1 Cor 4:5 (ESV)
Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.

I recently had a conversation with an elderly woman who was disturbed that the wicked seem to continue in their wickedness and God doesn’t seem to be judging them. I reminded her that God has set aside an entire season in eternity for judgment. As for seeing God’s judgment on the earth, we need to keep crying to Him for our vengeance (Luke 18:7). But we should never take matters into our hands by pronouncing our own judgments. This is dangerous.

One reason why we feel the need to judge our enemies [before the time] is because God’s judgments sometimes appear to come too slow, and this can be really tempting.

But remember that when your body dies, the real you never really dies. You will retain this consciousness for all eternity. Seven million years from now, we all will still be alive, and be able to remember our relatively few days on earth when this life started. But the quality of our lives then will be dependent on the outcome of God’s judgment.

Christians need to live with the eternal perspective, this is the only way to live fruitfully in the kingdom of God.

Go into today remembering that everyone with this body of flesh will lose it someday (this is what we call death). And immediately after death, the season of everyone’s judgment has begun (see Heb 9:27).

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you live with eternity in view.
