1 Corinthians 4:20 (NET) For the kingdom of God is demonstrated not in idle talk but with power.

One of the most remarkable things about true faith in the Lord Jesus is the power it produces. I have seen drug addicts delivered from their addiction because of the power of the cross. I have seen very vile sinners transformed into holy saints because of the power of the cross. People who everyone (including their family members) gave up on have become useful members of their families and societies because of the power of the cross.

But this power is only released when people receive the kingdom of God and not merely a gospel that excludes the kingdom life.

When people receive a gospel that excludes repentance and submission to the authority of Christ, what they received is not the gospel of the kingdom of God but merely exciting idle talk, and the power of God does not accompany that kind of gospel. But when the gospel of the kingdom is preached, the power of Christ is deployed to bring people out of the domain of darkness into the kingdom of Christ.

Certain arrogant teachers arose in the Corinthian church (see 1 Cor 4:19), and these teachers preached a gospel that excluded the kingdom of God. They were partly responsible for the sorry state of the Corinthian church when Paul penned 1 Corinthians. He had to admonish the church about the conduct of those who inherit the kingdom of God (see 1 Cor 6:9-10).

Go into today remembering that the gospel of the kingdom of God is one that establishes righteousness in the life of the believer, peace with God and with his neighbors, and is one that celebrates the Holy Ghost (see Rom 14:17).

Colossians 3:1-3 (KJV) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

When Jamie realized that he was only boasting without power, it was almost too late. He had boasted before a certain notorious witch in his neighborhood that her dark powers could not hurt him because his life was hidden in Christ. But he was not living under the authority of Christ but was living as though Christ existed to please him. He was so afflicted by the power of that witch that he needed to call some of his brethren to pray for him because life was leaving him. After they prayed for him, he realized that he needed to humble himself and be discipled by them. One of the first things he learned from them was that he needed to live the crucified life. He needed to come to terms with the fact that His life no longer existed to please him but to please God alone.

From the last part of today's scripture, we can see that it is when we are dead that our lives are hidden with Christ in God. When we die to the old life of pleasing ourselves, we would awaken to the new life that is hidden with Christ in God. The life that is hidden with Christ in God is not the self-pleasing life but the new life that is allowed to spring forth because the old life has been crucified and buried (see Romans 6:1-4).

Go into today remembering that our guarantee for ultimate security is living the crucified life that allows the life and power of Christ to manifest.

Titus 2:11-13 (NET) For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people. It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

After Byrum believed in the Lord Jesus, he was baptized in the Holy Ghost, and as a result, was empowered by the Spirit to overcome his addictions and live a godly life. This happened because he submitted to the instructions of righteousness given to him by his pastor. He had to change his apartment because his neighbor was his drug dealer. He had to leave his old friends and totally disconnect from his old way of living. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and was taught to stay filled. In this way, his body was empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit(Romans 8:11) and he could cope with the withdrawal from the drugs. He spent a lot of time praying and singing in the Spirit because he needed to stay filled with the spirit. The infilling of the Holy Spirit affects even our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11).

One of the things the grace of God would teach us is that "bad company corrupts...(see 1 Corinthians 15:33). Those who are taught by grace become very particular about the company they keep. They guard their hearts with all diligence by guarding the information they feed into it.

We saw yesterday that the grace of God trains us or teaches us how to reject ungodly ways and fleshly lusts. There are very practical things we must be willing to do in keeping with the teaching of grace. We must be willing to forsake our worldly ways and deny the flesh.

Go into today remembering that as a student of grace, you have to be willing to obey the demands of God's kingdom for your life. This is the only way to allow the divine life to excel over the old life.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please lead me to your green pastures and help me be fed and led by your living word. Help me to live a godly and fruitful life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

1 Corinthians 4:18-19 (KJV) Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.
But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.

Pastor Jide: stop listening to those pastors, they don’t understand the gospel. They only minister condemnation.

Segun: But Pastor, these pastors are the ones who brought the gospel to us with great power from God and caused our entire communities to turn from idols to Christ Jesus. How come you keep saying these same people do not understand the gospel?

Segun observed that pastor Jide had no real power in his ministry to make disciples, but he claimed everyone else was wrong and he was right.

When Apostle Paul left the Corinthians and moved on to the next mission field, some other apostles like Apollos graciously went to Corinth to help water what Paul had already planted. But there were also other teachers who arose, and these teachers felt they had an understanding of the gospel contrary to what was preached by Paul, Apollos, and the other apostles of the Lord.

One thing characterized these teachers; they were full of words but no power, and they were puffed up but had no real spiritual authority.

