Jesus destroyed the works of the Devil

Listen to Audio Version

Heb 2:14-15

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

NIV

We are all flesh and blood. The devil had become resident in the world of the men of flesh and locked therein so that he would be able to have total dominion of the world of humans. Therefore Christ had to come in human form that he may destroy the works of the devil, which had become resident in the human flesh. He became the first born of all human kind and died and resurrected to the glorified body. He spoiled the work of the devil because he became the first born of humankind and died so that he would destroy the works of the devil that gets its strength from the flesh. Jesus then resurrected to new life, with a redeemed body; one that had been redeemed from the decay caused by sin and the sinful nature.

The consequence of this is that God has given us the opportunity of being joined to Christ, we who are joined to the living Christ who has been glorified get to partake in His nature and live by the consequences of His action. Before we became joined to Christ we were living under the consequences of what Adam (the first Adam) who is our father according to the flesh did, but now we live under the consequences of what Jesus (the last Adam) has done if we have accepted Him as our lord and savior. The first Adam sinned against God and fell short of God’s glory. By doing this he subjected all human beings to the dominion of the devil. The last Adam (Christ Jesus) died for our sins and destroyed the works of the devil which was operating through the corrupted flesh. He resurrected with a glorified body and is exalted above all the heavens. He has brought eternal life and freedom to all who receive Him. He brought grace (divine enablement to do works) and truth (see John 1:17).

Go into today knowing that Jesus has destroyed all the works of the devil in your life and because you are now a spiritual man, you are no more under the corruption and curse that was occasioned by the flesh. You now have the divine eternal life flowing out of your inner man.
