The Hope of the Believer 2

🔊Download the Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1929

1 Corinthians 15:19 (KJV)
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

When Debo started going to church, he did so because he was told that people who go to the church succeed in their businesses, and he wanted to succeed.

Each time a testimony of financial breakthrough was given, he wanted to key into it by doing what the people who gave the testimony did.

But as Debo continued to go to church and listen to the word of God, he believed in the Lord Jesus and his hope in Christ shifted from earthly prosperity alone to true eternal riches.

God indeed blesses His people. But if earthly blessing is all we hope in Christ for, we would live miserable lives as believers because we would still be under the influence of the prince of this world who can steal earthly treasures and break our hearts because our heart's affection lies where our treasure is (Matt 6:21). But if we shift our focus from earthly riches to true eternal riches, we would be invincible to the kingdom of darkness. You can use your faith to lay for yourself only earthly treasures that cannot resist the prince of this world. But your faith is powerful enough to lay for you eternal treasures that give you a voice in the spirit that the kingdom of darkness cannot resist.

Go into today remembering that as a believer, your hope and faith in Christ is much more powerful than merely securing your life here on earth. It has the ability to secure your entire eternity. Don't live a miserable life by squandering your faith only on earthly things that the devil can steal, let your faith be used in serving God’s kingdom that rewards with eternal treasure.

The Hope of the Believer

🔊Download the Audio☞ bit.ly/aud1928

1 Corinthians 15:19 (KJV)
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

When Charles became a believer in the Lord Jesus, he was already making a lot of money from being a fraudster. He was already driving a brand new Mercedes Benz and had started building his first house while still a teenager in his second year on campus.

But he accepted the Lord Jesus and knew he had to forsake that life of fraud. He left the life of fraud because of hope in Christ. He understood that there was nothing of this world that was too big to give up for inheriting the kingdom of God. He knew he could not continue in his life of sin and inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor 6:9-10). Because of sound teaching, he knew that all the wealth in this world put together was not sufficient to pay for the eternal glory of God’s eternal kingdom that he was called to inherit. But he also knew that this hope that made him forsake his ungodly wealth was not in this life of flesh and blood but in the life that is to come.

For Charles, if his hope in Christ was only in this life, he would have been most miserable because he forsook a life of affluence and embraced the kingdom life of selflessness and sacrifice.

Believers in Christ are those who set their affection on things above and not on things of this world (see Col 3:2). This doesn't mean believers would not be relevant in this world. As a matter of fact, the more we focus on God's kingdom and set our affection on things above, the more relevant and impactful we would be in this world because that is when our light would shine.

Go into today remembering that as a believer in Christ, most of our hope is towards the eternal glory that would shine brighter even when all the glories of this world has failed and expired.

Some Fruits of False Teachings

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1927

1 Timothy 6:3-4 (NET)
If someone spreads false teachings and does not agree with sound words (that is, those of our Lord Jesus Christ) and with the teaching that accords with godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in controversies and verbal disputes. This gives rise to envy, dissension, slanders, evil suspicions

Before Charles met some sound believers on campus and became a believer in the Lord Jesus, he did not like charismatic Christians at all. He was not interested in being a believer because of his elder sister. Before she started attending a certain charismatic church, she used to be “nice” and “normal”. But as soon as she started attending that church, she became very suspicious. She would pray in tongues with fear, sprinkle anointing oil on even cockroaches and say "no one knows how they (my enemies) can come".
She wouldn't travel anymore to the village because of fear, and she became very stingy because she said she didn't want anyone to use her gifts and money as an evil point of contact against her.

Even though she became a believer, these manifestations of fear and suspicion in her life were a product of false teachings. Some fruits to show that a believer has been feeding on false doctrines is that he becomes more fearful and suspicious.

Sound doctrine should build faith, courage, and strength in your heart. It shouldn't make you more fearful or suspicious. Even though we are to be sober and vigilant (by being prayerful), believers are never to be more fearful than unbelievers. Unbelievers should look up to us when they are afraid because we are the ones serving the living God.

