Act 20:35

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive'. ESV

Giving is a spiritual exercise. It is part of the reasonable service we render unto God. It is as spiritual and important as our prayers, fasting, worship and every other spiritual exercise. Just as the Bible tells us to pray, it also tells us to give. (See 1Thess. 5:17 and Luke 6:38)

Our obedience to give is a sign that we trust God. It should be done out of love and not because we want the blessing of giving. Yes, the Bible assured us that when we give we will receive in good measure, but that should not become what drives us to give. Giving should be driven by love; that is only when we can be assured of receiving God's blessings. (See 1 cor 16:14).

Some persons would say I need to be led before I give but this is how it should be; you need to be led not to give. God has commanded us already through His word to give, why do we need to be led again before we obey? Giving should be our lifestyle.

Who should we mostly give to?

1. To God; spend our money for the advancement of God’s kingdom on the earth; give offerings, tithes, etc.

2. To those in need, irrespective of whether we are familiar with them or not, even to those who hate us. (See prov 19:17, 21:13)

3. We give to honor our parents.

Go into today remembering that there is always a blessing when we give. This is God’s word and He never breaks His word.

Prayer : My heavenly Father, I thank you for your word today. Give me the grace to become a giver from hence forth, in Jesus name. Amen
