Rom 8:5-7

Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

NLT

Now that you are born again, You have two natures. Before you were born again, you had one nature which was the sinful nature; this nature is the reason why nobody needed to teach you how to lie or commit any sin. But you now have the nature of the Holy Spirit who now dwells within your heart.

You now get to choose the nature you will walk in, whether the sinful nature that may look appealing but leads to death or the Spirit’s nature that leads to eternal life in this world and in the world to come.

There are several reasons why many Christians let their sinful nature control them instead of letting the other nature they have to control them. One of these reasons may be that they do not know how to let their other nature which is the nature of the Holy Spirit control them. Some others are deceived into thinking that they have only one nature and this nature is the nature of the spirit, therefore when they see the evidences or even the vestiges of the sinful nature appear, they get condemnation in their hearts plus guilty conscience which interfaces you with the sinful nature.

You need to know first of all that you have a new nature even though the nature of sin you had may seem very easy to switch into because you were born in that nature and you may have probably spent more time exploring it, but as you walk more in the spirit, it will be harder for you to go back there.

We must also point out that walking under the laws of dos and don’ts is a sign of the sinful nature, but walking under grace is a sign of the Spirit’s nature.

Walking under grace means that your relationship with God is not like master and slave but like father and son. ‘For we have not received the spirit of fear but the spirit of children’ (paraphrased Romans 8:15). This means that you do not depend on rules to have a relationship with God but His Spirit who gives you His nature.

Prayer: My father who art in heaven. I thank you for adopting me into your family. I pray that you fill me with your nature that I may have a good relationship with you. Thank you father for hearing me, In Jesus mighty name. Amen
