HOW FAITH WORKS PART 1

image
Heb 11:1
NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. AMP

Faith is more than just belief, faith starts where hope and belief stops. We can hope in anything, we can believe anything, this does not mean we have faith; the God kind of faith. Faith is the physical evidence for spiritual reality. This is the reason why unlike a mere belief, faith is always qualified by works, for faith without works is dead (see James 2:20-22).Faith perceives what is not yet revealed to the senses. Before God does a thing in this three dimensional world on the earth, He first settles (completes/creates) it in heaven. He does this because all He makes have foundations, and the foundation of the physical realm is the spiritual realm.
What happened in Genesis 1:26-28 is the creating of man in the spirit realm or heavenly places, we latter see in Genesis 2:7 the forming of man on the earth. Faith is what causes the making on the earth of things already created in heavenly places.
Eph 1:3 saysBlessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ’.
It is by faith that we receive a manifestation of these blessings in this three dimensional world.
Will be continued…
Go into today knowing that you have the title deed to cause those things that you have received in the spirit realm to be manifested here in this physical world.
Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for the grace to receive great things from you. I pray you teach me how to receive more effectively. In Jesus mighty name. Amen.

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSON

Ps 11:1-3

In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain. 2 For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. 3 When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do a?"

NIV

David refused to accept bride from the corrupt Nigerian contractor because he insisted doing so will violate the principles of His life, He knew collecting that money would mean selling His authority to ensure proper standards were met in the highway construction he was to supervise as the engineer representing the state.

The principles and philosophies with which you build your life can also be known as the foundations of your life. The foundations of your life as a child of God should be God’s word and the principles of His kingdom (this is summarized in one word- righteousness). This means the only standard of your life is God’s word; these are the principles upon which and around which you build your life. Jesus said ‘ I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built’ (Luke 6:47-48 -NIV).

The principles of the kingdom of God should be the anchor and guiding principle of your life. Let God’s word be the only standard for your life. Let his principles be your philosophy.

Go into today knowing that no storm can shake you because you are living according to God’s word.

Prayer: dear heavenly father. I thank you for your word today. I worship you for being the greatest and the highest. Lord I ask that you help me that my faith in your word will never fail; that you keep me in your peace. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

ENTERING GOD’S REST

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Hebrews 4: 9-11

9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.”

KJV

The rest that God promised us here is the kind of life God designed for us before the fall; the Eden life; a life in which you are productive and fruitful without sweat; a life where you don’t struggle to please God because He works in you both to will and to do His good pleasure; a life of constant and deeper relationship with God. At that point, you’ve been totally swallowed up by God’s presence and glory. Does that mean you will no longer have problems and challenges in life? No. These challenges may come, but you now operate on a higher plane. You are no longer subject to elemental spirits of this world. It’s a life of the supernatural. Now, faith in God’s word is what you need to come into this rest. In verse 1-2, the Israelites of old missed that rest because of unbelief. We see in verse 3 that when we believe we come into that rest. But it is just a foretaste of the glory that will come at the return of our Lord. That is when we will come into fullness of God’s rest. But while we are waiting for that, there is a kind of life that God desires for us. It is the abundant life that Jesus promised us in John 10:10. The starting point is unwavering faith in God’s word, then walking daily with Jesus, depending wholly on Him for everything.

Go into today knowing that Jesus has already paid for your rest in this world, you are walking in victory daily as you keep walking in the light of His word.

Prayer: Thank you dear lord for your rest. I pray your give me grace to walk daily in this rest. Amen

THE NEW COVENANT PT 3

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 10:16

16 This is the agreement (testament, covenant) that I will set up and conclude with them after those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their hearts, and I will inscribe them on their minds (on their inmost thoughts and understanding),

AMP

There is no covenant that does not have terms or laws. If you break the terms of a covenant you are in, you are voiding it and there will be consequences; you may also cease to enjoy much of the benefits obtainable in that covenant.

The laws or terms for this new covenant of peace and reconciliation we have with God has been written on our hearts and inscribed in our minds(see Heb 10:16).This is the reason why we have to renew our minds by replacing our old philosophies about life (these clog our sensitivity to the spirit)  with the principles of the kingdom of God (see Rom 12:2).

Go into today knowing that you are in a new covenant that does not require you to struggle to bring fruits of righteousness but requires a submitting to the authority and leading of the Spirit in order to do so(Gal 5:16).

Prayer: Thank you heavenly father for including me in your new covenant. I pray dear lord that you help me thoroughly renew my mind and walk in your light daily. In Jesus name. Amen

THE DISCIPLINE OF REST

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Genesis 2:2

“And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.”

