John 1:20-21[NET]
20 He came right out and said, "I am not the Messiah." 21 "Well then, who are you?" they asked. "Are you Elijah?" "No," he replied. "Are you the Prophet we are expecting?" "No."

John the Baptist was born to be the forerunner of Jesus Christ. He was the last prophet to be revealed before Jesus would be manifested.

John the Baptist came in the spirit and power of Elijah (Matt 17:10-13). Now, this does not mean that Elijah reincarnated, it simply means that John the Baptist was carrying the same mantle and anointing that Elijah had. But the surprising thing is that John the Baptist didn't know this. Today’s Bible text makes that quite clear.

I believe that God never told John that he had the anointing of Elijah because He had already told John’s father, and John’s father was probably expected to tell John (there was no instruction to the contrary). When the Angel appeared to John’s father to tell him about the birth of John, the angel told him that John would come in the spirit and power of Elijah (see Luke 1:17).

The Bible records that John the Baptist, even though he fulfilled his prophetic calling, he never performed any great miracles (see John 10:41). I believe that if John the Baptist had known that he came in the Spirit and POWER of Elijah, he would have performed great miracles like Elijah did.

Lessons from today’s meditation:
If you have a father in the Lord or discipler, there are some things that the Lord may reveal to him/her about you that you may not know about yourself. Proper discipleship uncovers hidden potentials.

Spiritual power comes as a result of revelation. You may have the potential to do certain things but you may never do them if you do not know you have the ability.
Go into today asking the Lord to reveal who you are to you.
