FINDING FULFILLMENT

Ecclesiastes 1:2
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” [NIV]

Young Solomon was preferred to be king by his father David. He knew he was going to be a major flop without God's help. He asked God for a wise heart and God decided to give him in addition to wisdom; riches and honor more than any king before or after him. (See 1 Kings 3).

Guided by the awesome wisdom God gave him, King Solomon wanted to know what life was all about. He started with wisdom itself; and discovered that acquiring wisdom and knowledge just for the sake of being wise is accumulating much grief and sorrow. He delved into pleasure, achievements, material acquisition and hard work and discovered that none of these could bring true fulfillment. The void inside him he compared to 'eternity', and nothing earthly seemed to fill it. (Eccl. 3:11). He gave his verdict on all the exercises man engages in with the aim of being fulfilled as ‘vanity!' Vanity means nothing. 'Vanity' is actually less than nothing or 'meaningless'. Solomon concluded his research by saying the whole duty of man is to fear God and keep His laws (Eccl. 12:13).

Only one man fulfilled 'the whole duty of man'; Jesus Christ. He is the 'Greater than Solomon' (see Luk 11:31). He is the center of life; only in Him will any life find true meaning. (see John 1:1-4; 10:10).

Go into today putting Christ at the heart of everything you do.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, fix my heart on You alone as the source of my fulfillment. Amen. Not yet saved? Tap: http://bit.ly/1iTOmol
