Don't Neglect Your Gift

1 Timothy 4:14 (NET) Do not neglect the spiritual gift you have, given to you and confirmed by prophetic words when the elders laid hands on you.

When Shola was a student at the university, he walked in certain spiritual gifts. He could see visions and prophesy. But after he graduated and got a job in the busy city, he neglected his spiritual gifts and was more concerned with other things. He found that even though he was making some money, he was not fulfilled but felt hollow and empty inside.

There are so many lessons from today's Bible verse that we would have to revisit it another day. The first point is that it is possible for a person to neglect his spiritual gift. Every gift has the attendant disciplines that activate it(fan it to flame) and keeps it active. For example, if a person has prophetic gifts (word of knowledge, word of wisdom, prophecy, discerning of spirits-- seeing visions), it is important for such a person to be given to prayer and the ministry of the word. Such a person must be committed to praying in the spirit on a very regular basis. Not being intentional about prayer (long prayers in the spirit) is functionally the way to neglect the prophetic spiritual gifts. Some other gifts require that you be a minister of God's presence and dwell constantly in communion with the Holy Spirit. Songs and worship are key to this.

It is important for the believer to understand his spiritual gift and be given to its attendant spiritual disciplines.

Even though Shola was now making some money, he lived a miserable defeated life because he ignored his spiritual gifts and disciplines and started running after money.

Go into today remembering that spiritual gifts were given to help enhance your fruitfulness. It is unwise to ignore them. If you have ever walked in a spiritual gift even once, it is because that gift has been given to you. It is incumbent upon you to learn the disciplines that activate it.

Prayer: Lord, please activate every gift that you have given me and help me never to neglect them. Amen.

When We Give (This Matter of Giving)

Philippians 4:18 (NET) For I have received everything, and I have plenty. I have all I need because I received from Epaphroditus what you sent – a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, very pleasing to God.

It is important to stress that the believer’s motive in giving is very important. A believer must never treat giving as a money-doubling exercise for any reason. Rather meditate on the following that happens when we give and let love, faith, a sense of responsibility, a need to communicate honor and compassion motivate your giving.

When we give to God, we are performing an act of worship and service to God, we are communicating thanksgiving and appreciation while also honoring Him.

When we give in God’s house and to God’s work, we are contributing to the prosperity of God’s work and playing a part in having needs meet (Exo 25:1-9; Acts 2:44-45).

When we give to parents, spiritual leaders, etcetera, we are communicating honor and regard. This is pleasing to God. (Matt 15:4-6; 1 Tim 5:17-18)

When we give to the poor and the needy, we are communicating love, compassion, and mercy (1 John 3:17). We must always be willing to give to those who cannot repay our kindness, God himself delights in such.

We also exercise faith when we give sacrificially. We don’t just do so by giving to receive, but rather by giving despite mitigating circumstances because we believe that God who supplied that resource will yet supply again (1 King 17:7-16).

We cause thanksgiving to abound unto God when we give. In today’s text, we see how that the giving of the church in Philippi to Paul was recorded as “a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, very pleasing to God”. Here's how 2 Corinthians 9:11-12 puts it, “You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous on every occasion, which is producing through us thanksgiving to God, 12 because the service of this ministry is not only providing for the needs of the saints but is also overflowing with many thanks to God.”

Now note, God rewards our giving, it is part of our labor of love and God is not unfaithful to forget them. However, let love, faith, honor, mercy and a sense of responsibility lead your giving and not profiteering. That’s the godly way to go.

Say this: I am a giver, God is my source, he multiplies grace unto me and I always abound unto every good work.

How to Give (This Matter of Giving)

Click Here to download audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2187
2 Corinthians 9:7 (NET) Each one of you should give just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, because God loves a cheerful giver.

Nicholas was around when the youth pastor was counseling Tessy on the matter of giving, at a point he couldn’t help but butt in. “I’m sorry sir”, he said, “But I can’t help but wonder, is this not too much? I mean, if I give to all the people you have mentioned, what will I have left? My income is limited, and I still have bills to pay?” The pastor responded:

Well, if you will just allow me to finish, you see, the Bible not only tells us whom and to what we can give to, it also lays out for us how we can give and I will attempt to lay them out for you as briefly as I can.

Plan Your Giving: Don’t be an impulsive giver, that rarely comes from a place of thoughtfulness and deep convictions, it mostly comes from emotions and whipped up sentiments. Remember our text says ‘…just as he has decided in his heart’. So, learn to sit down and plan what you will be giving, to what and to whom.

Give According to Ability: ‘… to finish what you started, so that just as you wanted to do it eagerly, you can also complete it according to your means. 12 For if the eagerness is present, the gift itself is acceptable according to whatever one has, not according to what he does not have’ (2 Corinthians 8:11-12 NET). Enough said.

