Colossians 3:8-9
But now, put off all such things as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with its practices. [NET]
When a person is born again, he is a new creature. The only problem is that he still has access to the old creature that he was. He can still choose to either walk in the Spirit or walk in the flesh. This is because he is an entity of spirit and flesh, the spirit is renewed but the flesh is not. From our text, we see that it is possible for Christians to still have some fleshly attributes like anger, malice, lying, etc.
You see, the more you walk in the Spirit, the easier it will be for you to continue to walk therein. The more you walk in the flesh, the harder it will be for you to walk again in the Spirit. That is the danger of allowing yourself to switch to the flesh from time to time. A man who walks in the Spirit controls himself according to His renewed mind by the word of God in his spirit.
The Holy Spirit supplies us with God’s grace. This grace empowers us to put off the works of the flesh and walk in the spirit life. Those who do not have the Holy Spirit do not have the ability to do this.
Go into today determining to put off the works of the flesh and to walk in the Spirit always. The spirit life produces a life of love. The flesh life produces a life of selfishness.
Prayer: ask the Lord Jesus to deliver you from every work of the flesh that has become a stronghold which is difficult for you to put off.
