Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

NLT

I recently had a conversation over the internet with my friend. We had previously both maintained opposite political views concerning the better candidate in the upcoming Nigerian presidential elections. He said something that really touched me when I stated that I wasn’t perturbed over who won the election among the two major candidates, he said and I quote: ‘it’s not like either can change the tide of things for us…we know who we look to…’, and he was referring to God being the only one upon whom we truly place our hope.

The present scenario regarding the Nigerian elections has clearly pointed that the trust of many is in man and not in God; it has also revealed that our understanding of God is poor. An average Nigerian will talk about the elections at least once a day and you can see strength, vigor and hope in them as they speak, yet they speak less of God who is able to truly save them.

When trust is misdirected, it fails, for the arm of flesh will always fail. When we trust God, He in turn stares up the right men to help us. Note brethren that whenever we replace trust in God with trust in man, we are at the risk of idolatry.

Go into today with the determination to absolutely redirect your trust back to God, knowing that trust in God would never lead to disappointments (see Romans 5 :5a NLT).

PRAYER: Thank you Jesus for today's caution, give me the strength to always trust you. I cast my anxieties upon you Lord because I know you care. Amen