KJV

Laurie Ellsworth writes “We must force ourselves to slow down. Many of us have been raised to feel guilty about being idle even for a few minutes. We were taught that hardwork is good for the soul-and it is. Work was God’s idea for us right from the beginning since Adam and Eve worked the ground before sin ever entered the picture. But when we are tempted to think more is more, that’s wrong thinking. I believe God rested on the seventh day of creation not because He needed a break, but to give us an example to follow-because we do need to rest. For the sake of our health, we must stop our compulsive activity and force ourselves into occasional inactivity.” God instituted the Sabbath to teach us that our success in life is not all about our efforts, we need to take out time to rest. This opens our eyes to the truth that we need to depend on God for our sustenance and not just our efforts. In 1 Samuel 2:9, we are told that by human strength no man can prevail. One of the ways to prove that we are dependent on God’s ability is by taking out time to rest. Let us not get ourselves into the rat race; one thing about it is that whether you win or not, you’re still a rat. Have a day of rest, take a break and go on a vacation, create time to rest, i.e. relaxing both physically and mentally, then you will be refreshed when you stand up; God will give fresh strength to take up the next assignment.

Prayer: thank you heavenly father for your great love. I pray dear lord that you give me the grace to rest knowing that you are ultimately my source in this life. Thank you lord for hearing me, in Jesus name. Amen

THE DISCIPLINE OF WORK

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Gen 2:15

15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
NIV

The concept of work, i.e. gainful labor, employment, vocation or occupation was God’s idea because after God created man, He gave man work to do before sin came into the picture. Genesis 2:15. God Himself worked for six days prior to the creation of man before resting on the seventh day. Throughout the scripture, God teaches us to work and not to be idle or lazy. That is why He has put in us some gifts and talents so that we can use them to work. Exodus 18:20 tells us that there is a way we must walk and a work we must do. Luke 19:13 “So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, 'Do business till I come.'” (NKJV). The purpose of our gifting is to work with it till the return of our Lord. We must not be scared or tired of working. In Genesis 1:28, God opens our eyes to the fivefold dominion mandate He gave us which begins with being fruitful. You can’t be fruitful if you are not engaged in some form of work. God wants to bless us, but He will not just bless you if you are idle, He wants to bless us by blessing the works of our hands. Psalms 90:17 (KJV) “And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.” You must have a mind to work like the Jews of Nehemiah’s days; Neh. 4:6. You can’t access the blessings of the Lord if you are not diligent with your work. It is God’s will for us to work diligently and cheerfully with our hands. Prov. 10:4, Prov. 12:24, Prov. 13:4. Job 24:5 (KJV) “Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.” The revelation in this verse is that God has made provisions for your ‘wilderness’ to yield food for you and your posterity if only you will go forth to your work.

Go into today knowing that God is set to prosper the work of your hand. Bring Him into every work you do and see His grace at work in your work.

Prayer: thank you heavenly father for your great love, thank you for giving me the ability to do work. I pray dear lord that from toady I will see a greater dimension of your grace in my work, in Jesus name I pray. Amen

THE DISCIPLINE OF GIVING

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Luke 6:38 (KJV)

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

The Lord teaches us believers to be givers because giving has a way liberating us from the yoke of mammon. Giving actually breaks the power of greed over our lives (this power hinders us from receiving more from God). God is a giver by nature, and He expects us to be givers like Him, and on His own terms. Matthew 5:42 (KJV) “Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away”. This is Christ’s instruction explaining what sort of attitude He wants us to exhibit in terms of giving. Giving is a discipline because it involves some form of self-sacrifice. We are not supposed to be stingy. (Matthew 10:8 KJV) “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” Whatever we have now was freely given to us, from our soul salvation, to all the blessings and benefits of the kingdom of God. Therefore our Father expects that we show similar benevolence to others as we introduce the kingdom to them. There is actually a blessing in giving, because in the kingdom of God, it is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35). In the kingdom of God, we receive by giving magnanimously.

Go into today with a renewed zeal to give more.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for giving me your son Jesus Christ. I pray you help me be like you and freely give the things that I have received. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.

THE DISCIPLINE OF FASTING

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Mark 9:29

So He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting."*

NKJV

Fasting is God’s way to deepen and strengthen prayer. Your prayer life will never be what God wants it to be until you practice the privilege of fasting. Wesley Duewel writes “This is a time of spiritual warfare for people and nations, but carnal Christians prefer a parade. It is a time for unity, but carnality pulls for self. We need spirit-energized action, but the carnal self prefers speeches. It is a time of fasting, but our people prefer feasting. (Isa. 22:12-13)”. Biblical fasting is a form of self-denial for the sake of Jesus and His kingdom. It is a deliberate abstinence from some or all food for a spiritual purpose. It demands a deep level of commitment and sacrifice. The discipline of fasting can also be applied to sleep. Christ often fasted from sleep in order to spend time alone with the Father. A deliberate withdrawal from the fellowship of friends and family for a time in order to devote yourself more fully and exclusively to fellowship with God and intercession is true fasting. In an even broader sense, fasting is any deliberate self-denial and abstinence for the purpose of becoming spiritually stronger and advancing the work of the kingdom of God. You can fast from your own ambitions, desires and plans, from legitimate pleasures, rights and joys, and from comforts and luxuries.