Today, such teachers have arisen in the church. They criticize everyone who does not subscribe to their warped version of the gospel. They are arrogant and have little regard for scriptures (except those that appear to support their doctrines). These teachers are the worst thing that can happen to any true believer who is not yet spiritually mature.

Go into today asking the Lord to deliver the church in your nation from false teachers. Ask the Lord to deliver you from the influence of all such teachers.

Jeremiah 32:17 (KJV) Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee
When Jane experienced her supernatural healing from congenital heart disease, it boosted her faith and she knew that God could do all things. But she often wondered why God didn't do so much even though He wanted to. She came to realize that many times, the missing link is faith. It is by faith that God's eternal power is transmitted into time. When it was time to create the heavens and the earth, the Lord God(pre-incarnate Christ) was the first to come into time (Colossians 1:15, John 1:1), and through faith, transmitted God's eternal power into time.

The benefit of abiding in Christ and living the crucified life is that you would now live by the faith of Christ the son of God. Galatians 2:20 says: "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me"

Since you have forsaken your own old life and Christ is now your life, you will now live by His faith and thus enter into the realm of God's unlimited power.

Go into today remembering that the link to God's unlimited power is the faith of God. We were created in God's image so we would walk in this faith. The fall disconnected us from God’s divine nature and obscured us from this faith and power. The more you allow the word of God to transform you to the nature of Christ who is the express image of God (Colossians 1:15), you will walk in His faith and excel in His unlimited power.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I know that with you nothing shall be impossible. Please help walk me abide in you and walk in your faith always.

2 Timothy 2:15(NIV) Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

George was the best graduating student in his set, breaking a twenty-five-year record and becoming the best graduating student ever. When he was asked the secret of his success, he gave a simple response, hard work! Because of this landslide achievement, he was immediately retained in the institution, gained international recognition, and had several other offers. Although George hailed from a simple home, the spotlight came on him and he became a person of reckoning amongst those considered great in his discipline. For George, the secret was simply hard work.

Today's text was Apostle Paul's admonition to Timothy, asking him to do his best to present himself approved to God as a worker who has no need to be ashamed but rightly handles the word of truth.

According to this verse, it is in your power to determine whether you will be a worker approved by God or not. It is also evident that hard work; putting in your utmost is required. You will have to stretch yourself by doing more than the ordinary if you desire to be a worker approved by God.

Are you currently putting in your best? if God were to score you today, will he approve of your effort? Go into today pondering on these questions.

Prayer: ask the Lord for grace to serve him acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

Colossians 3:2-4 (NET) Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth, for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ (who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him.

After Laura had her four children, she was almost inundated by the responsibilities of being a mother and a wife. Her life now practically revolved around her family, especially her children. She left her job, putting her career and ambitions on hold just to take care of the children and homeschool them. Those children were practically her life for the first few years of their lives.

Many of us had dreams and ambitions that we believed would land us in a place of glory and praise before men in this world. It is truly difficult for a person with plausible ambitions to receive the truth that he should die to his own ambitions and focus on the vision the Lord has for him. Many times, they may not be mutually exclusive, but there are times that they are. When you receive Christ as Lord and Savior, He practically becomes your life. You now live to please Him and not yourself. You are dead to your old life and now live to please Him alone (see Galatians 2:20).

We see in today's Bible verse that when Christ (who is our life) appears, then we too will be revealed in glory with Him. For now, we have died to all our ambitions for earthly glory and are focused on fulfilling the purpose of Christ which is far better. Being popular or rich in this present world is not our priority (even though some of us will be entrusted with these things as part of the tools needed to execute our peculiar assessments), but serving God and fulfilling His plan is. When the Lord returns to take over the governments of this world and rule for a thousand years, those of us who lived for him would reign with him. The least among us would be wealthier and greater than the wealthiest people this present world system has produced. We would literally inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5).

Go into today remembering that if Christ is your life now, you will rule and reign with Him in his eternal kingdom. Leaving your own life and living for Christ is the only way to live in the kingdom(2 Tim 2:12, Rom 8:17, 1 Pet 4:13, Rev 5:10).

Colossians 3:1-4 (KJV) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

After Henry understood what it meant to set his affection on things above, he no longer lived according to his long nurtured earthly ambition that was ultimately supposed to garner for him the praise of men. He realized that he was dead and his new life is hidden in Christ. His old life was gone and he was no longer living to please himself but only to please the Lord.

This was the reason why the power of God could now flow through him freely.

Those who abide in Christ are dead to their old lives [of pleasing themselves] and now only live to please the Lord. They no longer plot their lives according to their ambitions nor do they lean on their own understanding(Proverbs 3:5). They now live according to the vision and will of the Lord.

