RECEIVING FROM GOD 3

James 4:2-3 [KJV]
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

We have examined in our previous studies that when we ask God in faith about our needs, we will receive them. Someone may say, is it that simple? The answer is yes, it is that simple. God is committed to fulfilling every word He has spoken.

The question is, why then don't we always see our needs met even when we ask in faith? One of the reasons is found in today's Bible text: 'Ye ask, and receive not because ye ASK AMISS'. To ask amiss means to ask something from God so as to consume it upon your lust.

Receiving from God is not just about asking in faith, we also need to ask with the right motives.

When you ask God for a car, is it so that you can prove to the society that you can afford one? When you ask God for a house, is it so as to increase your social status and relevance? When you ask God for anointing, is it so that you can be famous and have people drawn to you? God will not grant your request if you are not going to honor Him with it. Prov 3:9 admonishes us to honor God with our substances. This doesn't only mean giving offerings in church.

Go into today searching your heart to see that your motives agree with the will of God for you. Ask the Holy Spirit to purify your motives.
