Isaiah 54:17 (KJV) No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

Sola liked to quote Isaiah 54:17 because he understood too well what demonic weapons were and what they could do. His mother became mysteriously sick and almost died, and it was later revealed that his stepmother was the one who sent a demonic arrow against her. These kinds of arrows made people mysteriously ill and die. Some of such arrows could make a student become so forgetful that he would practically be incapable of doing well academically, no matter how much he studies. Sadly, Sola was still a victim of curses(tongues or utterances made against him in judgment) and many demonic arrows(weapons), even though he liked to pray and quote promises like Isaiah 54:17.

Perturbed and worried, he asked his campus pastor why he was so afflicted even though he prayed and quoted God's promises. It was later discovered that the promises Sola loved to quote did not apply to him because he did not meet the conditions of the promises as outlined in scripture.

Many of God's promises in Scripture are based on conditions, and if you meet them, you can be sure God will fulfill them because He cannot lie. There is a general condition for all of God's promises in scripture, and there are specific conditions for specific promises found in scripture. 2 Corinthians 1:20 reveals the general condition. It says that in Christ, all of God's promises are “yes”, and through Him, the Amen is spoken by us to God's glory. As long as you abide in Christ, all of God's promises are "yes" for you. The general condition for God's promises to apply to a person today is that they must abide in Christ. That is the "yes" requirement for God's promise to find fruition in our lives. But remember, there is also the "Amen" requirement, as revealed in 2 Corinthians 1:20.

For a promise like the one in today's Bible verse, the specific condition for that promise to be "Amen" for a believer is that they must be servants of God. The reason why Sola could not appropriate those promises was that he was not a servant of God but a user of God. There was no record of anything he ever did in service to God. All the things he did were motivated by self-centeredness.

Being a servant of God does not mean you are a pastor or church preacher. It means there must be things in your life that you can identify as things you do in service to God. It could be as "common" as cleaning the church, or as "complex" as preaching to the lost.

When you see a promise in scripture, look out for the conditions. If you meet the requirements, you can be sure that the promise will be yours through faith. Some promises only require our faith and confessions for them to be appropriated, as long as we abide in Christ.

Go into today thanking God for His great and precious promises. See 2 Peter 1:4

Psalms 1:1-2 (NET) How blessed is the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand in the pathway with sinners, or sit in the assembly of scoffers! Instead he finds pleasure in obeying the Lord’s commands; he meditates on his commands day and night.

“It is not that big a deal” said Lola for the umpteenth time that evening, but Eno would have none of it. Lola and Eno are both members of the choir group in their fellowship on campus. Earlier in that evening, Eno had gone to Lola’s room to check on her so they could both walk to rehearsals as it was their weekly day of rehearsal. However, she had met Lola deeply engrossed in the show Cupid’s Arrow Season three. She then commented that how come Lola skipped all of Season two and was now in season three observing that last week, she had met Lola last on Season One of the show. To which Lola stated that she had completed both Season One and Two since then.

Eno tried to point out to Lola that her obsession with these movies (Cupid’s Arrow, Love Triangle, Heart On Fire, etcetera) was unhealthy for her spiritual development, especially noting that these were not wholesome entertainment as they glorify the emotions and portray no godly standard with regards to sex and marriage. But Lola was adamant that these were just her means of unwinding and that it wasn’t that much of a big deal. But the Bible says otherwise.

It is instructive that when Jesus summarized the law He quoted Deuteronomy 6 verse 5 which speaks about loving the Lord with all your heart and soul and mind and might (Mark 12:30). Our text today also began by outlining what a blessed man does not do, and the first thing it mentions about what he does is about what he finds pleasure in (God’s words). Apostle Paul writing to the Colossian church also admonished them to set their affections on the things of God. Clearly, what, and even whom, you delight in matters.

In fact, Apostle James warns that we are tempted along the lines of our strong (and inordinate) desires. This is because love is a precursor to service. Jesus speaking about mammon started by stating that you cannot serve two masters at the same time, you will rather love one and hate the other (Matt 6:24). Remember, affection produces actions, therefore guard your heart with all diligence for out of it flows the issues of life.

Go into today determined to set your affections on the things of God knowing that it matters who and what you love.

Hebrews 13:20 (NET) Now may the God of peace who by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus Christ

I’ve heard many stories of miracles that happened when people demonstrated faith in the power of the blood of Jesus by crying out "the blood of Jesus". Indeed, our greatest tool for overcoming the devil is the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony (see Revelation 12:11).

Today's Bible verse reveals a mystery. God actually resurrected our Lord Jesus through the blood of the eternal covenant. We know that the greatest power ever exerted in creation was demonstrated in resurrecting Jesus and elevating Him to the throne in heaven (see Ephesians 1:19-20). Jesus's resurrection was unique because He died with an ordinary human body but was resurrected with the glorified heavenly body.

According to scripture, the Life of every living creature is in its blood (Leviticus 17:11, Genesis 9:4). When you engage the blood of Jesus, you engage the eternal God's life force.

