Colossians 2:12 (NLT)
For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.

Jesse: Pastor, does it mean that a believer who didn’t have the chance to be baptized will not go to heaven?

Pastor Ken: No, it doesn’t. We receive salvation because of faith in Christ. But Jesus did not only come to save us from the penalty of sin, He came to save us from the power of sin. Sin loses its power over us when our consciences are void of all guilt and vestiges of our past life. One of God's instruments for doing this in the believer is water baptism, as we can see in 1 Pet 3:21.

Jese: Pastor, you said baptism is an act of salvation. I thought we didn’t need to do anything to earn God's salvation through Christ?

Pastor Ken: you don’t need to do anything to earn God's gift of salvation through Christ Jesus. But you need to do these to receive this gift in its fullness: Believe and Be Baptised (see Mark 16:16, Acts 2:28).

Your generation is one that has underemphasized water baptism, and many do not even know the power that comes with this sacrament. That’s why many new believers in your generation are not very different from the people of the world. They have not been fully cut off through death and burial (baptism) from their old life of sin and the power of the world. Proper baptism and proper teaching about its power would ensure this. It is through baptism that Christians are buried with Christ and are raised with Him into the new life (see Col 2:12, Rom 6:3-4). This life has the power to conquer sin permanently.
Prayer: Lord, help me walk in the power of the new life. Amen.
