The new Covenant 2

Broadcast 4015
Click here for the audio version:

Hebrews 10:16 (NET) “This is the covenant that I will establish with them after those days, says the Lord. I will put my laws on their hearts and I will inscribe them on their minds,”

Sandra felt like she was beyond repair. Growing up in church, she knew all about guilt and shame because of the mistakes she made. Despite once leading the choir, she never really grasped what it meant to trust Jesus for salvation. She thought it was all about trying hard and being strong-willed.

It wasn't until Sandra turned 30 that her roommate shared the gospel with her on her birthday. Suddenly, she realized she had never truly put her faith in Jesus for salvation.

But when she finally did, something incredible happened. God transformed her from the inside out. He wrote His laws on her heart and mind. Her desires and attitudes began to change. Her secret? It was her unwavering faith in Jesus as her Savior. She knew that as long as Jesus was alive, she was safe. She trusted Him completely and obeyed Him absolutely.

Yet, it wasn't just her faith that changed her. It was also God's promise in the new covenant. God had committed to transforming her, and He kept His word.

Remember this today: If you trust Jesus for your salvation, you're part of a covenant with God. And God's promise in that covenant is to change you from the inside out, making you more like Him.

Thanks to the new covenant, even those born with a sinful nature can be transformed into saints with God's holy nature. It's all about putting your faith in Jesus. He'll do the rest.

Learning Meekness

Broadcast 4014
Click here for the audio version:

Matthew 5:5 says, "Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth."

What is your first reaction when someone offends you or does something justifiably wrong to you? Do you instantly respond and give them a piece of your mind? How about when your colleague takes credit and receives recognition for your work? Do you report them immediately to your boss with hopes to prove that you are not a pushover?

For many of us, these are our natural responses and reactions to such circumstances. However, as disciples of Jesus, we are called to the way of meekness. Instead of fighting for our rights and entitlements, we are told to let God fight for us. This is completely countercultural in a world where we are constantly being told to stand up for ourselves. Indeed, the world doesn’t value meekness at all and it cannot because it is the way of the kingdom of God.

Jesus himself demonstrated this principle in 1 Peter 2:23, “when they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.”

You see, meekness is not just about subjecting yourself to undue punishment and suffering. It is about surrendering yourself to the sovereignty of God and entrusting your life completely into His hands. When you practice meekness then, you are demonstrating your complete and total trust in God by refusing to take matters into your own hands.

Your first response then when are you confronted with unjust offenses and wrongs should not be an impulsive reaction and retaliation even though it may come naturally. Let us instead learn to trust God with every aspect of our lives.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please give me the grace to live my life in meekness. Amen.

Pray lest you enter into temptation

Broadcast 4013
Click here for the audio version:
Proverbs 24:10 (KJV) says, “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy   strength is small.”

Fred was told that reading was the key to passing his exams. So, he read diligently but still failed. Being a child, he turned to his mother, exclaiming, "You lied, Mom! You said I'd pass if I read my books. I read them all, but I failed!" His mother, with a gentle smile, asked him how he read. Fred admitted he didn't understand much of it.

Many Christians have heard Jesus' words, "Pray lest you enter into temptation" (Mark 14:38), and they prayed. But when faced with temptation, they fell. Like Fred, they wonder why.

Here's the thing: you shouldn't stop praying until you get an answer from God, just like Fred shouldn't have stopped reading until he understood his books.

But many Christians pray haphazardly. They pray until they feel like stopping, instead of letting answers guide their prayer time.

God says, "I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence, and give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth."

So, decide today: never stop praying until you're stronger than your adversities and empowered to resist temptation.

Fruit of the Spirit 12

Broadcast 4012
Click here for the audio version:

Galatians 5:22-23 (NET) reads, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Growing up, Lanre was shy and awkward. Because of this, he suffered at the hands of bullies. And because he did not know how to express himself as well and as intelligently as his mind processed things, he got angry very easily and found it difficult to control himself when he got angry. After believing in the Lord Jesus, anger and lack of self-control when angry were the reasons his first relationship failed and he did not get married to Tricia.

After walking with the Lord for some time, it became clear to him that his lack of self-control was hindering him from walking in higher dimensions of the grace of God for him. This was when he started taking this matter more seriously. As soon as he acknowledged his fault, his healing started. Before, he would blame the person who offended him for the way he could not control himself when he got angry. But the moment he acknowledged that he had a problem and asked the Lord to help him, his healing began.