How do we appropriate the power of the blood of Jesus?:

We do this by entering into the covenant of the blood through faith in Christ Jesus as our Lord and King. Today, Christ Jesus is our high priest in heaven, and He uses His blood to perform His priestly duties(see Hebrews 9:11-12). Scripture reveals that the way we engage the priesthood of Christ for us is through our confessions. According to Hebrews 3:1 and Hebrews 4:14, Jesus is the high priest of our Confession. You will observe from scripture that the things of the new covenant that would need the priesthood of Christ would always require our Confession. For example, In order for us to be saved, we needed to confess that Jesus is Lord (see Romans 10:9). To be forgiven of our sins and cleansed by His blood, we would need to confess our sins (see 1 John 1:9). In both cases above, the priesthood of Jesus for us was activated by our confessions.

We engage the power of Jesus's blood by confessions of the things the blood has paid for. Remember, confessions of the mouth usually follow conviction in the heart. The overflow of your heart is your mouth (Matthew 12:34).

Go into today remembering to engage the unlimited power in the blood of Jesus through your confessions.

Say these confessions:
by the blood of Jesus, my sins are forgiven. By the blood of Jesus, I am cleansed from all unrighteousness. By the blood of Jesus, I am justified. By the blood of Jesus, I am delivered out of the hand and power of Satan.

Hebrews 2:16-18 (KJV) For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Demian was so overwhelmed by his trials and temptations that he stopped attending student fellowship and was now inaccessible to his brethren. He became this way because he felt they did not understand him and would end up judging him. He was an only child who became mixed up in drug addiction quite early. He never felt loved until he met Grace who invited him to fellowship and he became really close to the brethren there. He started coming to fellowship and accepted the Lord Jesus, but certain things happened in the fellowship and carnal brethren manifested in such a way that he started feeling the whole thing(faith, fellowship) was a charade. But he had truly accepted the Lord Jesus and had established a solid relationship with Him.

One night he turned the TV to TBN and heard a preacher teaching from today's Bible verse. At that point, he realized that even though his brethren may not understand him, he had a high priest who understands him. From that point, he started talking to Jesus and making confessions from scripture. He noticed that each time he made a Confession and talked to the Lord, his soul was helped and his heart was relieved of the pressure and depression.

Demian was saved from the place of despair the devil wanted to send him into because he understood the priestly ministry of Jesus and related with Him from that standpoint.

Do you know that you have a high priest who understands you and wants to help you? Don't let the devil ever make you feel you're alone [in the spirit realm]. There are more on your side than against you. The angels of God far outnumber the principalities and powers that want you to fail.

Go into today remembering that the way you connect with the help of God is by coming to Jesus your high priest in Confession and surrender. Let him know exactly how it feels and ask Him to help you. Remember He shed His blood for you, so there's nothing he cannot do for you.

Prayer: Lord, help me never forget that you're on my side to help me and not condemn me. Please strengthen me to know your love and live an empowered life.

John 15:9-10 (NET) “Just as the Father has loved me, I have also loved you; remain in my love. If you obey my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.

Bala walked into the office at an unexpected time. He was not pleased with the things he overheard some of his colleagues saying about him. At this point, he knew that they were not his friends, and some of them were outright enemies who were envious of him. His most shocking surprise was that Henry, his supposed friend, was the most outspoken.

He got home and told his wife the horrible things he heard Henry and the others saying about him. His wife was so angry because Henry was supposed to be his friend and confidant, but this revelation revealed that he was an enemy disguised as a friend.

The next time Bala and his wife were praying together, his wife was surprised that just as before, Bala raised a prayer request for Henry and his barren wife. She refused to pray for Henry and wondered why her husband would still pray for such a backstabbing friend.

Bala responded and said, "dear, we have to obey the commandments of Christ and pray for people like Henry if we don't want to become like them".

Bala was willing to sincerely pray for Henry because the Lord had commanded us to pray for those who despitefully use us and persecute us(Matthew 5:44). If we must abide in God's love, we must obey the commandments of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In today's Bible verse, why would the Lord tell His disciples to obey His commandments even though they were devout Jews who already obeyed the laws of the Old Testament? It is because the Lord had given them commandments that they could not find in the book of the law. One of such commandments is that we should pray for those who despitefully use us.

Believers are not under the old Testament laws, but are under the law of Christ(1 Corinthians 9:21, Galatians 6:2). The law of Christ is what Christ and His apostles taught the church. Many of the old Testament laws were reiterated and taught to the church by the Lord and His apostles, but many were not. For example, laws about Animal sacrifice, observing physical circumcision, nor the seventh day Sabbath, were not taught to the church, nor are they part of the Law of Christ.

Go into today remembering that if you must remain in the love of God, it is expedient that you obey the commandments of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jude 1:20-21 (NET) But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, by praying in the Holy Spirit, maintain yourselves in the love of God, while anticipating the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that brings eternal life
Because Franka lived in the expectation of the Lord's coming, she always remembered that she would one day stand before the Lord's judgment seat and give an account for the things she did and said. This expectation in her heart kept her holy and circumspect. There was a time she was about to make an important decision concerning her marriage because her husband was misbehaving, but she didn't know how she was going to justify that decision before the Lord when she appeared before him. She thus refrained from making that decision.

