THE LAYING ON OF HANDS (ORDINATION)

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

1 Tim 4:14

Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

KJV

This aspect of the teachings on the laying on of hands reveals that God has called all His children into specific assignments within His kingdom. There is no one in the kingdom of God without a responsibility therein.

Now there are some that have been particularly called to do ministry in the house of God (just like others have been called into the business world, administrations, helps, etc.); they have been called particularly to minister to the church (body of Christ). These people are expected to lead the body of Christ and as we may put it these days, they are the ones called into the pulpit ministry. They stand as visible leaders in the body of Christ usually ministering the word and power of God to their hearers. The doctrine of the laying on of hands reveals that such people should be approved and authorized by the presbytery (the part of church reserved for the officiating minsters) and this approval is sealed by the laying on of hands. We normally call this approval an ordination.

Even though you may have a calling of God upon your life, if that calling is to minister the word to the body of Christ, or stand in leadership in the church of Christ( e.g. as an evangelist, pastor, teacher, prophet, Apostle), it is expedient for you to be officially ordained by the presbytery of an assembly of God’s people.

This should be done because it is the order of God’s house (even as seen in the Old Testament). When the church binds a thing on earth, it is bound in heaven and when we loose a thing on earth, it is loosed in heaven. If you want the approval and endorsement of heaven over your ministry get the approval and endorsement of a true assembly of Christ.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father. I thank you for your word. I pray you help me identify and walk in your purpose for my life each and every day, In Jesus name I pray. Amen
