he lived a life guided by the fear of the Lord. Cornelius attracted the attention of heaven because of this same reason (Acts 10:1-4). But morality is not what saves a person. Faith in Christ is what saves a person. But we know that true faith in Christ produces a life that is morally upright.

Because we are not of this world, Satan the prince of this world would fight us and try to overthrow us. But he can only succeed if we let our faith falter by constantly doing things that violate our consciences, or suffocate our faith by being unequally yoked together with unbelievers (see 1 Tim 1:19, 2 Cor 6:14).

Go into today remembering that every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith (1 John 5:4-NLT).

Hebrews 10:19-20 (NIV)
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body...

While growing up, my siblings and I had beds in our room, but our last born (who was known as the baby of the house) slept in our parents room on their bed many times . She was with us many times we talked about the things we desired but were scared to ask our parents for. However, in shock amazement, we would discover that our father has heard and has gone on to get us those things we desired, but would afterwards scold us for not coming directly to him with our requests.

Looking back now, I have come to understand that though we were all children, it was only our little sister that really knew how to approach, ask and receive from our parents because being in their presence more often made her bold, which in turn gave her access to whatever she wanted.

Many feel that God is partial and that He has blessed some more than others. This couldn't be more far from the truth. In reality, we all have been granted access to the Most High and so what we are now able to obtain largely depends on our attitude. You see, of those who access and receive eternal benefits from the Most Holy Place (Ps 16:11), the Bible didn't say that they will "occasionally visit" this secret place but it says "Whoever dwells in the secret place of the Most High" (Ps 91:1), meaning that they permanently reside there.

Go into today knowing that in Christ, you have access to all that pertains your well being as you continue to seek and dwell in His Word (2 Pet 1:3).

MINISTERS OF LIFE

2 Corinthians 3:6 KJV
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

At exactly when a hardened criminal was to be executed by lethal injection for murder, a nurse was helping to deliver a mother of her baby. While the criminal's last moments were that of shame, fear, and regret, that of the new mum and her baby were of joy, freedom, and relief. These two scenarios are paradoxical. The former adheres to the strict penalty of the law while the latter displays a gentle care to help preserve life.

God's Word ministers life to those who believe but carries a sentence on those who rebel or try to approach Him by following rules. When God's Word, then written in stone tablets, was first given, about three thousand persons died in judgment that day (Exo 32:19-28). But on the day of Pentecost with God's Word now written in the hearts of men, about three thousand persons were saved instead (Acts 2:36-41). The reason for the latter outcome was the presence and power of the Holy Spirit to make the apostles ministers of life.

Since based on our new birth in Christ through the Holy Spirit, we are now ministers of life, we would be ruining or issuing death letters instead of life to others if they only hear but see no tangible evidence in our lives or demonstrable proofs of the life we claim to have in Christ (Mtt 5:16, 1Cor 2:1-4; 1Cor 4:18-20)

Go into today as a minister of life to others by first receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit and yielding yourself totally to His leading (Lk 24:49).

Matthew 12:37 (KJV)
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

James and John grew up as friends. James was sly while John was shy and never really spoke much. Each time they got into trouble, it was John who always got punished as James would quickly put the blame on him. Finally, a day came when James got into some serious trouble with the law and as usual, he tried to blame it on John when the police arrived, but this time, something inside of John made him speak out boldly in objection so as to counter and denounce the false accusation made against him by James. Soon, John was freed based on the truthfulness of his statement and that of another fellow who had witnessed the incident and he has since learned a valuable lesson that spoken words are sacrosanct.

We have an enemy whose accusations on our lives have real and disastrous consequences and so it is pertinent that we respond to him if we must survive or overcome (Prov 18:21, Isa 54:17, Mk 11:23).

When we declare God's words using "It is written" in our response to Satan's accusations in form of diseases, lack, disappointments, etc., Jesus who Himself is the presiding Judge, our Lawyer as well as our Evidence (slain Lamb), takes to the witness stand on our behalf in heaven's courtroom and He by our faithful resolve in confessions, speaks to give us an acquitting verdict (Rev 5: 6-9, Heb 7:25, Rom 8:33-34, Heb 12:22-24).

Know today that, "The state of a man's life is a sum total of the consequences of what he or someone else has been speaking". Speak, therefore and be acquitted, for the Judge, the Lawyer, the Witness and the Evidence are all in your favor.