An essential spiritual maintenance requirement is living in the expectation of the Lord's coming. After the Lord appears and the saints have been resurrected to meet Him, one very significant thing that would happen would be the judgment seat of Christ. The saints will all appear before Him to give an account of their stewardship. Some would suffer loss and not be allowed to enter in the joy of their king, while others would be rewarded with crowns, thrones, and territories to govern in the millennial reign(2 Timothy 4:8, 1 Corinthians 3:13-15, Matthew 25:21, Luke 18:16-17).

The Lord Jesus says we would give account for every idle word we utter(see Matthew 12:36). The Lord will not forget your labor of love(Hebrews 6:10). He will remember even the ones you've forgotten, and you can be sure that He will reward you when He appears.

Go into today knowing that living in the expectation of the Lord's coming is one of the requirements for maintaining yourself in God’s love. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be paid back according to what he has done while in the body, whether good or evil. 2 Corinthians 5:10 (NET).

Baptized Into Christ

Galatians 3:27-29 (NET) For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female – for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.

When Segun believed in the Lord Jesus and was baptized into Christ, he realized that he no longer had the old desire to steal the way he used to before he became a believer in the Lord Jesus. This was a wonder to him because before he accepted the Lord Jesus, he was a compulsive thief who had lost count of the things he had stolen. He stole so much that if it were possible, he would have stolen from himself.

Before Segun accepted Jesus and was baptized into Christ, he was a slave to sin, but because he was now baptized into Christ, he was no more a slave to sin. This was possible because Segun accepted that Christ was now his all in all. He was willing to forsake his culture and identity and pick up the new identity and culture of Christ. He even changed his name from Ogunsegun to Peter Oluwasegun. He no longer primarily saw himself as a Yoruba man but as a Christian whose life and home had to be shaped by the Kingdom culture revealed in the Holy Scriptures.

From today's Bible verses, we can see that as many as were baptized into Christ have clothed themselves with Christ. It is instructive that today's Bible verse did not say "as many as believe in Christ" because being baptized into Christ is a step deeper than just believing in Christ. Baptism connotes death and burial; death to the old self; death to the old life and identity, and resurrection into the new life and identity of Christ.

One sign that a believer has been baptized into Christ is that there would be no more "Jew nor Greek". This means that the cultural identity into which he was born would no longer define him. He would no longer primarily view himself through that lens. Paul who was a Jew among Jews before he believed said this in 1 Corinthians 9:20: “to the Jew, I became like a Jew to win them”. You will see from here that in truth, Paul no longer primarily viewed himself as a Jew but as a Christian. He was referring to Jews as "them" but referred to fellow Christians(many of whom were formerly Gentiles) as "us".

Many people have believed in Jesus but are still the same old person because they have not been baptized into Christ. They have not died to their old life and identity and received their new life and identity in Christ. The reason they are still slaves to sin is because they have not died to their old life and identity.

Go into today remembering that the only way you can discontinue the curses and blemishes of your old life and reap the blessings of being a member of the body of Christ is through baptism into Christ. This means death to your old life and identity and resurrection into the life and identity of Christ.

Confession: I am a Christian. I am a member of the body of Christ. Christ is my life. He is my identity. He is my all in all.

Jude 1:20-21 (NET) But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, by praying in the Holy Spirit, maintain yourselves in the love of God, while anticipating the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that brings eternal life.

Jessica desperately wanted Emeka to marry her. She prayed about this with fastings, prayed in tongues for hours, and made prophetic declarations. The only problem was that Emeka was already married to Cynthia, but Jessica wanted Emeka to leave Cynthia and marry her. Even though Jessica was praying those prayers in tongues, she was not praying in the Holy Spirit, and her prayers were fruitless.

One of the most important spiritual maintenance requirements for every believer is prayer. Prayer is to your spirit man what breathing and exercise are to your physical body. One physical thing we do without ceasing is breathing. We are also expected to pray without ceasing(see 1 Thess 5:17). This is only possible with the help of the Holy Spirit. Prayer should not just be an event where you call heaven and hang up (as likened to a telephone call). You should keep the call line open and never hang up. You should maintain constant communion with God through the Holy Spirit (who now dwells in you). This is praying in the Holy Spirit.

A believer who has no prayer life will be devoid of the required spiritual power to execute the things of his destiny and stay alive and healthy spiritually. The devil, knowing how important prayer is to you, would stop at nothing to detract and hinder you from praying fruitfully. The way to be sure that you're praying fruitfully is to pray in the Holy Spirit.

If you have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, you have been given a spiritual gift that makes it so much easier for you to pray in the Holy Ghost. Praying in tongues is one of the surest ways of praying in the Holy Spirit if your heart is right. But if your motive for prayer is wrong, you will not be praying in the Holy Spirit even if you're praying in tongues. For example, Jessica was not praying in the Holy Spirit even though she was speaking high-frequency tongues.

The word of God is inspired by the Holy Spirit and when you pray according to the word of God, you are praying in the Holy Spirit. You have to be careful to purify your motives when praying so that you would not be praying in the flesh but in the Spirit. Many believers have wasted so much time praying fruitless prayers because their prayers were motivated by flesh.