At the heart of the gospel is the cross. The spirit of Christ is a spirit of self-sacrifice. The cross, self-sacrifice, self-denial and fasting are all interrelated. It is the spirit of putting God first, of seeking God’s kingdom first, of putting priority on God’s will and eternal goals, of taking up your cross daily and following Christ. At the heart of the sanctified life is a crisis of the crucifixion, of self-surrender, and of total commitment followed by a crucified life. The spirit-filled believer should find joy in fasting for kingdom goals. (Wesley Duewel, touch the world through prayer, pg 97-98).

Go into today knowing that fasting is not a chore but an opportunity to further receive from God.

Prayer: thank you father for this day. I pray you give me the grace to fast right. In Jesus name. Amen

THE DISCIPLINE OF MEDITATION

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Psa 1:2

“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night”.

KJV

Meditation is a discipline because if you don’t deliberately and consciously engage your mind to do it, you won’t do it. Meditation helps you to eat the word of God, it’s a process that enables you to transfer the logos from the bible into your heart, it’s only when you do this that the Holy Spirit will find a substance to use in transforming your life. God told Joshua to meditate on the word day and night (Joshua 1:8) because it is the only way you can remain within the circumference of God’s will for your life. You can’t grow spiritually if you do not meditate on the word of God. (1 Peter 2:2). We are told in 2Cor. 10:5 (KJV) “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”. One of the ways to cast down imaginations and arrest wandering thoughts to the obedience of Christ is through meditating on the word of God. Meditation prepares us for warfare, because it helps you to have the word, which is the sword of the Spirit, and make it readily available to do battle at any time and in any place. Our minds cannot meditate on the word on its own, because it is inclined towards evil by default, we must consciously and deliberately engage our minds to meditate on the word and think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report; that have virtue and praise. (Phil. 4:8).

Go into today determined to take out time and meditate on God’s word. Let God’s word be the only standard for your life.

Prayer: Thank you father for giving me this ultimate weapon to bring down strong holds in my life. I pray dear lord that you help me meditate right from today, in Jesus name. Amen

THE SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE OF WORSHIP

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Ps 132:7

We will go into his tabernacles; we will worship at his footstool.

ASV

Worship is not just singing and dancing, it’s far more than that. Worship is a continuous yielding of ourselves to the Lord. It affects every area of our lives. It’s not confined to a particular location or structure, we are supposed to worship everywhere at every time. Rom 12:1-2 “So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life — your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life — and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” (THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson.) Worship is an offering of ourselves to the Lord that must be made daily. It is a lifestyle. The Lord does not require just songs alone from us when we come to worship; He requires that we yield our lives totally and completely to Him daily. Anybody that does not live this way but sings worship songs is only making noise, because the song will not ascend to God’s throne. Let us live a life of worship.

Go into today with a renewed determination to offer yourself completely to God in worship.

Prayer: thank you heavenly father for making me your own. I pray your spirit will keep me from doing evil and that I will dwell in your presence all the days of my life. In Jesus name. Amen

SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE: WARFARE

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

1 Tim 1:18 says This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare”,

(NKJV)

When you give your life to Christ, you get conscripted into the army of the Lord, because you are at war. It is important we understand this so that we can gird up ourselves to battle. If you don’t discipline yourself in spiritual warfare, you can’t come into your inheritance in Christ. The warfare is a ‘good’ warfare because we are fighting from the victory side. Although Christ has done the work already on the cross, we still need to take our stand based on the finished work and wage war against the kingdom of darkness. Eph 6:10-13 ”Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”(NKJV). We need to know that we are not the ones fighting; we enter into battle on our knees while the angels do the fighting. Understand that if we don’t engage in fervent prevailing warfare prayers, the angels can’t engage in the battle in the realms of the spirit. Warfare is a discipline because we must create out time to build an ever growing prayer alter in order to attract divine attention and intervention. We must engage in deliberate and strategic warfare prayers.

Go into today knowing that you are victorious through Christ who has given you the attack weapon of the word and prayers. Let all your confessions concerning life be (based on) the word of God.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for your victory that I now walk in. I pray you help me walk always in the light of your word. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE: PRAYER