Go into today remembering that God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind (see 2 Tim 1:7).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please deliver me from every spirit of fear. Please fill me with your Spirit of power, love, and self-control. Amen.

Identifying False Teachers

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1926

1 Timothy 6:3-4 (KJV)
If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmising

I have heard of certain teachers who teach doctrines that contradict the teachings of Christ. They say that 'the things Jesus taught were meant for Jews and not for Christians' or 'Jesus’ teachings were before the New Testament and are not valid for New Testament believers'. They forget that every testament (will) is given before and not after the death of the testator. The death of the testator simply ratifies and brings it into effect.

Such teachers are the ones Apostle Paul is referring to in today's Bible verses. They claim to know much but actually know nothing. How can someone who has an understanding of God's Word say that the things Jesus taught were not meant for those who believe in Him?

Yes, there were things the Lord could not teach His disciples because they could not receive them without the help of the Holy Spirit (until the Holy Spirit came and baptized the Gentiles in the very eyes of the first Apostles, they could not believe that Gentiles could receive God's salvation), but the things the Lord taught and commanded His Apostles were meant for believers, and He instructed them to teach these things to other [new] believers everywhere (see Matt 28:20).

Go into today remembering that one way to identify those who spread false teachings is that they claim that certain things Jesus taught are not meant for the believer. They also claim that certain other portions of the New Testament are not meant for the believer.

Prayer: Lord, please immunize me from the deception of those who spread false teachings. Amen.

Let Us Have Grace 2

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1925

Ephesians 2:8-10 (KJV)
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

George grew up in a Christian home. He didn't remember exactly when he accepted the Lord Jesus because he had known the Lord from when he was a child.

Because he had lived a morally upright and disciplined life all his life, he started taking the grace of God for granted and giving his upbringing all the credit. Because of this, he became a very religious person with no spiritual power. He was afraid of witches and demons and was even now being tormented by them in his dreams.

But after remembering and acknowledging the grace of God as the reason he was a believer and an upright person, it was as if a door was opened for him to know the Lord and grow in grace and spiritual power.

One of the signs that a person has laid hold on the grace of God is that he would not be able to boast about his good works, he would rather give all the glory to God because he acknowledges that they are a product of God's ordination long ago. Such a person would not be judgmental and would be quick to forgive because he realizes that if it were not for grace, he would have been as bad as anybody. That's why those who cannot forgive cannot continue to grow in grace (see Matt 6:15).

Go into today remembering that it is expedient that we walk in grace and not in our own works because the only way we can serve God acceptably is through the empowerment of grace (Heb 12:28). Those who acknowledge the grace of God as their source of strength would continue to advance in it.

Prayer: Father, thank you for your grace that saves me and empowers me to do your good works. Please help me grow in this grace and in the knowledge of you (2 Pet 3:18). Amen.

Let Us Have Grace

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1924

Hebrews 12:28 (KJV)
Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear

After Terso believed in the Lord Jesus, he met some brethren on campus who has much grace to pray and fast. Because he was close to them, he also received this grace to pray and wait on the Lord. Because of this, there was great power in their midst, such that through them great miracles were performed.

But as Terso left the country to another country for studies, he found that the grace he enjoyed while on campus seemed to be waning. He could no longer pray the way he could and his spiritual adventure appeared to now be an uphill battle.

He had routines and disciplines he trusted to keep him in grace, but that was where his problem was. He trusted in systems rather than in Christ for grace.

You are saved by grace through faith, not of yourself and not of works lest you should boast, but it is the gift of God (see Ephesians 2:8-9).

Whenever you see a man under grace working hard, it is because grace is empowering him, and he would not be able to take credit for it but would attribute it to the grace of God (see 1 Cor 15:10).

When you see a man begin to take credit for the work of grace, he is beginning to fall from grace and walk in disgrace. This was exactly what happened with the people of Israel. By the time the gospel was revealed, they had forgotten that their election as God's people was simply because of God's grace and not the works that followed. They could not receive grace because they were already full of trust in their own works and routines.