Go into today remembering that a very important spiritual maintenance requirement for you is praying in the Holy Spirit. Don't hang up the heavenly call line. Devote time daily to praying fervently. This is one sure way you recharge your spirit with the power of God.

John 8:31-32 (NET) Then Jesus said to those Judeans who had believed him, “If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Bolaji observed that in his family, every man was a chronic womanizer. His father left his mother for another woman because of this. His grandfather did the same, but only returned to his wife when he became very sick and his lovers deserted him. His father tried to return to his mother when he too became very sick, but his mother wouldn’t accept him back.

Even though Bolaji was born again and happily married, he observed that a feeling of discontentment towards his wife and a strong lust for other women started growing within his heart. It didn’t take him long to realize that the same demon that led his grandfather and father astray was now on his case. He knew this was a family curse when he started having symptoms of the same disease that killed his father and grandfather. He had prayed and fasted for many days, but as soon as his fasting ended, the lust came back.

The Lord revealed to him that he had to change his belief concerning certain things if he wanted to walk in spiritual liberty. His life and worldview were not shaped by the word of God because he wasn’t devoted to the ministry of the word enough. He primarily saw himself through the lens of the culture he was born into, not through the lens of God's kingdom culture. He would say things like: "I was a Yoruba man before I became a Christian". His earthly culture and tradition always took preeminence over God's word and kingdom values when there was a contradiction.

Every believer in Christ has a heritage of blessings rather than curses (see Ephesians 1:3), and should walk in total freedom. But this freedom is appropriated through our knowledge of the truth. It was to those who believed in Him that Jesus said ‘you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free’ (see John 8:31-32).

Christ sets us free through our knowledge of the truth revealed by the word of God we know and believe. For example, those who still believe they are under ancestral curses, rather than believing God’s truth concerning them, never truly experience freedom.

Go into today changing what you believe according to the truth of God’s word concerning you.

Confession: I am filled with the knowledge of God’s will and walking in the blessing(see Col 1:9-10)

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NET) Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Mr. Banji was a very successful businessman who had built a business empire that provided employment for thousands of people. He wanted his children to take the reins of his business empire, so he was very particular about training them to be like him in decision-making and business acumen. Mr. Banji could not hand his business over to just anyone. Those who would run the business must have his wisdom and skills. Thankfully, his children had his genes, so they could easily learn and become like him.

God created man to be in His image and after His likeness because He wanted man to inherit His eternal kingdom. The creator of the universe has a kingdom that governs His creation, and He wants us to inherit that kingdom. The first man(Adam) sinned and fell short of the glory of God and forfeited this glorious destiny. In him, we all sinned and inherited an unrighteous rebellious nature towards God.

The Lord God was not willing to give up on "project man". He came down into our world and fulfilled all the requirements for people to be made righteous and redeemed so they would be restored to their original destiny and inherit God's kingdom. In order for anyone to partake in this, he would have to deny the rebellion of Adam (that man his own master) and come under the Lordship of Christ as his master. This means he would start living to please the Lord rather than himself.

Everything we do to please ourselves rather than the Lord will produce unrighteousness. But when we live to please the Lord, we would ultimately find that this would give us more joy and pleasure than we could have ever found in pursuing our own pleasure(Psalm 16:11).

If a person claims to believe in the Lord Jesus but still continues to live a life of unrighteousness, his lifestyle demonstrates that he is not abiding under the Lordship of Christ. If Jesus is truly your Lord, you would live to please Him. A life lived to please the Lord is a righteous life. A life lived to please yourself is an unrighteous life.

Go into today remembering that living to please yourself rather than to please the Lord produces unrighteousness. But when pleasing the Lord becomes your priority, you will find righteousness, purpose, and destiny.

Psalms 75:6-7 (KJV) For promotion cometh neither from the east nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is judge: he putteth down one and setteth up another.
Whenever Percy thought of his workplace, all he felt was anger and resentment. He felt that his new line manager had hated him from the time he declined slightly adjusting the financial records in preparation for an audit. So much so that he had given him bad reviews on his appraisals just to punish him by making him lose his bonuses and an opportunity for a promotion and a raise. The thought that he could miss out on the promotion due him for which he had worked so hard for years further fuelled Percy's anger.

Walking with God requires placing implicit trust in Him. One of the dimensions a believer must come to know God as is as Judge. As Judge, He is not oblivious to the trials, temptations, events, and circumstances that surround your life. He knows how to dish out judgment and his judgments are not mere words but commands upon which angels must act and to which nature and circumstances bend to.

This is why God says, ‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay’ (Rom 12:19). And note that when God acts in ‘vengeance’, it is not vengeance in the sense in which a man pays back one who offends him, but in the sense in which a judge delivers judgment to a convicted offender.

Therefore, when you feel oppressed, cheated, maltreated, or persecuted, don’t give in to the pressure to hit back, or to resort to backbiting, bitterness, or even intrigues. Simply appeal to the Judge in prayer. He has the authority and the wisdom to intervene, and his interventions are always just. He will deliver, save, uplift, and restore.