Ephesians 6:16 (KJV)
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

I once had an interaction with a young man, and I noticed that he knew the things of the Lord and seemed to have some spiritual understanding. I wondered why he was living like an unbeliever. I asked him and he replied and said to me ‘I trusted God once but He failed me’. It was clear he was now living a life that was rebellious to God’s authority. I started praying for him since then. He was a casualty of spiritual warfare.

Spiritual warfare is really about the faith of the believer. It is not about any other mundane thing that may look like the focus of the attack. The devil is not threatened by the amount of money or anything else you can have, but he is threatened by your faith. It is most precious (1 Pet 1:7).

When Satan attacked Job’s family, wealth, health, etc. The aim was to get Job to stop trusting in God, and as a result, get him to rebel against God’s authority; to curse God and die (Job 2:9). But Job kept the faith. He said ‘though He slays me, yet I will trust in Him’ (Job 13:15). And at the end, Job overcame.

Why does the devil seek to attack believers with setbacks? It is because he wants to get them to the point where they no longer trust in God, and as a result, they rebel against God’s authority. This rebellion manifests in compromises, sins, etc.

The way to always overcome is to keep your shield of faith up. That means no matter what, you insist on believing in God and confessing His word concerning your life and situation.

As long as the shield of faith is up, you will always be the overcomer (Eph 6:16).

Go into today remembering that every spiritual battle is about your faith first. Keep your faith intact and you will always overcome.

1 Timothy 1:18-19 (NET)
18 I put this charge before you, Timothy my child, in keeping with the prophecies once spoken about you, in order that with such encouragement you may fight the good fight. 19 To do this you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck in regard to the faith.

During the season Ameh was going through a trial of faith, there was a particular period that his faith was really low. During this period he observed that he even started doubting the existence of God, despite all the remarkable acts of God he had experienced in the past. He couldn't understand this, but all he could do was to continue to pray and dwell on God's word. Each time he prayed in the spirit, he observed that his faith was boosted a little.

He started investigating what was wrong: ‘why this strange drought of faith? ‘

He later found out that it was because, at that time, he allowed a guilty conscience linger. There was something he did that made him feel guilty, and he felt this guilt for a long time without addressing it appropriately.

One of the greatest forces against our faith is a guilty conscience. With a guilty conscience, our spirits cannot fellowship with God, and this fellowship is the source of our strength. Those who allow their consciences to be violated for long risk having a shipwreck of faith (see 1 Tim 1:19).

One of the major signs that your faith is sinking is that you will begin to doubt the willingness and ability of God to help you. This ultimately leads to doubting the existence of God.

Go into today knowing that you are to avoid anything that leads to the constant violating of your conscience.

Prayer: ask the Lord to help you always maintain a clear conscience before God and before men (see Acts 24:16)

1 Timothy 6:12 (NASB)
Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Ameh realized that he was in a season in his life where his faith was under terrible attack. There were certain things that went wrong in his life, and these things started going wrong the moment he decided to seek the Lord on a new higher level. Things he normally would pray about before and receive answers, during this season of his life he prayed and didn’t get any answers. Yet this was the season he was praying and seeking the Lord more than ever before. His faith was under attack and the devil was manipulating him to make foolish decisions that would ultimately bring him to the point of having a shipwreck of his faith. He knew it was warfare, and that if he kept being steadfast, he was going to be the overcomer and reap his harvest of multiplied grace.

The Devil is greatly threatened when believers begin to seek the Lord because a believer that walks in multiplied grace is a serious threat to his kingdom.

Most of the spiritual warfare we face as believers are assaults against our faith. They are aimed at getting us to the point where we no longer believe in God the way we used to. But the devil's ultimate weapon against the believer is sin. This is because when a believer walks with a defiled conscience for long, his faith is systematically drained, and this can ultimately lead to the shipwreck of faith (1 Tim 1:19).

Go into today remembering that you are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus. Insist on believing in God no matter what has happened in your life. In due season you will reap your great harvest if you faint not (Gal 6:9).

Hebrews 11:6 (NET)
Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Ebuka’s parents were too busy quarreling and fighting that they never really cared much for him. When they divorced, each one wanted custody of him just as an extra way to spite the other. His mother won the legal battle and got custody, but she soon had to dump him in boarding school because the man whom she wanted to remarry did not want him. She literally abandoned him there and no one paid his fees. His father was too busy womanizing and clubbing to care. Ebuka grew up feeling unwanted. But he did very well in school and got scholarships that helped him finish. He later became a very successful doctor.

Many years had passed and his parents were now old and poor. None of them had any other children and they now needed care in different ways. Ebuka was now a believer in Christ and because of this, he forgave his parents. The reason he forgave, honored and took care of them was because he feared the Lord and obeyed His word (Eph 6:2). This is what it means to have faith in God.