Go into today remembering that grace produces good works but trusting in good works do not produce grace, only trusting in Christ alone imparts grace(see John 1:16). Grace is received and multiplied by trusting in Christ and abiding (knowing and growing in) in Him (see John 15:4, 2 Pet 1:2,).

The Resurrection Doctrine

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1923

1 Corinthians 15:12-13 (KJV)
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen

It surprises me that there are some people who say that they believe that there will be a resurrection of the dead, but they don't believe that Christ was raised from the dead nor was He the Son of God. I find it hard to believe that such people truly believe in the resurrection.

The reason believers in Christ Jesus believe in the resurrection is because we also believe that our Lord and Savior resurrected bodily, and because he resurrected, we as members of His body are assured that we too will resurrect. The same scriptures that foretold His death, burial and resurrection also says we too would resurrect (see Isaiah 53:3-6, Psalm 16:10, Psalm 22:7-8, 18, 16, 31, Job 19:25-26, etc). Since Christ truly died and resurrected (according to what the scriptures foretold), we too would resurrect like Christ (according to what the scriptures foretell).

For a person who does not believe that the Lord resurrected, there is no basis for him believing that he would resurrect.

Go into today remembering that without the teaching and understanding about the resurrection, your gospel is not complete (see 1 Corinthians 15:1-22). It is because of an understanding of this truth that believers can live holy contented lives in this present world. It is because of the understanding of the glory that the resurrection would reveal in us that believers do not serve mammon like the rest of the world.

The devil has been trying since the beginning of the church to obscure this truth from the believers because he knows the power this truth activates.

Prayer: Pray for yourself and for the Christians in your nation, that the truth of the full gospel will bring divine transformation.

Faith or Risk 2

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1922

1 John 5:14 (KJV)
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.

Jide grew up very poor so one of his greatest desires in life was to become very rich and powerful. He wanted to own the biggest house in his village and drive the most expensive cars.

When he realized that through faith, people could receive things from the Lord, he decided to begin to apply faith towards his dream of riches. He took many risks. There were times he wouldn't eat properly because he had given all his money in hopes that he would receive the kind of riches he wanted from the Lord.

Jide didn't receive the riches he expected from the Lord. He later found out that it wasn’t that God didn’t want to make him rich, but his motive for asking was wrong, it was pride of life. God does not reward bad motives.

For your faith not to be you just taking risks, your faith has to be based on the word and will of God. If there is anything to learn about God's predestination, it is that God doesn't do anything He never first planned to do.

The power of God would not work to furnish your pride or massage your ego, it would work to fulfill God's word and do His will. The onus is on us to ensure we are found within His will.

When dealing with God, your motive and the state of your heart is very important. God would rather give you something simply because you ask and desire it than give it to you to furnish your pride and lust (see James 4:3).

One of the most effective ways of asking and receiving from the Lord is to factor your request within the context of what you are sure is God's will for you.

Go into today remembering that God's will is superior to your faith, and God would not do anything against His will. Ensure that your faith always aligns with God’s will so that it would be fruitful.

Faith or Risk?

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1921

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

You may have heard people say that living by faith is risky. But is living by Faith really risky?

Merriam Webster dictionary defines risk as the possibility that something bad or unpleasant (such as an injury or a loss) will happen. Hebrews 11:1, however, defines faith as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

The end of every risk is uncertain and unpredictable, but faith is certain and predictable. A risk is always associated with doubt, hence fear. Faith is without doubt and fear. Risk feeds on your ego while faith depends on God.

God has not called us to a bleak and unpredictable end, the end is certain and predictable if we follow Him (see Jer 29:11). Doubt which is often associated with risk hinders us from receiving from God (see James 1:6-8) but faith pleases God (Heb 11:6).

Faith in God is based on the word and will of God, but taking a risk is based on uncertainty and wishful thinking. When God says a word and you believe it and act according to what you believe, you are walking in faith. But when you begin to act presumptuously based on mere desires you have (with an end to furnish your ego), you are taking a risk.