Go into today confident that your life is in God’s hands and that as you commit your ways into his hands, he will direct your path.
Thank you Father for being the judge of all the earth. Thank you for your righteous judgments, In Jesus' name. Amen,
— Ikechukwu Mpama

Jude 1:20-21 (NET) But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, by praying in the Holy Spirit, maintain yourselves in the love of God, while anticipating the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that brings eternal life.

Yeong bought a brand-new car and was really excited. But because of experience and wisdom, he wanted to know the things required to maintain the vehicle and keep it in good shape. He knew that using the car without proper maintenance would lead to it breaking down. He downloaded a maintenance manual from his car manufacturer and started studying it.

In apostle Jude's letter to the church, before today's Bible verses, he talked about how prophecies had been given of people in these last days who would be worldly, divisive, and devoid of the Spirit. He went on to advise us on how to maintain ourselves in the love of God. He talks about building up ourselves in our most Holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, while anticipating the coming of our Lord.

The letter of Apostle Jude started with the Holy Spirit telling us to earnestly contend for the faith that was once and for all handed down to the saints. This infers that there are various types of faith, but there is the original faith which He refers to as the Most Holy Faith. Indeed, there are various versions of the faith today that are very different from what the apostles of old practiced and handed down to us.

If you observe critically, you will find that there are various versions and options of faith you can subscribe to and build yourself in. There is the kind of faith that is self-centered and focused primarily on worldliness, but there is the faith that is focused on [pleasing] God and whose hope(ultimate expectation) is the Blessed Hope, even the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13). Beloved, this most holy faith is what we are expected to build ourselves in. We do this by keeping our hearts fixed on the blessed hope and living in the light of it (remember, faith is the substance of things hoped for). We live by faith knowing that we will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ(when He returns) to give an account of our actions here in the body (see 2 Corinthians 5:7-10).

Go into today remembering that your spiritual maintenance requirement involves living in the anticipation of the Lord's coming, while building up yourself on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.

If anyone loves God

1 Corinthians 8:2‭-‬3 (AMP) If anyone imagines that he knows and understands anything [of divine matters, without love], he has not yet known as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God [with awe-filled reverence, obedience and gratitude], he is known by Him [as His very own and is greatly loved].
Gbenga was becoming really proud because of his ability to learn things and understand very complex concepts. He believed he had a great understanding of spiritual things, but his great knowledge was not fruitful because love was lacking in his heart. He saw other believers who he believed didn't know as much as him bearing fruits and raising disciples of the Lord, but he was only full of fruitless knowledge. He knew he was in trouble when he could not cast out an unclean spirit that sought to afflict him. He eventually humbled himself and started growing spiritually.

One of the most important virtues we are to gain on this side of the coming of the Lord is love for God. This love would demonstrate itself in love for people.

From today's Bible verses, we see that those who love God are those that are known by Him. One of the surest markers that a person now has God's divine nature is that the love of God would be in his heart. No matter how much you love your pet, you cannot have communion with it and know it like you would another human because you and the pet do not have the same nature. It is only those who have God's nature that can be known by Him.

On the judgment day, the Lord will tell some workers of iniquity that he does not know them (Matthew 7:22-23), even though some of them would have worked miracles in His name, their conduct demonstrated that they had not been changed to the divine nature [that loves righteousness and hates iniquity].

Go into today remembering that it is those who love God that can be known by God. The love of God in your heart is one of the strongest evidence that you have received the divine nature and have escaped the corruption of the Adamic nature.
Prayer: Heavenly father, please help me love you and walk in your divine nature. Amen.

Hebrews 2:14-15 (KJV) Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Caleb went to visit his friend and found that they had a very fierce guard dog in their compound. Because of his previous experience with that kind of dog, and because of stories he had heard in the past, he froze with fear when after letting himself into the compound he realized that there was no one inside but he and the dog alone. As the dog rushed towards him barking, he had no choice but to shout the name of his friend. As he shouted his friend’s name, he noticed that the dog was actually afraid of him and started slowing down. He shouted again and again, and the more he did, the less afraid he became. The dog saw that he was no more afraid of it and turned away. He was no more afraid of the dog because he realized he had authority over it.

You see, we don't really fear things we have authority over, but when something is dangerous and we have no authority over it, we tend to fear it.

All the authority over death has been given unto our Lord Jesus Christ. He took this authority by destroying the the works of the former holder of it-- the devil.

Those who are truly in Christ would share in His authority. Because of this, we are no longer to be afraid of death. Apart from the cessation of physical life, death has other manifestations in human life. Death can affect health, business, career, relationship, security, etc. Most people in the world are under bondage to mammon because of the fear of some of these manifestations of death. But those who are in Christ have authority over death. We are not to be afraid of death, and because of this, we are [to be] free indeed.

What does it mean to be in Christ? It means to believe in Him and let His word abide in you and shape your life. It means to remain in Him and not go back to the world.

Go into today remembering that because you are in Christ, you have authority over death. You are not to be afraid of death or any of its manifestations.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me abide in Christ and grow in His authority, In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer of Agreement

Matthew 18:19 (NET) Again, I tell you the truth, if two of you on earth agree about whatever you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.