As a believer, you can be assured that God's plans for you are better than your plans for you. God's vision for you is with a view of eternity, but your best plans for you are factored into time and limited by it. Two thousand years from now, you will still exist, but your own ambitions have no plan for your life then. But if you follow the vision of God for you, your eternal destiny is secured in greatness and glory.

Go into today remembering that your old life and all its baggage of ambitions, weaknesses, and pride, is dead. The life that you now live is the life of Christ. You now live in submission to God's vision, no more according to your own ambitions.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

When Henry accepted the Lord Jesus, he could not understand what it meant when scripture said "set your affection on things above".

He had always lived his life to "meet up with the Joneses" and earn the admiration of men. Most of his decisions in life were calculated to prove a point and gain the praise of men, especially his former classmates. But as he understood the message of today's Bible passage, he started living his life to gain the praise of heaven rather than the praise of men. He realized that there are things that when he did, heaven rejoiced and his esteem in heaven increased. Our Lord Jesus says there is great rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents (see Luke 15:7). Some believers are always causing rejoicing in heaven because they are soul winners. They are highly esteemed in heaven, and this shows in their level of spiritual authority.

Setting your affection on things above means living for the praise of heaven, but setting your affection on the things on earth means living for the praise of [sinful] men. What are you truly living for? Are you living for the praise of men or the commendation of heaven?

As you go into today, remember that life should be about pleasing God. If you're focused on getting God's commendation, you cannot be focused on getting men's commendation at the same time. As you focus on pleasing God, your light will so shine before men that they will see your good works and glorify your father in heaven (see Matthew 5:16).

Prayer: Lord, help me always remember that life should be about pleasing you. Help me please you in all things and be fruitful in every good work

Mark 16:16 (NET) The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned.

I remember preaching to a young man. While preaching, the power of God came so mightily that through word of knowledge I knew many secret things about him. I told him some of them and that was a sign that led to him confessing the Lord Jesus. I wanted so much to get him baptized and disciple him, but I was led against that. I knew he was not my disciple. As events will unfold in the future, it became clear to me that someone else would be the one to disciple him.

The Lord can give you personal instructions that may look outside the norm, but they still will not contradict His will as revealed in scripture. If the Lord restrains you from doing something you think is needful, it is because he has arranged for someone else to do it.

I have seen some ministers leave disciples unbaptized, and many quote Apostle Paul who said the Lord did not send him to baptize but only to preach. They forget that the people Paul was writing to were already baptized by the time he wrote to them. To baptize disciples is a commandment of the Lord and everyone who believes should be baptized. (See Matt 28:19).

Apostle Paul was not instructed to baptize the Corinthians because the Lord wanted other ministers to baptize and disciple them. The wisdom of the Lord in instructing Paul to only preach was revealed when Paul had to use that as one of his greatest points to prove to the Corinthians that he was not called to disciple them, but Apollos was. He said 'I planted, Apollos watered… '(1 Cor 3:6).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you rightly discern His will.

1 Thessalonians 5:24 (KJV) Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
When Yetunde saw God’s plan for her and how unworthy she was to fulfill it, she was disheartened and did not truly believe that she would fulfill God’s vision for her.
She received strength and power for destiny when she understood today’s Bible text.

The devil is happy when God’s children feel disheartened and incapable of fulfilling God’s will that God reveals to them. God wants us to grow in faith and begin to walk in the reality of what He has given. He wants us to know that He is still in charge, and He controls all things according to His will. Let’s not hinder Him by our unbelief and doubts.

It’s time to stop taking sides with the devil and begin to take sides with God concerning your destiny. When you continue to believe that "I cannot do it", you are not taking sides with God concerning your destiny. The devil says "you cannot do it", but the Lord says "you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you". Whose report will you believe?

Go into today remembering that that vision was not your idea, it was God’s idea, and God will do it. All you need to do is ‘trust and obey’.

Prayer Confession: Faithful is the Lord who has promised, He will surely bring it to pass. So I will trust in Him, and depend on Him. Amen.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Tara received a message on WhatsApp that ended with a threat. It said if she failed to share the message with six of her contacts within six hours of reading it, something bad would happen to her within days. But if she shared the message, something good was going to happen to her. The message went on to tell stories of how good things have happened to people who shared it, and how horrible things happened to people who didn't.

Interestingly enough, she read the message in the night after her internet data ran out, and could not recharge that night. Tara's next day was disorganized because she was afraid of the threat in the message since she could not share it.

