Romans 1:4 (KJV) And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead
Funke had a false view of holiness because of her neighbors. She thought being holy meant dressing funny and not using deodorant. Even after she believed in the Lord Jesus, unknown to her, she was not very comfortable with the subject of holiness. When she heard a preacher talk about holiness, she felt he was preaching legalism. But as Funke grew in the knowledge of God, she realized the true meaning of holiness. She now desired above all else to be holy because she understood that holiness was the secret to walking in authority as sons of God.
It is important to note that in spite of the fact that we have been ordained to be sons of God, it is through sanctification(holiness) that we would practically apprehend the reality of sonship.
Even our Lord Jesus was declared to be the son of God by the Spirit of holiness.
2 Corinthians 6:17-7:1 reveals that it is when we accomplish holiness that we would walk in God's promise of sonship.
Here's what the Holy Spirit says in 2 Corinthians 6:17-18, 7:1:
Therefore “come out from their midst, and be separate,” says the Lord, “and touch no unclean thing, and I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,” says the All-Powerful Lord.
Therefore, since we have these promises [mentioned above], dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that could defile the body and the spirit, and thus accomplish holiness out of reverence for God.
Go into today knowing that if you must grow in the authority and power of the Holy Spirit, you must become more like Christ. Becoming like Christ is the definition of holiness.