If we must walk in the divine nature, just like God, we must be slow to anger and self-controlled even when we get angry.

Go into today remembering that you have the divine nature and the power to put your emotions under control.

Claim Your Inheritance

Deuteronomy 2:24 (KJV) “Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.”

John was just a kid when he started having dreams of greatness. At first, he shrugged them off, but they kept coming. Eventually, he embraced the idea that he was destined for wealth and success. And for a while, things looked bright - he excelled in school, topping his department. But then, life took a sharp turn downhill.

In today’s passage, God promised land to Israel, but they had to fight for it.

Similarly, John had a glimpse of God's plan for his life, but he didn't realize it would be a battle to get there.

Don't expect God's promises to come easy. If you want to see them fulfilled, get ready to fight through faith and prayer (See Ephesians 6:12,18).

Ask God to equip you for the battle ahead, so you can overcome every obstacle in your path (Psalm 18:34).

Galatians 5:22-23 (NET) reads, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Because of the way Lanre was raised, he was very harsh and brash. He was only nice to people he wanted to impress or get something from. He didn't know any other way of doing things because that was the way he was brought up.

After receiving the Lord Jesus and allowing His word to change the way he lives, he found that Jesus was not pleased with the way he behaved.

A gentle person is kind, tender, and mild-mannered. He treats people with the level of kindness and tenderness he would expect from people. God is gentle and humble. So should we because we have received His divine nature and should walk in it.

Go into today remembering that God does not want you to be harsh and cruel. He wants you to treat people the way you would want to be treated, even those who are in the position of serving you.

How to Overcome Sin

Broadcast 4009
Click here for the audio version:
John 8:31-32 (KJV) reads, “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Johnny discovered that a particular sin would not go away after much confession and prayer, so he decided to study the life of Jesus since he knew that Jesus never sinned; he wanted to know how Jesus did it. During his study, he discovered that the reason Jesus never sinned was because he always obeyed his Father. After his discovery, he made up his mind to always obey every instruction God gives him and also decided to spend his time praying for grace to obey God instead of praying to overcome that particular sin.

Today, many Christians like Johnny have a sin that they struggle with. They want to be free and have tried all that they could but are not successful, so they have decided to live with it and keep asking for forgiveness whenever they indulge in it.

If you want to be free, study the word of God to know his commandments and make up your mind to obey them. Secondly, make sure you obey the personal instructions that God gives you. The more you are able to obey God, the freer from sin you become.

Go into today knowing that freedom from sin does not come by trying to overcome sin. Rather, it comes by obeying God’s instructions. It is only those who are submitted to God that have the power to resist the devil (James 4:7). The more submitted you are, the more powerful you become.

Prayer: Father, please give me the power to obey you in all things in Jesus’ name, amen!

You Are God’s Strategy

Broadcast 4008
Click here for the audio version:
Jeremiah 51:20 (KJV) reads, “Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms.”
A nation was ravaged for many years by enemy forces. After every effort by the citizens to secure the land and break free from their oppressors failed, they gave in to servitude while others sought refuge in caves and holes. Gideon was one of such who hid in caves. Being a courageous man, he visited the harvest field to hide some food before their enemies invaded. It was in one of such occasions that he had an angelic visitation; the Lord wanted to help them, and Gideon was his man. “The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valor,” said the angel. Gideon went on to deliver the land after the encounter.

God created the earth and gave its control to man (Genesis 1:26, 28; Psalm 115:16). Man afterward became God’s hands and feet on the earth. If God must act on the earth, it has to be through a man. If he cannot find a man, he cannot act on the earth. So, he is always seeking for men; he is still asking the question, “whom shall we send?” (Isaiah 6:8).

Just like the angel said to Gideon, God is saying, “I am with you, thou mighty man of valour.” If you will heed God’s instructions to you going forward, you also will become a deliverer.

Go into today knowing that God has hope in you; he needs you to be his man on earth so he can do great and mighty things through you.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I avail myself for your use

The New Covenant

Broadcast 4007
Click here for the audio version:
Hebrews 10:16 (NET) reads, “This is the covenant that I will establish with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts and I will inscribe them on their minds.”