Anyone claiming to be sharing the word of God, but threatening people to share it is not doing so by the spirit of God but by witchcraft. That is the way witchcraft operates, it uses fear, intimidation, and manipulation, to make people do things they normally wouldn’t want to do. Do not open the door of fear in your life by acting in accordance with the instructions inspired by the spirit of witcraft.

People do not receive blessings from God because they clicked 'like' on a Facebook post or shared a message. People receive benefits from God because of their faith in God and obedience to His word (see Psalm 1).

It is interesting how some Christians can read messages created by a con artist and believe every word of it, but fail to believe every word of God that has spoken good concerning them.

Go into today remembering that God's Word is the most powerful word in the universe and it says good concerning you. Read it, believe it, and share it in love.

John 10:27-28 (NASB) My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.

Seyi was disturbed that as a believer he didn’t really know the voice of the Lord. This was a big problem because he understood that this was what distinguished the sheep from the goats.

He understood that there were goats and there were sheep, and everyone claimed to be a follower of the Lord, but those who are led (whose lives are controlled) by the voice of the Lord are they who are His true sheep (see Rom 8:14). He understood that it is those who follow the leading of the Lord that will never fall "For He leads [them] in the path of righteousness for His name's sake". But how could he be so led without the ability to know or hear the voice of the Lord?

He started praying and fasting about this. One morning, he received enlightenment when he picked up his Bible to read. He looked at it again and it occurred to Him that these are the words of the Lord. Every word in it was inspired by the Spirit of Christ. Reading and understanding it was the easiest way to hear the voice of the Lord and follow it.

The Lord leads us by His instructions in the Bible. As a matter of fact, there is no leading from Him you can receive in your spirit that will contradict His will as expressed in the Bible.

Go into today remembering that Christians who want to be led by the Lord go for His word. They crave His word like newborn babies crave milk (see 1 Pet 2:2). Read the Bible and get materials to help you better understand the word (Get books, download sermons, attend meetings, etc). When you have demonstrated faithfulness in hearing and obeying the revealed word through scripture, you will be ready for the inspired word that comes to give specific direction and guidance in peculiar situations.

Prayer: Thank the Lord for the Bible.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NET) But he said to me, “My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me.
Gbenga observed that some of the dry sermons he had preached were the ones he prepared for the most. While some of the most powerful sermons he preached were the ones he didn't have the opportunity to prepare for, so he depended on the Lord totally. As he grew, he realized that the reason his most prepared sermons lacked great grace was that his elaborate preparation made him trust in his methods rather than depend on the grace of God. He now learned to trust totally in the Lord, despite his elaborate preparations.

Apostle Paul understood a mystery that we need to understand if we must walk in the power of God's grace. Being vulnerable before the Lord is the key to walking in his strength.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the Adamic nature that makes us naturally repel the grace of God because of pride; the feeling that we are self-sufficient. But the way to receive God's grace is to come to the end of yourself and depend totally on Him.

God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. Adamic man is fundamentally proud and does not naturally walk in the grace of God. Christlike man is fundamentally humble and is full of grace. Many times, in order for us to walk in certain measures of God's grace, He allows us to experience weakness that humbles us so that we can learn not to depend on our own ability but on his grace in those areas.

Acknowledging our weakness is the key to walking in the strength of God's grace. Apostle Paul understood this mystery so much that he never shied away from speaking about his weaknesses. This is the same principle that kicks in when we confess our sins and thus acknowledge our weakness. The grace of God is released, and our victory is sure.

Go into today remembering that God's grace flows when we come to the end of ourselves and depend totally on Him.

Matthew 7:12 (NET) In everything, treat others as you would want them to treat you, for this fulfills the law and the prophets.

Sandra did not know why her prayers in certain areas were not being answered. She was getting tired and weary of praying those prayers. She had observed through scriptures that those prayers were in accordance with the will of God, but she knew she wasn't getting the appropriate response from heaven.

As she inquired of the Lord to understand what was going on, the Lord revealed to her through prophesy that her prayers were hindered because she was walking in iniquity.

She kept on wondering what iniquity she was walking in until the Lord revealed to her that she was not kind to her mother-in-law who was living with her. "If you were living with your son and his wife is treating you the way you're treating this woman, would that be acceptable to you?" Sandra cried the day the Holy Spirit asked her this question. She repented promptly and started treating her mother inlaw the way she would want to be honored and treated if in her position. For the next couple of weeks, Sandra observed that her prayer was answered automatically. She was completely healed.