image
The oxford advanced learner’s dictionary, 8th edition defines discipline as “a method of training your mind or body or of controlling your behavior, an area of activity where this is necessary. Or the ability to control your behavior or the way you live”. Being successful at whatever we do requires some level of discipline. When you consider the lives of the apostles and the patriarchs of old, you will notice that self-discipline was a common trait in all of these lives. God has great plans for us, but for us to fulfill these divine plans for our lives, we must be disciplined. I will discuss eight disciplines we must subject ourselves to if we are to grow into the men and women of great influence that God wants us to be.
1. The discipline of prayer:
You can’t have any influence with God if you are not a man or woman of prayer. God has planned for ordinary Christians like you and me to become mighty in prayer for the blessing and salvation of people and the reaping of Christ’s harvest among the nations today. You don’t have to spend hours each day to qualify for God’s prayer army. Thank God for those who can and do pray like that. But He knows the limitations of your own situation, your schedule, and your home and employment responsibilities. His plan is intended to add a whole new dimension to your prayer life. Whether you are a business executive or housewife, a factory worker or student, a layman or a minister of the gospel; God desires for you to begin a thrillingly new and more effective life of prayer. You can have a new power and effectiveness in prayer. You can play a significant part in Christ’s plan. You can be the praying person God wants you to be; you can, if you will. Will you? (Wesley Duewel, touch the world through prayer, pg 12-13).
Go into today with a determination to consciously take out a few extra moments and spend it with the lord in prayer and the word.
Prayer: father in heaven. I thank you for this day. Father I realize I do not have the ability on my own to pray as I ought to. I ask you give me this grace today. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

OUR GOD IS GOOD

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Ps 100:5

For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations.

AMP

Do you know how it hurts to be misunderstood and wrongly perceived?

There are many people who live in this world with a mindset that gives room to the notion that God is a hard and tough task master who can never be pleased. They make it look as if there is no way one can please God or be accepted by God.

There is much truth in the reality that God is a judge and this means He is severe. But it is important for you to know that God is ESSENTIALLY GOOD. His severity even reveals His goodness and not the other way round. Being good and being God means He has to judge wickedness in order that righteousness, justice and goodness may not be eroded.

There is no doubt that God chooses mercy over justice. He is more lenient than any human being can possibly be. We as His children are to be like Him. We are to live lives that glorify Him by being loving and merciful.

Go into today with your mind dominated by the truth that God is good. He is bringing the best to you. Better days are ahead.

Prayer: dear heavenly father, I thank you for your goodness and love. I pray you fill me with this nature and a heart of compassion. I thank you for your faithfulness. In Jesus mighty name.

THE NEW COVENANT pt2

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 10:1-2

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

KJV

The law of the old testament had a shadow of the good things that would come in the new testament. God in His infinite mercy prepared that system to preserve His truth because the fullness of time for the manifestation of the son of God had not yet come.

There are certain things that we can understand about the new covenant when we study the old. Reason being that the temple of the new covenant is in heaven, that of the old was on the earth, the temple on the earth was to be a shadow of the temple in heaven just like the old covenant was a shadow of the new therefore it might be easier for us to further understand the new order by studying the old. I think that is one of the reasons God gave us the Old Testament.

The blood of animals were sprinkled to make the people holy but this holiness was an outward soulish one. The blood of Jesus on the other hand makes us thoroughly Holy; Spirit, soul and body (see 1 Thes 5:23). This gives us true access before God and not just access before the covenant in the Holy of holies (God might or might not be present there). The question before us today is would you base your life on the shadow or on the real thing? When you attempt to be made perfect by the law after receiving salvation by faith in Christ Jesus (see Gal 3:1-3), you are leaving the real substance to walk in a shadow. From our text one sign of walking in the new covenant is freedom from sin consciousness, no more conscience of sin (see Heb 10:2). One sign you are walking in the covenant is a constant sin consciousness.

Go into today knowing that when God brought the real covenant He included you in the equation.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for giving me this day. I pray you help me walk accurately in this new covenant. In Jesus name. Amen

THE GRACE OF GOD pt1

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO DEVOTIONAL

Rom 8:9-10

You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.

NIV

The key to spiritual progress is having Christ in you. Because light automatically dispels darkness, when you have Christ in you, every darkness of the sinful flesh is dispelled.

How do we get to the point of having Christ in us, it is simple, we receive Him by faith and not by a trust in our works. It is easier to begin to walk with God on a template that is based on your works to achieve right standing with God, many times, like the Galatian Christians, we are usually tempted to do this, but you have to know that your walk with God is only because of what Jesus Christ did and not because of anything you can do. You cannot earn your way to heaven by observing certain rules; you can only depend on Christ in you to accomplish fellowship and right standing with God. If you have sinned against the lord, do not be deceived, you have trespassed and you should ask your heavenly father to forgive you just as you forgive those who have trespassed against you. Then trust Him that He has forgiven you already and continue to enjoy His sweet fellowship. You have to have this at the back of your mind that your righteousness is not based on your works but based on Christ. He is the one who empowers you to do the right thing

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, thank you for giving me access to your throne through the blood of Jesus. I pray dear lord that you guide me into all truth and deliver me from being deceived again into legalism and thinking my access to you is through my works. Keep me in your truth dear lord from this day forth. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

LEAN NOT ON YOUR UNDERSTANDING

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO

Prov 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;

do not depend on your own understanding.

6 Seek his will in all you do,

and he will show you which path to take.

