UNWANTED VISITORS

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 12:1

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

NIV

The Davidsons found a huge rat in their master bedroom, It really worried them because they wondered how it got there in the first place; ‘It must have been when the carpenter came to work and left the back door open that the rat entered’ Franca said. It was really troubling for them because they couldn’t help but wonder what else might have crawled into the house. They did all they could to get rid of the rat; they eventually decided to give it rat poison by poisoning food they knew it would eat- this killed the rat and they got rid of its carcass.

So many times we have situations reminding us that there are unwanted visitors that would come uninvited. There are habits that could come because we were not guarding our hearts. What do we do in such situations? We take desperate measures until we see the stranger gone. Many times, Christians take such measures against physical enmity but fail to do so against spiritual enmity.

If there is a new habit in your life that is contrary to your new nature as a child of God, do as the Davidsons did; do not rest until the stranger is gone.

The best way to do away with besetting sins; impulsive habits that are sinful or any such thing is to face it head on. You may need to seek help from your pastor or someone you trust, you may need to pray long and even fast. Whatever it is, do all you can till you see that stranger go away.

Go into today filling your heart with the word of God under an atmosphere of prayer. This is a sure way to poison any unwanted guest in your life.

Prayer: Heavenly father, I give you all the praise and glory for your word today. I praise you for giving me a chance to fellowship with you. Please give me grace to walk perfectly with you free of everything that hinders. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
