FAITH AND WORKS

image

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Rom 4:1-3

What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter? 2 If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about — but not before God. 3 What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." a

NIV

Our justification before God is not because of our works but because of faith in Christ Jesus. That is what it really meant when you accepted Jesus into your life as your savior. It means you had faith in Him to save you and justify you from your unrighteousness.

Faith works in the domain of the spirit, you cannot walk in the flesh and live by faith and you cannot depend on the works of the flesh and live by faith because the flesh constantly wars against the spirit and the spirit against the flesh and the flesh profits nothing (see Rom 8:13). The works of the law are in the domain of the flesh.

Now that you are saved, it is faith in Christ Jesus that releases grace which empowers you to be righteous. This faith produces works that are not yours because they were not generated from your mind but were caused to happen by the spirit’s empowerment. The new (spiritual) nature you now have is contrary to the old nature of sin and it is the grace of God that will empower you to walk in the spirit and not in the flesh.

Go into today with a constant God consciousness and the knowing that you are always before the lord God who loves you and cares for you.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, I thank you for the benefit of being your child. I pray you help me to walk worthy of my calling in you, in Jesus name. Amen