Sharon’s fiancé jilted her during their final year in the university and this really broke her because apart from the fact that they were both committed Christian students in the university, he depended on her throughout for his upkeep as he was from a very poor Nigerian family. Months passed and Sharon didn’t deal with her bitterness and anger, she was still angry with God and refused to hear her mother’s advice to acknowledge God in all her ways especially now that she was about to marry a wealthy man who’s Christian conviction was shaky. She felt that when she trusted in God concerning her first relationship, it ended badly, why should she trust God now…The marriage with the wealthy man ended very badly, she lost everything; he beat her up when she was pregnant; killing the baby and ruining her womb.

I do not believe there is any right thinking Christian who would not want God to direct his way and establish them, but sometimes discouragement makes some Christians ignore seeking God’s face concerning crucial issues because like Sharon, they think God has failed them before.

I want you to remember that as long as you love God and you have a relationship with Him, all things are going to work together for your Good. It may not seem so right now, but take God for what He says and see Him bring out glory from the story.

Go into today with a renewed zeal to trust in the Lord and let Him in on every detail of your plans.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for your word and your lordship over my life. I pray you give me the strength to trust you even in difficult situations, in Jesus name I pray. Amen

THE ETERNAL INHERITANCE

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 9:15

That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.

NLT

One of the strong attributes of the Old Testament covenant is that it was an accurate identifier of sins. It had proper classification for all sins and their due recompenses.

The old covenant gave the devil legal right to afflict those who sinned. The new covenant removes that power from the devil because Jesus has taken our suffering and cleansed us from all our sins.

There is an inheritance God has promised all those who believe in Jesus. God has promised them Himself; He has confirmed this promise by giving us the Holy Spirit. This promise means we will inherit everything in the universe. We are heirs of all things with Christ because we are one with Him as members of His body (see Rom 8:17, Heb 1:2). This promise was first made when God told Abraham that He is Abraham’s shield and exceeding great reward. God’s great reward for Abraham is Himself (see Gen 15:1). God has promised you the greatest thing in the whole universe- He has given you Himself.

As long as you have right standing with God through faith in Christ Jesus, you are a spiritual descendant of Abraham and all Abraham’s blessings are yours (see Gal 3:29). Go into today knowing that you are blessed with all blessings in heavenly places (the spirit realm that controls the physical)

Prayer: thank you heavenly father for loving me with such great love. I pray dear lord that you help me walk worthy of my calling, in Jesus name.

ORDER OF GOD’S KINGDOM: PROPHETS AND PRIESTS

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Hebrews 8:1

Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

KJV

What priests do is that they mediate as intermediaries between the Spirit realms and the physical. The fallen man cannot do without Priests because we generally cannot access the realm of the spirit without the help of those who have been ordained to access these realms.

The office of the priests and the prophets are functionally similar (but different) just like the work of the law makers (legislators) and the law interpreters (lawyers) are functionally similar but different. The lawyers are like the priests who use the laws to mediate and plead the case of people, or they use it as weapon to bring justice upon the guilty. In the Case of the prophets, they discover the spiritual order and laws that have already been written; these laws are given by God. You will see that Moses was the prophet bringing the laws to the People of Israel but Aaron was the priest that made atonements and sacrifices for the people. You will notice that a lot of reference was made to the law and the prophets as the order that God used to relate with His people in the Old Testament (see luke16:16).

Our relationship with God is Spiritual; our text shows us that Jesus is not a priest for us on the earth(physical realm) but in the heavens. This is the reason why our walk with God in this New Testament is not to be in the flesh but in Spirit.

God has made us Kings and priests (see Rev 1:6). We make atonements (standing in the gap and preserving our generations as salt on the earth) - this is how we are priests, and we are to provide leadership and be examples in the world as kings (shinning our light in the world) - we are salt and light, priests and kings. Go into today with the unshakable revelation of these truths.

Prayer; Dear heavenly father, I thank you for making us priests and kings unto our generations. I pray you keep us in your will all the way, in Jesus name. Amen

CRUCIFIED IN CHRIST

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO

2 Tim 2:11-12

This is a trustworthy saying:

If we die with him, we will also live with him.12 If we endure hardship, we will reign with him. If we deny him, he will deny us.

When a man who is alive enters water and he does not know how to swim, that man is bound to sink; he will sink in the water because of a physical law on earth called the law of gravity. When the man dies, his body begins to float on the water, thereby disobeying the law of gravity. The law of gravity stops working on the dead man.

We had to be put to death in Christ (in the realm of eternity) in order for us as humans to be free from the spiritual law that sentenced us to death. Jesus came to save the whole world; He came to remove the conditionless sentencing of all mankind to spiritual death and this also happened in the realm of eternity; This means that this happened in a realm that is not in time but passes through time, So when He did it in the realm of eternity, it was as if it was done in the realm of time before the beginning of creation yet if He did not do it, we would have remained enslaved to the fate of spiritual death, because we all sinned.

