John 3:3 (KJV)
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

I remember something that happened when I was an undergraduate student. One of my Christian classmates was in a difficult situation, and doing certain things that would compromise his faith would have helped him out of that situation. But he refused to compromise. A second classmate who attended the same Christian fellowship as the first  kept advising him to compromise and make life easy for himself. When the second classmate didn’t stop his persuasions, the first classmate became tired and told him that ‘you are not born again’. This was an issue because the second classmate who was a leader in fellowship was deeply offended by this statement.

The first classmate refused to compromise even though it was the easier way out. The kingdom of God was real to him, and it regulated his everyday life. The second classmate simply couldn’t understand why the first brother wouldn’t compromise, he apparently wasn’t conscious of the kingdom and wasn’t seeing life from a kingdom (eternal) perspective.

Being born again brought us into the kingdom of light. We were once in darkness and could not see the kingdom of God. But being born again gives us the ability to perceive and be ruled by the kingdom of God. We begin to understand the purpose of life and how we are part of God’s eternal kingdom (A kingdom that will indeed rule over all). We begin to see life from that perspective and make our choices from there.

Go into today remembering that we are saved into God’s kingdom. Our gospel is rightly called the gospel of the kingdom.
