Rom 2:12-16
When the Gentiles sin,
they will be destroyed, even though they never had God's written law. And the
Jews, who do have God's law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey
it. 13 For merely listening to
the law doesn't make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us
right in his sight. 14 Even Gentiles, who do not
have God's written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively
obey it, even without having heard it. 15 They
demonstrate that God's law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience
and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. 16 And this is the message I
proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge
everyone's secret life.
NLT
Mr. Stein was very angry with his thirteen year old
daughter, Clara because two nights ago, he
and Susan his wife just arrived from a dinner and saw that Clara who
just came home from boarding school used their bedroom toilet and didn’t flush,
thoroughly messed up their bedroom; leaving some of her mom’s clothes on the
floor. Mr. Stein told Clara that she should know that what she has done was
wrong and that she shouldn’t play in their bedroom when they are not around. He
was very angry because he came to discover that Clara not only played in their
bedroom this time but took her friend there to play. He grounded Clara for a
month; banned her from watching TV, seized her smartphone…
This story is an illustration of how that even though
the gentiles did not have the law, they knew what was right and what was wrong;
it also shows that even though the Jews had the law, they couldn’t keep it. The
‘law’ Mr. Stein gave to Clara was to deter her from messing up his room, when Clara
messed up the room the second time, she committed two wrongs; the one was she did
what she knew was wrong by messing up the room, the other was she disobeyed a
direct instruction from her father.
The truth is that anyone who ultimately seeks to walk
in truth and obey God’s law will find Jesus and serve Him. Many people who were
born in Christian homes never met Jesus because they had no desire for the real
truth…
Go into today knowing that God will judge everyone
including everyone’s secret life.