Go into today with the knowledge that your old self has been put to death on the cross and that you are no longer under the limitation of any curse but are under the grace of God.

Prayer: Dear lord, please help me to carry my cross daily and follow you; help me to walk circumspectly and be filled with your Spirit at all times. Amen

THE KINGDOM PROCEDURES PART 1

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Genesis 29:26

"And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn."
NIV

We do not excuse Laban for his dishonesty, but we scruple not to learn from the custom which he quoted as his excuse. There are some things which must be taken in order, and if we would win the second we must secure the first. The second may be the more lovely in our eyes, but the rule of the heavenly country must stand, and the elder must be married first. For instance, many men desire the beautiful and well-favored Rachel of joy and peace in believing, but they must first be wedded to the tender-eyed Leah of repentance. Every one falls in love with happiness, and many would cheerfully serve twice seven years to enjoy it, but according to the rule of the Lord's kingdom, the Leah of real holiness must be beloved of our soul before the Rachel of true happiness can be attained. Heaven stands not first but second, and only by persevering to the end can we win a portion in it. The cross must be carried before the crown can be worn. We must follow our Lord in His humiliation, or we shall never rest with Him in glory.

My soul, what says thou, art thou so vain as to hope to break through the heavenly rule? Dost thou hope for reward without labor, or honor without toil? Dismiss the idle expectation, and be content to take the ill-favored things for the sake of the sweet love of Jesus, which will recompense thee for all. In such a spirit, laboring and suffering, thou wilt find bitters grow sweet, and hard things easy. Like Jacob, thy years of service will seem unto thee but a few days for the love thou hast to Jesus; and when the dear hour of the wedding feast shall come, all thy toils shall be as though they had never been--an hour with Jesus will make up for ages of pain and labor.

Jesus, to win Thyself so fair, Thy cross I will with gladness

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for your word. Please give me the grace to endure that I may smile at last. Amen

POWERS OF THE AGE TO COME

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 6:5

who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age,

NIV

What does it mean to taste in the powers of the coming age?

Rom 8:23(AMP) tells us that we ourselves too, who have and enjoy the first fruits of the [Holy] Spirit [a foretaste of the blissful things to come] groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies [from sensuality and the grave, which will reveal] our adoption (our manifestation as God's sons). What hinders the manifestation of the true nature we have as sons of God (the walking in limitless power and glory) is this flesh of sin that we have.

The powers of the coming age are the powers that we will walk in when our bodies have been redeemed. There is so little we can say about this except that we know that for instance, the physical irrational creatures, like trees, hills, waters were created originally to respond to the command of humans, for instance, we should be able to walk on water, speak to a mountain to be moved and it will respond, speak to trees to wither and they will respond etc. But this really is not the case now because we (humans) are still in the fallen state. One of the reasons the creatures groan is because they cannot fully express themselves for we who have been ordained to order them have also been greatly limited in our ability to express ourselves).

Even though we may not walk in all these powers now because our bodies have not yet been redeemed, we can taste some of these powers because of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to walk in some of these powers; He gives us a foretaste of the things to come.

This study reveals that our relationship with the Holy Spirit and our crucifixion of the flesh is expedient if we must taste of these powers in this current world.

Go into today knowing that it is God’s plan for you to walk in the powers of the age to come.

PRAYER: Dear father. I thank you for your love. I pray you help me walk constantly in a sweet fellowship with the Holy spirit that I may taste these powers. In Jesus name.

OUR SONSHIP

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Eph 1:5-6

5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

NKJV

Further study: John 18:37, John 3:19(click to read)

God indeed chose you before the foundations of the world to be a partaker of His divine nature. God did this because He has loved you with an everlasting love.

God does not exist in a realm like ours; because God created time, He is not bound by the limitation of time.

You did not Choose God, God chose you and ordained you that you may bring forth fruits.

The relationship that God plans for you is one in which you are His son indeed. You were not always God’s son, but as soon as you were joined with Jesus Christ, that possibility became a reality.

We discussed in previous devotionals that the fact that a person has accepted Jesus does not necessarily mean he will become a son of God. John 1:12 tells us that God gives us power to become sons of God. It is your responsibility to put this power to work.

When you were born again, your spirit was born into God’s Kingdom like a new born baby. Now, you would agree with me that even though the baby of a king is a prince, he never gets to walk in the authority His father’s position commands for him while a baby; he is actually at the mercy of his care givers(see Gal 4:1). That is how it is when you are born again, you need to grow spiritually in order to walk in the fullness of the power and blessings God has bestowed upon you.

The extent of greatness and power that God has put within you will never reach its full manifestation until you grow up to sonship. Many Christians never walk in the realm of divine empowerment because they never grow up spiritually. God’s will for you is that you walk everyday in divine power and enablement.