The word of the Lord in today's Bible verse says "in everything, treat others as you would want them to treat you". The Lord didn't say in some things or in most things, He says in everything. Many believers have failed woefully in this, yet they wonder why they're not walking in the power and glory of the resurrected Christ. I have come to realize that if a believer obeys this command the Lord has given us, he would have to become a gentle and humble person by default. To be gentle means to be kind and tender. A harsh person is not gentle.

A person who is not truthful to himself cannot obey this commandment. Remember, those who worship God must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Go into today remembering that the more you become like Christ, the more your life will be able to express His power and glory.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NET) So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away-look, what is new has come!

After Seyi had believed for two years, he looked back at his past life to see if there was any difference. He could not find much difference. He was still bound to iniquity and was still the same old Seyi. This made him doubt if he was really born again. "How can I be born again and still be doing these things"  he would say to himself time and time again.

He believed that what he needed was deliverance and he went from Pastor to Pastor seeking it. Each pastor he visited prayed for him and told him he had been delivered, but he still returned to his old sins and habits. He really desired to serve God and live Holy before Him, but he found that his desire was not strong enough to make him leave his old life.

One day, he saw a post on Facebook that made him realize that he was already a new creation because of his faith in Christ. Wearers he was trying to be a new creation, he did not know that he was made a new creation by God, not by himself. When he had this revelation, his life changed. Immediately, he realized that he needed to change his friends because he was now a new creature. He realized he now had the power to say 'NO' to sin because he was now a new creature. He would say to himself 'would a new creature do this?' and would find the strength to resist temptations.

Go into today knowing that understanding who you are is very important. An eagle that believes it is a chicken will never fly high.

Philippians 4:19 (KJV) But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

There was a certain woman who had a lot of money but was barren. Her husband no longer loved her and would have nothing to do with her. For many years, she didn't even know if she was still baren after undergoing certain medical procedures because her husband wouldn't come near her. She was a believer in the Lord Jesus and was known to be a person of integrity.

One day, she observed that a certain evangelist in her church was in need of financial help, so she decided to give him offerings both for his personal family needs and for the work of the ministry. She was not expecting anything in return for her offering but was just trying to meet the need of a minister and honor the anointing upon him. This evangelist was so provoked by her generosity that he said: "my God, who I've been serving all these years, will meet you at that point of your need".

Two weeks later, her husband who wanted nothing to do with her repented and left his girlfriend who had used witchcraft to keep him under her control. In that same month, she conceived. She gave birth to twins nine months later at the age of 56.

The popular Bible verse of today's meditation was a prayer Apostle Paul made for the Philippians after he received their generous offering through Epaphroditus (see Philippians 4:18). Notice that in this prayer, Apostle Paul refers to God (who is also the God of the Phillipians) as "my God". Knowing fully well that his God was their God, why would apostle Paul refer to God as 'my God' when praying this prayer for the Philippians? It is because of a spiritual principle we shall try to examine.

God's power is at work in our lives at different levels in accordance with the measure of grace that we have received(see Romans 12:6). Grace is multiplied in our lives through the knowledge of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ(2 Peter 1:2). The progressive knowledge of God takes the process of a faithful walk with the Lord, and this knowledge multiplies grace. Grace is God's power localized in the life of a believer, and it is comminuted with through the believer's faith.

God is unlimited, but his manifestation in a person's life is regulated by their measure of grace and faith.
When a servant of God says "my God shall..." when praying for believers, he is calling upon a dimension of God that is known to him but may not yet be known to them. This dimension would supply a measure of grace(that they themselves have not yet grown into) to meet their needs.

Go into today remembering that when God's people are generous to His servants who have received a measure of grace to serve Him in certain capacities, it can provoke special manifestations of the blessing in their lives.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NET) Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”

Olamide used to struggle to live a Holy life. He knew he needed to be holy but he just couldn't keep up with the demands of holiness. Lust and pride were still very big distractions in his life.

But after he decided to learn from the Lord and become more humble and gentle, he entered into the "sabbath rest" of the Lord. He found that because of a fundamental change in nature, he no longer struggled to be holy. He no longer struggled to walk in the divine nature, and sin was now alien to his soul. Hebrews 4:9-11 talks about entering the rest of God. This is the safeguard for falling into disobedience (see Hebrews 4:11). The Lord reveals in today's Bible verses the key to entering this rest. It is following His example of humility and gentleness.

As we strive to walk in the nature of Christ and put away childish things, let's remember that the two most dominant attributes of Christ's nature are humility and gentleness. The two most dominant attributes of the Adamic sinful nature are pride and self-centeredness. Remember, the key to entering your rest is learning of Christ and following His example of meekness and gentleness.

