Rom 8:3-4

For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. [NIV]

The law was given so that people might be righteous by obeying it. Because of the weakness of the flesh, man was unable to truly obey the law.

Jesus came with grace and not the law (John 1:17). Grace does not say ‘do this and don’t do that’; grace transforms us from within and empowers us to walk in the transformed nature. This nature is the nature of righteousness; the same nature that the law failed to create in us.

Notice that Romans 8:4 says “in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the spirit”. You see, it is possible to be a Christian and still live according to your sinful nature which is resident in your flesh; it is also possible to live according to your divine righteous nature which has been inputted in your spirit. You have a choice every moment to choose which nature you will obey. The word of God helps you separate what is coming from your flesh dominated soul from what is coming from your renewed spirit (see Heb 4:12).

Go into today determined to live your life by the word of God (Mat 4:4). This is also what it means to walk by the spirit (Gal 5:16).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please teach me to walk in the Spirit always. Amen.