Go into today choosing faith in God over taking risks.

Removing the Spec

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1920

Matthew 7:5-6 (NET)
You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Do not give what is holy to dogs or throw your pearls before pigs; otherwise they will trample them under their feet and turn around and tear you to pieces.

After struggling with lust in his heart for several weeks, Martins knew that this was a spec in his eye that was hindering his spiritual vision and walk with the Lord. He prayed about this, but after seeing that he could not handle the situation alone, he called another Christian brother to whom he was accountable and discussed the matter. This was how the hold of the lust in his heart broke.

There is something about opening up such matters to your Christian brother or sister, one of the first ways to heal a decaying wound is by opening it up.

The Bible says we should confess our faults one to another, that we may be healed (see James 5:16).

Have you ever tried to remove a spec from someone's eye? This has to be with his consent or even request. It requires some painstaking and skilled blowing and blowing of air into the eyes until the spec is blown away.

If you notice a spec in your own eye, sometimes, with patience, you alone with a mirror (signifying God's word) would be able to carefully remove the spec, but sometimes, you may need to invite a friend to help you blow it out.

If you have ever successfully removed a spec from your own eyes, it would be easier for you to help someone else not as experienced (say a child) remove the spec from his eye.

In removing the spec from someone’s eye, it would require the cooperation of that person or that task would be futile. Such cooperation can only come from a Christian brother who cares about the Lord and desires to walk more accurately and perfectly.

It is a very Holy and precious thing to remove specs from the eyes of brethren, but this ministry can never be fulfilled by hypocrites.

Go into today remembering to examine yourself regularly to see if there is any spec growing in your eye that needs to be removed. Pray with Psalm 139:23-24.

Cast Not Your Pearls before Swine 2

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1919

Matthew 7:5-6 (KJV)
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Mr. and Mrs. Akowe were Marriage ministers who had a very great track record of success. They had seen the Lord use them to restore many wounded and broken marriages in the church.

But they recently discovered that they were no longer fruitful in their ministry.

As they waited on the Lord to know why they were no longer succeeding in healing marriages through their ministry, they discovered that it was because they were now hypocrites who refused to remove the beam in their own eyes. There was now deep-rooted recentness they had towards each other, but they both covered it up and continued with the ministry. This was the reason they were no longer fruitful.

In today's verses, the Lord says we should first cast out the beam from our own eyes before we can see clearly to cast out the mote in our brother's eyes. He then goes on to say that we should not give that which is holy to dogs and our pearls to swine. There are a number of lessons here:

One is that it is impossible for a hypocritical believer to successfully remove the impurities and specs in the life of another believer. It’s a spiritual principle. See 2 Corinthians 10:6.

Before you begin to attempt to help remove the mote in your Christian Brother or sister’s eye, you must be sure that the one in your eye has been removed or you would never succeed in helping.

Another lesson is that the person whose eye you are to remove the spec from should be your [Christian] brother, not an outsider- for outside are the dogs (Rev 22:15).

In removing the mote from your brother’s eyes, you are giving that which is Holy and precious. This kind of painstaking task is only reserved for your [Christian] brother and not for the metaphorical swine and pigs: those who do not care about God.

Prayer: Lord, show me the log in my eyes and help me be fruitful in ministry.

Cast Not Your Pearls before Swine

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1918

Matthew 7:6 (KJV)
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

After Henry believed in the Lord and was delivered from many dangerous habits like smoking and gambling, he now saw more clearly how those habits were destroying his life before he believed. Because of this, he tried persuading his old friends from such habits, trying to show them how bad these habits are for their health and even their finances, but they laughed at him and hated him even more. All he tried to do was to help them, but it was working the other way round.

We can see from scripture (see 2 Pet 2:22) that the metaphor of dogs and swine are used for rebellious 'believers' (who would not be corrected because they have turned from the way and are not deceived or ignorant but know what they are doing) or unbelievers. We are not to expend our teaching, counseling, prayers and time on such believers who have denied the faith (see 1 John 5:16).