The way you give time to things you do in order to make your physical life comfortable, give such time too to the things that will make your spiritual life grow.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father thank you for this day, I pray you help me grow to the fullness of Christ. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

OUR GUARANTEE

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Eph 1:14

The Spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

NLT

FURTHER STUDY: EPHESIANS 1: 1 Cor 2:9-12

When God saved us, it was with promises; these promises included eternal and everlasting with Him. We who are born again know that when we die in this world, we are promised a life after this one with God forever. We are promised of a better world filled with the pleasures that cannot be described.

When God gave us the promises, He gave us a guarantee.

I remember buying a laptop from a retailer. The laptop came with a one year guarantee that was acknowledged on a sheet of paper. This meant that if the laptop developed any fault within the period of one year, I could return it to the retailer and get a new one. It so happened that this beautiful laptop I purchased developed a fault within weeks. All I had to do was to go to the retailer with the proof of my guarantee.

The Holy Spirit is our guarantee of the promises God made when we were saved (promises of everlasting life with Him, blessings in heavenly places etc.) As long as He lives in you, you can be sure of your abundant Life and eternal salvation.

There are many stories presently going around of visions as to the sincere salvation of many who professed Christ publicly on earth before they died; such stories report that many known Christians were seen in hell. I must tell you that many of these stories are deeply disturbing.

One thing God wants you to know today is that He has given us a guarantee; we need not be afraid whether or not we would make it. All we need to do is to hold unto our guarantee. Just like an honest retailer cannot turn you away when you have your guarantee document, the Lord will not turn you away when you have the Holy Spirit inside you. All you need to keep doing is not to grieve and quench the Holy Spirit; keep that sweet communion you have with Him because as long as He is in you, when you die or the rapture happens, He is the one who guarantees your salvation and redemption.

Prayer: thank you father for giving me the Holy Spirit. May I not grieve Him as I go about Life this week, may I experience a new dimension of His power and grace this week and beyond, in Jesus Name I pray. Amen

THE GOODNESS OF GOD’S WORD

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 6:7

…who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age,

NIV

There is the goodness of God’s word and this is what we get to experience when we graduate from the elementary stage of the faith.

God’s word is power. Every word that God sends to you has the power within itself to cause you to do what it says. If God tells you for instance to raise the dead, within that word is the power you will need to obey and execute. Walking in this knowledge is also what it means to praise God’s word (see psalm 56:4).

There is great wisdom in trusting in God’s word. What it means to trust in God’s word is that you have faith that the word of God sent to you has power within itself to help you execute it. Even though you may apparently not have the capacity within yourself to do it, you obey, knowing that the word released towards you has sufficient power within itself to establish it. You go on trusting in the power of God’s word; that the word that was released towards you has the power within itself to cause you to do what it says.

This is the goodness of God’s word; It causes us to do great and mighty things we did not know of (see Jer 33:3).

Go onto today knowing that embedded in every instruction the lord has given you lies the power to execute it.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for your word you have sent to me today. Heavenly father, I pray you teach me your ways that I may walk in word which is truth. Thank you heavenly father for hearing me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

SHARERS IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 6:4

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,

NIV

It is important to note at this point that the Holy Spirit was given to us all. We all share in the same one Holy Spirit. This is a great method that God has prepared to keep us (His children) in unity. If you and I have the same Holy Spirit, this means that there will be a unity of spirit between us. We will discover that we start having the same insights into the same things and we are all aware (in our spirits) of God’s agenda and move per time.

Unity in the body of Christ is only realized when we all share in the Holy Spirit and obey Him (see John 17:21).

This is also one of the proofs that you have the Holy Spirit; when you and the brethren you interact with are receiving similar discernments, having the same revelations, having similar insights into the current moves of God and sometimes even preaching the similar sermons.

There is a sharing in the Holy Spirit; this becomes an experience for those who have subjected themselves to the lordship of Christ and this is an experience for the mature.

Go into today knowing that God has made special arrangements to foster unity in the body of Christ and you are member of that body.

Prayer: thank you heavenly father for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Father I pray that from this day I will walk constantly in His leading and under His government. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

GROW IN WISDOM

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO

Prov 8:1

Doth not wisdom cry? And understanding put forth her voice?

KJV

When a man is said to be foolish, it is because he has chosen to ignore the voice of wisdom and understanding.

We may say a man does not have wisdom because he didn’t have the opportunity and training of his peers who have wisdom, but we may not have the right to say his lack of wisdom is because he had not the chance to heed wisdom’s voice.

The option of darkness means there is the option of light. The existence of foolishness and simple heartedness is only because there is option of wisdom.

Riches honor and righteousness are accompaniments of wisdom (see proverbs 8:18).

There is always that voice that tells you to do what is right. The strength of that voice is drawn from a fear of the lord God.

Let the wisdom of the lord lead you into all truth today and determine from this day on to follow the voice of right and growth and ignore the voice of ‘me and stupor’. God give us grace in Jesus name.

