BE KIND TO STRANGERS

LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Heb 13:1-2

Keep on loving each other as brothers. 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

NIV

An experience I had while just a child going to write my entrance exam into the university really touched me. I stayed in the house of total strangers who didn’t previously know me or my parents; they only knew my father’s friend yet were so hospitable and nice to me. As I observed more closely, I realized that they were so hospitable because they were people who truly loved the lord. That really strengthened my faith as a young Christian.

I’ve discovered that just like a mature tree does not struggle to bear fruit, when a person is truly regenerated, he will not have issues with today’s admonition to be kind to strangers.

One of the greatest proofs that you now have the God kind of love in your heart is the ability to entertain strangers. Even though there are more bad people in the world today than good people, we are still to be kind to strangers; we are not to unwisely expose ourselves to them but to treat strangers the way we would want to be treated if we were in their position. Doing this comes with its own blessing. When you receive a prophet in the name of a prophet you will receive a prophet’s reward (see Matt 10:41), when you receive a stranger in the name of the lord (because the lord says to do so), you will receive the lord’s reward. Think about how much longer Abraham would have waited to receive Isaac if he had not warmly receive those strangers in Genesis 18.

Go into today knowing that anytime you do something that is contrary to the human fleshly nature but is in consonance with God’s nature, you gain more grounds in the realm of the spirit.

Prayer: Heavenly father, I thank you for this day, I thank you for being so good to me even when I didn’t know you. Dear lord I pray you give me more grace to be good to even people I don’t know; may I fully express your nature. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