Go into today remembering that when these roots of iniquity(pride and self-centeredness) have been dealt with in our hearts, we would no longer struggle to be holy. We would enter our rest and cease from our own works. As a result of this, the grace(power) of God will flow freely in our lives.

Matthew 18:1-4 (NET) At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a child, had him stand among them, and said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn around and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven! Whoever then humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Olamide observed that as he became more like Christ in character, he became more spiritually powerful and could wield greater spiritual authority. It wasn't always like that. There was a time that he needed to pray and fast in order to cast out a small demon or walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, but as he grew spiritually, he observed that many times, before he fully voiced his requests, demands or desires, heaven would respond. Olamide observed that one of the significant markers of his spiritual maturity was that he became more humble and gentle– he became more like Christ in nature(see Matthew 11:29).

This wasn't always the case with Olamide. He could still remember when he first started serving the Lord, and how proud he used to be. He couldn't bear any criticism and was having "beef" with most of his brethren in the fellowship. But as he grew spiritually, he became more like a child in humility and was now more considerate of people. It appeared as though he became smaller in his own eyes, but in reality, he became greater in the kingdom that truly matters(see Matthew 18:4).

The church's objective is to train believers and turn them into disciples, servants, and friends of Christ. Sanctification is the process by which this happens. It is the process by which we become saints. Christ is the original prototype of sainthood. Two things stand out in the character and spirit of Christ, they are humility and gentleness, and they are like two sides of the same coin. A truly loving person will be humble and gentle to the one he loves. As Christ is formed in us, the love of God possesses us more and more, and we become more humble, less complicated, and truly gentle (kind, tender, and considerate).

Go into today remembering that your destiny in life(eternity) is that you would be great in the kingdom of God, and the path to this greatness is becoming more humble and gentle. As you become more like Christ, you will become more humble and gentle

Prayer: Ask the Lord to deliver you from every trace of the old Adamic nature and help you walk in your divine nature.

Romans 8:18-19 (KJV) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
Have you ever seen a parked car grow newer with time?
In this old creation, things grow older, not newer. Things naturally gravitate towards disorder not order. That is a result of the curse of corruption. But so great is the glory that would be revealed in us (who believe) that it would lead to the liberation of all creation from the curse of corruption.
The curse of corruption is what makes things grow old and worn. But when our glory is revealed in the resurrection, all of creation will be set free from the curse of corruption (see Romans 8:21).

Ignorance concerning who we are and what we are in Christ is the reason some believers are profane like Esau; trading their priceless eternal inheritance[of rewards] for temporary trappings of this world.

Go into today remembering that all creation awaits the manifestation of your glory. Even now, by the Spirit, we get to walk in the foretaste of this reality. We are God's light in this dark world (see Isaiah 60:1-2, Matthew 5:16).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to multiply within you the grace to shine your light in this dark world and live in the hope of His calling.

1 Corinthians 4:5 (NET) So then, do not judge anything before the time. Wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the motives of hearts. Then each will receive recognition from God.

Chinonye received the Lord Jesus when she was a teenager and had grown to know the Lord. Because of this, she responded differently to situations she came across in life. Her colleagues in the office wondered why she was so calm and collected and so easily willing to forgive wicked offenders and overlook the most grievous trespasses against her. She tried to explain to them that even though people may escape human judgment on this earth, no one was going to escape God's judgment on the Day of Judgment. Because of this understanding, she didn't try to revenge because she knew God was going to judge. Eternal judgment didn't look like a time too long to wait for her because she knew she had eternal life and now had the proper perspective of time.

We can see from scripture that there are times that the spirit of judgment could come upon believers, as willed by the Lord, and they would proclaim judgment against the Lord's enemies (see Acts 13:11). But it has to be a result of the Lord’s leading, not a result of the fleshly desire to get vengeance.

Sometimes, because they wanted their vengeance instantly, believers have used their spiritual power to destroy people that would have later been a blessing to them and to the world. There probably would be no 'Apostle Paul' if Stephen had used his authority to pray down judgment on those responsible for his execution (see Acts 7:58-60).

Go into today meditating on this:
Romans 12:19 (NIV): Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, help me to live with eternity in view and live before you accurately. Amen.

Phillipians 4.6 (ESV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

After God had given the promise of an heir to Abram, Sarai his wife in anxiety counseled him to have Hagar her maid for a wife (Genesis 16). Sarai worried about her obvious state of barrenness, her age, and her husband’s age. Her worries were legitimate; she was obviously barren, her husband was already 85 years old and she had gone past the age of bearing herself; she was 75 years old. Abram consented to his wife’s counsel and Ismael, a wild man whose hand will be against every man and upon whom every man’s hand shall be against was the result (Genesis 16:12).