Give Bountifully and with Simplicity: The Bible teaches us in 2 Cor 9:6 to give generously. Be as generous as you can in your giving, remembering that it is God who supplies the eater with bread and the sower with seed. Also, giving the Bible way is giving with simplicity. Don’t be flamboyant in your giving; don’t make a scene, it just glorifies you and not God.

Give Willingly & cheerfully: God wants our giving to come from our heart. Exo 25:2 “Tell the Israelites to take an offering for me; from every person motivated by a willing heart you are to receive my offering” (NET). Your heart is very important in whatever we do to and for God. It’s better not to give at all than to give grudgingly, however, it is best to give from a willing and cheerful heart (2 Cor 9:7)

Give Sacrificially: In all of this, never forget that there is a place for giving sacrificially, God notices our sacrifice when we give sacrificially. Jesus made special mention of the widow who gave all she had, her giving didn’t look like much on face value, but before God it was great (Mark 12:41-44). Also, Bro Paul commended the Macedonians of whom he said, “For I testify, they gave according to their means and beyond their means. They did so voluntarily” (2 Cor 8:3 NET).

Go into today determined to give bountifully as the Lord gives you the ability.
Prayer: Lord, help me to give acceptably and walk in the attendant blessings.

This Matter of Giving: Why Them?

Click Here to download audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2186

Mathhew 22:37-39 (KJV) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself

Tessy has a dilemma. She is a young believer who came to Christ not so long ago. She is a regular income earner and prior to her new life in Christ, she spent her money however she chooses. However, now that she is a believer, based on the teachings she has heard and the conviction of the Holy Ghost in her heart, she has come to know that there is a way God wants her to spend her money. So, one day after the service, she approached her youth pastor asking how God would have her give. So, he answered her:

Firstly, you must understand that all our good works are to be done as unto the Lord. Meaning that, whatever we do, we must do it seeing it as a service to God. And again, when it comes to knowing God’s mind concerning any matter, the word of God is our surest guide.

Parents: It is God’s precept that children should honor their parents (Exodus 20:12; Ephesians 6:1,2). The Bible also teaches us that giving is part of the display of honor (Matthew 15:4-6; Prov 3:9), therefore, in honoring our parents, we must learn to give to them as well.

To the Work of the Ministry: Right from the building of the tabernacle (in Moses’ time) right down to the building of the temple in Solomon’s time, the people of God were required to give to it (Exodus 25:1-9; 1 Chron 29:1-9). Some of Jesus’ followers also gave to his ministry (Mark 15:41). It is a mark of irresponsibility not to support the gospel in your local assembly, if your heart is there, your treasure should also.

To Ministers of The Gospel: God has ordained it that ministers of the gospel are entitled to be taken care of by those they minister to. Just like Levites were apportioned a part of the temple sacrifice for their sustenance, likewise even the new testament ministry gifts (1 Cor 9:6-11; 1 Tim 5:17-18; Luke 10:3-7).

To the Poor: The Lord is particularly interested in the welfare of the poor, hence he has ordained that we give to the needy as much as lies within our abilities (Prov 28:27; 19:17) Mark 14:7 and John 13:26-30 suggests that Jesus had such a practice of giving to the poor.

Fellow Believers and Others: It is God’s will that we do good to and give to fellow believers as often as we have the opportunity to do so (Matt 25:34-40), He also wants us to do good to all men as much as it lies within our power (Gal 6:10)

Go into today with the assurance that God gives bread to the eater and seed to the sower and He will multiply all grace towards you, so that you having all sufficiency in all things, will always abound unto every good work.

Say these words: God is my source, I am a giver, grace is multiplied towards me and I abound unto every good work.

This Matter of Giving: Why Me?

Click Here to download audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2185

Beware of scammers! No one in Streamglobe would contact you personally to request WhatsApp Code or money.
1 John 3:16-18 (KJV) Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

There are not many touchy subjects like that of giving (in the church) today. This matter has supplied plenty of ammunition with which many skeptics, cynics and all sorts have used to attack the church. Part of this is due to its abuse of application and the paucity of (balanced) teaching on the subject matter. However, a proper examination of the scriptures will supply light and impart understanding on the matter.

Much like everything else, giving for the Christian is based on what he has received of God. In our today’s text, we see the Bible referencing the sacrifice of Jesus for us, and in the very next breath speaking of how the believer must likewise lay his life for his brethren and gave the example of meeting the need of a brother by giving.

By virtue of salvation, we have received a new spirit which stems from God. Therefore, love is now our character definition, and love is best displayed through sacrifice. Remember the Bible charges husbands to love their wives (Ephesians 5:25)? You can ask any woman how she knows that her husband loves her. I assure you, it won’t just be “When he says ‘I love you’ while looking at my with puppy eyes”.

A husband can say ‘I love you’ until he gets blue in the face, but if he doesn’t back that with corresponding actions, his ‘I love you’ will begin to sound like noise. Ephesians 5:25 that we referenced reads, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it;”.

Go into today armed with the knowledge that we give in the light of what we have received (Salvation in Christ) and what we have become (New Creations).

