GRACE: UNMERITED FAVOR

John 3:16 [KJV]
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

A certain prestigious University decided to give admission to all who applied, even though no one deserved it. [Now that is unmerited favor]. Because the Chancellor knew it would be impossible for the students to cope, he introduced a tested and tried program that ensured every student would pass and graduate successfully. But unfortunately, some students rejected the program. Also, not many of those who applied got the news that they have been given unconditional admission. Some got the news, but did not believe it.

The good news of salvation by faith in Christ Jesus is for all. Anyone who believes will receive salvation and will receive power to become a son of God (akin to graduating from the university and becoming a productive member of society) [See John 1:12]. But many have not heard and received the good news of salvation.

It is because of God’s grace (unmerited favor) that He sent Jesus to die on the cross and shed His blood for the cleansing of our sins. It is through faith in Christ that we obtain grace (divine empowerment) to live above the old nature of sin in our flesh. We are to keep depending on the grace of God and never on our strength or willpower.

As you go into today, never forget that God loved you even before you knew Him. His love for you has not changed now. Do not be afraid to approach His throne for grace to help you when you perceive your strength against imminent temptation is waning (see Heb 4:16).
