FAITH AND HOPE

Broadcast 3699

Rom 8:25-26 (NET) But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with endurance. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.

Danjuma’s sister saw that her brother wasn’t enjoying the wealth of the family any longer because their father persecuted him for accepting Christ. He could no longer afford to live in his expensive apartment and had to move to a flat in a neighborhood far away from the city center. But something kept Zain perplexed for days: when her brother told her that he had chosen real wealth by following Christ, she saw that he was very sure of what he was saying. As if he had already seen the wealth and glory he talked about.

She decided to ask him why he was so sure of something he has never seen.

Zain: the other day, you talked about true wealth that you will now have because you are in Christ. What makes you so sure of this?

Danjuma: I am very sure because the Holy Spirit within me assures me and shows me proof of this wealth daily.

The faith of a Christian is based on hope. For faith is the substance of things hoped for. This hope (sure expectation) forms through the word and promises of God. As Christians, our [blessed] hope is the resurrection and the kingdom of God (see Titus 2:13), but the evidence that we have now of this is our faith. Our faith is evidence because it brings the reality of God’s eternal kingdom into our present world right now.

Weakness is always a sign of weakening faith, and the solution to this is prayer. The Holy Spirit helps us in this; He intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be expressed with words.

Go into today remembering that the fastest solution to spiritual weakness is praying in the Spirit.