Say to yourself: I am in Christ, I am a giver because He is my source. I have and I give, I give abundantly. I lend to the nations and not borrow. Thank you Jesus. Amen.

Wanted; Faith

🔊Download Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1892

Luke 8:24-25a (NET)They came to him saying, “Master, Master, we are about to die!” So he got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; they died down and it was calm. Then he said to them, “Where is your faith?” (Read also Luke 8:22-25)

Moses wondered what to do. They were hedged in by the sea in front and the army of their enemies behind. What’s more, he could hear the sound of his people behind him, the sound of about 2 million disgruntled people. Their murmurs rose till it became a din. He spoke to them “Do not be afraid … the Lord shall fight for you”, almost immediately, the Lord spoke as though in response, He said: “Why do you cry to me? Tell the Israelites to move forward. And as for you, lift up your staff and extend your hand toward the sea and divide it, so that the Israelites may go through the middle of the sea on dry ground” (Exodus 14:10-16 paraphrased)

Did you notice the similarity between this account and our text today? It was as though while Moses was saying ‘do something Lord’, the Lord was saying ‘do something son’. That was the same thing with the disciples.

Understand this; you have a responsibility cum a role to play in bringing to bear the intervention of God to a situation. Part of your responsibility is to exercise your faith. Exercise it in prayer; exercise it in speaking. Through the exercise of our faith, we put the power of God to work for us. Don’t just lie there crying ‘why me Lord’, rather fall to your knees and pray ‘hear me Lord’ and then rise to your feet and say ‘hear me wind’.

Go into today with a resolve to exercise your faith often. Start with the little things and then when the storms come, quench it.

Right Focus Great Faith

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1891

Luke 7:4-5 (NET)
And when they came to Jesus, they urged him earnestly, “He is worthy to have you do this for him, because he loves our nation and even built our synagogue.” (Read Luke 7:1-10)

What is your attitude when you come to the Lord with a request? Some come with an entitlement mentality, believing that they deserve every good that can ever come to them as a result of their good works. In our text today, the centurion was seeking healing for his servant. The elders of the Jews came asking Jesus to intervene sighting the good works of this man. However, when the centurion sent words to Jesus through his friends, they had a completely different emphasis, they said,

“Lord, do not trouble yourself, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not presume to come to you. Instead, say the word and my servant must be healed…” (Luke 7:6, 7) He focused not on his goodness but on the power and authority of Jesus.

Good works are good and have their place. Bible says every believer must be careful to maintain good works (Titus 3:8). We are created unto good works (Ephesians 2:10). Our good works give glory to our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16). However, when you come before the Lord, lay your good works aside and stand only on the good work of Jesus Christ. Focus on his goodness, power, and might. Come boldly because of Him, not because of you.

Go into today with a full assurance of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is able, He is willing, He will do it.

Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)  Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

God institutionalized marriage for a purpose.

Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth (Mal. 2:15 NLT).

If you are not raising godly offspring, you are not fulfilling the purpose of God for marriage. Your children were given to you by God and your duty is to train them in the way of the Lord remembering that you will give account for them.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6 KJV).

In order to be a good teacher, you must have gained mastery in the area you are to teach. As a godly parent, you are to teach God to your children. This requires that you know God and know His ways.

You also must be able to know the way of God that is peculiar to that child and teach him to walk in it. All parents, therefore, must learn the art of asking and receiving from God so they may receive specific instruction concerning each child. Read Genesis 25:22-23.

Hebrews 11:23 (KJV)  By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

Go into today making up your mind to raise godly seeds. Remember to consider your children's spiritual welfare when decided where they would have their academic studies. Too many children from Godly homes have been subverted because their parents sent them to study in godless environments.

Say the confession: I am blessed. My family is Blessed. Everything about me is blessed, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Genesis 18:19 (KJV)  For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

Many of the men of reckon in the Bible were either dedicated in separation to or chosen by God as babies. All of these babies who eventually grew to become great leaders, deliverers, prophets and great men of God were strategically placed in homes. For example, Abraham received Isaac from the Lord; Isaac and Rebekah interceded for Jacob; Hannah gave Samuel to the Lord; Zacharias and Elizabeth were faithful servants of God, they gave birth to John the Baptist; A Levite who married another Levite gave birth to Moses, just to mention a few.

It is obvious that God is interested in homes (families), their seeds and how such seeds are nurtured. God seeks continuity of His plans and agenda, he hence seeks family such as Abraham’s who will do due diligence in committing whatever God has handed over to them to their children and children’s children.

Just like it was with Abraham, there are blessings that will be released only to homes that God knows will command their children and households after Him.

Will you donate your home to God so He can birth his purpose through it?  God is searching for sons through whom He will manifest His manifold wisdom to principalities and power (Eph. 3:10).

Go into today remembering that God is particularly interested in homes that are committed to raising children who fear the Lord.
Lord, help me build a home that is a nurturing place for children that would fear and serve You. Amen.

