PLEASING GOD

Mark 15:15
'And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified' [KJV]

A lady was asked by her manager to sign in consent to receiving a purchase that was made by the company. She discovered that some of the items were missing. The manager promised to give her a share of the money if she cooperated with them, but she bluntly refused.

She stood her ground despite the manager’s threat to recommend her dismissal. She told him that it was better to disobey man than to disobey God. “I don’t lie” she said. She was dismissed at the recommendation of the manager.

Sometime later, top management found out about the crooked actions of this manager. He was sacked along with his cohorts, but the lady was reinstated back to her position.

We must understand that the one most important person to please is God. It doesn't matter what others may think, if your actions please God, you are on the right track.

From our text above, Pilate ordered the execution of Jesus Christ and the release of Barabbas because he wanted to please the people. He could not find any fault in Jesus, but because he was afraid of losing favor (see John 19:12), he neglected that which was right.

When we give too much attention to what people would say, we lose the fear of God and act foolishly. When we live to please man, we cease to please God.

'And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell'. (Matt 10:28)

Go into today with this resolve: ‘If it's not from God, then it's not good enough for me’.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I ask for the grace to despise anything that is not of You, no matter how beneficial it may seem. Amen
