John 15:4-5
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in Me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing. KJV
Biodun told Pastor Nat that he believed he was under a family curse; “all my elder brothers never had good marriages and are all now divorced, right now I am having serious problems with my wife and the thought of divorce keeps coming to my mind”. Pastor Nat told Biodun that if he was abiding in Christ and Christ abiding in him, it was IMPOSSIBLE for any curse to operate in his life, that Light and darkness cannot occupy the same space.
Abiding is something that one does consciously. What then does it mean to abide in Christ?
John 15:10 explains: 'If you KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love'. This means that we abide in Christ when we obey His commandments (the word of God). When we love God and one another, we are obeying His commandments (Joh 13:34-35; 15:12) and are abiding in Him. The commandments of the scriptures are summed up to one; LOVE. We must love God and our neighbors as well.
Go into today knowing that the love of God has been shed abroad in your heart and that the expression of this love makes you abide in Him always.
Prayer: My Father in heaven, thank You for Your word today. I ask for the grace to always keep Your commandments, loving You and my neighbors more, so that I may dwell with You always. In Jesus name. Amen.