There is no need wasting your time to convince an unbeliever about the dangers of his habits (he most likely already knows), what he needs is the gospel. It is when you see a spec in the eye of your [Christian] brother or sister that you can expend your resources and time in removing it through prayer, teaching, and loving counsel. But you can only be effective in this when you have already removed the log in your own eyes (see Matt 7:5).

Go into today remembering that you have limited time in this side of eternity. Make the most of it for God’s kingdom profit (see Eph 5:15-16).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you to be more fruitful in His kingdom this new week.

The Gospel of God

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1917

1 Corinthians 15:1-2 (NET)
Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel that I preached to you, that you received and on which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message I preached to you – unless you believed in vain.

I had a conversation with a colleague who kept telling me how he admired my lifestyle and devotion to God. He wasn't a believer in the Lord Jesus but said he was a believer in God. We discussed how Jesus Christ is what makes the difference. You cannot preach the gospel without talking about Christ. The gospel is the message about Christ.

If Christ is not in the Center of the message, it is not the gospel of God.

It became necessary for Apostle Paul to make clear to the Corinthians the gospel they received so that they would know what it was and what it was not.

He went on to talk about Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.

He further went on to lay emphasis on the resurrection of the dead (read 1 Cor 15). The resurrection of the dead is an important aspect of our gospel message. Take it out of the gospel message and you've taken away hope from it (see 1 Cor 1519). Take away hope and you’ll deaden faith.

Today, there is a gospel message that only seeks to focus on hope and prosperity in this life, but fails to emphasize the coming of the Lord and the resurrection of the dead. It fails to emphasize to believers that the best they can have in this life of the flesh is less than the least they would have in the life of the resurrected body.

The problem with this kind of gospel is that even though it may be celebrated among none critical thinkers, it would be redundant among critical thinkers and those who are not driven by the need to alienate poverty. That’s why it appears that the gospel [popularly preached today] is losing traction in the most affluent nations of the world today.

Go into today remembering that the true gospel of God focuses on Christ and brings people eternal hope (whether they are rich or poor, young or old) not just for this life but for the life to come.

Why Self-control?

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1916

Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

The same Judith who attempted taking her own life because of depression and rejection from friends later became a successful teacher, motivator and a co-owner of a Foundation for the depressed, where she taught by the power of the Holy Spirit.

One very important evidence that shows that a child of God is now mature and ready to be entrusted with the true riches of the Kingdom is self-control. When you can’t control yourself, you cannot lead others. In Luke 16:10, Jesus says you must be faithful in little for you to be entrusted with more. Your ability to control yourself is the first little test that you must pass before God can entrust the lives of others to you.

“When you are converted, strengthen your brethren” was Jesus' counsel to Peter in Luke 22:32 and in Galatians 4:1-2 we see that as long as the heir remains a child although the rightful owner of all, there is no difference between him and the servants. He is put under governors who will help him govern his life until he reaches maturity and can govern his own life by himself. You see, ownership and leadership is given to those who have learned to govern themselves.

You may never be able to possess your possession unless you are self-controlled.

That unpleasant experience, that irritating neighbor, that nagging spouse, and those other things that get you so easily offended may be your own test. You can be free from being controlled by things and happenings around if you will let the Holy Spirit help you control yourself.

Go into today knowing that you will not lead others well unless you’ve learned to lead yourself well.

Lord, help me walk in self-control and possess my possessions fully.

The Holy Spirit

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1915

John 14:17 (NET)
The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides with you and will be in you.

Until after Jessica accepted the Lord Jesus,  she didn't understand what people talked about when they talked about the Holy Spirit. But when she accepted the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit became real to her. Before she accepted the Lord Jesus, she was a drug addict, and had gone to rehab three times but always relapsed.

But when she knew the Holy Spirit, she found the power to overcome her drug addiction.
The devil knows that with the Holy Spirit in our lives he cannot overcome us so he will do everything he can to deceive believers from knowing the person and ministry of the Holy Ghost.