Like Sarai, do you have legitimate reasons to worry? Obviously, yes! Why then should God expect you not to worry when He knows that you have obvious reasons to worry? He expects you to trust Him.

A father will be proud when his child in the midst of other children shows that he is dependable. You also will make God proud when even in the face of seemingly impossible situations, you choose to depend on Him by refusing to be anxious or worried.

Know that whenever you worry as a child of God, you are actually doubting God and if that worry is not quickly arrested, your actions will end up confessing that God is incapable of helping you. Note also that decisions made out of anxiety and fear will never glorify God, they will most likely produce an ‘Ismael'.

How then should one handle anxiety or worry? Apostle Peter says it is by casting all your cares upon the Lord; for he careth for you (1 Peter 5:7).

Note the use of the word ‘casting’. it shows a present and continuous duty. You will have to continually cast your cares upon the Lord, else, you will be anxious. We do this in the place of prayer. Every time anxiety seems to rise, pray about the matter until the peace of God replaces the anxiety in your heart (see Philippians 4:6-7).

Go into today knowing that no anxiety or worry is from God, and getting anxious or worried is an indication that there is a care that you’re yet to cast upon the Lord.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to always cast my cares upon you and make you proud by living free of all anxieties. Amen!

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (KJV), “Quench not the Spirit".

Oh! I understand now! Exclaimed Cole after he heard a preacher preach on today's topic.

Cole struggled with a sinful habit. He knew the habit was evil and wanted to quit, but for many years, freedom seemed impossible and this was because he had been quenching (neglecting) the Spirit. He'd had experiences of waking up from his sleep with songs, scriptural verses, and instructions impressed upon his spirit. This happened more whenever he engaged in serious spiritual activities like praying, fasting, studying the word of God, etc, but he never paid attention to them. It was after he listened to the said message that he began to pay attention to the impressions of God on his spirit, and suddenly, he got his freedom. Whenever he woke up with a song, for instance, he sang it throughout the day and even for weeks, then he searched for scriptures that were projected in the song and prayed with them.

Just like it happened with Cole, the only way to redeem your day and lead a victorious life is by daily obeying the instruction, “quench not the Spirit".

Because God knows all things, he prepares us for what the day holds(good or bad) by giving us a dream, impressing a song or a verse of the scripture upon our hearts, and by certain other feelings or sensations like uneasiness, loss of peace, discomfort, etc. But if we neglect these promptings, we can become victims of the day's evil.

Go into today knowing that if you will always yield to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, you will always be victorious.

Romans 8:18 (KJV) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

If you think about who God is and all His has, it is simply too much for our 1.5kg brain to fully comprehend. Yet, we will inherit all that belongs to God as heirs of God through Christ Jesus (Romans 8:7, Revelation 21:7).

What we know is that we shall be as He is because we shall see Him face to face(1 John 3:2). We shall rule and reign with Him and even judge the angels(see 1 Corinthians 6:3). We shall inherit all things (Revelation 21:7).

Even though we know that it is those who live for Christ and [are willing to] suffer for Him that would be counted worthy to reign with Him in glory, it is foolishness to think that our suffering for Him is able to earn us our eternal glory. The sufferings of this present time cannot be compared to the glory. If we suffered for Christ to the point of death in one billion lifetimes, it still wouldn't be sufficient to earn the glory that we would receive.

God is not interested in our suffering, He is interested in our faithfulness. It is just that being faithful to Him would require denial of the flesh and may incur persecution from those still controlled by the Prince of this present world who is an enemy of Christ. As you are reading this Devotional today, many of our brethren in Pakistan, parts of India, and the Middle East are experiencing great persecution because of their faith in Christ. Many in the middle east are even denied passports so they cannot get visas to flee their countries where they are being persecuted for their faith. Even in certain parts of northern Nigeria today, believers who are qualified for promotion in public service are denied a promotion because they are believers. Qualified students are denied admission into government-owned subsidized tertiary institutions because they have Christian names, and many have been killed because of their Christian faith. We can go on and on, but the point is this: those who would not deny the faith because of worldly pressures are proving that they are faithful in the little, and much more would be given to them (Luke 16:10-12). They would rule and reign with the Lord in the eternal kingdom that is coming to sweep away every other kingdom on this earth.

Go into today asking the Lord for the grace to be faithful to Him in the face of pressure.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help to be faithful to you until the end. Please help me to not miss my eternal reward but reign with you in glory on that day. Amen.

