Job 28:28

And this is what he says to all humanity: ‘The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding’ [NLT]

In our previous study, we saw that as children of the Most High God, the highest wisdom is available to us to live on earth. Wisdom has been generally defined as 'the right application of knowledge’. Today we shall see how applying the fear of God in our daily living is wisdom.

The fear of God is the foundation of wisdom (Psa 111:10; Pro 9:10). The All Knowing God is the All Wise God. He - being the Creator of all things, knows what is right and what is wrong. Therefore, to fear God is to avoid whatever God says is wrong. People do not please a judge by simply fearing him. But by doing what is right, justice is on your side. Therefore, since God is a Just Judge of all His creation, avoiding evil is being wise.

We have an example in Joseph. Joseph was in a foreign land where he could easily do anything. Yet he refused to fall for Potiphar’s Wife’s seduction. Joseph told her ‘I cannot do this and sin against God’ (see Gen 39:9). This is how Joseph made all his decisions. Little wonder God gave him such wisdom that preserved an entire generation during famine. Whenever a man shuns evil, even in private, he shows he understands the fear of God and is applying that understanding in his life.

Go into today, with an understanding of the fear of God. Decide at all time to be wise by doing what is right. Choose to do what is right and leave the outcome to God.

Prayer: My Father and God, I desire your wisdom in my daily life. Put in my heart the right fear for You. Let Your fear in me guide me always.