Dealing with Temptation

🔊Click Here to download audio version ☞ bit.ly/audio1888

Matthew 4:1-2 (KJV) Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

When Seyi got into the university, he didn't resume on time because he found out about his admission late. Because of this, he didn't make the best arrangements for his accommodation and had to end up in the same hostel with some really bad boys.

Before Seyi accepted the Lord Jesus, he used to be addicted to drugs and alcohol. Because he understood the temptation he would have to face every day with these new roommates who were drug and alcohol addicts, he determined that the way he would survive spiritually was to rev up his prayer [and fasting] life. He started praying and fasting four times more than he normally did before he moved to that hostel. During this period, he so grew spiritually that he started walking very easily in the prophetic. He never fell for the temptations he so feared because through devotional to prayer and the ministry of the word, he was spiritually strong to withstand the temptations. Two of those his roommates became his converts during that period.

We see in today's Bible verses that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. It doesn't sound right. How would the Holy Spirit lead Jesus to be tempted? Why and for what purpose?

It was necessary for Jesus to be tempted and be without sin so that He can be a qualified high priest who understands what it means for us to be tempted(see Heb 4:15). But the tempter wouldn't have been able to tempt Jesus if the Holy Spirit did not permit it.

I believe it is on the strength of today's verse that we can pray God to 'lead us not into temptation'. Jesus our master has already been led into temptation.

When Jesus was entering a season of temptation, he responded by entering a season of fasting [and prayer]. I believe he did this because he wanted to gather sufficient spiritual might to withstand the temptations. It was after this episode that his ministry began.

Go into today remembering that if there appears to be temptations coming so great that you fear you might fall, the best response is to fire up your prayer life.

Pillars of Godliness 5

Click here to download the audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2182

Beware of scammers! No one in Streamglobe would contact you personally to request WhatsApp Code or money.
1 Timothy 4:12 (NET)  Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.

We previously saw that Godliness manifests in the five attributes mentioned in today's Bible verse. Godliness would always manifest in a person's speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.

We have examined the first four attributes,  today we shall examine purity.
There are various areas in which a person can be said to be pure. There is sexual purity, purity in matters pertaining to money, and purity in spiritual matters(matters pertaining to idol worship and food).

Any form of sexual pleasure derived outside the ambit of marriage (between a male man and a female woman) is impure. A Godly person abstains from all forms of impurity in this area.

There is something the king James Version Bible refers to as 'filthy lucre' (see 1 Timothy 3:3). This is money made from questionable ventures or methods. A person who diverts money meant for the public into his personal treasury is guilty of filthy lucre. A person who makes money through gambling, Ponzi schemes or any other get-rich-quick scheme is guilty of filthy lucre. A Godly person abstains from the impurity of filthy lucre.

The third kind of impurity we shall examine today is that which comes from participation with unclean spirits through idolatry and idolatrous communion through foods. Persons who consult mediums, collect charms and good luck bracelets or jewelry from sorceresses and sorcerers are participating in impurity. This is called  "defilement of flesh" (1 Corinthians 7:1).

In the New Covenant, the only thing the believer is not allowed to eat is blood (see Acts 15:20)-- animals with their blood still in them like strangled or raw animals, etc. When you see people eating raw meat with fresh blood still in it, it is uncleanness, and such traditions stem from idol worship.

A believer who wants to live a Godly life would be careful to avoid anything that makes him impure.

Go into today remembering that godliness is the key that unlocks the treasures and power of your new life in Christ.

Prayer: Ask the Lord for the grace to put away all forms of impurity and live a pure life before Him.

One Father, Many Instructors

Click here to download the audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2181

1 Corinthians 4:15 (KJV)  For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

Richard and Ford were childhood friends but were separated for some years because they attended different universities. They were reunited after graduating from the university but the two friends could no longer blend because they now attended different Church denominations. After their reunion, Ford excitedly invited Richard to a special program in his Church. Richard, however, turned down the invitation. "We have been friends from childhood, do this for the sake of our friendship," Ford said. "We are not permitted to visit other churches, we cannot even listen to messages preached by other preachers, if we do, we will be punished" Richard replied. "But we are all born again Christians serving Jesus, I can’t understand you".  Ford answered and walked away.

Admonishing the church, Paul in 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (KJV) stated that, ‘‘now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

We are not called to disciple a denomination, we are called to disciple the Nations. If you are a leader to whom God has given spiritual sons, you should be secure enough to allow your sons access to other godly instructors, knowing that there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which walketh all in all.

If your sons are going to have balanced growth, they must eat a balanced diet. This will happen when you play your part and allow others to play their part in their lives. One of the most painful things to deal with is disciples that are not balanced or spiritually mature. It would be hard for believers to be mature if all their spiritual diet is from only one minister and none other. Christ didn't design His body that way.

