2 Tim 2:22
But keep away from youthful passions, and pursue righteousness, faithfulness, love, and peace, in company with others who call on the Lord from a pure heart. [NET]

The above was written by Paul (the Apostle) to Timothy, who we would refer to as ‘Pastor Timothy’ or ‘Bishop Timothy’ in today’s language.

My point is, if Paul wrote these words to Pastor Timothy, these words are definitely relevant to all of us today.

The first part of today’s Bible text says ‘keep away from youthful passions’. One sure way to do this is to avoid materials that arouse youthful passions. The social media today has been flooded with such materials, but let’s not forget that God wants us to keep away!

I love the second part of today’s Bile text because it helps to make the first part possible. You see, if you do not do one thing, you will do another, because you must do something. If a person keeps away from youthful passions, one way he would do this is by pursuing righteousness, faithfulness, love, and peace. And He doesn’t do this alone; he does this in the company of like-minded people who call on the Lord from a pure heart. Spiritual lone rangers don’t excel spiritually. Even our Lord did not walk alone; He had his company of like-minded Apostles.

In today’s Bible text, If you look more closely at the things we are to pursue, you will see that they are consequences of God’s Kingdom in a person’s life (see Rom 14:17).

This reminds me of the word of our Lord that says ‘seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these other things shall be added unto you’ (see Mat 6:33). So instead of allowing yourself to be controlled by youthful passions, seek the kingdom of God-this is even more exiting.

Go into today determined to keep away from youthful passions and seek God’s kingdom in a practical way.

Prayer: Lord, please help me keep this word for today. Amen.
