Romans 8:28 (NLT)
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them

Many countries have witnessed or participated in democratic elections and many more are usually very interested in the outcome, as they should be. Many have offered prayers for the candidate they think should win. However, most democratic elections will result in winners and losers. Regardless of who wins, it is natural for some to feel downcast and hopeless at the future of their nation. This holds true for about every election, as Christians may have various political leanings and expectations.

Today’s devotional seeks to address the feeling of hopelessness that comes with losing out. It usually comes as we see our government playing major roles in how things are done in our societies and our lives. However, as Christians there are some truths we know and hold on to that others don’t.

1. The [President and Leader’s] heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he guides it wherever he pleases (Proverbs 21:1 NLT).

2. Pray this way for [President and Leader] and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.

3. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he put down one and set up another (Psalms 65:6)

Thinking over these scriptures can help build the faith of those who may be distraught over outcomes they are not happy with, and help reassure those who are happy with the same outcomes.

Pray this prayer: Father, help me to believe your word and see the world as you see it. Help me to know that you are God and are able to make all things and all election outcomes work in favor of the church-- those who love you and are called according to your purpose.

Go into today full of hope.