Two brothers were praying the "prayer of agreement" that their neighbor's business would fail so that their own would succeed. They prayed this way because they believed that the fastest way for their fast food business to grow is when Mrs. Anderson's own fails and shuts down. They fasted and prayed, got anointing oil from their "prophet" and sprinkled it in front of Mrs. Anderson's business at night, but their "prayers" were not answered. Their agreement was not ratified by heaven. They were not disciples of the Lord but greedy churchgoers who needed to be saved.

It is important to note that those to whom today's Bible verse is directed are not just ordinary people coming together to agree on a matter but disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ coming together to agree. Disciples are believers who have been trained and transformed by the words of Christ (see John 8:31-32). They are those whose desires would now naturally align with the Lord's desires because they now have the mind of Christ.

When disciples come together and can agree on a matter, their agreement on that matter should usually demonstrate and confirm the Lord's will concerning that matter. I have been in a situation where I really wanted something and believed it was the will of God to get that thing done, but when I discussed it with my brethren who are disciples of Christ, we couldn't agree on the matter, and through humility, I learned that my original position was not in agreement with the will of God, that was why it was impossible to get other true disciples to agree with me on that matter. When saints come together to pray prayers of agreement, their corporate goal should be to ensure that they are in agreement with the Lord's will on the issues requiring prayers.

Go into today remembering that one reason the prayer of agreement among the saints is so powerful is that our agreement as saints demonstrate alignment with the will of God on the issues.

Prayer: Ask God to give you the mind of Christ so you will have a more fruitful prayer life.

Philippians 1:21-23 (NET) For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain. Now if I am to go on living in the body, this will mean productive work for me, yet I don’t know which I prefer: I feel torn between the two, because I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far

Chloe observed that unlike her, Mary her elder sister was no more afraid of untimely death. They were flying together in a plane when there was severe turbulence and at some point, it appeared that the pilot had lost control of the plane. Chloe started thinking about all the people that had died in previous plane crashes. She started to panic, but she observed that Mary was calm and undisturbed. A few minutes into the turbulence, Mary tapped Chloe and said "don't worry, I can't die now. We'd land safely". True to Mary's word, they landed safely despite the damaged landing gear of the plane.

"How were you so sure that we wouldn't crash? How could you have been so calm?" Chloe frantically asked Mary after they landed. "God has shown me my future and the things I would do for Him in this life. I just know I can't die before I complete those things" Mary answered.

From when Mary was a teenager, she had known the Lord and was committed to pleasing Him in all things. Everything about her life was now towards advancing the gospel and pleasing the Lord. As she grew in the knowledge of God, she grew in His authority, and she was no longer afraid of death. Chloe was convinced that the reason their plane did not crash that day was because Mary was in it.

If you read today's Bible verses carefully, you will see that Apostle Paul had the authority and the choice to determine when he would die. Death for him was not something that could happen accidentally, it was something that could only happen when he was ready to go. This kind of spiritual authority is reserved for those who, like Paul, can truly say "for me to live is Christ". Everything about Apostle Paul's existence was for the fulfillment of the purpose and will of Christ. That was the secret of his authority. That is the secret to living a fulfilled life that cannot be cut short by an untimely death.

Go into today remembering that only the life lived for Christ truly counts in eternity. A life that counts in eternity commands the power of eternity even in time.

Prayer Confession: I live a life that pleases God in all respects. I have the authority of Christ and my life cannot be cut short. I will fulfill my earthly purpose and receive a hero's welcome in heaven, In Jesus’ name. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:12 (KJV) Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Amaka was very excellent at her work. Because of this she became a favorite of her boss. One day he gave her a new assignment, and this assignment would involve her constantly telling lies and violating her conscience. She thought about it and decided to politely decline the opportunity. He asked her why she was turning down such an opportunity to be promoted faster than her colleagues. She simply responded: "sir, doing this work would be against my faith". He reminded her that he too was a Christian and even a deacon. When it became clear that Amaka wasn’t willing to take the "opportunity" he was presenting her, he gave it to somebody else. He couldn't afford to lose her because she was really good at her job.

Amaka turned down the offer because she knew taking it would be violating her faith. Amaka didn’t say she couldn’t do the job because of her religion, she said she couldn’t do it because it was against her faith.

There are certain things that when a believer begins to do, he is doing it at the peril of his own faith. Telling lies, for example. is a faith killer. People who live by faith do not make a habit of telling lies because they believe God will come through for them and they don’t have to tell a lie. Having unbeliever friends is a great faith killer. Even though we are to love everybody, everybody cannot be your friend. Unbelief is a contagious spiritual force that is easily transmitted through friendship.

If a believer continually walks in a way that violates his faith, he is rendering himself spiritually weak and ineffective.

Go into today remembering that as believers, we should fight the good fight of faith. This involves identifying the things that weaken our faith and running away from them.

Proverbs 25:28 (NET) Like a city that is broken down and without wall, so is a person who cannot control his temper
Some time ago the internet was agog with the description and potentials of the Israeli Iron Dome, an air defense missile system developed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4km to 70km away. But defense systems of nations have not always been this sophisticated. Back when the instruments of warfare were still rudimentary and the use of spears, javelins, swords, and shields characterized the weapons of war, a proper defense system of a city included the fortification of the city using walls.

