FOUNDATION OF REPENTANCE

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 6:1-3

Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And God permitting, we will do so.

NIV

Our text outlines about five elementary teachings on Christ. After examining the five elementary teaching on Christ, we shall move on to the teachings for the mature.

We shall first be examining the foundation of repentance:

The teaching about the foundation of our repentance reveals that we were all born into this world with a sinful nature that is in enmity with God. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God (see Rom 3:23)

We inherited this nature from our father who inherited it from his father who ultimately inherited this nature from Adam, the first man who disobeyed God by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We see this sinful nature evident in us even as children, no one taught you how to lie or commit other sins as a child. We were all born with hearts that loved sin. Because of this nature that we had, it was impossible for us to have fellowship with God. This gave devil license to keep us in bondage. We were slaves to sin and the devil; doomed to eternal damnation. It was not so in the beginning.

Christ Jesus came to save us from our sins; the dominion of the devil and to usher us into the glorious life of the sons of God. He did this by coming to this world as a fleshly man without sin and redeeming us from our sins. He did this by willfully giving his life and shedding his blood for you and me. He resurrected from the dead after the third day and gave us (who believe) power over all the powers of the enemy. This power is that great power he exerted when he was raised from the dead into a glorified body.

Anyone who accepts Jesus now will not perish but have eternal life. Anyone who renounces His sins and confesses the lordship of Christ over his life shall be saved and given power over sin, the devil and all his works.

This is a summary of the teachings on the foundation of our repentance which is faith in the lord Jesus.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father. I thank you for your saving grace. I pray I will continue to experience this daily as I walk in your love, in Jesus name. Amen