Acts 1:8 (KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Ray could not keep silent, he spoke to all his friends and everyone around him about his new life in Christ. He used to be addicted to drugs, gambling, and sexual immorality. His family had given up on him after sending him several times to rehab. His weaknesses and addictions were now overpowered by this new power he encountered. Ray had received Jesus into his life after attending a crusade. He went on to be baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit. It is the power of the Holy Spirit that delivered him and moved him to speak to others about Jesus.

But after some time, Ray observed that his zeal had started to wane. This got him really bordered. Wanting to know why this was happening, he chose to pray for hours in tongues consistently for many days. After continuing in this discipline for several days, he observed that his zeal was restored. He also observed that he could now manifest some spiritual gifts.

After this experience, Ray understood that it takes power to live the life of a witness unto Christ. He also now knew that one way to access this power of the Holy Ghost is by giving one’s self to lengthy and consistent prayer in the spirit(in tongues).

Many believers no longer have exciting personal moments with the Lord. Their most exciting moment was at the point of receiving Christ or when they got baptized in the Holy Ghost. So after many years pass, they find that they have not been able to be effective witnesses; they now only derive their sense of fulfillment from activities. They are seen as active in Church but their lives are a contradiction of what they profess when you get closer to them. Because of this, their wives/children, friends, and associates are rebellious and indifferent toward the Lord. If this describes you, what you need is the power of the Holy Ghost. It is by His strength that you are empowered to live a consecrated and powerful life (Philippians 2:13). If you have never been baptized in the Holy Ghost, ask for it. And if you have been baptized, ask God to fill you again (Acts 4:31).

Go into today remembering that it takes power to be an effective witness unto Christ. The way to appropriate this power is by praying consistently in the spirit (tongues) (Jude 1:20).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to quicken you to pray as you ought to pray.

1 Corinthians 4:9 (NET) For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to die, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to people.

When Collins started becoming interested in serving the Lord, naturally, he wanted to be at the peak of this service. After being in church for a while, he observed that many considered the office of the apostle to be the highest in the body of Christ. Because of this, he wanted also to be an apostle. Because he was really committed and dedicated to the work in his local church, he was soon ordained as a minister. But still, he wanted to be called an apostle.

One morning, he was studying the word of God when he came across today’s Bible verse. He read it again and again, and this really scared him. From that moment, he started changing his mind concerning his dream to someday become an apostle.

Whether a person is an apostle, a prophet, an evangelist, or a pastor and teacher, is not really his decision to make. These things are determined by God from before the person is born (see Gal 1:15, Jer 1:5). But whether a person ends up walking in God’s call for his life is dependent on how he responds to God during the days of his sojourning here on earth. Many indeed are called, but few are chosen. The difference between the chosen and the rest is faithfulness (Rev 17:14). God doesn’t entrust much to the unfaithful (see Luke 16:10).

I do not believe that everyone who has the call to be an apostle must necessarily die for the faith (Apostle John didn’t die the death of a martyr), but I believe that everyone who must effectively walk in his call must have the mindset of an apostle. One that is willing to give up his life (if need be) for the sake of the gospel (see Luke 14:26, Rev 12:11).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you fulfill His call for your Life. This is the most important thing in life.

Luke 16:16 [NET] “The law and the prophets were in force until John; since then, the good news of the kingdom of God has been proclaimed, and everyone is urged to enter it.

The primary reason the religious leaders and Pharisees crucified Jesus was that He said he was the Son of God. They understood that this claim meant He was saying He was God and Lord (see John 5:18). They killed him because they believed He blasphemed and was deserving of death. But as proof that Jesus didn’t tell a lie, God raised him up on the third day.

Therefore the resurrection of Jesus was proof that He was indeed the Son of God, and this became the major linchpin of the gospel message (see Rom 10:9). But note that the gospel message was preached by Jesus and His disciples before Jesus died and resurrected (see Matthew 4:23; 9:35; Luke 4:43; Luke 8:1). Remember that Jesus sent the twelve and the seventy to preach the gospel at different times, and He Himself went around preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom.

Some have argued that the good news of the kingdom only arrived after Jesus was resurrected, but today's Bible verse shows that they are wrong.

Why is it important to know this? Because Christians must understand that the teachings of Christ are the foundation and pillar of Christian doctrine. They are not to be discarded as Old Testament texts not meant for Christians.

When Jesus commissioned His apostles to go into the world and make disciples of nations, he instructed them to teach the new disciples to obey everything He had commanded them (see Mat 28:20).

Go into today knowing that if what the Lord taught does not appear to align with your understanding of the gospel message, your understanding is wrong.