Go into today knowing that the body is not one member, but many and God has placed each of the members in the body just as He decided. (1 Corinthians 12:14,18).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you grow to the fulness of your stature in Christ and be fruitful in every good work.

Walk As Children of Light

Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1885

Ephesians 5:8-9 (KJV)
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Before Shonda believed in the Lord Jesus, she was a gang member who later became a call girl.

Even though Shonda was now a believer translated from the kingdom of darkness and made the light of the world, she still remembered how to walk as a child of darkness. She had to now learn how to walk as a child of light so that her light would shine. She understood that if she did not let her light shine, she could go back to becoming darkness all over again. This was why she did not play with Bible study and Christian fellowship.

Jesus says we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. He also says we should let our light shine. If we do not let our light shine, it can become darkness all over again, and how great the darkness will be. If the salt refuses salt, it can lose its savor and become entirely useless (see Matt 5:13, Matt 6:23).

Go into today remembering that living as light is not an option, it is the only way to continue to be light and salt.

Prayer: Lord, help me to shine the light today and every day of my life.
Lord, please deliver me from every influence that seeks to hinder my light from shinning.

The Way To Kingdom Greatness 3

🔊Click here to download the Audio Version ☞ bit.ly/audio1884

Luke 12:30-31 (KJV)
For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

I was recently in a church camp in Nigeria where I saw a number of people coming to pray in the day and at night. As I rejoiced before the Lord for such a place and the people who came seeking the Lord in prayer and fasting, the Lord pointed to me that many of them really didn't come to seek Him but to seek things through Him. The summary of most prayers was ‘more money Lord’ while it should have been ‘more of you Lord’.

If half of the people praying and fasting in Nigeria are actually seeking the Lord and His kingdom, the nation would have been much better and the people much more prosperous.
Those who seek the kingdom of God seek to please Him in all things; they bring their weaknesses before the Lord until they receive strength to be overcomers. They seek to always be filled with the Holy Spirit who administers the realities of God’s kingdom within us.

I have come to realize that God wants us to love Him. The first commandment is that we love the Lord our God with all our hearts (see Mat 23:37). Paul had very strong words for believers who do not love the Lord (see 1 Cor 16:22). He understood that believers who do not love the Lord can be Satan's biggest tools against the church.

God is our father and every father wants His children to love him. How would you feel if your children only made time to talk to you when they needed you to do something for them?

Those who walk in the Lord's great power and glory are those who seek the Lord and make time to commune with Him. They are those who are great in the kingdom of God.

Go into today remembering that those who truly seek the kingdom of God cannot lack any good thing (see Psalm 84:11). All the things they need will be added unto them (Luke 12:32).
Prayer: Lord, please help me seek your kingdom above all else.

Way to Kingdom Greatness

1 Corinthians 13:2 (NKJV) And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

When Eze traveled to the village for the Christmas celebrations, he came in contact with some challenges that were orchestrated by demons. He tried to cast out the demons, but they seemed too strong for him to handle, and he started wondering why. When he reported the matter to his sister who was a more recent believer, she laughed over the problem and assured him that the matter was resolved. She simply prayed a simple prayer and commanded the demons to leave. The level of calmness and authority with which she commanded those demons showed that she knew what she was doing and already had great power with God. The matter was resolved instantly after Eze’s sister prayed with authority. This was how Eze knew that he did not have sufficient spiritual authority to handle certain matters because he was still a spiritual baby, even though he walked in spiritual gifts and had been a believer longer than his sister.

One thing Eze could say about his sister was that she was a very selfless believer whose love for the Lord [and the brethren] couldn’t be hidden. There was a time she turned down a very high paying job because she was convinced it would hinder her from serving the Lord the way she should. Eze knew he couldn’t do what she did, but he also knew things like that was why she had more esteem and authority in heaven than him.

The path of spiritual maturity and authority is the path of love and selflessness. Just like physically speaking, a young child in the family does not have as much authority over the family estate like when he becomes mature, a spiritual babe does not walk in the level of authority he would walk in when he becomes spiritually mature.

Love is the fruit that God expects to see us produce because of His divine life within us. It is abnormal for those who have been born of God to not be fruitful, but it can happen if they allow themselves to be conformed to the standards of this loveless world.

Go into today remembering that a man who allows himself to be transformed by the renewing of his mind through the understanding of God's Word is a man who would walk in the divine nature of love and wield great spiritual authority.

Prayer: ask the Lord to help you walk in the fullness of your authority in Him.

Pillars of Godliness 4

1 Timothy 4:12 (NET)  Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.

Tina was in an office where a lot of public funds were misappropriated and stolen. She refused to join her colleagues to steal because her heart was filled with faith, and because of this, she was faithful to the Lord. She looked like a fool to her colleagues who had all become very rich, some of whom were church leaders, but Tina remained faithful to the Lord and did not participate in the embezzlement because of her faith. Many years later, she still had great spiritual standing and walked in great authority. She now had many reasons to thank God for giving her grace not to join her colleagues in doing what they did. Unlike her unfaithful colleagues, she did not lose her most precious treasure but increased it. The most precious treasure a believer has is his faith in God (see 1 Peter 1:7). Faith in Christ always produces faithfulness to Christ.