Go into today remembering that the power to live a victorious life is supplied by the Holy Ghost you have received if you are a believer.  For it is not by power nor by might,  but by the spirit of God that we fulfill our eternal destinies on this side of eternity (see Zech 4:6).

Prayer: Lord please fill me with the Holy Spirit and help me walk in His power. Amen.

Self Control

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1914

Galatians 5:22-24 (KJV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Judith got angry at the slightest provocation and was known for this by all her friends because once she gets angry they’ll all have to leave her alone.

Even though Judith was a believer, she had no control of herself. Her friends left her and anyone who wanted to marry her ran away. She suffered dejection and even considered suicide so many times until she was taught self-control.

I’ll define self-control or temperance as your ability to control yourself. Many believers today have lost control or never even gained control of themselves. They are controlled from without by external influences. Insult them and they’ll get angry, give them money and they’ll be happy, but they’ll be sad when they lose money. They really are not the ones controlling themselves but are controlled by external influences.

In Genesis 1:28-30 God gave us dominion, in 1 Corinthians 3:21-23 He gave us all things, and in Luke 9:1 God gave us power and authority. Use your dominion and authority to bring all that is within you under the control of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Go into today depending on the Holy Spirit to be self-controlled.

False Prophets- The Way of Balaam

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1913

2 Peter 2:15 (NET)
By forsaking the right path they have gone astray, because they followed the way of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness

Now there is another category of prophets who started as true servants of the Lord, but along the way, because of mammon, they have ended as enemies of the cross (see Phil 3:18). They can also be classified as false prophets.

The first known prophet who entered this kind of error is Balaam. He was a prophet of Almighty God but an enemy of God’s people brought him money to help place a curse on God's people. Balaam initially refrained because he understood that it was wrong for him to do such a thing. But because the people who came brought money, Balaam kept asking the Lord to let him go and place a curse on His people, people who like Jethro, Balaam was supposed to be on their side.

After trying several times to no avail in cursing God's people, he gave their enemy a strategy that ultimately worked in getting God's people to walk in iniquity so that they would be destroyed.

Even though he was supposed to be a prophet of God, Balaam worked against God's kingdom agenda because of money.

There are many prophets today who are walking in the same error as Balaam. They have used their spiritual skill and anointing to help the kingdom of darkness (some without knowing it) rather than edify God's people because they want more money. Many of them have twisted the word of God knowingly just because they want to extract more money from the people.

Instead of feeding God's children with the sincere milk of God’s word that would help them grow into the stature of Christ, they have fed them with the milk adulterated with worldliness that would keep them as babes who would continue to depend on them and fill their pockets with money.

Go into today remembering that you cannot serve God and serve mammon (see Matt 6:24). Any attempt to do the two as a servant of Jesus would lead you into the way of Balaam.

Prayer: Lord, please deliver me from walking this evil path and help me depend on you alone. Amen.

False Prophets

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1912

Matthew 24:11-12 (KJV)
And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

After suffering greatly in the hand of a particular false prophet, Bimbo was now generally cold towards ministers of the gospel and believers. She fell prey to that false prophet because he was claiming to be a genuine man of God who preaches holiness and righteousness, but ultimately was a charlatan who used witchcraft to turn people like her into his personal ATM.

Because of the things she had experienced, her love for the body of Christ had grown cold. She didn't trust anybody again and was now closed hearted and tight-fisted towards the work of God.

I believe it is no coincidence that after the Lord Jesus talks about many false prophets rising that He informs us that iniquity shall abound.

Every church assembly is meant to be the light of its territory(see Rev 1:20, Matt 5:14), but through the invasion of false prophets claiming to be men of God, what is meant to bring territorial light becomes darkness, and if the light [of a territory] becomes darkness, how great is that darkness! (Matt 6:23).

One of the most effective ways to identify false prophets is by their fruits in relation to money. They serve mammon and not God. Money is more important to them than the souls of men.

What then is the solution?
Believers must beware of false prophets (Matt 7:15). Do not follow people because of signs and wonders, but follow them because the words they speak impart life to your righteous spirit (see John 6:63, 68). False prophets can perform lying wonders and magic, but cannot impart the life of the Holy Spirit into their words.

