1 Co 7:32,35

I want you to be free from anxieties…I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.

ESV

Should that which God blesses us with become the cause of our own undoing? God forbid! The blessings of the Lord adds no sorrow (see Prov 10:22).

Paraphrasing 1 Cor 7:32-34 ESV: “…The unmarried man is concerned about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But when he gets married, he becomes anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife and his interests are divided...” Sad to say, this is the case with so many a believer. Before that long-awaited job prayerfully came through, they were all about the work of God, would not absent from fellowship; but for the job, the story changes.

From scriptures, God rewards faithfulness to a responsibility with more responsibilities besides other blessings (see Mt 13:12; 25:29). So When God blesses you, see it as a privilege to do more and not an excuse to do less. The good things of this life should not distract us in our service and devotion to God. When we make our eye single to the Lord, our devotion would always be to our Lord and Him only, whether in the absence or presence of his blessings (see Mt 6:22)

Go into today, determined to please God in all things and without distractions.

PRAYER: Father, in the name of Jesus, I choose to serve you with my whole heart. I will not be distracted. You are my source and my ultimate, my joy and my satisfaction.