Walls were the first line of defense to keep unwanted intruders out. The walls usually have a gate (or two) that is closely guided and not left unmanned. Another feature of the wall is the watchtower. This is also strategically placed on the wall to aid the city in identifying potential danger and alert the city dwellers to it. This is why cities/nations such as Jericho, Babylon, Troy, and China had walls. It was always a turning point in a battle when an invading enemy army breaches the wall of a city.

Now imagine for a moment what it would be like in such times if a city living among enemies were to be without walls or with broken down walls. That would be like extending an invitation to invaders and intruders to take over the city.

The Bible likens a man who has no control over his own emotions to such a city without walls. Such a man would be like a dog whose leash is in the hands of any who can turn on the knob of his dominant emotion. Such a man does not respond to issues according to God’s wisdom but is rather reactive. You can be sure that when offenses come, this man is bound to take them up, when seduction calls, he will answer, and when temptation signals he will respond. He is without restraint; lacking self-control.

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, patience, self-control. A spirit-filled believer is not impulsive, his steps are measured, and he lives by the terms of reference of God’s word. Being Spirit-filled, and living accordingly, is the way out of living like a city without walls. A Spirit-filled believer walks in love and does not get easily angered; he is slow to anger. This is very critical, as the Scripture says, “Better to be slow to anger than to be a mighty warrior, and one who controls his temper is better than one who captures a city” (Proverbs 16:32).

Go into today staying with the Word and building the edifice of your inner man as you pray constantly in the Holy Ghost.

Proverbs 24:16 (NET)Although a righteous person may fall seven times, he gets up again, but the wicked will be brought down by calamity.
Ejura was tired of the constant rise and fall experience in her walk with the Lord. It started looking to her like her spiritual life was going in circles. There were many things that the Lord had spoken to her concerning life and ministry, but it appeared that her spiritual instability was hindering them from coming to fruition.

A day came that she became totally tired of it all and decided to discuss her frustration with her discipler. He discerned that she was now getting discouraged and wondering if God still loved her because of all her failures. He took time to help her understand that the fact that she had fallen did not mean God no longer loved her. He helped her see that there were demons delegated to frustrate believers and cause them to fall and not rise again. But that it was a miracle and the work of God’s great love and grace that has ensured that she rose again each time.

He went ahead to show her that there was a difference between the works of the flesh and the manipulation of demons, that if against a believer’s will, she appears to be in bondage to any work of the flesh, a demon is usually involved. While the remedy for the flesh is the cross, the remedy for demons is expulsion by the authority of Christ.

He continued by telling her that one reason many believers keep rising and falling is that "the zeal of God’s house" has not consumed them. They are not yet consumed by the work of God such that they know they cannot afford to keep falling. He discerned that Ejura needed to be delivered. He cast out the demons that kept Ejura in bondage and unable to grow spiritually. From that day, Ejura was free. She started enjoying stability in her walk with God and started growing rapidly.

Go into today remembering that anyone in Christ is free indeed. If there appears to be any bondage in your life keeping you from spiritual stability, you have the authority to expel demons and walk in constant spiritual liberty.

1 Kings 17:6 (GNB) He drank water from the brook, and ravens brought him bread and meat every morning and every evening.

Everyone knew that Mayowa was quite meticulous and it showed in his studies and even in how he handled his finances too. He had a habit of drawing up a budget that contains his projected expenses as well as the expected inflow of funds, and so it was no surprise when Eddy walked in on Mayowa fussing over some sheets of paper with a blue pen, a red pen and a pencil littered all around.

“What now Mayowa?” Eddy enquired, “Don’t tell me you are still trying to figure out that Math problem from class?”

“You wish”, Mayowa responded, “I am battling with something more serious here”.

“What could be more serious than getting the A grade for Mayowa the scholar?”

“Listen Ed, I am grappling with a decision here and trying to make sense of it all so I can know what to do”

Upon further inquiry, Eddy discovered that Mayowa was struggling with obeying the promptings of the Holy Spirit to be a blessing, financially, to a Fellowship brother who was in a different unit and department. However, he was wondering if he was wrong about the said promptings considering that he clearly still had some need for money and therefore it didn’t make sense to him that God would ask him to give the said money to another without even as much as a whisper on how He was going to replace the said money or meet the need it was supposed to supply.

Eddy, though from a different fellowship, was also a Christian and he provided some counsel to Mayowa that helped him take the right decision.

He took Mayowa’s mind to several portions of scripture including today’s text. From today’s text he pointed out how that God’s vehicle of supply to meet Elijah’s food needs happened to be ravens who are omnivores and eat meat and bread just like humans, however, they stayed true to their assignment of feeding Elijah morning and evening and it had nothing to do with whether they were filled or hungry.

Likewise, we don’t become instruments of God’s supply only when all our own needs have been sufficiently supplied. In fact, that which we are to supply might be the very thing that could meet our own needs. But the Bible says, “it is required in stewards that they be faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2).