Go into today remembering that it is not a light thing before the Lord for the love of a believer to wax cold. The Lord’s first letter to the Churches makes this clear (see Rev 2:4-5).

Prayer focus:
Revelation 2:5 (KJV) Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Edification of the Church

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1911

1 Corinthians 14:26 (NET)
What should you do then, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each one has a song, has a lesson, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all these things be done for the strengthening of the church.

One of the biggest hindrances to the edification of the church by people with [spiritual] gifts has been the quest for self-glorification rather than the edification of the church. You cannot do both.

Many church assemblies today have structures that make it impossible for those who are not 'ordained ministers' to minister to God's people (this is not God's ideal). One of the reasons for this is because the only people they are sure might be truly born again and qualified to minister to God's people are the ordained ministers. This in itself is an indictment on the quality of work done to raise true disciples in such assemblies.

We can see from today's Bible verse that it is expected for believers to be a blessing to each other when they come to church gatherings. They are not only expected to minister their material resources but are expected to minister spiritual substance to each other. This is one way believers grow. But this is only possible when the focus of churches go from raising children who believe their main contribution to the work of God is financial to raising sons who know that it is an aberration for them to remain spiritual babies.

Doctrine makes disciples. The teaching people receive would go a long way in determining the quality of believers they would be-- whether they would remain spiritual babies or grow into maturity.

Go into today remembering that God expects you to be a blessing to His people through your gifts rightly dispensed in maturity. Remember that spiritual maturity is a function of the doctrines you continually receive. It is time to stop feeding on baby food(doctrines) and become the great spiritual giant God has destined you to be.
Prayer: Lord, please help me continually grow into the fullness of your stature(Ephesians 4:13-14)

Manner of Thinking

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1910

1 Corinthians 14:20 (NET)
Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking. Instead, be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature.

Aku grew up among some of the most cunning and dishonest people, so this made him very suspicious and untrusting. This affected his relationships with his friends even after he became a believer,  and this even affected his relationship with his wife because he was too suspicious and untrusting.
As he became more spiritually mature,  he understood that because he was in Christ,  he was not the one taking care of himself but the Lord. He stopped being suspicious and untrusting.  He realized that being that way had not really helped him in life. It alienated his friends and made it impossible for him to enjoy the peace of God. Even though he remained wise and observant, he stopped being a suspicious untrusting person because he now understood that his life was God's idea and his security God's responsibility.

In today's Bible verse, we see a very important guiding principle of thinking that every believer should imbibe. We are not to be children in our thinking, but when it comes to evil and malice, we are to be children. We can afford this because we are children of Almighty God.
There are revelations that God cannot reveal to believers who are too simple and childish in their thinking and reasoning. But there are depths of peace that cannot be reached by those who are too suspicious and untrusting.

God wants us to be advanced and critical in our reasoning because He wants to reason with us(see Isaiah 1:8). He doesn't want us to be simple thinkers who can be swayed by winds of highfalutin doctrines.
One way to ensure we are not simpletons and childish in our reasoning is for us to have hearts that seek knowledge and understanding. “…with all thy getting get understanding”--Proverbs 4:7.

Read, ask questions, seek to know. The internet is not only meant for social media but can be used for wisdom and understanding imparting research.

Prayer: Lord, give me a heart that seeks wisdom and understanding. Amen.

Wait

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1909

1 Samuel 13:11-12 (NET)
But Samuel said, “What have you done?” Saul replied, “When I saw that the army had started to abandon me and that you didn’t come at the appointed time and that the Philistines had assembled at Micmash,I thought , ‘Now the Philistines will come down on me at Gilgal…’ So I felt obligated to offer the burnt offering” (Read 1 Samuel 13:1)

Have you ever had to wait for something? A medical test result? A phone call? An interview outcome? We all have had to wait for something at one time or the other. Waiting tends to come with some sense of apprehension which usually arises from fearing the worst, and the bible says that fear has torment (1 John 4:18).