The Greek word translated to mean faith is the same word for faithfulness. That's why in King James Version, you would see that the word translated as faithfulness in today's verse was translated as faith. The word for faith and faithfulness in Greek are the same word. Incidentally, the case is the same for the Hebrew language. Every time we see the Lord or the apostles or the prophets talking about faith in scriptures, they are also talking about faithfulness. In their minds, you cannot separate the two.
The truth is that you cannot separate true faith in God from faithfulness to God.

A godly person is also a faithful person. Some people do not have a faithful personality, such people cannot go far in the kingdom of God no matter how gifted they are. They are inconsistent and unpredictable--that is not a godly attribute. A godly person is a person of great integrity. With him, what you see is what you get. He is not a two-faced person or one who changes with the times.

Go into today knowing that a faithful person is also full of faith. Faithfulness is an attribute of godliness, and godliness is necessary for any believer who would reap the benefits of his divine life and be fruitful.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be truly faithful and fruitful in the kingdom. Amen.

Spiritual Gifts and Love

Click here to download the audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2179
1 Corinthians 13:1 (NKJV) Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

Evelyn was disturbed by the things she was hearing about Sister Sharon. But instead of joining others to gossip, she decided to take out a day to pray and fast for her. Through word of knowledge, she knew that the devil was attacking Sharon and seeking to sink her back into the old life of sin that she was delivered from.
When Sharon was restored, she never knew Evelyn's prayer played a great part in this.

Evelyn would have joined the other women in the church to gossip about Sharon because Sharon had become cold and disrespectful towards her, but she chose to love Sharon instead. That was why she decided to do something about the matter. The only effective thing she found that she could do at the time was to pray. This she did and her prayers were answered.

Evelyn acted in love toward Sharon by praying for her instead of gossiping and condemning her with the others. That was an act of love.
Even though Evelyn had great spiritual gifts, Sharon was restored because of Evelyn’s love and not because of her spiritual gifts alone.

Spiritual gifts without the fruit of the Spirit [of Love] are untruthful. Gifts without love are nothing but spiritual noise.

Go into today remembering that when your spiritual gift is mingled with love, it becomes very fruitful.
Remember that God rewards fruitfulness, and He gave you gifts to facilitate your fruitfulness.

Prayer: Lord God, please help me walk in love and be more fruitful with my spiritual gifts.

1 Timothy 4:12 (NET)  Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.

Miriam had been praying and fasting against her neighbor who was a witch. This her neighbor was very ruthless and wicked. Miriam believed that some things in her life were going wrong because of this her demon processed neighbor. She wasn't entirely wrong. This neighbor was not only oppressing Miriam physically, but she was also troubling her spiritually. Miriam didn't seem to have the victory even though she was a Christian.

After attending a conference her church organized, Miriam realized that she had been wrong all the while. She decided to stop hating and wishing her neighbor harm. She decided that she was going to start walking in love and praying for this her neighbor. As soon as Miriam started walking in true love towards this her antagonistic neighbor, she found that she was no longer afraid of her (see 1 John 4:18). She also observed that her life started moving smoothly, and for the first time ever, this her neighbor was now trying to be nice to her and didn't trouble her again but showed signs that she was now afraid of Miriam. This neighbor later moved out of that neighborhood in a hurry.

It wasn't until Miriam started walking in love that she started walking in the level of spiritual authority that gave her perpetual victory over her enemies.

We have previously examined two of the five attributes of Godliness shown in today's Bible verse. We have seen that a godly person is careful with the use of his tongue and careful in his conduct.

Today, we see the most powerful and important attribute of godliness --Love.
Only those who have been Fathered by God have the power to be truly godly. It follows that only those who are born of God can truly walk in pure love. Most people walk in selfish and self-centered love, a kind of love that is common in the world today. But when a person walks in true love that is not self-serving, he is proving that he is a child of His heavenly Father, and he is walking in a way that would make room for the divine life he has received [in his spirit] to find expression in his daily experiences.
Our Lord Jesus commands us to love even our enemies(Matthew 5:44-48) because as sons of God, we have a unique power and ability to do so. When we obey this command, we set ourselves up for the release of greater power. The greatest spiritual power is released when believers walk in genuine love.

Go into today remembering that only those who have been born of God have the ability and power to love [even their enemies] (see 1 John 4:7-8). This kind of power is such that even Satan does not have the ability to walk in it.

Prayer: Lord, please help me draw from the power of your divine nature I have received and truly walk in Love. Amen.

1 Timothy 4:12 (NET)  Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.

Even though Gerald was a worker in the church, his conduct projected pride, and gentleness was not one of his strong attributes. He had a way of making his presence known and his voice heard. As he studied the dynamics of Godliness, he realized that his conduct did not reflect godliness. He now understood that he was to be humble and gentle-- his conduct was to reflect the nature and character of Christ (1 Peter 3:8, Philippians 2:5-8, Ephesians 4:1-3).

