Eph 5:18

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but Be Filled with the Spirit [KJV]

Being filled with the Spirit is a life that we should always maintain, and there are things we do that can support being filled with the Spirit; there are also things to avoid in order to maintain this state of being filled with the Spirit, a quintessential example is being drunk with wine or indulging in any fleshly excess. If Apostle Paul (in today’s Bible text) told the church to be filled with the Spirit, it means being filled with the Spirit is something that can be influenced by their attitude and things that they do. We can clearly see those things outlined in Ephesians 5:19-21.

It is Christians who have already been baptized in the Holy Ghost that are told to be filled with the spirit (or to stay filled with the Spirit). Let's give an example: a man who had a drinking problem (and other problems) becomes born again. He can get baptized in the Holy ghost the day he became born again, but if he does not depend on the Holy Spirit for sanctification to overcome his problems, he will not maintain the state of being filled with the Spirit (while he is being drunk for example). We allow the Holy Spirit to sanctify us by letting Him wash us with God’s word (John 15:3). This happens when we let God’s word replace our former ways of thinking and seeing life.

Go into today depending on God to sanctify you wholly: and your whole spirit, and soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (see 1 Thes 5:23).

Pray that your life will be an expression of God’s grace. Ask the Holy Spirit to fully sanctify you. Amen. Not yet born again? Tap: http://po.st/qj7qx3