Go into today determined to make obedience and faithfulness to the Lord our mandate even in the most inconvenient of times.

How Do You See Prayer?

Matthew 6:6 (ESV), “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."

In Luke 18, Jesus told a parable about a widow who needed justice. This widow went to the judge in town and said to him, “give me justice against my adversary". There are many ways she could have solved her problem, but she chose the legally acceptable way, and although it took some time, she eventually got what she wanted.

Jesus told this parable to teach that prayer is the legal way to deal with life’s issues and that we are never to give up praying until we have received an answer.

The widow pleaded with a human judge but we are to plead with our Father; God.

In Matthew 6:9 Jesus said, “Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…". Every prayer should be directed to our Father in heaven.

It is sad that many today are now taking prayer as an end in itself. They make statements like: “prayer is powerful", and “prayer moves mountains”, while others pride themselves in the number of hours they spend praying. But, many of such end up very frustrated because they did not get answers.

Today's text says, “And your Father who sees in secret will reward you", proving that God is the one who is powerful, he is the one who answers prayers (see Psalms 65:2).

The next time you want to pray, remember that: prayer is not the end, but a means to reach God who is the end. So, the target should not be prayer, rather, the target should be God. If you pray with this understanding, you will get more answers.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please help me to pray correctly.

Hebrews 2:3-4 (NKJV) how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

Shade had a hard time discerning false prophets from true ones. She observed that some of the false prophets had become very smart by embracing 'holiness' doctrines.
But she had a personal encounter with one of such holiness preachers and realized he was as greedy and filthy as the rest.

She also realized that most of the false prophets were not interested in winning souls for the Lord, they were only interested in the money.

We can see from today's Bible verses that salvation was first preached by the Lord Jesus Himself, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him (His disciples who echoed His gospel).

In Matthew 9:35 and Luke 8:1, we see that the Lord Jesus went to different towns and villages teaching and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom. We also see that His disciples did the same. Many wonder what gospel message Jesus and the Apostles preached since Jesus was not yet crucified? Well, Jesus preached the message of salvation. What makes a person receive eternal salvation is believing that Jesus is Lord (the Christ of God, the messiah). Even before Jesus died on the cross, people were being saved through believing in Him.

We see in Luke 19:9 that Jesus said salvation had come to the house of Zacchaeus [because he believed in Him].

Before and after His death and resurrection, believing that Jesus is Lord was the key to salvation. The resurrection was God's token proof that Jesus is Lord. The Jews crucified Him because He said He was the Christ (the Son of God, the King of the Jews). But God raised Him up on the third day as proof that He is indeed the Christ (Lord, Anointed One, the Messiah). The gospel we preach today now includes this vital truth— that God raised Jesus from the dead (see Romans 10:9).

In John 4, we are given a rare peek into the content of the gospel message that Jesus preached while He walked the streets of Israel. We see Jesus preaching to the Samaritan woman, and their conversation headed up to Him revealing to her that He is the Messiah (see John 4:25-26). The woman believed in Him and even invited others to come and see the Christ (see John 4:29).

Whether then, or when the Apostles preached, or today, the gospel message has been about bringing people to receive the Lordship of Christ Jesus. People who receive the gospel live under the Lordship of Christ. That's why they repent of their old ways that do not align with life under Christ's government.

Go into today remembering that God confirms His gospel with signs and wonders, miracles, and gifts of The Spirit.

The next time you want to discern whether a prophet is false or not, look at the fruits of his ministry (Matthew 7:16). Is he raising people whose allegiance is to Christ (this shows by their lives of submission to the Lordship of Christ) or is he raising people whose true allegiance is to him and to mammon?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me be a true minister of your salvation. Stretch out your hand to confirm your word in life with signs and wonders, miracles, and gifts of the Spirit, In Jesus' name. Amen.

Hebrews 2:1 (NET) Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Terso accepted the Lord on campus when he almost died as a result of the initiation rituals imposed on him by a certain cult group he was about to join. Their members abandoned him to die when it was clear that he wasn’t recovering from the wounds inflicted on him during initiation.

His life was saved by a Christian group who prayed for him and cared for him until he recovered.

He accepted the Lord, grew in the word of God, and walked in the tangible power of God as he grew. Many came to know the Lord because of him.

Many years later, he started ignoring some of the fundamentals of the gospel and started getting excited by strange stories and legalistic rules presented as holiness: every believer who didn’t dress a certain way was going to hell, etc. Terso became very judgmental and legalistic, as a result, there was no more assurance of salvation in his heart, and he was evidently waning in spiritual might.

After certain things happened in his life that proved to him that he had drifted away from the Truth that made him saved, he looked for his university sermon jottings and started reading them again until he properly understood them. The Lord restored him and he discarded the strange doctrines he had received.

It is worthy of all diligence to pay closer attention to the word of God and be sure that we properly understand the basics of our faith as believers. Many have drifted away because they did not give all diligence to understand and continue in certain foundational truths.

Go into today remembering that more than anything else in this world, we must give all diligence to the ministry of the word and to prayer.

Prayer: Lord, please help me never to slip away from your truth. Help me to always be a witness for you in this world. Amen.