Here's our Lord Jesus in Matthew:
Matthew 11:29 (NET)  Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

We saw yesterday that the control of our tongues is an important attribute of godliness. Today, we see that our conduct is also another important attribute or pillar of Godliness. A godly person must be one whose words and conduct reflect Christ's nature. A person who tells lies is not godly. A proud person is not godly.

Go into today remembering that as a believer in Christ Jesus, it is important for you to be godly so that your life would be able to radiate the nature and glory of God. Remember, godliness with contentment is great gain.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be truly godly in the way I conduct myself. Let the words I say and things I do bring glory to you. Amen.

The Pillars of Godliness

Click here to download the audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2176
1 Timothy 4:12 (NET)  Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.

After learning and understanding how godliness was beneficial to the believer, Gerald wanted to truly be godly because he was tired of the defeated life he was living. For example, he had been spending so much on drugs and he now understood that the power of the divine life could keep him in divine health, but this power is unleashed through godliness.

One of the things the grace of God does to us believers is that it empowers us to live godly lives.
Titus 2:11-12 (NET) For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people. It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age...

In today's Bible verse, we see five areas in which godliness can be made manifest.
The first is in our speech or words.

If a man has control over his words, he has control over his life and destiny (see James 3:2, Proverbs 13:3). Proverbs 18:21 puts it this way: “The tongue has the power of life and death.” The stakes are high. Your words can either speak life, or your words can speak death. Our tongues can build others up, or they can tear them down.

Go into today remembering that one of the important areas of Godliness is in the way we use our tongues. If you can control the use of your tongue, you would be able to control other areas of your life.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you use your tongue wisely.
'Lord, let all my words be seasoned with salt. Let no idle word proceed out of my mouth.

Godliness is Powerful

Click this link to listen to the audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2175
1 Timothy 4:8 (NET)  For “physical exercise has some value, but godliness is valuable in every way. It holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.”

Chris was told by his doctor that he needed to start exercising because his cholesterol level was too high and it was now getting dangerous. As Chris started exercising religiously, he observed that he started losing weight. His body was now more flexible and he wasn't getting tired as quickly as before. Chris also found out that his blood pressure normalized and his blood sugar level was no longer abnormal.

In order for Chris to gain the benefits of a fit body through physical exercises, he had to be committed and refuse to give up. It took a lot of discipline and diligence, but as he continued, he discovered his body got used to the exercise routine and he later started enjoying it.

Godliness can be likened to physical exercise. Godliness may seem like a burden to the flesh, but it is life and health to the soul and spirit. The more we exercise ourselves in godliness, the more spiritually fit and healthy we will be. When a believer is godly, it means he is living with eternity in view. It means he is exercising himself in prayer and the ministry of the word. It means he is deliberate about doing good works that bring glory to his Father in heaven. etc.

Every action we take in time has an eternal impact. If we sow to the flesh, we would reap corruption, but if we sow to the Spirit, we would reap eternal life(Galatians 6:8). Eternal life is the divine life that can manifest even in our daily experiences. For example, it is this life that powers divine health and healing, etc.

Go into today remembering that a believer who exercises himself in godliness would not only enjoy all-round benefits but would be walking in his divine nature and destiny. This is the key to true satisfaction. Remember that godliness does not merely have physical benefits like good health and peace, it has eternal benefits that our minds are too limited right now to fathom. Indeed, godliness with contentment is great gain.

Before You Meet Goliath, Tend The Sheep

Click this link to listen to the audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2174

Zechariah 4:10 (NLT) ‘’Do not despise this small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.’’

God instructed Samuel to anoint David as king in place of Saul over Israel in 1 Samuel 16:1 and as soon as he was anointed, the Spirit of the Lord came upon him (verse 13). He, however, remained as a Shepard boy until the day his father sent him to give his brothers food on the battlefield (1Samuel 17:17, 18 and 28).

Note that David did not hurry to take over the throne from King Saul because he had been anointed or because the Spirit of the Lord had come upon him, instead, he waited for God’s time and while waiting, he attended to his father’s sheep. We saw a similar scenario play out with Joseph who knew that God was with him, yet he served as a servant under his masters.

It is unfortunate today that many believers are after the ‘head of Goliath’ and have abandoned ‘the few sheep'. They want to start big and famous but have forsaken their training classes. Unlike Joseph, they have become proud, arrogant and unteachable because of their big dream. They have forgotten that the God who gave the dream also set the training classes.

Do not neglect today in your chase after tomorrow, it must be step after step, a little here and a little there (Isaiah 28:10).

Go into today knowing that the big dream will only come to pass when you pass the test of training (Psalms 105:19).

Prayer: Lord, grant me the wisdom to wait and learn from you until the day of my showing forth.