I used to wonder how can one come to God without first believing that He exists. I now realize that many people can say that they believe in God, but it is their actions that will prove if they truly believe in God. Faith without works is dead.

Go into today remembering that no one comes to God except through [faith in] the Lord Jesus (see John 14:6). Anyone who truly comes to God will love and obey Him. The faith that counts before God is one that produces obedience to Him (Heb 11:8).

Colossians 4:2 (NET)
Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving.

I was praying in the Spirit one night when I saw that someone close to me was going to be afflicted with sickness. I prayed about it and rebuked the spirit of infirmity that sought to afflict this person. The next couple of days, I found out that this person was slightly sick but recovered and was back to sound health. I wondered how serious the sickness would have been if I wasn't praying that night and saw what I saw and rebuked the spirit I sensed.

We can see from today's Bible verse that one way we keep alert and watch is by praying.

When Jesus told us to watch, notice that it also involved praying. He said watch and pray (see Matt 26:41, Luke 26:36). You will also see in Ephesians 6:18 that watching and praying go together. You cannot be an effective watchman if you are not a man of prayer.

Some of you reading this Devotional today have been appointed by God to be watchmen over your family members. You have the authority from God to prevent evil from getting to them. Many of them may not know the Lord the way you know the Lord, but because of you, evil will not come near them, and many of them will eventually come to know the Lord. But you will not be able to watch and be alert if you are not a man of prayer.

Go into today thanking the Lord for the privilege to be responsible in His kingdom. Ask for the grace to be faithful in watching and praying.

FULFILLING GOD'S PLAN

Proverbs 23:17 - 18 (KJV)
Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

Many building plans and great architectural designs are in existence today for mansions, skyscrapers, flats, etc.. One thing of note to consider among other considerations such as land ownership, funding, government laws, land consolidation, etc, which also have their own determining effect is that regardless of how good these plans may look on paper, they remain plans and may never translate into concrete structures unless their actual construction is done on-site by builders.

God's plans for us are good, and in this hope, we joyfully anticipate its fulfillment (Jeremiah 29:11). One is that we become His spiritual house (1Corinthians 3:9-17, 1Peter 2:5, Ephesians 2:19-22). Another, is that we do not end up as unfulfilled destinies or wasted potentials (Philippians 1:6). Still, another is that we live godly lives in hopes of one day translating into glorious beings when Christ appears (John 14:2-3, 1 John 3:2)

However, like any building plan on paper, God’s plans for us will remain just plans and will not automatically come to pass in our lives unless we cooperate with it and work it by faith till it becomes tangible. Our scriptural text tells us that it is our daily and continued fear of God, that is, our everyday worship through faith and obedience to His Word, that ensures that our lives accomplish His will and do not end up as uncompleted projects.

Therefore in fulfilling God's perfect plan, we must first of all surrender our lives totally to Him (Romans 12:1-2), trust in Him as our firm foundation and then progressively build our lives by faith, using His precious promises (1Corinthians 3:11-13, 2Peter 1:3-4, Hebrews 11:1-3).

Go into today in the continued fear of the Lord and be sure that you'll arrive at your expected end.

Job 31:7-8 (ERV)
If I ever stepped off the right path, if my eyes led my heart to do evil, or if my hands are dirty with sin, then let others eat what I planted. Let my crops be pulled up by the roots.

Imagine the devastating effects of wildfires on farmers and their farmlands. It makes for a total waste of time, effort, resources and ultimately loss of profits. Therefore, in order to prevent such disastrous losses and ensure harvest, farmers make great efforts to invest in mitigation strategies, some of which include having fences, caution signs, etc.

The eyes are one of the gates by which spiritual wildfires are lit or by which devourers of harvest gain access to one's life. For instance, the willful and careless viewing of sexually explicit materials, leads to ignition of lustful flames in one's heart, which if not put off, ultimately leads to sexual sins, whose nature are such that they burn up and uproot one's harvest, without a trace of his prior efforts (Job 31:9-12, James 1:14-15).

Believers are laborers or farmers in God's vineyard and are supposed to reap harvest (2Timothy 2:6). If after our labor, we then allow ourselves to fall prey to sexual sins by what we look at, we condemn ourselves to judgment and shame (Proverbs 6:32-33). Therefore, we must ensure we are not bereft of caution regarding the ever increasing temptation of sexual sin, but that we must at all times, turn our eyes away from lust evoking objects (Job 31:1, Mark 9:47) and focus it firmly on God's word (Hebrews 12:2).