Prayer: Father in heaven. I thank you for this day you have made for me to manifest in wisdom and grow therein. I ask that you give me grace to grow in my knowledge and understanding. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

ALL THINGS WERE MADE BY HIM

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO

John 1:3

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

KJV

Don’t mind those who say that this world has no creator; they can only explain so much. As a scientist, I have observed that those explanations always get to the point where they stop, there is always a point they get to that they run out of explanations. If you say it all started with a big bang, what caused the bang?

Science also shows that you cannot absolutely make something (in the material world) out of absolutely nothing.

The universe is a product of God’s existence. He existed, so He could cause the universe to exist.

Every physical element was created by the lord God. His word caused the worlds to exist. He created this world from nothing physical but from something spiritual- His word. His word is spiritual energy.

You know science shows us that our words emit physical energy. That is the reason why if you can shout loud enough, something around you will vibrate.

God’s word is power and this power is so constructive that it brings life.

Go into today knowing that the word of God has spoken good concerning you.

Prayer: Father in heaven, I thank you for creating this good world for me to exist in and worship you. I pray that I will never lose focus from your plan for my life, in Jesus name. Amen

FORGET NOT GOD’S BENEFITS

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Ps 103:2

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

KJV

I have come to observe that it is very easy for us to forget even very important events. The people of Israel who God led out of slavery by great acts of wonders and signs often forgot the benefits of the lord and were prone to grieving the lord.

We are told today to forget not all the benefits of the lord. One of the things testimonies and praise reports will do for you is it will help you remember the things the lord has done. You may forget the great things God has done or you may forget to remember those things, but it is easier for you sometimes to remember that you testified about that thing that the lord has done for you.

One of the things that remembering His benefits will do for you is that it will empower you everyday. When you remember what God has done for you in the past, it gives you strength to know He is going to do something great in the now.

Let us go into today knowing that the lord wants us not to forget His benefits

Prayer: Dear heavenly father. I thank you for giving an opportunity to be called your own. I pray that you help me to live in a constant awareness of your benefits in my life. Amen

THE HEAVENLY GIFT PT 2

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

John 17:3

And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

NLT

It is quite clear from the scriptural reference that the way to have eternal life is to know Jesus. What does it mean to know Jesus who is the truth? The bible says you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free so knowing Jesus brings true freedom.

Knowing Jesus begins with believing in Jesus and accepting Him into your heart as your lord and savior. You do this so that you can have a relationship with Him. A relationship with Jesus, just like a relationship with any other person entails constant communication and fellowship (it’s ok to set regular schedules for meeting). There is also a constant link with heaven that keeps us alive as children of God (this one is all the time, without ceasing). This link is the source of our spiritual life. This is our active worship of the father in spirit; where your spirit is in constant connection with the lord; you talk to Him anytime, anywhere and under any condition.

In John 4:10, Jesus said something very remarkable, He said if you know the gift of God and who He is, you would ask and He will give you living water-which is this gift of God and eternal life.

In applying this directly to yourself; you now know what the gift of God is, and you know who Jesus is, the next thing is to do is to ask Him for this living water that causes streams of life to flow out of your inward being. The next stage to having this eternal life is simply asking.

Ask the lord today for the gift that He alone gives; ask Him to give you the living water that you may thirst no more.

Prayer: Dear lord, I thank you for the opportunity to be called your own. I ask that you give me of this living water that is eternal life that I may thirst no more. I ask that out of my inward being shall indeed flow rivers of living waters, in Jesus name I pray. Amen

THE HEAVENLY GIFT

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

John 4:10

Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

KJV

When Jesus came into the world, a gift was released from heaven. When a man becomes born again and is baptized in the Holy Ghost, that person will begin to taste the heavenly gift of God, he begins to see the manifestation of God’s grace.

The gift of God can basically be defined as eternal life (see Rom 6:23). Eternal life is not just the life that makes you go to heaven or never die nor is it just a quantity of life (regarding length), it is a quality of life. Eternal life is transmittable spiritual life that makes things work in this physical realm*(spiritual life that is transmittable to the physical). God has eternal life, and the gift of God to us ward (believers in Christ) is eternal life.

One of the experiences for the mature Christian, after spiritual enlightenment is a tasting of eternal life (see Heb 6:5); it is only people that have gone this far and then turn their backs on Christ (not mere backsliding but consciously rejecting Him) that cannot be restored again (see Heb 6:4).

The heavenly gift of God is the grace of God as administered by the Holy Spirit (this is another way of articulating eternal life), it is an ability God gives people that helps them do natural things supernaturally and supernatural things naturally; like healing the sick, casting out devils, commanding situations etc.

The manifestation of this gift (eternal life) is not limited to spiritual things alone; it manifests itself in every area of life. If God has sent you to the academia or the business world for instance, when you begin to taste this gift, you will see a dimension of wisdom, speed, insight, favor, etc. that is unparalleled.

John 17:3 states: And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

To be continued…

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for this day. I want to live eternal life, save my soul from everything that hinders, In Jesus name I pray. Amen