Pray For Your Nation

1 Samuel 12:23 (KJV)  Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way.

"This country is a mess!" Joy said, "nothing is working, the leaders are wicked and unconcerned, they are all out to enrich themselves". "It is well my sister" replied Peace. "But sister Peace, are you not tired of this country?" Joy asked. "How can I be tired when I have no other country to call my own. We will cope by God’s grace" Peace replied.

Many Christians are like these sisters; they identify the problem and complain but do nothing about it.

By abiding in Christ, we are kings and priests (see Revelation1:6), this also means that we have duties to perform and one of such duties is interceding for our nations. In Matthew 6:10 (KJV), Jesus commanded that we pray that God's kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

You see, you must do more than to identify and complain about the problems, you must deal with them by interceding. It is after interceding that the right authority to teach and correct the wrongdoings will be granted by God (see 1 Samuel 12:23).

You must come to that point where like Samuel, you can say, ‘‘God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for my Nation’’.

Go into today knowing that it is your duty as a child of God to pray for your country.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for not taking intercession for my country as seriously as I should. From now going forward, help me intercede for my Nation.

Why Ask 1

Click this link to listen to the audio version ☞ bit.ly/audio1874
Matthew 7:11 (NKJV) If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Most good earthly fathers and mothers don't have to wait for their children to ask them for things they need before they give them. Sometimes, our earthly fathers and mothers are the ones to notice that we have a need and meet it before we even realize that we have such needs.

But God is more gracious than the best parents in this world. As a matter of fact, when you compare the goodness of the best man to that of God, that man would seem like an evil person. That's why Jesus said in today's Bible verse that 'if ye then, being evil... '

Why then do we need to ask our heavenly Father before we receive certain things from Him? Why does He keep encouraging us in different parts of His word to ask in order to receive (see Psalm 2:8, Matt 7:7, James 1:5, James 4:2b, etc)? Being so good and loving and kind, why doesn't He just give us all we need and we not needing to ask Him first?

When God made man after His image and likeness, He created in man the ability to have self-will and self-government, and man was to live by submitting this will and government to God. Through the fall, man declared independence from God, and in effect, disconnected himself from the life and government of God. Because God had already given man dominion over this realm(see Psa 115:16, ps 8:6) and God does not go back on His word, man was now the master of his destiny and Satan his master through sin.

Now that God is redeeming man from the fall, He needs men to ask Him before He can do certain things for them. Asking God concerning your needs [and wants] does not inform Him about them (He already knows them), asking Him gives Him the spiritual legal license and access to invade your life and help you. Many times, He needs us to give Him this license by asking Him, that’s why He keeps reminding us to ask.

Because of the fall, almost every action of man is saying to God that 'I do not need you. I can survive on my own'. Asking God would undo that and say 'I need you'. And there are times we need to continually consciously keep asking so as to sufficiently undo the rebellion that the accuser of brethren is using as a legal ground against us.

Go into today remembering that prayer is earthly permission for heavenly invasion. Let heaven invade your life today with God’s goodness.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to give you the grace to always pray according to His will.

Receive with Thanksgiving

Click this link to listen to the audio version ☞ bit.ly/aud2172
1 Timothy 4:4-5 (NET) For every creation of God is good and no food is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving. For it is sanctified by God’s word and by prayer.

Growing up, we used to drink soya milk and eat other meals made with soy. As we grew older, we were told that soya wasn't good because it caused infertility issues. I remember we no longer consumed it for some time until much later when some medical experts said soya oil is one of the best oils to consume. Today, I have read several articles that insist that soya oil is one of the most dangerous oils to consume because it messes with certain body hormones. Butter that was once said to be unhealthy is now highly recommended as one of the best oils for daily consumption.

Today, there may be many things we consume that may not be good for our bodies, but we do not know. Some may even be consumed because we were told that they are good while they are really not good for the body.

For the believer in Christ, we are not under any laws regarding the food we eat. As long as we receive our food with thanksgiving, it would be sanctified and made good for us. It is very important for the believer today to understand and believe this truth so that he would have the required faith to connect with this reality.

Many diseases are caused by the wrong diet. Many times, people don't even know what in their diet is culpable. But for the believer who serves the Lord(as we all should), the Lord promises to bless our food and our water and take sickness and disease from us (see Exodus 23:25).

It is an error to make a doctrine out of matters of diet, but it is very easy to fall into this trap and spend more time talking about diet than talking about Jesus. Let's be careful that we don't expose ourselves to elemental spirits but live in the liberty that Christ has purchased for us.
To the best of your knowledge, eat as healthy as possible, but be careful not to let your trust in Christ's grace for divine health be replaced with trust in a diet plan. It has been proven time and time again that there is more to life than food...(see Matthew 12:23).

Go into today remembering to receive every food set before you with thanksgiving so that it would be sanctified and made good for you.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the food that You provide. I ask that you give me a thankful heart always, In Jesus' name. Amen.