Make a covenant today with your eyes not to give objects of sin a second glance. As you do so, your harvest which you have labored and waited for will surely be yours.

Colossians 4:2(NET)
2 Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving.

A mother observed that her baby became very sickly and would start crying uncontrollably around a particular time of the night. She had done everything she could do medically, but the situation did not improve. As she began to pray more fervently and became devoted to prayer, one of the nights, around the time her baby would begin to cry, she fell into a trance and saw a figure dressed in white entering the room and going towards her baby. As the figure drew closer, she sensed the darkness of its presence even though it was dressed in white. She knew that it was an evil spirit. She immediately woke up from the trance, and with the authority of Christ she cast out that evil spirit and instructed it never to come back again. That was the last day her baby was afflicted.

Many times, believers have been unnecessarily afflicted and troubled because they were not spiritually alert. A spiritually alert person will sense when something going on is a result of demonic activity and will be able to cast out the demons. A spiritually alert believer will be more discerning in spirit than the believer who is not spiritually alert.

As a believer, you should pray all the time and you should also have times when you pray. This is how to be devoted to prayer, and this is how your spiritual senses become alert. Believers who never take out time to pray regularly are generally spiritually weaker and less alert.

Go into today remembering that the way to be spiritually alert is by being devoted to prayer and thanksgiving.

THE LORD'S BUSINESS

Luke 2:49 (KJV)
And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

All businesses have workers, each having individual roles different from their corporate and central role of aligning with the vision, identity and goals of the business. Therefore, the ability of a business to grow and remain profitable will largely depend on the continued belief in it by its workers, as well as their efficacy in utilizing time, efforts, skills and experience towards growth.

When some in the Bible made inquiries on how they could do God's work, Jesus simply told them that doing God's work is them believing on Him, the Messiah (See John 6:28-29). So now, our individual and collective roles in God's business becomes us 'believing in Christ and in turn showing Him to others for them to also believe in Him' (John 20:31, Acts 16:30-31). This "Believing" is our positive response to God's saving grace through Christ Jesus, and our outward confession and continued walk of faith in Him.

Because on our own, we cannot run God's business effectively like Jesus did while He was on earth, He gave us a Helper (The Holy Spirit), Who part of His work is to convict sin and help us turn into believers, those who still live in unbelief; live in sin (John 16:7-9, Acts 1:8).

God also desires that His business be rich in profit and so He won't tolerate lazy, idle or ghost workers who only want benefits without any commitment to His business (Revelation 3:15-16). This means that as handlers of God's business, we must always be at our duty posts, diligently working and improving our abilities in helping others believe (Romans 12:11, 2Peter 1:5-10).

Today, regardless of our diverse vocations, let the business of making others see and believe in Jesus always be central to what we are found doing.

Colossians 4:5-6 (NLT)
5 Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

As a businessman, Mayowa was also a very effective prophet and evangelist to people he had personal dealings with. He knew how to make the most of opportunities, and he was wise in the way he did this. He understood that he was on a mission in the marketplace, so he was very careful with the things he said. He ensured that his words were always seasoned with salt; he spoke no idle words, but spoke well calculated words that wisely conveyed the wisdom (salt) of God’s kingdom. He also had a very attractive and gracious personality. People who dealt with him were interested in what he had to say because of this.

Having the pilgrim’s mindset was the reason Mayowa was not subdued by the corruption and love of mammon he met in the marketplace.

As believers in Christ Jesus, one mentality we must always have is that we are pilgrims in this world, and no matter where God has placed us, we are representatives of Christ. This is our first and most important assignment. It even trumps making money for the businessman. This is the only way to be effective in fulfilling our kingdom mandate and assignments. Many have failed because they forgot their first identity and assignment in the marketplace.

As you go into today, remember that you have been entrusted with the grace to represent Christ wherever He has placed you.

Prayer: Lord, please help me represent you well in my place of work. Amen.

Job 7:17 - 18 (AMP)
“What is man that You [should] magnify him [and think him important]? And that You are concerned about him? “And that You examine him every morning And try and test him every moment?

Lying on the operating table was a man whose life hung in the balance with a deadly tumor. Then came along the surgeon, who with his surgical and examination tools, removed the tumor under the theatre lights. The operation lasted for two hours and was a success. After waking up from surgery, the now relieved man was immensely grateful and sincerely thanked the surgeon for helping him have a second chance.

