SALVATION IS ETERNAL BUT FAITH CAN FAIL

Hebrews 10:26-27 (NET)
For if we deliberately keep on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins is left for us, but only a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury of fire that will consume God’s enemies.

Yesterday we saw that the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. This means that if God gives a gift, he doesn’t take it back. Our salvation is a gift and not a payment for our works, so God does not take back our salvation.

Let us liken the salvation God gives through Christ as electricity that is freely available on the high tension and low tension wires everywhere. In order for you to get your portion of this electricity, you have to connect to it using a wire.Faith is like the wire that connects you to God’s salvation (see Eph 2:8). As long as you continue to have faith for salvation, you are saved. But if a man claims to have faith for salvation, but continues to live a contrary life, it proofs his faith is dead (see James 2:14, 17).

If a believer continues to sin without repentance, he is violating his conscience and playing with a shipwreck of his faith (see 1 Tim 1:19-20). Faith produces righteousness, but rebelliously walking in the flesh (sin) erodes and ultimately extinguishes faith- it produces spiritual death (see Rom 8:13).

The problem is not whether God’s salvation is available; it is whether there is faith to receive it. Some people have got to the point of apostasy because they lost this faith. The way to get there is to continue to willfully and rebelliously sin, even after receiving the forgiveness of sin.

Go into today knowing that we are not of them that draw back unto perdition, but of them that believe to the end. See Heb 10:39.
