Love for Righteousness

image

Listen to Audio Version

Heb 1:9

9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

KJV

I was not surprised to see how David turned out when we went to the university. He became known as a bad boy who even had to be arrested and jailed by the police for a while.

We both grew up in secondary school as ‘fellowship’ boys who did not indulge in the unrighteous acts of other boys who didn’t know Jesus in our school. But I noticed that David also felt like he was missing out in not exploring the dimensions of iniquity that was becoming prevalent among the students then in school. Even though he was not doing them, he really admired those who did them.

There is the love for righteousness that God desires in everyone who is being conformed to the image of Christ Jesus. Love for righteousness is not only the state of imputed righteousness or a state of being righteous; it is a state of loving the idea of righteousness. Seeing the beauty of holiness and desiring this more and more even as you walk in it.

There is another very strong indication that one loves righteousness apart from the fact that he is walking righteously, he hates wickedness. He despises iniquity and does not want to have anything to do with it. He does not hate the people who commit such wickedness because hatred for human beings is unrighteousness in itself; instead he hates the acts of iniquity and sees them as they really are- toxic to his system.

Many of us don’t like snakes because they are poisonous and can cause great harm to us, iniquity is even more poisonous and dangerous to your spirit man.

Let us go into today knowing and celebrating what we love- righteousness and despising and hating unrighteousness. Then we will be like our lord indeed.