Every believer in Christ Jesus should be a partaker of the new covenant. The new covenant is a better Covenant with better promises. Just like with every other Covenant with God, the New Testament is activated by faith. Faith produces faithfulness and obedience.

In the New Covenant, God promises to write His laws in our hearts and minds. This means God will implant His own nature within us. He is transforming us into His image and likeness. God does not just want to give us things in the New Covenant; He wants to make us into people who are like Him. When this happens, we will walk in the realm and reality of God and will inherit all things(Rev 21:7).

Because this is a Covenant, you have a part to play. You have to let God write His laws in your heart and mind by giving yourself to the ministry of the word and prayer. You have to be deliberate and intentional about allowing the divine nature to replace the Adamic nature that you were born with.

God Keeps His Covenants II

Broadcast 4006
Click here for the audio version:
Genesis 15:18 (NET) reads, "That day the Lord made a covenant with Abram: 'To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates River.'"
Mr. Clement had a very successful business with a track record of entering very successful contracts and deals. When he started grooming his first son to take over the business, one of the most important lessons he taught him was how to determine the companies and people he could enter serious business deals, contracts, and agreements with. He said if a man does not keep to time and does not keep his words, he will most likely not keep to the terms of your contracts. He said if a man is patently unfaithful to his wife, he will not be faithful to your contract with him. No wise person enters a serious contract/Covenant with an unfaithful party.

The second Covenant we see in scripture is the covenant God made with Abraham. By this time, Abraham had charted a trajectory of life that demonstrated complete faith and faithfulness. This faith manifested in the fact that Abraham obeyed every command and requirement of God. Every Covenant that God ever had with people always had a requirement of faith and faithfulness on their part. And those who will continue to enjoy the covenant of Abraham, for example, must have the faith of Abraham.

Go into today remembering that God does not activate His Covenants with unfaithful people. Faith and faithfulness are like two sides of the same coin.

If You Have Life, You Have Hope

Broadcast 4005
Click here for the audio version:

Psalm 139:14 (KJV) reads, "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."

Job was known as a righteous man in his days. It was God who called the attention of Satan to this upright man, saying, “Have you considered my servant Job?” Satan’s response was revealing, “Does Job fear God for nothing? Haven't you made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.” God granted Satan’s request, and he wreaked terrible damages on Job, some of which were irreparable.

After a while, God again drew Satan’s attention to Job’s uprightness. Of note was Satan’s response, “Skin for skin, yes, all that a man has will he give for his life. But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.” God again granted his request but with restraint, “save his life.” Job’s life was his most precious commodity, and God would not allow Satan access to it. Job passed the test; he refused to deny God, and all that he lost were eventually restored.

If everything around a person were to be placed on a scale of preference, their life would be the topmost. God values our lives so much that He will not allow Satan to touch it, even when He allows him to tempt and try us. If God had allowed Satan, he would have killed you. You are alive because God restrained him.

Go into today thanking the Lord for being alive despite all that you may have lost. Because you are alive, you can be restored.

God Keeps His Covenants

Broadcast 4004
Click here for the audio version:
Numbers 23:19 (NET) reads, "God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a human being, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it happen?"
The first time we see the word Covenant in the Bible was in Genesis 6:18 where God instructed Noah to embark on the project of building a gigantic vessel or ark for the preservation of his family and the animals. That was a project that altered the trajectory of Noah's life. It took Noah over 100 years to build that ark. Now, you need to realize that Noah was doing this against all odds. He was building an ark to preserve his family from a flood. A flood was something that had never happened on Earth before; in fact, it had never rained on Earth before this time. Building the ark was a sacrifice and a pure act of faith and obedience.

A covenant is an agreement or contract between two parties. Both parties have their defined roles, and integrity demands that when one party fulfills his role, the other party must fulfill their corresponding role as prescribed by the contract. A covenant is as useful as the integrity of those entering it.

When God enters a covenant with people, it means they have their part to play, and He has His. If God says He will do something, you can be sure He will because He keeps His word. As long as Noah remained in faith and obeyed God [by building the ark, etc.], God was committed to preserving him, his family, and the animals with him.

There are a number of Covenants mentioned in scripture. For example, the old Covenant demanded that the people of Israel lived under the law, and God would consequently be their God and father, protect and provide for them.

Go into today remembering that God is a covenant-keeping God because He is faithful and true – a Person of integrity.
