2 Tim 1:7

For God has not given us the spirit of fear but of love and self-discipline. [NLT]

Earnest was 15 years when he started smoking marijuana, by the time he was 22, he was already addicted to cocaine. When Earnest became born again, one remarkable thing he experienced was the power of God empowering him to overcome his addictions. He has now been clean (from drug addiction) for over ten years and is now a pastor helping other addicts to the Lord (based on a true story).

When we give our lives to Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit who is our helper and also our teacher. This means we have the role to learn. One of the things the Holy Spirit teaches us is self discipline. The Holy Spirit does not overcome our temptations for us, but He gives us what we need to win the battle.

Joseph and Samson were both anointed men of God and both were tempted by women, but their lives and destinies went differently because of how much self-discipline they exercised. Same applies to us; we all have the tools we need to succeed, but we must also take responsibly and allow the Holy Spirit produce in us His nature of discipline.

As you go into today, remember that you also have a responsibly to exercise self discipline in the face of temptations.

Prayer : Dear lord, please help me to exercise self discipline in the face of temptations. Amen
