Luke 2:9-11
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Over the years, Christmas has been celebrated without full attention to its true purpose. In the posthumous birthday celebration of Martin Luther King Jr., the civil rights commitment is renewed. I fear that many persons celebrating Christmas don't even stop to think of what its essence is all about, nor give enough thought to who the celebrant is.
It is sad to be neglected, but more so when it is done on your big day of celebration. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is the center of it all, the celebrant. Let's not neglect Him especially on His big day of celebration. The word is CHRISTmas and not Xmas. Let us accord Him the reverence He deserves.
We saw from today's text that His birth was announced by angels to the shepherds abiding in the field. It is our responsibility to do likewise. Announce Him to others, especially in this Christmas season.
Prayer: Father, help me to celebrate the birth of your son the way I should, In Jesus name I pray. Amen. Not yet born again? Click this link: http://bit.ly/1iTOmol