In our text above, we see how Saul yielded to pressure and transgressed the office of a priest. Samuel delayed and for fear of being deserted by the army and of failure, Saul sinned. This was a flaw in Saul as he exhibited it again in 1 Samuel 15 verse 24 which reads “And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice”.

Friends, to successfully wait out times of trial and pressure to compromise, you must first be a person who exalts the [Word of the] Lord above all else. Again, you must fear only the Lord. The fear of the Lord will lead you aright, but the fear of man or the desire to please man will lead you astray. Again you must be a person who is led by the Holy Spirit by faith and not by sight. The rudder that steers your ship cannot be external, it has to be internal otherwise, you will, like Saul, feel obligated/pressured by circumstances to act/compromise.

Keep your eyes on the Lord, be a person of prayer, wait; don’t give up, don’t give in.

Principle of Kingdom Greatness 2

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1908

1 Corinthians 14:4-5 (NET)
The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, but the one who prophesies builds up the church.
I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened.

Ever since Amaka started understanding how that God's kingdom is real and not just a concept or metaphor, and is a kingdom that would literally take over the kingdoms of this world when the Lord returns (see Rev 11:15, Dan 7:14, 27, Ps 86:9), she started seeking [to understand] the kingdom of God more. One of the first things she discovered as she began to study the kingdom of God was that in the kingdom, even though we all have an equal heritage as sons of God, some would be called greater in the kingdom because of their service, faithfulness, and rewards. She started observing that we are not all at the same level in the kingdom of God. Some people are greater than others, and this is because of their fruitful work for God among people.

From today's Bible verses, we see a principle of kingdom greatness play out. Those who serve others with their gifts are greater than those who don't. Speaking to God in an unknown tongue is good for self-edification (see 1 Cor 14:4), but using the gift of prophecy or tongues with interpretation to edify God's people is better. But please note that speaking to people with tongues is different from praying [to God] in an unknown tongue (see 1 Cor 14:2), in which case there wouldn't be a need for the tongue to be interpreted since you’re talking to God who understands all things.

In the kingdom of this world, it is considered better to get than to give, but in the kingdom of God, it is better and more blessed to give than to receive(see Acts 20:35). It is better to edify people than to edify only yourself. But remember that you would be more effective in edifying people if you have first built up yourself in the secret place.

Go into today remembering that heights of greatness in God’s kingdom is reached by a heart more disposed to give than to get.

Prayer: Father, please help me to be great in your kingdom and do exploits for you. Amen.

Principle of Kingdom Greatness

🔊Download Audio Here ☞ bit.ly/aud1907

Matthew 18:4 (NET)
Whoever then humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

As Amaka started reading the Bible for herself and growing in the knowledge of the Lord, she discovered that she was being transformed by the renewing of her mind through the word (Rom 12:2, Col 3:10). This manifested in her becoming more humble and gentle, and more fruitful in serving the Lord.
She realized that she was becoming greater and greater in the kingdom as she was being transformed more and more into the nature of Christ. This greatness manifested also in the way demons now feared her and angels esteemed her. She was now closer to the Lord and could more easily get heaven to intervene in situations (see John 15:7, John 14:23).

In Matthew 5:19, we see that those who influence people for righteousness the most are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. They do this by making disciples; teaching them to observe all the commandments of the Lord (see Matt 28:19-20). Please note that these commandments are not the Lord's commandments as presented by Moses, but His commandments as presented by He Himself (when He came as flesh), and by His apostles later on.

In Matthew 18:4, we see that the greatest people in the kingdom of God are those with childlike humility. You cannot serve God fruitfully without this kind of humility because you would need grace (divine empowerment) to serve fruitfully, and those who enjoy grace are those who are humble (see 1 Pet 5:5, James 4:6).

Go into today remembering that greatness in the kingdom of God is infinitely better than greatness in this world. God wants us all to be great in His kingdom, but this is attained through a humble heart that is willing to learn and serve.

Prayer: Father, please help me to be great in your kingdom and do exploits.