God visits us while we are yet sleeping and like the surgeon, He most times would find tumors and ugliness in our lives that many have died and not woken up from. He didn't allow us to perish like we deserve but instead showed us Love, Mercy, and Faithfulness (Psalm 103:8-12, Lamentations 3:22-23). These are some of His tools with which He visits and checks up on us every morning through the light of His Word.

One of the reasons people are ungrateful in life and wake up each day without a word of gratitude to God is because they do not know what He has done for them. While He is being mindful of them, they deliberately ignore Him (Psalm 115:12). It is pride and lack of respect if we wake up in the morning without acknowledging our earthly parents, how much more our heavenly Father?

Today, always remember each time you wake up, what Jesus has done for you, in giving you another chance to a new life and show Him your gratitude (Psalm 103:1-5).

Romans 12:6 (NET)
And we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith.

Mayowa believed that God had called him to be a prophet because he had prophetic gifts. As he became closer to the Lord, it became clearer to him that he was not called to the pulpit, but to use his anointing in the marketplace and represent Christ there.

He was a businessman, and he would use his prophetic grace to understand business trends and patterns. He would attend business meetings with people deeply involved in the occult, but they would not be able to subdue him. In a matter of six years, he dominated his industry. And this was because of the grace of God upon his life. The Lord made him very great because the Lord wanted him to become a policymaker in his country through his business influence. Politicians would seek his consent before making certain decisions in the land because of his influence.

One big mistake believers make is thinking that the anointing of God upon their lives is strictly meant for Church ministry. Daniel got to the point he got to in government because of the anointing of God upon his life. Jacob became a successful businessman because of the anointing of God upon his life (Gen 31:10-11). David was a successful king who never lost a war because of the anointing of God upon his life. Joseph ascended to the highest office in the land because of the anointing.

Go into today remembering that as believers, we are agents for the advancement of God’s kingdom wherever He has placed us. It is time for us to start taking advantage of the anointing of God in every area and conquering territories for God.
Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you always represent Him well.

Romans 15:5 (NIV)
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had

Marathon races are a test of endurance. Due to their long distance requirement, they are run on roads. Unlike races in the stadium, their participants or marathoners are in close proximity to the spectators and can interact with them. Apart from being cheered on by the spectators, they also receive on numerous occasions among other things, water-soaked sponges and cups of liquid refreshments for their encouragement, till they reach the finish line.

From our Bible text, God Himself heads the Ministry of Encouragement as the Chief Encourager. He doesn't just stand at the finish line to receive us, but runs alongside us throughout our Christian race, urging and supplying us with all the grace needed for us to finish strong. He encourages us mainly through the pure, cleansing and refreshing water of His Word (Romans 15:4, Ephesians 5:26).

God desires our active involvement in this special ministry just like Barnabas in the Bible who lived out his own name, meaning 'Son of Encouragement' (Acts 4:36). He sold his landed property to support the church (Acts 4:37), mediated the acceptance of Paul (a former persecutor of believers), and spurred the growth of the Gentile church (Acts 9:26-27, Acts 11:22-24).

We, in turn, must also encourage others who are becoming weak in life's race just as Christ has done for us (Romans 15:1-3).

Go into today, always ready to be an encouragement to those who are down and weak, through kind words and actions. Truly, it has its rewards (Galatians 6:9-10).

And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

One of the shepherd's most important items is his rod. Though ordinary, he uses it quite efficiently to lead and control his flock, protect himself and his flock from thieves or wild animals, leans on it for support when tired, etc. It is somewhat inseparable to the identity of a shepherd and so most times he depends on it for survival.

In life, there are things which represent the shepherd's rod to us. It could be race, family, wealth, nationality, education, creed, talents, cultural heritage, etc. Many, unfortunately, attach too much importance to these things that they miss their true purpose. Even if one is favored by all of these things, a life without Jesus is ultimately a life of unfulfilled potential.

Looking at the life of Moses in Exodus 4:2, the rod he held was initially an ordinary stick, but in verse 20, after casting it down in obedience to God, it became 'The rod of God'. Through it, Moses performed great miracles (see Exodus 14:16, 21-28).

As believers, we mustn't hold back from God certain aspects of our lives. Everything we have must be cast down on God's altar of sacrifice first, and then afterward, God through those things committed to Him can use us for His mighty works. Like Goliath discovered in 1Samuel 17:43-51, the kingdom of darkness is always defeated by the believer who carries in him Christ (the rod of God (Isaiah 11:1-10)) and who through Him has become God's war hammer (Jeremiah 51:20-23). He will not fear or be intimidated by one who carries an ordinary stick!

Go into today walking in victory over all of life's challenging and death valleys (Psalm 23:4) because you carry the rod of God.
