RESPONDING TO GOD AS CHILDREN

Growing up as a child, we lived in a compound of eight flats. I remember being amused watching how children in those different families behaved whenever their fathers arrived from work. In some families, children would scamper and run to arrange the house and pretend to be studying or doing house chores. Some other families have children who didn't care and would stay glued to the television, murmuring a few words of greeting when the dad walked in. And there were those children who would leave all they were doing, run out to welcome their dad and help out with bags and luggage. Now as a young father myself, I can tell those children were responding to their fathers' discipline (or lack of it).

So it is with us children of God. God is our heavenly Father. He has begotten us in the spirit that is why we are born again. Sin alters our perception of God, and we respond differently when God corrects us. Adam and Eve became afraid of God when they disobeyed Him. They worsened it by refusing to take responsibility for their wrongdoings. On the contrary, even though Peter denied the Lord Jesus, he responded to Jesus' look of love by repenting and went ahead to become a leader in the early church movement.

Go into today knowing God is your Father and would correct you out of His love for you. Go to Him boldly when you miss it and He would restore you with grace.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to know you as the loving Father that you are. Give me the grace to be the responsible child you always want me to be. Amen.
